Not bad for a sequel .......2007-09-14

This is a legendary movie no way it is as good as the first one though the ending kinda sucked.But if u love halloween movies or horror movies then yes pick this movie up to add to youe collection. its short and to the point.the movie starts off right after the first one and all threw its theres killing running screaming so dont let youre kids watch it pick this movie up u will enjoy give it a shot like i did.

2000 years later, we've come no further.......2007-08-31

In putting together this sequel, the powers-that-be decided to combine several of the strongest elements from the original film(Michael Myers, Dr. Loomis, the strong Halloween atmosphere)with the standard pace of an early 80's slasher film(people getting killed every 5-10 minutes.) For me, this is the ideal combination. There has not been a slasher movie since that I have liked as well.
Dr. Loomis is my favorite horror hero, and Michael Myers my favorite horror villain. They both enjoy some of their finest moments in this installment. I find this version of Myers creepier than the later incarnations, where he has suddenly grown into something resembling an nfl lineman. There is something in the deliberate movements, and the angular figure, that is decidedly inhuman. And Dr. Loomis elevates all of this to a far higher level than it could ever have achieved otherwise.His strength,courage, and iron will make him a hero. So do his moral concerns about seeing innocent people butchered. But there is also something in his personality that makes him the ideal adversary for the Bogeyman.Of course, as a psychiatrist, he feels professional responsibility. But it goes well beyond that. There is some part of his imagination that is obsessed with Myers, and some part of his humanity that is appalled by him. These feelings, taken in concert with his naturally heroic nature, make him the perfect combatant for Myers.
This movie has the ideal pace. The story is divided between Myers stalking people at the hospital, and Dr. Loomis working with the local police to track him down. Slowly, methodically, Michael Myers begins to remove the employees of the hospital, as he makes his way towards Laurie Strode.As always, he operates like a hunter, or sportsman. Several of his victims are given opportunities to save themselves, as they were in the first film. This is what sets Myers apart from typical killers-he is rather like an artist of the macabre. If it's too easy, he almost seems to regard it as beneath him. Of all the killings, my favorite is the nurse in the room with the aquarium. That whole scene is beautifully shot and lit, with the aquarium casting all sorts of reflections across the darkened room, and the cadaverous face of Myers gradually coming into view over the doomed girl's shoulder.The murder of the security guard is effective, as well.
The atmosphere is perfect. The long, winding hallways are ideal for a movie of this sort.There are just so many places where Michael Myers could be. The effect is only intensified as the night wears on and the primary lights are extinguished.The music is great, too. It incorporates the basic Halloween theme, but it has been altered enough to set it apart from any of the other films. It's not really a tangible thing: all of the elements just work for me.The doomed people, congregated in the dark hospital. The Bogeyman, always lurking in the shadows.Dr. Loomis, making his way ever closer to the scene of the slaughter.This is a film I never get tired of watching.

Great Sequel.......2007-08-30

This movie is on par with the original. It takes off where the first one left off. Donald Pleasence is a excellent actor and Jamie Lee Curtis is as well, as the girl in distress. The reason why I like the Halloween series is that there is a story behind the movies. It also feels like an epsiode of the Twilight Zone. I feel trapped with Laurie in the movie and trying to get away from Myers. Its the best horror sequel that has ever been made.

Bloodier, Sillier Sequel; Not a Bad Follow-up.......2007-08-27

And then, the music...

The sequel to (at the time) the scariest and most successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN II is, probably, a better-looking film than the original. After all, there was a major studio behind this one--along with a new director and a disco-fied version of the original soundtrack that, surely, sounded SO COOOOL when the film was originally released. And the good news is that the movie's not half bad. Nowhere nearly as powerful as the original, it goes without saying, but entertaining enough.

Somewhere between the release of the original and the filming of this sequel, two important things happened. First, FRIDAY the 13th was released, ushering in a new era of mandatory gore for horror films. Second, Carpenter and Hill (both producing) realized that they had a lot of night left over from the end of HALLOWEEN. Consequently, new director Rick Rosenthal came in and made the sequel the second half of the same night as the first, and Michael traded in his very traditional kitchen knife for a hammer, scalpel, syringe, and .... steambath? Yikes!

The result is suspenseful, but predictable, horror fare with a lot of silliness. I liked it. Now, on to some trivia:

The ending to the first HALLOWEEN was actually re-shot nearly frame for frame for the beginning of this one (so that the film stock would match, I'm sure), but purists will notice a couple glaring differences: 1) Loomis fires seven shots from his six-shooter in this version, and 2) when the good doctor comes outside, he acts like he only realizes then--as opposed to the balcony shot in part I--that Michael has gone. Quibbles, yes, but I'm a fan.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger........2007-08-12

If this is true Michael Myers should enter into a world's strongest man competition.

I loved the original Halloween, I think it is one of the greatest horror movies there is and a great movie period. I liked the mystery of Michael Myers in the original and I bought into everything, any plot holes were ignored because I was so into the movie. For me horror is scary when it is realistic or I can relate in someway or the movie does such a good job I buy into what I am seeing. In this sequel i found myself annoyed by things or pointing out things that couldn't happen the movie never really got me.

I'd like to also point out I am not anti remake or sequel. John Carpenter himself has done one of the great horror remakes in The Thing [HD DVD] starring Kurt Russell. I didn't hate this nor did I love it. I think it is essential for horror fans in filling in the connection between Michael and Laurie. If this title had eluded you and you had seen the original and all other sequels you'd still know the connection but would be confused. I also do not believe this was made just for money and think John Carpenter was giving the horror fans what they wanted which was more Michael Myers and I think he makes a good effort trying to feed that hunger picking up literally from the original.

I always like to watch a movie fresh before reviewing and I did that with Halloween 2, however going by memory I would confidently say this is the strongest sequel of the bunch, and is worth a viewing.

I would give the dvd features but on the Goodtimes home video version of Halloween 2 there are none at all. The audio is only done in 3 channel Dolby digital and I have seen much better transfers.

**Interesting facts from the Internet Movie Database**
- This is the only Halloween film to show the morning after the 31st, every other movie ends on Halloween night.

- The film that the security guard and the Elrods are watching is Night of the Living Dead. (Which actually gets interrupted with reports on Michael Myers, maybe someone is trying to say something here.)

- The 17-year-old who was hit by the police car and burnt alive, at first believed to be Michael Myers, was supposed to be Ben Tramer, the boy Laurie confesses to have a crush in in the original Halloween. (Talk about having a bad nite)

- Believing Rick Rosenthal's version of the film to be too tame, John Carpenter shot a few gory scenes that were added into the film despite Rosenthal's objections.

My son in Iraq had been watching this movie with a few of his room mates when they had an attack and was unable to finish it. So we bought this one so they could see the movie when ever they wanted to. We have always enjoyed this movie and understand the folks in Iraq did also.

This is a great movie. I'd already owned it as VHS and have been purchasing all my old favorites in DVD...and this was one I had to have.
Plenty of action....suspense and excitement. It really is one you'll enjoy time and time again.

A Science Fiction Classic.......2007-09-05

A definite sci-fi classic. A masterpiee through and through. One of James Cameron's best. An underwater tale that does not disappoint.

Highly recommended, but if you can, catch the Two Disc set. the extras are magnificient.

Its alright.......2007-06-20

Plot: A father and his son live alone together and run some kind of store out it the country. Some 'city people' show up and one accidentely hits the fathers son with his motorcycle. The father wants revenge and goes and hires some witch to conjure up this demon called Pumpkinhead to kill all of them but gets more than be bargained for. He starts to have some kind of psychic connection with the Demon, then when he figures out how bad he screwed up he tries to kill it himself.

The atmosphere is good. Very eerie, Good use of colors, perfect movie to watch on Halloween. Only reason I give it 3 stars is cause im not big into monsters but its really like 4 stars for people who like that stuff. If youre into monsters and fairy tales and stuff like that youll like this one. Its more a kids type of movie to me. Overall, it was a good story but nothing spectacular.

Ok I guess.......2007-05-05

My biggest gripe with this movie is that it credits Richard Weinman with the story when in actual fact it originally appeared in an old warren magazine EERIE #11. In fact, the cover depicts the same creature, same color in the same type of swamp. It seems movie makers today (1980s to the present) can only steal ideas, not create them. Unless you happened to have grew up in the 1970s, loving comic books, you won't be privy to how much today is swiped in both books and movies and entertainment in general.

Creepy Vision from Director Stan Winston.......2007-02-18

Horror can be defined in many ways and by many names. Add PUMPKINHEAD to that list!
Actor Lance Henriksen (one of the most underated actors in film history in my opinion) makes this film a timeless and authentic horror classic. Right up there with The Evil Dead only nobody will be laughing.

Watch what you do or PUMPKINHEAD will be looking for you.

Pumpkinhead is scary and awesome at the same time. I watched this when I was around three years old. I've seen it almost a dozen times since then. This is one of my favorite movies of all times. You should definetley buy this if you want to be scared.

A gift for my son - the Pumpkin DVD........2007-01-12

My son collects horror movies, and was having difficulty finding a copy of the original movie "Pumpkin Head" on DVD. He rarely has time to search on the internet with work and two little children, so he put it on his Christmas wish list. I have used Amazon before to locate hard to find items that weren't available in stores (i.e., the book "Millie" by Barbara Bush, and the DVD "Peggy Sue Got Married"). Therefore, I had full confidence that I would find what I was looking for on Amazon. You are a great resource for hard to find items. Keep up the good work!

when you have Ricahrd E. Grant as the Good Guy Hunting Julian Sands (as of course the Warlock) to which he plays the part as if it was Made For Him. I am Not Kidding i believed he belonged in all of the warlock movies but sadly someone in casting always has a "better idea" NOT! anyway this flic is about grant as the hunter after the warlock for a multitude of reasons including the loss of his sweet marion. well the hunter (grant) meets a modern day gal (think 80"s skate chick) and wham perfect mix for horror comedy and even some really interesting special effects such as the 3 parts of the Grand Grimoire that all Warlocks Covet for it is the book that can render the weilder almost unkillable and able to undo creation itself! so watch this (lil slow in the early parts- Not the beginning) action packed thriller and enjoy it like you would have in the times when you believed in magic and go for another magical ride mainly for adults. no nudity thankfully little gore and quite a bit of "evil" in the movie. id rate it tv- 13 by todays standings. its ok to say satan in church but not movies? cmon n lighten up hehe.

Julian Sands was good as the warlock who travels through time looking for his book of evil. The warlock hunter was sincere and true to his character. This movie could have been better with more CGI. But as it stands it was ok. Enjoy!

AN ENTERTAINING AND VERY FUN WITCHCRAFT FILM.......2006-10-05

This film, released in 1991, is recommended for those who like fun and entertaining witchcraft films. The film stars a powerful warlock (Julian Sands) who is about to be executed by witchhunters. However, he escapes with the help of Satan, and is thrust into modern-day Los Angeles. What ensues is a fun and entertaining film, in which the witchhunter (Richard E. Grant) goes in pursuit of the warlock. He must prevent the warlock from seeking a special book that has been divided up, and scattered across the United States.

The warlock is seeking the holy bible of Satanic holy bibles. When the book is found, then speaking God's name will cause all of God's creation to be undone. The warlock encounters (Lori Singer) and puts a spell on her in which she ages rapidly. In turn, she helps the witchhunter (Grant) to locate the warlock. The film does have cheesy special effects, but damn good cheesy effects. I found the film fun and entertaining. With Ricahrd E. Grant as the witchhunter, and Julian Sands portraying the warlock, this makes for an entertaining film. Recommend. You will enjoy it.

not worth the time!!!!.......2006-06-27

this movie is such a bore that i sold it 2 hours after i watched it. not even lori singer was able to help this sad and unscary movie. a waste of time and money.

A Classic in its Genre .......2006-03-19

Julian Sands was a perfect choice for this role and he was even better in Warlock: the Armageddon. Surprising as I find him wooden and awful in all his other roles, but he seems to suit this character well. Richard E Grant's great acting ability shine in the movie compared to the mediocre performances around him. The story is entertaining and a classic for this genre. Some scenes especially some of the special effects have dated badly and the costume and hair choices for Lori Singer are appalling. Having said that, this is definetly a must have for any fans of 'supernatural horror' genre.

The first firestarter was a great film, but the uneeded sequel sucks. Buy this only for the first.

Nice Being Able To See Both Films.......2006-12-29

Let's, see; how to explain this? If you are a real Stephen King fan, you might not like either version of Firestarter as neither version is like the book, but I've read the book which is quite long and if everything that was in the book was put into a movie, that movie would be about six hours long. However the original 1984 version of Firestarter comes close to the book in many ways, but its problem is that the movie could have been just a little longer and filled in a bit more of the background.

The new movie does that, but it's a form of revisionist history. Things happen in the 2nd movie differently from the original movie, and from the book as well. For the purist, this is not quite a good thing. I sat through the movie saying "now that didn't happen like that," that didn't happen that way," and so on, comparing the differences and not quite enjoying the film. The problem is, the second film is not all that enjoyable as the star of this film is no longer the cute Drew Barrymore nor are the other actors up to the quality and caliber of the ones in the first movie.

Somebody who has never read the book (which is one of King's better books) or seen the first movie, might enjoy Firestarter 2, which is more a strange combination of the Scanners and X-Men movies than a Stephen King piece. As science fiction stories go, it's okay; and despite what the DVD cover says, this is a science fiction story and not anything supernatural. It's not bad, but it could have been so much better. I give it three stars. Look at this film first, then compare it with the original film; then you decide which is the better film.

Somebody needs to shoot the producer.......2006-07-10

Now I have seen my share fo good movies and read some really good books and I have to say that of all the books and all the movies, Stephen Kings orignal Firestarter has to be one of my absolute favorites. I have read this story enough to know it backwards and forward. It is a story that I have a invested a lot of time viewing and reviewing. So when I learned that there was going to be a sequel I had really high expectations.

In the sequel we are first introduced to how Charlie lost her mother. This is something that avid Firestarter followers will see as a studio seen pitch to add drama and effect to a story that is needs none. Not to give the story away for fan but it can be safe to say that the writers, and the directors didnt bother to research the book or the storyline enough to know how this happened out in the original. Had that time for the research been done it would have probably been accepted. Secondly we are introduced to a group of survivors of the original experiment. This is something that is a direct contridiction of the original book, becuase there were only 2 survivors and they married, raised a child, and then killed. Other then that there were no Lot Six survivors, in the movie. In the book however there were 2, on man that was kept in a small room on an island compound, and of course Charlie McGee.

Finally and this is what I found the most distrubing, the charater played by George C. Scott, (John Rainbird) has been re introduced in to the story, He is no longed the cold calculated killer that burned to death in the barn from the last story, now he is a scientest. Not just any scientest he is someone that is some how part of the Lot Six program. A program that was has not spawned several children that have "special" abilities.

According to the book and to the orignal movie, the reason that they wanted Charlie in the first place was because she was the only person that had any abilities as a result of the Lot 6 Experiment that didnt tax the body physically. That was why they wanted her to begin with. She was supposed to be used as a weapon. A weapon.

If you are going to re make a movie at least read the original. Case in point "Back to the Future."

Drew Barrymore is not bad at all as little Charlene "Charlie" Mcgee. She's afflicted with pyrokenesis (starting fires w/ her mind) handed down to her by her mum Vicky (Heather Lockleer) and dad Andy (David Keith), who were both injected with an experimental serum by a secret government organization called "The Shop". Now Charlie is on the run with dad, trying to escape the clutches of the nefarious shop operatives who've already killed mum! Unfortunately, an assassin named Rainbird (George C. Scott) wants Charlie for his own demented reasons. Along with Capt. Hollister (Martin Sheen), Rainbird plans on exploiting Charlie's powers, then killing her with a quick blow to the head! He's a sick one! As much as I like Drew Barrymore in this, FIRESTARTER has it's lame moments of pure cheese, like when Mum's oven mits burst into flames, whatta riot! Or when flaming mannequins (shop agents) fly through trees at Charlie's instigation during the blazing climax! Still, it's not a terrible movie, just not a classic. Then, there's FIRESTARTER 2: REKINDLED, a nearly 3 hour sequel that suffers from a bloated storyline that could have easily been squeezed into an hour! Charlie's all grown up now, and suffering from nightmares from her past, as well as that pesky burning thing. She is unaware that Rainbird (Now played by Malcolm McDowell) is alive (?!) and still infatuated with her. He's also raised up a small army of kids with various psychic abilities (sort of a bratty version of Village Of The Damned). These kids are being trained as weapons of course, and will ultimately face Charlie in an all-too-whimpy showdown. Dennis Hopper (Night Tide, Blue Velvet) is also in this as Richardson, a clairvoyant with the personality of day-old oatmeal. REKINDLED has far more smoke than fire, and seems almost endless to sit through! It's more or less a freebie tacked on to the infinitely superior original. So, grab some marshmallows and roast 'em by the TV screen! Enjoy...

Warlock is a fascinating yet frustrating CinemaScope Western, almost unique in the genre for being based on a literarily respectable novel--Oakley Hall's 1958 recasting of the Wyatt-Earp-in-Tombstone legend. As adapted by TV dramatist Robert Alan Aurthur, the tale focuses on three men: the elegant gambler/gunfighter/lawman-for-hire Blaisdell (Henry Fonda in the Earp part); his lethal partner and creepily possessive best friend Morgan (Anthony Quinn as a variation on Doc Holliday); and Johnny Gannon (Richard Widmark), a ranch cowboy more burdened with scruples than his fellow rowdies, who have made the silver-mining town of Warlock their violent playground. To reclaim their community, the townsfolk strike a bargain with the devil they don't know--Blaisdell--in hopes of being delivered from the devil they do, the cowboys and their cold-blooded boss McQuown (former MGM juve Tom Drake in the Ike Clanton role).

Fonda's and Widmark's characters evolve intriguingly; Blaisdell affords Western aficionados early hints of Fonda's badman Frank in Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West, while Widmark's Gannon reforms, becomes town deputy, and has to go up against not only his old cronies but the hired marshal. Sad to say, despite its three strong leads and a script full of shootings, sadism, and no end of betrayals, the movie keeps bogging down from too much undigested backstory, too much talk, and Edward Dmytryk's flatfooted direction. Even the redoubtable cinematographer Joe MacDonald, who so stunningly shot John Ford's Earp-in-Tombstone classic My Darling Clementine 13 years earlier, disappoints with bland, featureless lighting better suited to a TV show. Best unknown Henry Fonda and Anthony Quinn Western .......2007-03-08

I have been waiting for years for this film to finally be released on DVD format so that I could add it to my library. This Western not only has all of the elements of a great western but of a wonderful story. Gun slinging shoot outs, back shooters, bad guy trying to go good and shade of gray good guys who are real bad customers make this a well spun story. If you have never seen Henry Fonda play a tuff, no nonsense, tortured, dark character you must see this film. Anthony Quinn is brilliant as ever and to combine him with Fonda was inspired casting. Richard Widmark, and Dorothy Marlone turn in very tight performances, thou slightly stylized for the time. And Deforest Kelley as a sort of gun slinging kick about is wonderful to see before the days of his type cast role as "Bones" in the first "Startrek" series. I think that this film was never recognized because of the fate of it's producer and director Edward Dmytryk - one of the infamous "Hollywood Ten." The HUAC actually threw Dmytryk in prison for refusing to cooperate, and after several months he decided to name names. Thus marking him for the rest of his life and probably why this film is so unknown. You can rent this film I'm sure, but why bother when you will want to buy it to add it to your library. Trust me.

GENDER-BENDER IN THE OLD WEST.......2007-01-16

If you've read the other reviews, you know the story, which borrows heavily from the Life and Legend of the Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday friendship. Oakley Hall and TV dramatist Robert Alan Aurthur revamp and clean-up what could have been the best of the umpteenth fictional retellings of the Wyatt Earp/doc Holliday drama of a lost art, friendship and loyalty, were it not for the innuendo and the wonder at WHY? What is the glue that holds these two guys together, because it didn't seem to be brotherly love? Is it gambling and cover up? Is it the joy of superior skills amidst little competition at slinging lead? If not, then What?

The clues are there, even in the film. In the novel version the binding force of the friendship is a bit more transparent than in this movie, shampooed version.

If the underlying theme were exorcised, the structural elements in the hands of a John Ford, or George P. Cosmatos, or Martin Ritt, or Sam Peckenpaugh, we would have seen and understood more easily. In the hands of Peter Medak (Zorro, the Gay Blade), or Mel Brooks- (Robin Hood; Men in Tights) it would have been R-rated and Anthony Quinn's full-time job as gambler/Wyatt Earp gun slinging, team member would have been augmented by a part-time job as a hairdresser or Interior decorator.

The thinly disguised nature of The Blaisdale/Morgan relationship as homosexual, sort of cluttered ups the original idea. Whether the warp was because the writer was a homosexual sympathizer, or member, is unclear, but there are people who are unable to comprehend true brotherhood and loyalty and must muddy the water with another explanation of the bonding, or maybe they thought it would just be more novel a gossip the way it is-hard to tell.

Before the movie is too far along, one hopes that Widmark's Town sheriff can beat the Old Testament condemned Duo, not because of any prejudice against their gender-gap-unification, but because of the smarmy, scummy nature of their seeming fascistic characters otherwise. For kids or naive' adults missing the point, except for the poor lighting (too soap opera Clear and sunny) and the directorial cluelessness, it is an enjoyable six-gun, quick draw feast. For those who have eaten of the Tree of Knowledge knowing of the original premise of the tale, it's fresh-faced; old west lead slinging is a bit spoiled by that burden/baggage.
Forgetting the underlying covertness, the lighting and weak direction, not a bad adventure film. 3.5 Stars

The Colt revolver was a tool and the more you study the men who used it at a high professional level the more it becomes obvious that they were also tools, sometimes unwittingly, sometimes (according to Western films) quite the opposite... Necessary tools, necessary men in a very compressed package of American history... They have their brief moment on the stage and then it's time to take their leave, preferably with their boots on, knowing, or not knowing that they've done the job that history actually required, but that history, in fact, won't thank them for it...

Fonda--a quiet dominant personality in Westerns--puts this over perfectly in Edward Dmytryk's 'Warlock,' unpretentious Western... Here Fonda is a professional hired gun brought in specially, and most temporarily, one always feels, to calm down a town plagued by cowboys, some of them with outlaw affiliations...

Every word he says ('I'm a simple man, handy with Colts'), every calculated ploy, shows that he's marvelously clear-eyed about his situation--that today he's wanted, that tomorrow he won't be--because he's an old professional and it's all happened before...

Spruce as spry as ever, Fonda is Clay Blaidsdell, a legendary gunfighter, the ideal professional gunman with great expectations... He is hired, temporarily, by the citizens of Warlock to clean up their town from the outlaws... The movie focuses on his rise when he succeeds in removing the bad guys in a spectacular confrontation, and his fall when he is forced to face his best friend in a showdown...

Fonda brings with him his hero-worshiping right hand and conscience, the ex-killer Tom Morgan (Quinn), who challenges his one-man rule, one vindictive old girlfriend and one loving new flame... When the pair defeats the San Pedro gang, one of its members, Johnny Gannon (Widmark), stays behind and volunteers to become Blaisdell's deputy...

As an uneasy peace settles onto Warlock, the relationship between Blaisdell and Morgan deteriorates when the marshal finds romance with a local girl, Jessie Marlow (Dolores Michaels). Gannon, meanwhile, becomes involved with Lily Dollar (Dorothy Malone), who at one time had been Morgan's mistress and now hates both Blaisdell and him for killing a man she had hoped to marry...

Blond for the only time in his career, Quinn - curious and different as the complex, clubfooted gambler-gunman whose relationship with Clay, leans rather strongly toward homosexuality - made Dmytryk's multi-plotted film somewhat daring for its time... Its complicated story line, working at various levels, and its shadowy psychological innuendos, turned off critics and audiences alike, and from several corners came concern that Dmytryk had carried the 'new convention' Western too far too fast... Nevertheless "Warlock" remains a typical law and order Star Western, well written, pretty exciting, and entirely in the classic mold...

Spirited, Thoughtfully Entertaining Western.......2006-10-12

Warlock is just a great all-around Western, boasting the talents of a great director (Edward Dmytryk), great cast (Henry Fonda, Richard Widmark, Anthony Quinn, Dorothy Malone), and great writing. It has a lot more emotional content than many Westerns, even though it has plenty of action and tension.

Warlock takes its name from the town where all the action takes place. It's a town where a gang of outlaws has taken over, riding in from a nearby town to run roughshod, if not kill the lawmen who are trying to keep the peace. Desperate to restore law and order, the town leaders bring in Fonda and Quinn, a famous pair of gunmen obviously modelled after Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Fonda is the cool, collected lead, and Quinn is the hard-drinking, hot-tempered, club-footed sidekick. Fonda and Quinn's characters make a living out of going into towns like Warlock and cleaning them up. This seems like just another stop in a long line of towns they come in and cleaned up.

But several complications arise. Fonda's character meets beautiful Delores Michaels, a town leader who begins by loathing Fonda, but then her loathing turns into admiration, then love, which Fonda reciprocates. An old flame of Quinn's shows up, one who has a grudge against both Fonda and Quinn because of the death of a boyfriend at Fonda's hands. And Widmark plays a member of the terrorizing gang who decides to reform and tries to convince his younger brother, played by Frank Gorshin, to do the same.

This movie always has a lot going on, but it's not hard to follow, and it is enjoyable to see how the plot develops. Everyone performs well, and the story has both satisfying and tragic turns. Warlock is well worth a Western-lover's time.

This follow-up to Warlock boasts more sophisticated visual effects, slicker production values, and bigger (and bloodier) action, but fans of the original's dry wit and tight story may be disappointed. It's really more a rehash than a sequel. The Devil is up to his old tricks again, sending his favorite son (the title character) on a mission to recover six runes--ancient stones that will allow His Satanic Majesty to escape Hell and once again walk the Earth. Leading the forces of good are a group of modern-day druids and a pair of teenage lovers who have no idea they've been selected to save the world. There are some genuinely spooky moments, a few laughs, and some nice visual touches, but the scattershot script keeps throwing out one cool idea after another, hoping something sticks. On the other hand, if watching Julian Sands writhe on the ground spewing black blood sounds like a good time, this may be just the ticket. Gremlins star Zach Galligan has a cameo (as the boyfriend of the Warlock's mom!) --Geof Miller

Wacky Magic Fun.......2004-11-02

I really enjoyed this movie. It's goofy and the Druids vs. the Warlock history is a bit silly but overall quite enjoyable. It has better pacing than the first film and seems less disjointed even though the Warlock's search for the runestones is told in a series of little vignette's. Some of the "druid training" scenes are quite beautiful with very creative direction to attain subtle effects which nicely contrast the Warlock's macabre magic.

As I said before the story is a little silly but I liked it better than the witch-hunter sent through time story of the first film and the forgettable kids in a haunted house approach of the third.

ANTHONY HICKOX DOES IT AGAIN!.......2004-07-16

Warlock:The Armageddon is an enjoyable watch. I bought this DVD because 1.Anthony Hickox directed it. 2.Monika Schnarre has a small part in it. I hadn't seen it before when I purchased this film, but I enjoyed it. I love what Anthony Hickox did with this sequel. The special effects, a good cast. I love Paula Marshall (from 'Hellrasier 3)- what a talented and likeable actress. I got a thrill seeing Monika Schnarre again in a small part as a runway model.

I hope that anthony Hickox would make more films like this.

The creepiest thing about Casper Meets Wendy is the title characters' romance--bashful, cutie pie Casper shouldn't be prone to weaknesses of the flesh (he is, after all, a ghost). And he's entirely too childlike to take up with a witch even of Wendy's decidedly non-wicked order. Still, sparks fly in this madcap jumble of a film, and so do the sort of zippy one-liners and presto-type magic tricks that'll keep kids from 6 to 12 spellbound. The plot is paper-thin: head honcho warlock Desmond Spellman (George Hamilton) is obsessed with offing Wendy (Hilary Duff) after an oracle proclaims her powers to be on the upswing. He sends two goons to capture her at the Sunny Brite resort, where she and her haggish aunts (Teri Garr, Cathy Moriarty, and Shelley Duvall) are in hiding and where Casper and his trouble-making uncles are vacationing and causing random calamities. While Wendy and Casper hit it off, their more traditional-minded relations show off and swap insults. Nevertheless, the ghosts harbor a hush-hush respect the witches' unruliness, and it rears its head at just the right moment--when Wendy's about to be vaporized in Spellman's swirling vortex of doom. Were it not mildly fun to watch the trio of well-established older actresses suit up in witch costumes and crack wise, adults would find this film bordering on the unbearable. My 4-year old son was thrilled when "Casper Meets Wendy" arrived at our door. We had been looking for it in every store known to man since last Halloween (when he first saw it)! I'd given up hope until it dawned on me to check Amazon.com. Wish I had done it sooner, that's for sure!
The DVD came sooner than I expected, if you can believe that, was in perfect condition and was thouroghly enjoyed by my son.

Still Entertains Me.......2006-10-28

Being 16, I have lived through the first Casper and the horrid sequels. While I think that the first Casper mildly creeped me out when I was younger, and that majority of the sequels following that were horrible, I think that making Casper Meets Wendy was a great recovery for the creators of the original Casper. Bringing together well-known older actresses was a great choice, making it entertaining to see them in such whimsical roles, while Hilary Duff did a great job on one of her first acting jobs. While some of the one-liners may leave you rolling your eyes, it is a great childrens movie and will keep parents entertained as well.

"Casper Meets Wendy" is the fun-filled story of everyone's favorite friendly ghost, Casper, and his very first encounter with Wendy the good little witch! When sweet little Wendy finds herself the target of an evil warlock's scheme to stay on top of the witchcraft game, she and her nasty aunts must hideout at a sunny vacation resort. To their ghost-hating dismay, it's the same resort where Casper and his uncles are spending a relaxing vacation away from the grind of their daily scaring routine. Wendy and Casper quickly realize they are kindred spirits and become fast friends, but their relatives will have no part in it. They'll all have to learn to work together though, once the wicked Desmond Spellman's goons pinpoint their location.

Fresh off the heels of "Casper: A Spirited Beginning," family-friendly director Sean McNamara does himself one better in his second Casper outing, this time going for a stellar cast and all-out wackiness! The result should thrill the younger set, though it may prove too goofy for teens and adults who don't have a softer side for kids' stuff. Luckily, I'm a cartoon and family film lover, and, being an addict of the annual Halloween specials I grew up with, this direct to video offering is a real treat. Sure, it's loaded with moments that make you glad you're watching it alone, or wish that you were, there are bad jokes and bad acting to spare, but it also takes you back to the fun you had in your childhood with programs like "The Worst Witch" and "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" (AKA "The Night Dracula Saved the World"). The outlandish costumes and low-budget effects scream Halloween special, and how can you go wrong with George Hamilton evoking memories of "Love At First Bite" alongside the likes of Shelley Duvall, Teri Garr, Cathy Moriarty, Pauly Shore, Richard Moll, and Vincent Schiavelli. And, let's not forget my favorite person on the planet, Hilary Duff, in her first starring role! Yes, this is back before Lizzie McGuire, folks. The current girl of my dreams is cute as a button here in her early days as Wendy the good little witch!

The truth is, this film is not for everyone. It's direct to video quality in every way, but it's direct to video that works. How so? Well, yes, there's a high cheeze factor, and even my dreamgirl Hilary clearly shows her lack of experience at acting during the first half of the film (she surprisingly improves greatly partway through). True, some of the lines that are meant as jokes just don't seem to make sense or seem to be in the wrong context, or are utterly ridiculous to an annoying point. Then, you have Pauly Shore, who hardly seems to take his role in the film seriously. Still, what makes this film acceptable and entertaining, and makes all of its flaws acceptable too, is the fact that it is intended to be a kooky kids film. It's all about being silly, and it does its job well, while still pulling off the cutesy, feel-good friendship moments too. Now, if you sit down to watch "Casper Meets Wendy" expecting to view something along the lines of the Steven Spielberg big budget theatrical Casper film, then you're going to be disappointed.
