Some critics complained that City of Angels could never compare to Wim Wenders's exquisite German film Wings of Desire, which served as the later film's primary inspiration. The better argument to make is that any such comparisons are beside the point, because Wings of Desire was a much more deeply poetic, artfully contemplative film, whereas City of Angels is an enchanting product of mainstream Hollywood. Meg Ryan stars as Dr. Maggie Rice, a heart surgeon who is grieving over a lost patient when an angel named Seth (Nicolas Cage) appears to comfort her. She can see him despite the "rule" that angels are invisible, and Seth's love for Maggie forces him to choose between angelic immortality and a normal human existence on earth with her. Featuring heavenly roles for TV veterans Andre Braugher and Dennis Franz, the film liberally borrows imagery from Wings of Desire, but it also creates its own charming identity. Cage and Ryan give fine performances as lovers convinced they are soul mates, and although the plot relies on a last-minute twist that doesn't quite work, this earnest love story struck a chord with audiences and proved to be one of the surprise hits of 1998. The Special Edition widescreen DVD includes audio commentary by Nicolas Cage, producer Charles Roven, and director Brad Silberling in addition to deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes documentary, a featurette about the film's special effects, and the theatrical trailer. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars A little Predictable, Great Performances.......2007-09-03

For you Meg Ryan fans [10 years ago], this may well be the best performance of her career. She is utterly believable as a young heart surgeon who falls in love with a haunting Nicholas Cage [her angel]. I found Cage's performance strong [because he is a strong actor], but in this case, not strong enough to maintain my suspension of disbelief. The script is a little heavy-handed on the metaphors, like Ryan's "heart surgeon" role, and the fact that angels must literally "fall" out of their protective, celestial perches in order to experience what humans feel when they "fall in love." I dunno. Maybe thse are minor points, but they seemed a tad hokey to me. What happens as we follow the foibles of Nick's coming to terms with human frailty - as well as the conclusion - are also a little predictable. I did, however, love Dennis Franz's performance as a fallen angel who learned to accept - and adapt to - his new role as a human being. He brought some much-needed levity to a script that might have otherwise found itself drowning in self-indulgence. In the end, this is a film about true love, and about how much we're willing to give - or let go of - in order to feel it in the first place. In a world where everything is over-analyzed, and caution is at an all-time high, it was a welcomed relief to visit this over-the-top look at romantic love one last time...before we forget it ever existed. Maybe that's why I gave it 4 stars.

1 out of 5 stars Wings of Desire is better by far.......2007-05-16

"Wings of Desire" (the movie that "City of Angels" is loosely inspired upon), is a masterpiece and "City of Angels" is...is... how could I explain it not being too rude? It is just a piece of junk in comparison. Somebody wrote that he didn't like "Wings of Desire" because he didn't feel the same as he felt watching "City of Angels". I agree in the "feeling" part, because I felt nausea watching "City of Angels" and that didn't happen to me watching "Wings of Desire"!! I own "Wings of Desire" and have seen it and enjoyed it many times. Regarding "City of Angels", well I rented it and barely could see it once!

2 out of 5 stars The Original Is Better.......2007-05-13

Back in 1988, on a friend's recommendation, I saw "Wings of Desire" in the theater and loved it. Subsequently, I was interested when Hollywood made its own version of Wim Wender's film with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan, both actors whose work I've enjoyed. I saw "City of Angels," and for the most part I liked it -- that is, until the very end. What a DOWNER!! No matter that the movie gets all psedo-warmfuzzy-philosophical and time-to-get-out-your-handkerchiefs, it misses the point of the original film, which was a celebration of Human Life and Love. I own the DVD of "Wings of Desire." One viewing of "City of Angels" was enough for me.

Based on the chilling bestseller by Stephen King, Misery was brought to the screen by director Rob Reiner as one of the most effective thrillers of the 1990s. From a brilliant adaptation by screenwriter William Goldman, Reiner turned King's cautionary tale of fame and idolatry into a mainstream masterpiece of escalating suspense, translating King's own experience with obsessive fans into a frightening tale of entrapment and psychotic behavior. Kathy Bates deservedly won an Academy Award for her performance as Annie Wilkes, an unbalanced devotee of romance novels written by Paul Sheldon (James Caan), whose books provide Annie with a much-needed escape from her pathetic life and her secret, violent past. After Annie rescues the injured Sheldon from a car accident, she seizes the opportunity to nurse her favorite writer back to health, but her tender loving care soon turns to terrorism as she demands that Sheldon write his latest novel according to her wish-fulfillment fantasies. From this point forward, Misery percolates to a boil as equal parts mystery, thriller, and cleverly dark comedy, with the helpless author pitched in deadly warfare against his number one fan. While Bates carefully modulates her role from doting kindness to sympathetic loneliness and finally to horrifying ferocity, Caan is equally superb as the celebrated author who must literally write for his life. It's essentially a two-actor film, but Richard Farnsworth and Lauren Bacall are excellent in supporting roles as they investigate the writer's mysterious disappearance. Frightening, funny, and totally irresistible, Misery was such a hit that some of Bates's dialogue entered the popular lexicon (particularly her nagging reference to Caan as "Mister Man"), and its nail-biting thrills remain timelessly intense. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Misery is still a classic.......2007-07-09

Everytime I watch *Misery* I find that I still cannot stand to watch the scene where Anne Wilkes (Bates) hammers Paul Sheldon's (Caan) feet to keep him from escaping. Yes, I know that's the best part of the entire movie but I still cannot look at it. I have to turn away.

Paul Sheldon is a writer who has written many books with a character named Misery. However, Paul has grown weary with Misery and has decided to kill her off in the last book of the series. After completing the manuscript, Paul veers off a shoulder in a blizzard while on his way to see his editor. As luck would have it, his number one fan, Anne, former and disgraced nurse, discovers the crash and rescues him. However, not only does she rescues him but she also holds him hostage.

Anne cannot stand the idea that there is an end to Misery. So, Paul is ordered to redo the entire book to Anne's liking. For the entire winter, Paul rewrites his book but also plans his escape.

*Misery* remains to be a classic as it is still a good nail-biter of a film. It can be a little long for some people but it is worth it all. I still think this is the best of Kathy Bates.

3 out of 5 stars Okay.......2007-06-19

The book was better. In fact, the book had more blood and gore in it, than in the movie. The book also has a much better ending to it. But the Lauren person who played Anne Wilkes did an awesome job of it.

5 out of 5 stars Ankles Away..........2007-06-13

Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) is one of the best horror / thriller icons since Hitchcock's Norman Bates, right up there w/ Dr. Lecter! She is both terrifying and pitiful at the same time, causing simultaneous fear and sympathy. Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is Annie's perfect foil, doing all the wrong things, and making Annie have to (in her troubled mind, anyway) resort to sadistic control tactics in order to keep him honest, thus preserving her own little dreamworld. The relationship between captor and captive is hellish, humorous, and increasingly twisted, as Paul tries to stay alive. If you don't own MISERY, just buy it right now...

4 out of 5 stars No James Caans Were Harmed In The Making Of This Movie........2007-05-01

This was a very well made triller(if you wanna call it that). It's creepy and relistic at the same time. Kathy Bates is great in everything. Shes a real underrated actress. I was never a big James Caan fan, but in this movie he is really, really good. This movie is not flashy, its not gory, its not body counts. Its just one very creepy tale.

This documentary is a close examination into what some consider to be a "hoax": aspartame toxicity. This documentary attempts to look at what is definitively known about aspartame and discovers that the label "hoax" in this case is a dangerous misconception. This controversial documentary is sure to open eyes to the possible dangers of what lurks in our food.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Incredible!.......2007-08-06

I was a big diet coke drinker until I saw this documentary! They do a very thorough job of uncovering the timeline and key people involved in the FDA's approval of aspartame... can you believe that Donald Rumsfeld was the president of the company that manufactures asparatame when it finally got FDA approval!!! Lots of political information and background. I highly recommend this!!!

5 out of 5 stars a must see.......2007-07-31

Now I can show people what I have been trying to explain for decades. The poisons added to our food is a disgrace. We are slowly being killed in the name of profit. Anyone suffering from illness or disease should view this movie and learn how to rid their bodies of harmful chemicals and begin the road to good health.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2007-05-07

A comprehensive and thoroughly damning expose of FDA complicity in marketing a known toxic substance to an unsuspecting public.

4 out of 5 stars An engaging video.......2007-04-20

It's a very interesting video which explained the facts behind aspartamine in an easy to understand manner.

I was a little disappointed it didn't go into the chemical composition very much... as that's central to understanding the problem... but if you know the hazards of methanol you will appreciate the toxic effects of this substance.

A few illustrations of methanol poisoning from news reports wouldn't have gone astray... as most people aren't familiar with it's effects.

It took me two goes before it all really clicked (it's almost beyond belief in places).

Despite this the message is clear... the message is compelling... and shocking.

It puts a new light on the political machinations that are driving organisations like the FDA. It also puts a new light on a few politicians which you might have thought of as relatively spotless. Ouch!!!

If you've got friends who use artificial sweetners... get them to start using something safer. This video should do the trick.

:-)

5 out of 5 stars The bitter truth about an artificial sweetener.......2007-03-29

Just over a year ago, I became a statistic when I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. After moving past that initial shock, it occurred to me that I could still enjoy many items because of the convenience of the `artificial sweetener' Aspartame. I took it on faith that it was tested and deemed safe by the FDA so I frequently used products that contained it. After watching Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World and realizing that I'm naïve, I should have done my homework and found out just what it was that I'd been ingesting. Needless to say, I will never again eat or drink anything containing Aspartame.

What is Aspartame exactly? Apart from it being called an artificial sweetener I mean? Well, in a word, it's poison. That may sound a little extreme but when you analyze the known information, there really is no other way to categorize it. Let's take a look.

Aspartame is broken down into 3 parts which consist of Phenylalanine, Aspartic Acid, and Methyl Ester. When swallowed, Methyl Ester immediately turns into Methyl Alcohol (a.k.a. Methanol, a.k.a. Wood Alcohol). This substance is very poisonous to the human body. Aspartame has been linked to 92 different medical symptoms, some of which are also associated with Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Lupus, and Fibromyalgia. A predominant number of these symptoms are neurological problems. After discontinuing use of Aspartame laden products, individuals 'detoxifying' themselves have felt their adverse reactions decrease and show a marked improvement in health. This is strong circumstantial evidence lending credence to the fact that Aspartame is poisonous to the body. Common sense states that not everyone will have the same acute reactions to Aspartame toxicity. Information in the documentary shows that those who consumed large quantities of products containing Aspartame were showing severe symptoms sooner rather than later. Others who use these products less frequently are probably setting themselves up for health problems in their future.

In the late 1970's, the maker of Aspartame, G.D. Searle, attempted to get it approved for public consumption. Initial tests were not favorable due to health hazards created by the substance (when tested on lab animals, brain tumors didn't prove to be very popular). This didn't fit the agenda for G.D. Searle so they decided to put the ethics aside. Upon later investigation, just some of the following information was discovered: improper lab testing, fabricated test results, destruction of medical evidence showing toxicity, tampering with medical records and scientific data, and critical study documentation purposefully withheld from the FDA.

In 1980, a public board of inquiry voted unanimously to reject the use of Aspartame for public use until more tests were conducted. Once again, this was unacceptable to the G.D. Searle Company. By way of unethical political maneuvering and a total lack of professional behavior, the FDA, the government, and G.D. Searle completely disregarded public safety and got Aspartame approved for public consumption. And this was after 3 senior scientists from the FDA pleaded with the `powers that be' not to release this product. Unbelievable but true. This entire ordeal is explained in detail in Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World and it's downright appalling. In 1983, now being approved, Aspartame was finally unleashed on the unsuspecting public for the first time. Only 6 months after Aspartame hit the streets, so to speak, the following health statistics were noticed: brain tumors were up by 10%, Diabetes was up by 30%, and brain lymphoma (a very aggressive type of brain tumor) was up by 60%. To add insult to injury, in 1988, of all the food additive complaints reported to the FDA, 80% of these concerned Aspartame.

To get an idea of how prevalent Aspartame is, it can be found in these following products (just to name a few):

Soft drinks, vitamin & herb supplements, yogurt, instant breakfasts, candy, breath mints, cereals, sugar-free chewing gum, cocoa mixes, coffee beverages, instant breakfasts, gelatin desserts, frozen desserts, juice beverages, laxatives, milk drinks, shake mixes, tabletop sweeteners (NutraSweet & Equal), tea beverages, instant teas and coffees, topping mixes, wine coolers.

Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World is a very straightforward documentary and while the material presented is highly informative and absolutely necessary, it is also distressing and unpleasant. I commend the producers of this work for their courage to stand up and expose the shocking behavior of big business and government and their utter disregard for the greater good...the public at large. For everyone concerned about their health and knowing that knowledge is power, I seriously recommend this documentary to all of you.

    Misery
The Dark Half
Although it lacks the creepy subtleties of Stephen King's celebrated novel, George Romero's underrated adaptation of The Dark Half ranks among the best films based on King's fiction, with Romero taking care to honor King's central theme while serving up some gruesome gore in the film's much-criticized finale. Inspired by King's own admission that he wrote several novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Dark Half explores the duality of a writer's impulse, ranging from literary respectability to the viscerally cathartic thrills of exploitative pulp fiction. Author and teacher Thad Beaumont (Timothy Hutton) finds himself torn between those extremes when he "kills" his profitable, pseudonymous alter ego George Stark (the bestselling "dark half" to Thad's light), who then assumes an evil, autonomous form (again played by Hutton) to lethally defend his role in Thad's creative endeavors. Forced to wrestle with this evil manifestation of his own unformed twin, Thad must fight to protect his wife (Amy Madigan), their twin babies, and his own survival as an artist. Romero skillfully develops the twin/duality theme to explore the writer's dilemma, and Hutton is outstanding in his dual roles, playing Stark (in subtly fiendish makeup) as a redneck rebel with a knack for slashing throats. Julie Harris adds class in a supporting role, and horror fans will relish Romero's climactic showdown, in which swarms of sparrows seal Stark's fate. It favors a pulp sensibility with clunky exposition to explain Stark's existence, but The Dark Half is a laudable effort from everyone involved. --Jeff Shannon

    Needful Things
Stephen King adaptations are strictly hit-or-miss propositions, and this supernatural thriller from 1993 is definitely a "miss," based on one of King's lesser novels and starring Max von Sydow as the evil proprietor of a small-town antique shop named "Needful Things." That's the place where anyone can go to find the one thing they cherish the most (the town's aging jock finds his old, high-school letterman's jacket there, for example), but of course there's a price for such priceless keepsakes. Yep, that's right ... von Sydow is Satan, and his customers pay for "needful things" with their souls. The sheriff (Ed Harris) catches onto this hellish predicament, and, well ... let's just say things go downhill from there, with von Sydow delivering sardonic wisecracks as he wreaks devilish havoc on the town. Lots of stuff gets blown to bits, by which time this movie has long since worn out its welcome. Harris and von Sydow do their best to liven up the dreary scenario (directed by Charlton Heston's son, Fraser), but this is strictly for die-hard King fans, and even then the recommendation is marginal. --Jeff Shannon

    Carrie
This terrifying adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel was directed by shock maestro Brian De Palma for maximum, no-holds-barred effect. Sissy Spacek stars as Carrie White, the beleaguered daughter of a religious kook (Piper Laurie) and a social outcast tormented by her cruel, insensitive classmates. When her rage turns into telekinetic powers, however, school's out in every sense of the word. De Palma's horrific climax in a school gym lingers forever in the memory, though the film is also built upon Spacek's remarkable performance and Piper Laurie's outlandishly creepy one. John Travolta has a small part as a thug, De Palma's future wife, Nancy Allen, is his girlfriend, and Amy Irving makes her screen debut as one of the girls giving Carrie a hard time. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Three of these movies rock and one sucks........2007-03-26

An good set for the most part. Three of these movies are excellent and those films (Carrie, Misery, and The Dark Half) do justice to their books. Tha last one, however (Needful Things) is just a butchered mess. Just buy this for the three good films and junk the bad one.

4 out of 5 stars Mixed bag of classics and also rans.......2005-12-31

While this set doesn't include all the best films made from King's novels, at least two of these are absolute classics. "Misery" is available here as a full and widescreen presentation. The image quality is decent here but it could look a whole lot better. There aren't any notable special features which is too bad--in the UK and Europe this has been released as a "Special Edition" with commentary by Director Rob Reiner and Writer William Goldman.

"Carrie" is the "Special Edition" released a couple of years back. The anamorphic widescreen presentation looks extremely good. This edition features "Acting Carrie" a very good documentary with Stars Sissy Spacek, Amy Irving and others. We also get "Visualizing Carrie" a documentary featuring Brian DePalma discussing his approach to the film. "Carrie: The Musical" a featurette on the disasterous Broadway version. Finally there's background on Stephen King and his novel as well as an animated photo gallery with behind-the-scenes photos. There's no commentary track from DePalma or any of the stars.

"The Dark Half" had much promise but George Romero's film of King's novel doesn't quite live up to its potential. Still, the film has its moments unfortunately this full screen presentation of the film doesn't do it justice. There's no extra features to speak of and the transfer is so-so and the film really would benefit from a widescreen presentation and commentary track by Romero.

"Needful Things" always felt over-the-top to me. It has a fine screenplay by W. D. Richter ("Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and "Stealth") but Fraser Heston's direction seems intent on proving his chops as a director at the expense of the story. The transfer is pretty good here as well. A couple of terrific performances highlight the movie including the late J.T. Walsh, Max Von Sydow, Ed Harris. Despite the potential here "Needful Things" just misses the mark despite an excellent cast and production design.

So I'd give five stars to "Carrie" and "Misery"; two stars for "The Dark Half" and "Needful Things". It's a pity that this set just repackages previous releases and doesn't have another disc of extras. This is a economic way to get all four films if you must have them but, really, only two of these films are essential.

3 out of 5 stars Good value, light on features.......2005-08-10

This collection is pretty good, but there really were no special features. Good value if you are a Stephen King fan and are just in it for the films themselves.

5 out of 5 stars Great Stephen King movies.......2005-06-29

Movies derived from Stephen King's novels range from excellent (THE SHINING) to excremental films like Dreamcatcher. This DVD Collector Set has 4 of the greatest adaptations of Stephen King's impressive novels. MISERY (1990) is a top-notch thriller and one of the best that has ever been made. Psychological thrillers are the best of the genre thanks to an Oscar-winning performance from Kathy Bates as the obsessed fan. Set in the deserted part of America, moody and lethargic Stephen King delivers great human suffering, vanished and broken on the borders of true hell, ran by obsessed woman. James Caan is Paul Sheldon, an author who kills off his popular literary character Misery. Problem is, Annie Wilkes (Bates) reads his heroin-offing book, and goes a little crazy... The ankle-breaking scene is excruciating, and the final brutal fight between Caan and Bates is vicious. Like the excellent SECRET WINDOW, an obsessed fan getting a little too fanatical with the author's stories is a re-occurring theme. Everything in the film is absolutely great: acting, script, directing and a chilly musical score from Mark Shaiman.

THE DARK HALF (1993) is a movie with an implausible plot, but is executed very well. In fact, it's done so well that you end up forgetting how implausible it is. So if you postpone your disbelief a little, chances are you'll like it. Horror master George A. Romero handles the suspense very professionally, but above all, Timothy Hutton's acting is the stand out of the film. His portrayal of Southern madman (ghost) George Stark is intense and will make you thinks of straight razors in a whole new light. Not a horror classic, but original and it does get a few scares out of you. The Stephen King book was better, but the film does a surprisingly good job of adapting it. NEEDFUL THINGS (1993) is a fascinating story of a mysterious old man (Max von Sydow) who opens a novelty shop in a sleepy little Maine town. He has something that everyone wants, but wants something in return from everyone. Simple currency has little allure for this devilish merchant. He feeds off hate and carnage, and uses the simple townsfolk to carry out his desires. CARRIE is possibly the best King adaptation, and one of the most faithful. The problem with some movies derived from his novels, is that some inept directors norse up the source material by changing too much. But thankfully Brian DePalma gets this just right. Sissy Spacek turns in a great performance and John Travolta started his acting career in 1976 in his first movie. Put together with MISERY and DARK HALF, this is a very impressive collection of King movies and a must-have for horror buffs.

5 out of 5 stars King best movies.......2003-07-15

These are some of the best movies that are based from Stephen King novels. Carrie is a movie that any Stephen King fan must own. To have it on a box set with Misery is best. Dalf Half is also pretty good. For most who haven't seen it is about thee other half of the writter and how it can take control when it feels threaten. Needful things is a movie that goes beyond horror and teaches people a lesson. These are a few of Stephen King best movies. Which fans must own to have a true King's Collection.

      Product Description

REMBETIKO, a unique and fascinating drama from Greece, uses a heart-wrenching story to explore rembetika music, a form of urban blues that was popular among the lower classes and social outcasts through much of the 20th century.
Greek actress Sotiria Leonardou, who also co-scripted, stars as Marika, a rembetika singer whose family immigrated to Greece from Smyrna after the Turks pillaged the city in 1922. The family s hard life in the slums of Piraeas provides a colorful backdrop to explain the origins and meaning of rembetiko. Marika s rise as a singer parallels the political history of Greece, connecting the times to the music. Her life is full of torment, and her pain is evident in her singing.
Often compared to American blues, rembetiko is a passionate style of music that expresses the history and depth of a lost culture. REMBETIKO offers a glimpse into that culture through the turbulent story and the haunting original soundtrack by Stavros Xarhakos.

      Description

A "heart-stopping psychological thriller" (Joel Siegel) this Academy Award(r)-winning* film is "one of the best horror movies" (Time) ever. Adapted from a Stephen King story by Oscar(r)-winning** screenwriter William Goldman (All the President's Men) and directed by Rob Reiner (A Few Good Men), this chiller starring Kathy Bates (Titanic) and James Caan (The Godfather), is "a Hitchcockian kind of cat-and-mouse" (The New York Times) gameplayed between two cunning mindsone as sharp as a tack and the other as blunt as a sledgehammer. Novelist Paul Sheldon (Caan) doesn't remember the blinding blizzard that sent his car spinning off the road. Nor does he remember being nursed back from unconsciousness. All he remembers iswaking up in the home of Annie Wilkes (Bates)a maniacal fan who is bent on keeping her favorite writer as her personal prisoner for the rest of his "cock-a-doodie" life! *1990: Actress (Bates) **1969: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; 1976: All the President's Men

      5 out of 5 stars excellent seller!.......2007-05-19

excellent seller, price, condition, and fast shipping! Would buy from again in a heartbeat!

3 out of 5 stars SEX DRIVEN SILLY FILM....DOES HAVE SOME LAUGHS!!.......2004-05-31

THE MISERY BROTHERS is the concoction of writer/director/actor Lorenzo Doumani, and he even uses his actress wife, Brenda. I first came upon them with the well done, if uneven, horror spoof BUG BUSTER.
This really corny and derivative comedy spoofs everything from JFK and Marilyn Monroe to "A Few Good Men" and "The Godfather."
Most of the jokes miss horribly, but there at least a half dozen that really work well. Doumani and veteran character actor Leo Rossi play the Misery brothers, who stand to inherit 200 million dollars from their gangster fathers estate IF they do two things: not get arrested for any felonies for at least a year; and secondly, get married within that year. If they don't the money will go to Rev Scheister's Second Son of Christ church. You know from here what will happen. But it doesn't really matter as the movie is simply a vehicle for over the hill actors to have fun. For example:
ABE VIGODA plays the gangster dad, Don Frito Layleone, head of the huge food chain syndicate.
PAT MORITA appears as Judge Ben E Hana, who serves justice with a variety of culinary weapons.
DR. JOYCE BROTHERS appears at the very end to hear the Misery boys' story. (A previous listener dies during the story).
NELL CARTER shows up as a witness who don't know nuttin.
NORM CROSBY has a field day as the prosecuting attorney who uses most of his words in erroneous context (He's really funny).
ERIK ESTRADA appears as the jail warden who breaks into an Elvis Presley impersonation of the Misery Blues. (His jump suit, however, is red).
LOU FERRIGNO isn't green in this one, but he riotously plays the brothers' servant, chauffeur, cook, etc.
SHERMAN HELMSLEY is the villainous Rev. Scheister, and Don King effigy.
RODDY PIPER appears as a wrestling referee who officiates a tag team match between the brothers and two prostitutes (who later show up unexplainably dead?).
FRANK STALLONE appears as Frank the cop, with as much brain matter as his famous brother's Rocky character.
Musical numbers come out of nowhere, and although one is very funny, the others fall flat.
There are tons of bodacious bosomy babes, none of them with any acting talent, but one cowgirl is hilarious when she tries to execute the boys.
THIS IS DEFINITELY A GUILTY PLEASURE, but it does have enough laughs to entertain you.

      5 out of 5 stars excellent seller!.......2007-05-19

excellent seller, price, condition, and fast shipping! Would buy from again in a heartbeat!

Although this would not be my ultimate set it is a very good one. Up front let me say I have not bought this set but was wondering about it. I took a close look and saw that I have most these movies and have seen the rest. If you don't already own these movies it is a great buy. If you figure the movies are worth at least ten dollars a piece you can see that you are certainly getting your moneys worth. Some are down right excellent movies and others aren't bad. I don't recall a one in the bunch being a stinker so you can't go wrong. I recommend it to anyone that is just getting their DVD library started. The set includes "Silence of the Lambs", "Misery", "Fargo", "Manhunter", "Hannibal", "Kalifornia", "Eye of the Needle", "House of Games", "Gangster No. 1", "The January Man", "Malice", "Perfect Strangers", "Special Effects", and "Dead Man Walking". Check the individual reviews on these and you will see it is a good set. The only movie I wasn't impressed with was "Special Effects".
