Literary adaptations just don't get any better than director Joe Wright's 2005 version of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. The key word here is adaptation, because Wright and gifted screenwriter Deborah Moggach have taken liberties with Austen's classic novel that purists may find objectionable, but in this exquisite film their artistic decisions are entirely justified and exceptionally well executed. It's a more rural England that we see here, circa 1790 (as opposed to Austen's early 19th century), in which Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) is one of several sisters primed for marriage, with an anxious mother (Brenda Blethyn) only too desperate to see her daughters paired off with the finest, richest husbands available. Elizabeth is strong-willed and opinionated, but her head (not to mention her pride and prejudice) lead her heart astray when she meets the wealthy Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), whose own sense of decency and discretion (not to mention his pride and prejudice) prevent him from expressing his mutual affection. They're clearly meant for each other, and as Knightley's performance lights up the screen (still young enough to be girlishly impertinent, yet wise beyond her 20 years), Austen's timeless romance yields yet another timeless adaptation, easily on par with the beloved BBC miniseries that has been embraced by millions since originally broadcast in 1995. Individual tastes will vary as to which version should be considered "definitive," but with a stellar supporting cast including Judi Dench and Donald Sutherland, this impeccable production achieves its own kind of perfection. --Jeff Shannon
Description
One of the greatest love stories of all time, Pride & Prejudice, comes to the screen in a glorious new adaptation starring Keira Knightley. When Elizabeth Bennett (Knightley) meets the handsome Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen), she believes he is the last man on earth she could ever marry. But as their lives become intertwined in an unexpected adventure, she finds herself captivated by the very person she swore to loathe for all eternity. Based on the beloved masterpiece by Jane Austen, it is the classic tale of love and misunderstanding that sparkles with romance, wit and emotional force. Critics are calling it "Exhilarating. A joy from start to finish" (Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times).
Customer Reviews:
Good Introduction.......2007-09-16
When I first saw this movie, I had no expectations. I had never seen any other version of Pride and Prejudice, nor had I read the book. The visuals were stunning, the story was good, and although the acting was not perfect, it was good enough. I was impressed enough to look it up later and not only purchase this version, but also got the older, BBC version with Colin Firth.
Although I have since watched the BBC version multiple times and fallen in love with the story and the actors in that version...I can still look kindly upon this version. Although parts were missing and this story is nowhere near as in-depth as the BBC version or the book, and although I feel that Kiera Knightley is too charged (her emotions are all very extreme. She comes off as rude, angry, and overemotional to me.) and too self-conscious (again, with her overdone reactions to things...it makes her seem self-conscious and nervous.), I think this version is much more accessible to the public. People are more willing to sit down to a short movie filled with beautiful people than they are to begin the 5 hour of the BBC version or read "stuffy old novels". As well, despite the historical inaccuracies, the filming was well-done and I believe the story is as good as it could have been after being condensed into such a small package. While many would be angry that this movie isn't "as good" as the BBC version, I still think this movie is better than many others in the last few years.
However, I would highly recommend that anyone who watched and was impressed with this movie go out and rent the BBC version. You will not be disappointed.
A new favorite.......2007-09-16
Having watched the movie, read the book and watched the movie again all in the same week I am pleased to say that the movie did the book justice; which is not a compliment I often bestow on such movies. Each actor was perfect in their representation and I will certainly enjoy watching this movie again and again.
Loved even by a fan of the BBC version.......2007-09-15
i adore this film, and the BBC miniseries as well. This film is set when the book was written (Georgian England) not published (Victorian England), unlike the BBC version. The difference is seen not just in the costumes, but in the manner of communicating. In Georgian England, people were much more expressive. Hence, the film is less subtle (also neccessary for a 2-hour version!) than the miniseries. Give Macfayden a chance, he's no Colin Firth, but I think he communicates the "he's not a snob, he's just shy" aspect much better than Firth, who comes accross as simply arrogant for most of the BBC version.
Am I the only one who think Knightley can't act?.......2007-09-09
Keira Knightley butchered what could have been a refreshing adaption to a beautiful story. Knightley appears oblivious to whom her character is. Again her constant posing and trying to be sexy by hanging her mouth open, is distracting and obnoxious.
And, once again, it falls to the other actors to carry her and fill in the gaps in her performance.
I dont' know what her agent had to pull to get her this role, but it's a waste of time, talent, and money. Only a miracle worker like Johnny Depp can cover for her like he did in "Pirates".
Pride and Prejudice.......2007-09-06
I love this movie. Now I have heard that the BBC version is better and the characters are more developed, and they should be for a six hour production. I would like to see that rendition some day soon. I have read the book twice so far and love it. However, I am a mom of four year old twins and I don't have 6 hours to watch a DVD right now. I think the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice is very well done. They did not butcher the book at all like some do. I give it five stars. It's absolutely delightful!

The folks at Pixar can do no wrong with Monsters, Inc., the studio's fourth feature film, which stretches the computer animation format in terms of both technical complexity and emotional impact. The giant, blue-furred James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (wonderfully voiced by John Goodman) is a scare-monster extraordinaire in the hidden world of Monstropolis, where the scaring of kids is an imperative in order to keep the entire city running. Beyond the competition to be the best at the business, Sullivan and his assistant, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. Director Pete Doctor and codirectors David Silverman and Lee Unkrich follow the Pixar (Toy Story) blueprint with an imaginative scenario, fun characters, and ace comic timing. By the last heart-tugging shot, kids may never look at monsters the same, nor artists at what computer animation can do in the hands of magicians. --Doug Thomas
Description
From the Academy Award(R)-winning creators of TOY STORY comes the computer-animated film that captured the hearts of fans and critics everywhere. MONSTERS, INC., is "visually dazzling, action-packed, and hilarious" (Boston Herald), featuring groundbreaking animation, imaginative storytelling, and unforgettable voice talent. John Goodman stars as the lovable James P. Sullivan (Sulley) and Billy Crystal as his wisecracking best friend, Mike Wazowski. Top scarer Sulley and his enthusiastic Scare Assistant Mike work at Monsters, Inc., the largest scream-processing factory in Monstropolis. The main power source of the monster world is the collected screams of human children. Monsters believe children are dangerous and toxic, however, and they are scared silly when a little girl wanders into their world. Sulley and Mike do their best to return the girl home, but they face monstrous intrigue and some hilarious misadventures along the way. MONSTERS, INC., is "supremely clever -- fun for kids and adults alike" (CBS-TV). Treat yourself to the most entertaining movie of the year with all-new exclusive bonus features and animation for monster laughs and monster fun.
Customer Reviews:
Wish there were a sequel!.......2007-06-28
It was that good! Unfortunately they didn't leave a door open for a sequel. Great story about the Monsters all little kids fear in their bed at night, and their interaction with those kids. It gives you the persepective from the other side of your closet door where the Monsters live. The characters are very lovable. Great, great comedy sequences, you will be laughing out loud! Unique story line. "Loving" out-come. Enjoy!
WOW!! What a great movie.. This movie should live on FOREVER!!!.......2007-06-22
This movie was great and it was really enjoyable and funny. I have had this movie since it came out as I went to see it in the movie theater. This would be my favorite movie of all time. Sulley(James P. Sullivan) and Mike Wazowski (the main characters of this movie) are my favorite characters in this movie and are my two favorite characters in any movie. Randall Boggs would be my third favorite character in the movie because he makes me LAUGH!! But he gets destroyed into a trailor during my favorite part of the movie which is when Mike and Sulley are hanging or flying on doors to try to get Boo home. Boo is my least favorite character in this movie because she CRIES a lot during the movie and just not my favorite. Celia, who Mike is in love with isn't all that great too. But I think Roz is great. She makes me laugh when she tells Mike that he didn't turn in his paperwork. and Mr. Waternoose would be my 5th and last most favorite character in this movie till he gets arrested by the CDA. Also, the part where Mike and Sulley go to Himalayas is great because they're in a BLIZZARD!! The worst part of the movie is when Sulley and Mike take Boo home that's when I feel to cry. But overall, this is a really great movie which I wish I could give this 10 stars. Please get this movie but Shrek s$cked!!!
Best film of the year.
Power-ful Kiddie Entertainment.......2007-06-21
Some of the best stories for children have presented their worst fears only to have the menace brought down to size. "Jack and the Beanstalk" works that way perfectly. 'Monsters, Inc.' helps to tuck the kiddies in and give them the giggles, too. Taking near day-glow colors, the Monsters in this fluid Pixar picture are hideously cute. They live in a "green" world where the renewable resource of children's fright powers the Monster community. Looking like the sorts in (Lucas Films, Ltd. is credited here) a 'Star Wars' bar scene, the film's focus is on the power company where the employees go through magic doors, their portals to children's bedrooms where the fright factor generates their power plant.
Heading the troops is big blue "Sully" (John Goodman) a good natured monster, proud of his ability to be the equivalent of "Employee of the Month". Keeping track of his generating power, he is out to set a plant record. His green, one-eyed sidekick, Mike Wazowski, (Billy Crystal) has a Martian appearance, but his voice couldn't scare a mouse. He is smitten by one-eyed purple princess, Shroopsy with hydra hair (snake braids). They all face their competition with rascally Randall, (perfectly villainous, Steve Buscemi) the salamander-like monster with invisible capabilities. Pivotal to the plot is Mr. Waternoose, (James Coburn) a tycoon who resembles a tarantula in a three-piece suit. In the causality is 'Silkwood'-like contamination if any child or remnant remains in the Monster world. (In other words: Just like parents often say about insects or some animals: "They're more afraid of [children], than [they] are of them.") Sully and James come across "Boo" whom they find in their best interests to return to the dark realm of her own bedroom.
Formidable to the fore, 'Monsters,..." takes a premise that could have been a dumb non-starter, and provides supporting plot structures with enough heft to turn the adventure on. With Pixar animation, the movement is flowing enough to take the technological edge off the look, and Andrew Stanton and Daniel Gerson's screenplay keep the dialogue fresh and funny. Director Pete Docter gives the movie proper assembly. 'Monsters, Inc.' is therapeutically good for children's dreamscapes as well as their funny bones. (Highly recommended to rent and to own.)
Pixar Created A Classic!.......2007-06-14
Monsters Inc is a great piece that your family will love! Loveable monsters are brought to life and make you laugh a lot! Laughter is more powerful than screams you know. A loveable classic for any collection!
Great movie.......2007-06-13
Hey it's Mike,
Wow!! What a great movie this is. This is by far my favorite movie due to the presence of Mike and Sulley. There is not a lot of great movies out there, but this one is one of the very best!! Sulley, Mike, Randall, Roz, and Waternoose are all great characters and 3 of them are really funny! Boo and Celia are my two least favorite characters in the film. The best part of this movie is the Flying on Doors part where Randall gets destroyed.
The end is the saddest part of the movie when Sulley and Mike take Boo home.
Well this movie is the best as I wish that I can give this much more than 5 stars like a million stars. Please buy.

It's still one of the sweetest kisses onscreen, up there with Bergman and Grant, Bogey and Bacall: the moment when pampered purebred Lady and streetwise mongrel Tramp, sharing a moonlit plate of spaghetti in an alley behind an Italian café, unknowingly slurp the same strand, and suddenly find their mouths meeting in surprise and tenderness. Ah, puppy love. Lady and the Tramp is a delight of animation and surprisingly deep character development, given that the stars are all dogs. Lady, an adorable Cocker Spaniel, feels neglected when her owners become distracted by the pending birth of a baby. But the last straw is clueless Aunt Sarah's appearance with her conniving Siamese cats (among Disney's most creatively evil villains), who wreak havoc on Lady's blissful home life. Soon Lady is off on an adventure in the streets, where the savvy Tramp takes her under his paw. The lessons of friendship and loyalty, of integrity--not to mention trusting in the kindness of strangers--ring true to delighted children and adults alike. And unlike many Disney films, there's no real violence, only challenges that smart dogs (including a tough-talking vamp named Peg, voiced sublimely by Peggy Lee, who also wrote the songs), banding together, can tackle. The animation is terrific; the scene where we first meet Tramp shows him rinsing off under a pipe, and his subsequent shaking-off of the water follows the detailed rippling up and down his back that any dog lover will recognize. And is there any song more romantic than "Bella Notte"? Bellissima! --A.T. Hurley

IT'S A DOGS WORLD IN 'THE LADY AND THE TRAMP'.......2007-07-26
FIRST OFF:
Beautiful, soft, colorful animation with incredible detail brings this character driven doggie-tale to life. The songs, like all great animated classics work into the plot and are a great aid in telling the story, making the film entertaining and making children of all ages happy.
BUT THERE IS MORE -- MUCH MORE: DOG'S TELL THEIR OWN TALE!
Dog's tell their own tale in this one. Unlike "101 Dalmations", which Disney also made several years after this film, the humans are basically not substancial characters. The humans' role is simply as a background setting for the tale of the Lady and the Tramp, which is completely appropriate for this kind of tale.
WHAT MAKES "THE LADY AND THE TRAMP SO DARN GOOD"?
1]- The 9 "Old Men" were really at the top of their game when they animated the major characters of the film. In the featurette, in the 50th anniversary edition, we see exactly what these very talented guys were aiming for and some of the interesting stuff they came up with for Walt Disney.
2]- The music and lyrics are well timed, entertaining and really help set up the many varying moods of the individual scenes. The soundtrack also furthers the plot, and helps us to really like who and what we are seeing on the screen. In short, the tunes help to humanize the doggies, and in that way assist in telling a multi-level tale that means something to kids, something to adults, and something collectively to everyone. "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "The Incredibles" also clearly illustrate that multi-level trait.
3]- The story itself is well constructed with clever while appropriate dialogue, and a very eclectic blend of characters with dogs and humans both being from a very broad and diverse background.
The small town, on the verge of the modern age, still is a special and desirable place to be in this film. Things like telephones and early automobiles are just barely hinted at in a few scenes.
4]- Cinemascope was used, for one of the first times in this film, and simply put it makes for a larger, broader world with a lot more background animation. Disney actually filmed two completely drawn versions of this film, Cinemascope [widescreen], and Full-Screen, because many theatres were not equipped to play cinemascope films in 1956.
DVD FEATURES: THIS 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION HAS ALL THE FEATURES & IS THE ONE TO GET!
LAST WORD:
Get the 50th Anniversary Edition if you want features and a remastered Cinemascope picture. We did and we are delighted.
Lady and the Tramp.......2007-06-26
One of Disney's most endearing family classics, "Tramp" is a marvel of lively animation, bright voice acting, and sensational songwriting, courtesy of the inimitable Peggy Lee (who also voices the sinister twin kitties, Si and Am.) Watching a pampered female pooch fall for a declassé but charismatic male doggie is not only fun but enlightening about the magic of mutual attraction. And the famous spaghetti-slurping scene leading to a surprise first kiss is charming no matter how many times you view it. Highlights include the vamp-y "He's a Tramp" and "Siamese Cat Song."
It's Lady And The Tramp And We Love It!.......2007-06-25
LADY AND THE TRAMP is my favorite of all the Disney animated films. It has great memorable characters from the down on her luck show dog Peg (voiced by the fabulous Peggy Lee who also voices a couple of other characters) to Aunt Sarah's sly pair of Siamese cats. The music is also among the best from Disney with "Bella Noche", Quiet As a Snowflake" and especially "He's A Tramp" with the wonderful dog pound chorus as well as a couple of other memorable songs. The film touts the virtures of both pure bred dogs like the beautiful sweet Cocker Spaniel Lady and also the advantages of mixed breeds like her clever Heinz 57 mate Tramp. This movie is a must for dog lovers and can be enjoyed by all ages.

Ok I just finished watching MAC DADDY with the CHEESE Commentary and OH MY HELLO! This was so funny I almost wet my pants. As a Fosters Fan and a Huge Fan of Cheese I just have to say this is the BEST SHOW EVER.
When ever I am down I just turn on my Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends.
If you have Season 1 Why would you not get Season 2?
Bring it ON!!! =).......2007-09-05
Wow, I love this show! I was among the first to get Season 1, and now I'm so excited about Season 2! The show can be picked up at any time, but in Season 1, we last saw Blooregard, called Bloo for short, causing all sorts of ruckus with his new friends Wilt, Eduardo and Coco, who are also imaginary. Mac still visits him every day and usually gets dragged unwillingly into the turmoil. And they all continue to have some of the greatest and most hilarious adventures together! Their friendships continue to strengthen, and we get to know some of the other characters, particularly Madame F.'s sweet granddaughter Frankie. There's little details I can share since the DVD hasn't officially been released yet. I'll update this review when I get my pre-ordered copy in the mail.
As for the episodes, they're all great this season! Well, except maybe one IMHO. And they are------
*Partying Is Such Sweet Soiree*
*The Big Lablooski*
*Where There's a Wilt There's a Way / Everyone Knows It's Bendy*
*Sight For Sore Eyes / Bloo's Brothers*
*Cookie Dough*
*Frankie My Dear*
*Mac Daddy*
*Squeakerboxxx*
*Beat With A Schtick*
*Sweet Stench Of Success*
*Bye Bye Nerdy*
*Bloo Done It*
*My So-Called Wife*
Special features include----
*An All New "Gallery of Friends"* -A look at the lesser known friends in the house
*End of Episode Gags* -The fun little scenes CN sometimes shows during the credits at the end of the episode
*"Cheesequest"* -A special "music video" featuring Cheese. This is actually a fun "short" rather than a music video. It has been aired on Cartoon Network a number of times already. It features Cheese imagining himself being sucked into a Nintendo-style video game, and hops, runs, flies and swims his way through, collecting points, all while fun video game music plays in the background.
*A Commentary on "Mac Daddy" by Cheese* -Not sure how the commentary will go, for knowing Cheese... We'll just have to wait and see how it goes.
And now, I look forward to Season 3! Bring it ON!!! =)
A Great Cartoon for Young & Old.......2007-07-22
At last! After purchasing the 1st season on iTunes, I've patiently been waiting for them to release the 2nd season of this wonderfully creative and pleasantly funny series. But for some reason, they've jumped around and have decided to start selling the fifth season.
No matter! Amazon has come to the rescue buy not only providing me the 2nd season, but also with DVD extras including a Cheese music video, a gallery of imaginary friends, and show promos. And at $5 less than what the other seasons have been selling for on iTunes.
The great episodes in this season:
"Partying is Such Sweet Soriee" - 5/5 - A personal favorite of mine, since it's the first episode of "Foster's" I ever saw. When Madam Foster and Frankie decide to go out one night, Bloo decides to throw a wild house party.
"The Big Lablooski" - 3/5 - Bloo, Mac and the gang join Madam Foster's bowling team. Not one of my all-time favorites, but it has its moments, like Bloo's desperate attempts at winning a paddleball from a claw machine.
"Where There's a Wilt There's a Way/Everyone Knows it's Bendy" - 4/5 - A two-part episode. First there's poor Wilt. He can't say no to anyone, no matter how much of an inconvenience it is for him. And then, when a new guy, Bendy, comes to the house, he starts causing all kinds of problems. When Bloo decides to expose him for the troublemaker he is, he leaves quite a trail of destruction behind him.
"Sight For Sore Eyes/Bloo's Brothers" - 4/5 - Another two parter. In the first segment, Ivan, a seeing-eye friend, has been separated from his kid. When Bloo and Mac decide to help him, they end up getting separated, as well. Next, when Mac takes Bloo to school for Show and Tell, Bloo wows his classmates. So much in fact, that all the kids go home and make their own, somewhat flawed version of our hero. When the copies get returned to the house, Mac can't tell which Bloo is his Bloo.
"Cookie Dough" - 3/5 - I can't really remember too much about this episode, since I haven't seen it in a while. I do know that Bloo is hilarious as a money-grubbing, slave-driving, entrepreneur.
"Frankie, My Dear" - 4/5 - When Bloo and Mac both develop crushes on Frankie, they resort to any means necessary to keep her away from other guys. This episode features the first appearance of Orlando Bloo.
"Mac Daddy" 5/5 - Who doesn't already know what this episode is about? The premiere episode of Cheese, that weird, annoying friend that suddenly shows up in Mac's bed. Great episode, especially since it shows Bloo caring about someone other than himself.
Squeakerboxxx" - 4/5 - After a day at the arcade, the gand decides to put all their tickets together for a better surprise. They end up selecting `Harry Elefante' (loved this!). Too bad Bloo breaks the toy the first time he plays with it, and must work desperately to win more tickets and get another prize before the other's realize it.
"Beat With a Schtick" - 3/5 - Bloo, being Bloo, manages to offend a rather large new friend, who challenges him to a fight at 4 o'clock. It doesn't help that everyone else in the house is looking forward to Bloo's challenge and is taking bets against him. A cute episode, but they've produced better.
"The Sweet Stench of Success" - 4/5 - After appearing in an `Adopt a Friend' spot on the news, Bloo becomes the mascot for DEO, a deodorant brand. Unfortunately for our dear friend, his new manager isn't that nice of a guy.
"Bye Bye Nerdy"- 4/5 - After seeing Mac doing homework during recess, Bloo is convinced that Mac is a nerd. Taking it upon himself to make his friend cooler, Bloo turns Mac into a walking ad for 1987. A great episode! I loved the 80's jokes.
"Bloo Done It" - 5/5 - When Uncle Pockets, a beloved professional friend, returns to the house, Bloo is determined to find dirt on the guy. Using the house newspaper and his ace reporting skills, Bloo discovers a horrible secret! As a student journalist, this episode really left me laughing. Bloo is quite possibly the best reporter ever. Not an ethical one, but still...
--Frankie: "Sounds to me like someone's jealous!"
--Bloo: "Not jealous, journalis...t."
"My So-Called Wife" - 3/5 - While Mr. Herriman and Coco try to impress an eccentric billionaire in order to get funds for the house, Frankie and Mac try to teach Bloo the fine art of sarcasm. They don't fare well...
Great show, great characters, great storylines!! I can't wait for the 3rd season and the introduction of Goo!
Can't Wait!.......2007-07-20
This show is da best show ever! I can't wait for this 2 come out on DVD! So get it!!

Adolescence is an emotionally stormy time for kids, but it's especially so for Shane (Josh Hutcherson), a teenager being raised by single firefighter father Connor (Bruce Greenwood). Add the recent death of Shane's fire-captain uncle (Connor's brother) in the line of duty and the pending closure of their neighborhood "Dogpatch" fire station, and both Shane's propensity for skipping school and brooding in his room and his father's obsession with work seem easily explainable. When a mutt called Dewey, really a very spoiled superstar dog named Rexxx who's been presumed dead after a parachuting stunt gone wrong, turns up in a burning building and is rescued by the Dogpatch crew, Connor puts Shane in charge of caring for the dog and finding its owner. Shane and Dewey clash immediately and Shane is extremely resentful toward both the dog and his father. However, Dewey's special talents (like skateboarding and trampoline jumping), combined with his good fire-fighting instincts, soon win the admiration and affection of Shane and the entire Dogpatch crew. A series of mysterious fires causes Shane and Connor to begin to really communicate and reconnect, but those fires also threaten their very lives. At the same time, Dewey's former owner discovers Dewey's true identity and demands the return of his superstar companion. An engaging dog story that explores the difficulties of growing up and dealing with personal tragedy, Firehouse Dog is a fun family film that's rated PG due to some mildly crude humor (think potty jokes), language, and action peril. --Tami Horiuchi

Very Good.......2007-09-17
It was a very good movie! The DVD was in excellent shape! Will buy from Amazon again.
Pretty good movie-I would not take real young children to it though...........2007-09-12
Director: Todd Holland.
Starring: Josh Hutcherson, Bruce Greenwood, Steven Culp, Bill Nunn.
Old-fashioned family film - which is a good and a bad thing. Good in that it's a wholesome, good-natured kids movie; bad in that the kids are used to something much more these days.
When Rex becomes the firehouse mascot, it keeps the fire fighters' morale high as their station is threatened with closure. Okay, so it might rely on canine bodily function gags to get most of the laughs (Rex snores, farts, burps and poos in the stew), but Firehouse Dog is not entirely a comedy. There's a sizable subplot that deals with mysterious arson.
Hot Mutt.......2007-09-02
This is a good old fashioned family movie about a boy and a dog, and of course, like all shaggy dog tales, the mutt is the star. Celebrity dog Rexxx (note the x's) chucks in his glamorous poodle-filled life to become a firehouse dog, the only fringe benefits being that he can chase the fire-engine and investigate a lot of hydrants.
He adopts a young boy named Shane, who is rather unwilling at first, but after some aerial acrobatics, a few search and rescues and a lot of canine flatulence, Shane finally gets around to appreciating Rexxx, even though he mistakenly believes his name to be Dewey. "Dewey" soon rises to the rank of mascot, and is duly appreciated by the humans, especially the inhabitants of the Dogpatch Fire Station, who although friendly enough, don't seem to be the sharpest tools in the shed.
There are two other stories filling out the movie, one being the relationship between Shane and his firefighter father, and the other being the mystery of the curiously contagious conflagrations in the Dogpatch area.
Corny and cheesy in places, but never whiny, this is a movie you can watch with small kids (your teenagers may be otherwise occupied), but as you will see, the star of this movie is undoubtedly the hot mutt.

Firehouse Dog (The Irish Terrier "Dare Devil").......2007-09-02
This is a great family movie about an irish terrier. Also, I own an irish terrier, and they are beautiful dogs, but need a lot of training initially, as they have a mind of their own. PLEASE do not buy one of these dogs because they are cute, unless you are willing to give it a LIFETIME committment.
Fire;house Dog.......2007-09-01
One of the best Family films I have seen. You don't see many fit to watch anymore, but this one is tops

James Stewart gives one of his finest performances in this lighthearted film, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play.
Stewart stars as the good-natured Elwood P. Dowd, whose constant companion is Harvey, a six-foot tall rabbit that only he can see.
To his sister, Veta Louise, Elwood s obsession with Harvey has been a thorn in the side of her plans to marry off her daughter. But when Veta Louise decides to put Elwood in a mental hospital, a hilarious mix-up occurs and she finds herself committed instead.
It s up to Elwood to straighten out the mess with his kindly philosophy, and his imaginary friend, in this popular classic that features a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award-wining performance by Josephine Hull.

Amazon.com essential video
It's always a small surprise to revisit this movie and realize what a subtly dark performance James Stewart gives as an alcoholic who claims he keeps company with a six-foot-tall, invisible rabbit. As Elwood P. Dowd, the actor emits a faint whiff of decay and spirits, yet Stewart also embraces Dowd's romanticism and grace with splendid ease. Based on a hit play and directed by Henry Koster, the film is terribly funny at times, especially whenever Elwood decides it's only polite to introduce Harvey to complete strangers. The supporting cast can't be beat. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
A Puka for everyone.......2007-09-12
Excellant acting and a delightful story charecterize this movie. Elwood P Dowd (JImmy Stewart) has a Puka and it causes havoc and embarassment for his family until they too learn to stop and smell the roses and realize life is for enjoying and not oneupmanship. One of the great movie classics.
Classic 1950 Film That May Have You Revaluating Your Everyday Behaviour.......2007-09-02
Ever seen a 6 foot three-and-a-half inch Pooka in the form of a rabbit? No, well neither could most of the other characters in this classic 1950 film about a man and his best friend (the Pooka) named Harvey. Harvey is an invisible large rabbit friend to the very friendly and good mannered Elwood P. Dowd, played by James Stewart.
Elwood always looks out for Harvey and makes sure people who come up to talk with him are introduced to his best friend. Elwood also has a bit of a drinking problem but that's not the thing that embarrasses him to his much, much older sister (played by Josephine Hull who won an Oscar for her performance) who while seeing nothing wrong with living off his money and under his roof, sees Elwood as an embarrassment to her social ambitions and plans to marry her daughter off into it. After Elwood embarrasses her in front of a very important party she decides to have Elwood shipped off to a mental asylum but her plan immediately starts to backfire when she is committed instead. As various people talk to Elwood and mental asylum employees try and track him down everyone starts to question if there is in fact anything wrong with Elwood's (and Harvey's) behaviour and maybe if Elwood's outlook on life from his mother to choose pleasant over smart isn't so bad after all and something they could aspire follow a little to as well!
Refreshingly Lighthearted.......2007-08-25
"Harvey" 's companion Mr.O'Dowd is a great , very likable guy. He is very friendly and invites just about everyone he meets to visit him and his sister Vita.
Because of the invisible bunny friend of his, his sister and nieces' social lives are troubled.
There are lots of laughs along the way to a mental institution where it's unanimously decided that there is no harm in Harvey's presence. Even the doctor would love to have Harvey's friendship.
Wonderful for a family movie, and not just for children.
Hilarious, Charming Classic Film .......2007-07-29
HARVEY is a well acted and very funny classic film. James Stewart is Elwood P. Dowd a nice looking, well off, friendly and polite man in his forties with a tendency to drink too much and one little oddity. Almost everywhere Elwood goes his dear friend,Harvey, a six foot three and a half inch invisible (to most people) rabbit goes with him. Elwood's snobbish older sister decides he and Harvey are ruining her and her husband hunting daughter's social life and tries to have him committed to a sanitarium and misunderstandings and hilarity ensue. James Stewart is very good as mild mannered Elwood and Josephine Hull is excellent playing his older sister the part she created on the Broadway stage. Jesse White who is immediately recognizable both from his long role as the lonely Maytag repairman and from many character parts on sitcoms is a scene stealer as a sanitarium employee and the whole film is excellently cast. The set and costumes are authentic looking and the "fashionable" older ladies' fussy hats, furs and hairstyles remind me of the way elderly women were still dressing for special occasions when I was a child growing up in the 60's and 70's. In the film Elwood states his mother always said you have to be either smart or pleasant and he recommends pleasant. I recommend this pleasant movie that is also quite smart.
Great Movie.......2007-07-05
I had never seen this old movie before, but it's a favorite of my husband's so I bought it for him. We watched it and it's now a favorite of mine too. It's a cute story - very simple, but so funny!
I noticed some reviewers commented on the colorized version - we got the black and white version and I recommend it.

When a Great Dane puppy is raised with a litter of Dachshunds, it naturally thinks it's a Dachshund too--even when it grows to 10 times the size. Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette star as the hapless couple who took in the galumphing dog, which wreaks havoc on their house and home. The Ugly Dachshund is mostly a series of spectacular disasters (the doggy demolition of Jones's art studio will delight kids and reduce adults to nervous wrecks), but it's held together by the convincing domestic banter of Jones and Pleshette (who was quite a dish in 1965); the pair went on to star in a couple of other Disney live-action flicks, Bluebeard's Ghost and The Shaggy D.A.. Despite some racial and gender stereotypes, it's a good-natured and amusing movie in the Disney mold. Also featuring classic character actor Charlie Ruggles (Bringing Up Baby, The Parent Trap). --Bret Fetzer
Description
There's magic in the memories as great Disney moments are captured right here for you and your family to enjoy. You don't have to own a pet to enjoy this story of a happy suburban household gone to the dogs! The Garrisons (Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette) are the "proud parents" of three adorable dachshund pups -- and one overgrown Great Dane named Brutus, who nevertheless thinks of himself as a dainty dachsie. His identity crisis results in an uproarious series of household crises that reduce the Garrisons' house to shambles -- and viewers to howls of laughter!

very funny.......2007-08-27
if your a dog lover this is a good one. its an older movie but well worth it.
A Great Movie!!.......2007-07-08
This is a great, classic, Disney film. Every time I watch it it makes me laugh, without having to filter for bad language, inappropriate content, violence, or any number of other things all movies seem to have these days. I am not sure that it classifies as an example of critically acclaimed cinema of our times, but I highly recommend it all the same!
Such a cute movie!.......2007-07-05
Dean Jones makes the best Disney movies. His character always ends up in some kind of competition with a female. He always loses! ;P His wife has these annoying puppies so Jones gets himself a great dane in which all heck breaks lose and brings the comedy full of laughter. You will have to watch to see how it ends!
Awesome Movie!.......2007-05-28
A friend of mine from the office told me about this movie knowing I have a Great Dane of my own. I purchased it and watched it the day it came in the mail! It's such a great movie and truly reflects the life of a Great Dane owner! I give it five stars. :)

Back in 1961, Walt Disney got a little hip with 101 Dalmatians, making use of that flat Saturday morning cartoon style that had become so popular. The result is a kitschy change in animation and story. Pongo and Perdita are two lonely dalmatians who meet cute in a London park and arrange for their pet humans to marry so they can live together and raise a family. They become proud parents of 15 pups, who are stolen by the dastardly Cruella De Vil, who wants to make a fur coat out of them. Cruella has become the most popular villain in all of Disney; she's flamboyantly nasty and lots of fun. But it's the dalmatians who shine in this endearing classic, particularly those precocious pups. Telling the story from the dogs' point of view is a clever conceit, a fundamental flaw of the live-action remake. --Bill Desowitz

101 DALMATIUANS.......2007-07-26
What's there to say? Okay I'll say this.Great family entertainment.
G-rated. Only Disney knew how to please his fans..young & old.Not like today. Some Disney movies are now PG or PG-13.If Disney was alive today...he would not FORSAKE the FAMILY WHOLE! It would be G or nothing at all. There's of course classic Disney movies..like CARS,TOY STORY..all rated G . And they all made $$$ So anyhow..this is pure classic entertainment.
NARICES FRIAS Y CORAZONES CALUROSOS.......2007-07-06
I'll tell you what.......2007-02-17

A Really good movie.......2006-05-16
I loved the animated version of 101 Dalmatinas. I would love to get a copy of the script. The live action 101 Dalmatinas movie was OK. But 102 Dalmatinas stinks ! I need a script so I can remake it in live action.

When egghead Scotty Smalls moves to town just before the summer vacation of 1962, his first priority is to make friends. He heads to the nearby sandlot only to humiliate himself before the local kids, but star player Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez befriends the awkward boy, teaches him the basics of baseball, and welcomes him to the team. It's a summer filled with camaraderie and fun until Smalls hits his first home run. Problem is, Smalls's home run sends his stepfather's "Babe Ruth" autographed baseball into a neighboring yard that's patrolled by a snarling, slobbering monster called "The Beast." Creativity reigns and hilarity ensues when the boys risk everything to retrieve the ball. A final heroic encounter with "The Beast" and his owner yields some very surprising results. Action, humor, and friendship permeate this 101-minute film appropriate for ages 5 and older. Rated PG due to name-calling and some pubescent behavior. --Tami Horiuchi
Description
It's the early 1960s and fifth-grader Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) has just moved into town with his folks (Karen Allen and Denis Leary). Kids call him a dorkhe can't even throw a baseball! But that changes when the leader of the neighborhood gang recruits him to play on the nearby sandlot field. It's the beginning of a magical summer of baseball, wild adventures, first kisses, and fearsome confrontations with the dreaded Beast and its owner (James Earl Jones) who live behind the left field fence. Soon nine boys have become best friends, Scotty is part of a team, and their leader has become a local legend in this hilarious and warmhearted comedy.

GREAT MOVIE.......2007-09-11
I BOUGHT THIS DVD FOR MY 11 YEAR OLD GRANDSON. I JUST RETIRED FROM BEING A DAY CARE PROVIDER FOR 34 YEARS & THIS MOVIE WAS AN ALL TIME FAVORITE, NOT JUST FOR MY BOYS, BUT MY GIRLS AS WELL. AS AN ADULT IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES ALSO. A VERY WHOLESOME, NICE CLEAN MOVIE ABOUT FRIENDS.
The ORIGINAL and ONLY the original.......2007-09-02
I have to go along with the others here. This is a GREAT movie. It never did receive the attention that it deserved. I also agree that this is a much better movie than Rookie of the Year (not that ROTY was a bad movie, but The Sandlot is a better movie).
Both of my sons enjoyed this (and they are 12 years apart) as well as I did - which is saying something!
James Earl Jones is - as usual - fantastic. Dennis Leary lays off the manic act and adds that certain "something" to the movie. The kids who played the characters were well chosen. Whoever picked the cast did an outstanding job.
On a night when you want to relax with your son (or daughter even), or you are watching the grand kids, or if you find you have the evening to yourself - and there isn't anything worth watching (and there never is), put this movie in and relax.
You will find that this is one of those movies that you can watch over and over again without getting tired of it.
Time-tested, terrific flick!.......2007-07-24
I'm 26 years old and still LOVE this movie from when I was much younger. I owned it first on VHS for many years, now DVD, and still watch it on an occasional afternoon when you just want to watch a cute movie. The characters are adorable and hilarious and this movie never goes out of style. Its so great!
Great Service.......2007-07-19
I received my product in perfect condition with great
and timely service. Thank you.
You're killing me, Smalls!.......2007-07-12
"The Sandlot" is an excellent movie based on such topics as friendship, baseball in the old lot, and a crush on that beauty you always see. But what about it makes it so irresistable?
For one thing, it's pure fun. Scotty Smalls is new to the neighborhood, and as his stepfather leaves for a week on a business trip, Scotty loses his stepfather's priceless Babe Ruth-signed baseball, thinking it was just another baseball. Seeing him and all his new-found friends go completely over the top to retrieve the ball from the neighbor's giant beast of a dog is sure to prove a great time.
Not to give too much away, but there's another awesome scene at the city pool where Squints fakes drowning just to make out with his crush, Wendy the lifeguard! You must see the look on his face right before he does so!
At the end of the movie, when the plot is resolved and all is well, the movie catches up with modern times (as it is set in 1962). The older Scotty Smalls is the narrator and tells how each of his friends resulted in their careers and such. It may have been done before, but for me, it's a technique that never, ever gets old!
Aside the main plot, there are quite a few other situations the characters get themselves into, including the summer carnival and a sleepover in the treehouse (a scene which sports the immortal, "You're killing me, Smalls!" line, and a so-ridiculous-it's-awesome campfire tale of The Beast). In addition, there's a baseball game against a Little League team which returns to the baseball overview of the movie.
"The Sandlot", as previously mentioned, is an absolute joyride full of laughs, great, powerful, dramatic moments (especially in Benny's dream) and is a very nostalgic movie that will leave you feeling great, as a great movie should. A summer viewing essential, this is a definite five-star movie!
