"Give me what I want and I'll go away," demands the black-eyed, stocking-capped stranger Linoge (Colm Feore), who appears in a quiet island community on the verge of the worst storm in decades and brutally bludgeons an old lady to death. Tim Daly, the town sheriff and voice of reason and moral strength, locks up the quiet madman, but the deaths pile up as Linoge acts them out from his cell like a murderous mime pulling psychic strings. Stephen King, whose original teleplay is his best work for the screen since The Stand, transforms the sleepy burg into a Peyton Place of guilty secrets and criminal activity ripped from under a blanket of small town normality while the white-out of the snowstorm completely cuts them off from civilization. Director Craig R. Baxley nicely maintains an icy tension while the waiting game goes on, perhaps a little too long, before Linoge finally reveals "what he wants" and the drama turns into a struggle for man's soul in miniature. The more ambitious special effects and set pieces sometimes disappoint but are more than made up for in King's knack for turning the mundane into the macabre (the children's song "I'm a Little Teapot" has never sounded more sinister) and a few brilliantly realized sequences, the best of which occurs when townspeople are literally yanked out of existence while watching the storm. Storm of the Century is one of the most successful translations of King's brand of horror to the screen. --Sean Axmaker

2 out of 5 stars Like 99% of Stephen Kings movies-a waste of time!.......2007-07-18

The first half of this movie is fairly interesting, and does keep you wondering what is going on. But at the end as with most of Mr. King;s movies it all falls apart, and leaves you angry that you invested so much time in watching this garbage. Master of Horror? I think not. This movie just didn't make much sense to me.

5 out of 5 stars The Choice Is Ours.......2007-07-02

Only one word can describe this film, DEEP!! This is an extremely spiritual movie. I enjoyed every minute. This movie proves that we all ultimately choose our path in this life. Outcomes and all. It teaches us about free will and the power that we have inside to beat any and all demons. Too many of us run to church on Sunday, screamin' HALLELUJAH!! and are living the most trifling lives. The people on this island were full of herendous sins. They had verbal faith, but not spiritual faith on a soul level. When the time came for their faith to take action and pull together as a unit in God's name, they all cowered. All except one, but that one could not do it alone. Anything in this world, whether good or bad, we must first consent to the allowance of anything to happen to us and/or through us. Nothing happens without God's permission. If we are part of THE ONE TRUE SOURCE, that means that God lives within us and we in God. We give the okay for things to happen. This is why free will is always a daily challenge. The knowledge of Spirit is not enough. Our belief(s) is what will sustain and ultimately save us. The Demon in this movie knew this. He knew these folks were simple/take the Bible literally morons and that their "faith" was none. For those whom have not seen this movie, I will not spoil the ending, but remember this: A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And even the strongest link cannot hold the entire chain together. Nothing is stronger than the power of the Almighty. Whatever that means to each of us. Ponder upon the many spiritual lessons in this movie. Thank you Stephen King.

1 out of 5 stars One of the most disappointing and dragging movies.......2007-06-26

The first 30 minutes aroused my curiosity. After that it moved at such a slow pace that I felt asleep at least twice. I also lost my interest. There's no suspense or horror in the remaining part.

Pet Sematary and Desperation are much more suspenseful and scarier.

3 out of 5 stars Just didn't draw me in, predictable even for Steven King, and way to long. .......2007-05-31

The biggest problem I had with this movie is that it was so long. I knew exactly how it was going to within the first hour, why did it go on for almost 3 more. And, its the same King theme, a Demon/devil guy comes to town, plays people off of eachother, and leaves, usually changing the town forever from a Good/wholesome place to something different, something evil (eg Needful things, the Stand, deperation,). In this case, It came for "what it wants". Come on, you can't tell me you didn't figure out it was the Sherrifs kid...lets mark this character with AN ANGEL'S SADDLE on his nose, and a Demon comes to town...Yeah, tell me who he's after. Sorry Mr. King, I know you wrote this one for TV specifically, then came out with the script as a story, but this is not a high point. But, I do like many of his books, and even some of his more recent short story collections. But this one just dind't work for me. Worth a viewing, but no huge loss if you don't.

Asian American director Ang Lee sums up America in the early 1970s by focusing on the arrival of the sexual revolution in the 'burbs. Isolationism within a family, consumerism, and selfishness are personified by a cast that captures the self-obsession within two New England families. As the children struggle awkwardly with adolescence, their parents stumble through sexual experimentation. In the days of Watergate and Vietnam, society is breaking boundaries and ignoring convention. Following suit, these families are eschewing polite barriers and social taboos, with disastrous results. The "ice storm" of the title refers not only to a natural phenomenon but is a (rather heavy-handed) metaphor for a pervasive emotional temperament. The entire cast delivers textured, finely nuanced performances. This movie lingers in the psyche not only for the scope of the tragedy at its conclusion, but for Lee's often humorous and stingingly accurate assessment of pop culture. Based on Rick Moody's novel, this won the best-screenplay award at Cannes in 1997. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Description

When a self-centered husband's relationship with his wife and mistress grow cold, it takes a wife-swapping "key party" and a freak ice storm to clear the air and change their lives forever. Director Ang Lee offers a compelling look at a controversial era.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A good movie but depressing.......2006-08-01

All the people in it are upper middle class white people. They seem to me to be bored. Their kids seem to want to either lash out (like Christina Ricci character Wendy) or withdrawal like Mikey (Elijah Wood). The adults seemed bored with life and was looking for excitement like "key parties" (throwing car keys into a fish bowl where women pick them out. A form of "Swinging").

It stuck me as terribly sad. Perhaps our way of life in Western civilization brings about evil. Too comfortable for our own good. Even in the poor parts of our country, we have it good compared to just a couple of hundred years ago. Yet human nature has this inbred part of us that says "more". Maybe it's our curse as well as our gift. To keep striving for more even if we have enough.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Movie.......2006-07-22

Before I add my own comments to this review, I first want to quote a review I read in some book for this film:

"This film is based on Rick Moody's novel about Thanksgiving 1973 in a middle-class New England family, with adolescent children fumbling with puberty while their parents flounder in the backwash of the sexual revolution. Though expertly made and well acted, the film's characters are uptight and repellent, and the story is bleak and oversymbolic. More to be admired than enjoyed."

I read this "review" before seeing the movie and after watching it I can't help but think to myself...What was that guy smoking? "The Ice Storm" is directed by Oscar winning director Ang Lee (Best Director, 'Brokeback Mountain') and is just as good, if not better, than the movie he took home his Oscar for. This movie is no less than a masterpiece; It's got amazing performances, it has a very "American Beauty" feel to it. To say this film is more to be admired than enjoyed is idiotic. The movie stars Kevin Kline as Ben Hood, the father of a family all dealing with their own set of problems.
Son Paul Hood (Tobey Maguire) has fallen in love with a beautiful girl named Libbets Casey (Katie Holmes), whom his friend (David Krumholtz, TV's "Numbers") has already started to move in on. Daughter Wendy (Christina Ricci) is a girl smack dab in the middle of that pubescent age where nothing is really off limits. His wife Elena (Joan Allen) is quiet and reserved longing for something more than she's getting in her marriage, which is mostly because Ben himself is having an affair with his neighbor Janey (Sigourney Weaver) who has also grown bored with Ben. In the course of one night, during a freak ice storm, all their lives will change forever. For some reason, two movies came to mind while watching this. American Beauty and Me & You & Everyone We Know. All three films have a strange quirkiness to them, but also manage to have the same dramatic impact. If you liked those two films, you should like this. This is a very entertaining film, very well made film that is one of Ang Lee's finest hours.

5 out of 5 stars crackling humor and sad ending makes a great film.......2006-06-09

after seeing brokeback mountain, i decided to see more of ang lee's films and came upon this gem that perfectly shows the same type of sad melencholy used in brokeback. the film takes place in the 1970's and centers around two family's the hoods (consisting of kline, allen, ricci, and mcguire) and the carvers (consisting of weaver, wood, and that one kid) who go through many events that boil together one night during an ice storm. the husband of the hoods is having an affair with weavers character, the kids are exploring sex and drugs, and allens character goes from shop-lifting to cheating on her husband too. the film plays out in two parts, the first hour or so is mainly a comedy while the last hour plays like a drama that leads to a very sad ending. truly a great ang lee film, must check it out if you loved brokeback.

3 out of 5 stars "OH MY GOD! THEY KILLED KENNY!!".......2006-04-18

The Ice Storm might make a good sentimental date flick, a tear jerker that could put the average guy in good standing with his lady, as it creates a nice facade of sensitivity with the added bonus of placing the manly-man in great position to comfort his weeping woman, but as a work of cinematic art, which is what it pretentiously tries to be, it has some very major flaws.
The number one thing that a film maker has to avoid in dramatic cinema is causing a laugh riot at an inappropriate time, and most especially if that moment just happens to be the most critical scene in the whole movie, unfortunately, Ang Lee placed an image on the screen that would of worked far better in a South Park episode then as the peak moment of sadness in a tragic drama.
To explain; As the film neared this critical zenith of sadness, the adults in the story were all involved in a key party, a swingers game in which all the men place their car keys in a punch bowl as the wemen line up and one by one fish out a set of keys without looking, they then have to go home with the random owner of the keys they drew from the bowl. Meanwhile, Elijah Wood, who is playing the dejected teenage son of one of the sinful parents, is outside in the dark night playing in an ice storm. First he stupidly risks his neck by jumping up and down on a super slick ice incrusted diving board over the deep end of an empty swiming pool. Like many dumbed down highly manimpulated moralistic tales, Elijah Wood's tempting of fate and surviving is mearly the forshadowing, and prolonging of the unavoidable, his immanent death is around the corner, it is being milked all too odviously to increase the dramatic tension, and impose further sadness apon the audience.
Next he is seen sliding on his rump down the black ice of a curvy road, an image that already threatens to give a dark soul like mine an uncontrollable case of the giggles. He then stops to stare in awe at a crackling storm damaged electricle wire, while sitting on the metal guard rail of this frozen empty curve, only to watch as the wire snaps, and angrily slithers across the icy street to zap the metal guard rail with the necessary voltage to end his bodily functions.
It is bad enough to try to subject a particular emotion on an audience with such blatant plot devices, and absurdly ridiculous turn of events, but to top it off with an image of a face down body cloaked in a little red hoody, as it inces its way down an icy road is simply too much to take.
When I saw this movie in the theatre back in 1997, this image in conjunction with the overtly manipulated, force fed tone of pathos, caused me to double over in my seat with explosive laughter, so much so, that till this day, I am extremely greatful that I was'nt drinking anything, or holding any sharp objects in my hands at the time. When the film ended I became acutely aware of the fellow exiting movie patrons mean mugging me on the way out. The person I shared this cinematic experience with took full advantage of my captivated audience by loudly asking me what I had learned from the Ice Storm.
"Well what I've learned," I loudly replied." is that I better not get any wild ideas about sexing up my neighbors wife, because God will become angry and kill my first born male child, and since I don't have any children, he will be forced to kill my poor dog and send him sliding down the road in his little red parka."
In conclusion, I gave this movie 3 stars because it is very visually appealing, and has the best "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours." scene ever put on film between Christina Ricci and a chubby boy, but outside of that I can only recommend renting this film, as it is too flawed in its story telling, and far too moralistic to warrant ownership.

5 out of 5 stars This is one of the best films I have ever seen........2006-04-03

Really, it is. It may be too dark and too slow for some. It is not a happy film, and it may depress you terribly. It did depress me.

This is a film about alienation, and it is devastatingly accurate. If you dare watch it, take note of all the conversations. In nearly every scene one character tries to reach out to another character, to try to tell them something intimate or important. In every scene except one they are brushed aside or ignored. The only scene where two characters connect and actually communicate, they talk in code, not directly.

Yes it is beautifully shot and acted. It may well accurately evoke America of the 70s, I wouldn't know I wasn't there. A lot of people are doing squalid, illegal or kinky things in the movie. But to focus on these things alone seems to me to miss the real point of the film. I think it is alienation that drives the aberrant behaviour of these people, not the place or the period.

I don't think the film is meant to depict the failings of any period. I don't think there is any judgement or solution offered. It is simply a stark portrayal of alienation.

I haven't read the book, I would like to. Perhaps others who suggest the setting is more important than I do have their perceptions coloured by having read it. Before reading it I will go out on a limb and suggest the storyline and the setting are just a vehicle for this depiction of alienation.

This film is a disturbing masterpiece which may make you reconsider your own life relationships.

Bad dude (Hooks) on the trail of the usual thugs and a childhood friend gone bad(Winfield). Lots of action especially in the pool hall, when Chalky washes Mr Big away in the shoot-out.

4 out of 5 stars An enjoyable turkey.......2007-04-18

It's been interesting reading comments treating this as a serious film when really it's one of those films that moves into the 'so bad it's good' genre. I remember 25 years ago laughing myself sick watching it on late-night television. I subsequently found it and some of the outrageous dialogue highlighted in one of those '50 worst movies of all time" type books. "Chicken George is looking for you" - "You tell Chicken George to kiss my sweet black a--." Crazy hair, crazy clothes, crazy performances, it's still good fun and a nice bit of early 70s kitsch. And having John Walton senior as one of the gangsters is one of those classic mis-castings.

Brought back memories from back in the day. Excellent quality! I had not seen this movie since I was kid sneaking into the movie house in Baldwin Hills. I refer this movie to all who wants a ride down memory lane.

The movie was good. Another blaxploitation film to add to your 1970's collection.

Anyone that is a serious fan of this genre, or is as fasinated with the 70's as I am should jump on purchasing this film without hesitation. I had seen Robert Hooks in smaller roles such as his part in Passenger 57. This man in my opinion stepped into the skin of this character. I read where someone posted that they where disappointed with the score because it wasn't the original, but it sounded great to me. I've never heard the first soundtrack but im hard to satisfy; and I liked it. A must have !!! ..... Mr.T: Where you want it at mutha?!

I first saw this movie on the Sci-Fi Channel when they were showing 'marathon' of movies featuring dragons. The subject of review says it all 'Cheesy yet enjoyable'. There are parts that are unintentionally funny: Silas' groomed hair, Princess' attire (lingerie and black pants), Girl who yells "Fire!" when operating the catapult (even though she is the one pulling the device). The movie does has its own charm and it is enjoyable (if you can take it for what it's worth -- Sci-Fi Weekend Movie).

I liked the movie so much that I bought from Amazon. Recommended if you like these kind of movies. =)

2 out of 5 stars Ever seen a made at home movie? Nows your chance! .......2006-03-30

... Now how do you start a review of this kind of movie. Was it a movie? When all of a DOZEN towns people at the gate are waving farewell and sending the would be heros into battle against the (wonderfully computer rendered)dragons doesn't that just somehow seem sad. We six Heros will die so that the dragons won't eat the rest of you! Thats right all 11 of...oh Im sorry didn't see you there, ALL TWELVE of you. I especially like how in this town of twelve+heros there happens to be a traveling deadly martial arts guy, a beautiful girl with a huge crossbow on wheels,(talk about envy) and the robin hood guy, except he's actually from outside the town. So I'm going to stop now before I cry... Yes it was that bad. But as always watch it for the Heck of it and try not to be upset about time lost in a vigilant attempt to make sense out of the dragon storm movie thing..experience thing.

5 out of 5 stars Well-Done Fun!.......2006-01-17

This movie is just a bit of fun! The acting, directing and production values are very good. Maxwell Caulfield makes an excellent reluctant hero and John Rhys Davies injects humor into his villanous role. The medieval setting is more convincing and less glamorous than in many movies I've seen. The script is pretty good, as dragon eggs land like comets on the earth, but we aren't sure at first (and neither are the characters) what they are. Even though the movie is not a bloodfest, it is too scary for children. The dragons do kill people, there is a fair amount of suspense, and the dragons are frightening.

1 out of 5 stars It just doesn't get any worse than this!.......2005-11-28

Oh my, this movie was God-awful. It has the feel throughout of a group of first time actors playing medieval dress-up and dragons for the camera. The special effects consist of computer-generated dragons and an extreme overuse of people's backs getting set on fire... that's pretty much it. The plot is also very weak and so typical. The fighting scenes are horribly choreographed and the acting is so bad that it looks like first time efforts for every actor except for the two kings and Theldag. Picture Ben Stiller with a slight beard, medieval clothes, and a wig. That's the hero in this calamity of a movie. There's also the typical trite and very poor attempt at humor spattered throughout also. This is definitely a low budget title. It's also in 4:3 full screen only. I consider this movie purchase one of the worst I have ever made, but it was cheap. You get what you pay for.

Description

Chaka Khan has been singing for 35 years. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award singer began her career in the early 1970's with the pre-imminent funk group Rufus. A beautiful and dynamic vocalist, Chaka was raised on Chicago's South Side. She began her career as a solo artist interestingly, singing jazz. Her fame however, came with contemporary solo funk hits like "I Feel For You" and the classic "I'm Every Woman," which she successfully recorded 10 years before Whitney Houston's cover version.

This 1992 live performance at New York's famed jazz club The Blue Note, finds Chaka in the musical environment that she has always felt most creative. In great voice and surrounded by five great jazzmen, she performs a rare catalog of songs closely associated with jazz. Several of whichcannot be found on her recordings. She sings the Ellington/Strayhorn"Take The `A' Train," Rodgers and Hart's "My Funny Valentine," plus "Summertime" and "I Loves You Porgy" from Gershwin's folk opera "Porgy and Bess."

This is a rare and exciting live performance, never seen before. And the combination of her definitive vocal talent, seen live, offers a great "ENCORE" concert performance.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Work, Miss Chaka!.......2007-04-04

You won't hear "Through the Fire" or "Jamaica Funk" here; this is Chaka trying out jazz standards. Hey, if Queen Latifah can do it, then why can't Miss Chaka? With her wails and high notes, this should be enjoyable for anyone who likes her music. She performs "My Funny Valentine," but it sounds nothing like it did on the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack. You know how performers sound more raw and unpolished when they perform on "SNL", rather than when one hears their song on the radio? This had a raw sound that may disappoint some, but should be expected of a live, and experimental, performance. Chaka is thick and motherly as ever. Her hair, or possibly wig, was big as a planet. My only problem is that her set may be too short. Still, when Erasure re-made Abba songs, they stuck to just a few. Perhaps Chaka was following the same idea. I think I'll always be horrified that she sang at a National Republican Convention, but Miss Chaka's talent cannot be denied.

2 out of 5 stars A dissapointment from a great singer.......2006-04-01

I have listened to this DVD performance quite a few times before i decided to write this review. Ms Khan is no doubt one of the Divas of contemporary music--and that is why I am dissapointed that she allowed this DVD to be relesaed. The audio and video engineering is a shambles and almost suggests that this production was slapped together on the cheap. The flagship tracks (My Funny Valentine and Porgy) pale in comparison to the same versions on the Live at BET concert and the backup group here are no match for the studio group that was on the BET DVD. Admittedly Ms Khan seems to be enjoying herself more here but is seriously let down by some shoddy audio and lighting engineering. Just one more thing, I just wish producers would spend a little more time and care and give the public a little more for their money e.g. a simple thing such as liner notes. They do play their part in enhancing the overall customer experience. Sorry, but I think I will be giving my BET DVD more playing time than this one.

5 out of 5 stars The Joy of Chaka singing Jazz!.......2006-01-18

First, like the first two reviews the sound could've been remixed better, but put that aside and you have a great performance from Chaka singing Jazz, Chaka is in great voice and this is a Happy performance from her! What i love about this performance is you get to hear Chaka use her improvisational skills, which I wish she could do more of.

5 out of 5 stars I'm bias, but really.......this is a good dvd.......2005-11-16

I love Chaka and I have written many favorable reviews for her. I am bias, but I try to be honest. This dvd was surprisingly good, real good. Chaka's energy is on full blast and she is engaging. I think Chaka has suffered from self esteem issues, but her performance on this dvd is of a confident, brillant artist that is having a lot of fun and wants you (the audience) to join in the merriment. Chaka fans must have this, but those who are not fully aware of her talents should enjoy this performance.

4 out of 5 stars Chaka Vocalizing With Energy & Flair! .......2005-09-02

I just finished watching Chaka in all of her glory on the NEWLY RELEASED '20th Century Great Women Singers' DVD, and it is a must have for your collection. 1st of all, Chaka was in great (and I mean GREAT!) voice during this set (recorded in 1992), and unlike the B.E.T. show, Chaka was no ways tired! She was vibrant, and her voice sparkled. Chaka had some great vocal moments on the B.E.T. show, but she wasn't in good spirits. It was also a revelation seeing Chaka enjoy herself & to interact with the Blue Note audience on this new DVD. Her band was on point as well, but the only name I recognized was Gary Haase, who threw down on the acoustic bass.

After one viewing, I can't say which song was my favorite, but 'My Funny Valentine' (with a new arrangement), 'Carrie', 'Summertime', and 'Alfie' are definitely impressive in illustrating the FULL SPECTRUM of Chaka's instrument. I rate this DVD slightly higher than the BET set because Chaka has so much energy here, BUT this new DVD was mastered in 'mono', and that's the only beef I have. Chaka also looked much better on this new DVD, but I lost count on how many times she played with all of that hair!! Oh, you have to check out Chaka's banter while introducing 'Alfie'. She refers to Dionne Warwick as "that Psychic Bit**", and started laughing!! It was all in love though, and Chaka admitted her mouth was trouble!! PRICELESS!!!

In the end, I give the new Chaka Khan DVD 4 stars, and the 'mono' sound cost it a few points! 5.1 Coded DVDs (with surround sound') should be the standard by now. My verdict..a must for 'Chakaholics', and those who wanted more from Chaka's 'B.E.T. On Jazz' DVD.

Peace, SD
(from 'Chaka's world')

3 out of 5 stars Cool!.......2006-03-05

I own this movie and bought it because I'm a snake lover and will watch any movie or program with snakes in it! This movie was good. It's about a small town that gets invaded by very deadly genetically altered snakes. Once bitten, the victims die very quickly. Things get so bad that the army is sent to quarantine both the surviving victims and the snakes themselves. With the virus spreading so quickly, the race is on to save lives. Good suspense film. Cool snakes. A good movie to watch even though rated PG-13 and not being a horror movie. Good movie for snake lovers to watch also. I'd recommend renting this film if you haven't seen it yet. It's worth it.

2 out of 5 stars Outbreak + Snakephobia = Venomous.......2004-08-07

This is an interesting film about an outbreak of a deadly virus in the same town that Invasion of the Body Snatchers is supposed to take place in. As our hero follows the clues he discovers the poisonous snakes are the villains. As the town is quarantined and about to be nuked by the presidents orders, Treat Williams must act fast to find a way to stop the mayhem that's going down. There's a nice commentary on the DVD, which helps explain various things. It's a nice effort.

5 out of 5 stars Its Contagious !!!.......2004-04-12

I love this movie !!!! There are no flaws !!! It great !!!! I recommend it !!! If you dont watch it, I'll put snakes in your bed !!! So watch it already !!!
That is all .....

4 out of 5 stars Venomous.......2004-03-09

When you look at this DVD you may think that this is going to be one of those movies where there's a giant mutated snake that eats people. If you do, you're wrong. This is what you can call a "Realistic" movie. It is about when some rattlesnakes in a laboratory/workshop are left alive when two people blow the building up. The snakes make a den in the ground and there are small earthquakes from time to time so the snakes are forced to come to the surface. When they get there, one snake bites a farmer and he dies in the hospital. All the snakes start biting everyone in Sana Mira, California and they wipe out almost the entire population. One of the nurses claim in her studies that the desease is echoeli. It was sad w hen the dog and the little kitten and the elderly couple get killed. To me, it felt like the movie was way too short. There could have been more to the story. I'd like to see waht happens next if they come out with a Venomous 2. This movie is almost like a documentary. To my surprise there wasn't any gore. Otherwise, this movie is a pretty good scifi movie.

3 out of 5 stars MIS-TREATED.......2003-12-24

The career of Treat Williams has certainly been a circular one. After a brilliant start in the awesome "Prince of the City" and "Hair," this fine actor has gone from real bombs to mediocre material like "Venomous." Williams plays a loveably crusty middle-aged town doctor who is plunged into terror when a strange virus overtakes his small town. His estranged wife (Mary Page Keller) is a viral specialist in Washington and he is forced to bring her in as an assistant. The virus is caused by the bite of genetically mutated rattlesnakes, who escaped during a terrorist attack in 1990; of course the government wants their blunder kept secret. So the nasty government (under the auspices of the delightfully cool Tony Denison) decides to get rid of the town. There is some reasonably good suspense and the acting is above average. Hannes Jaeneke has a nice turn as Williams' studly assistant, who gets shot and we don't see any evidence of the shot in the following scene, but the bandage grows in the next two times we see him. It's directed by the prolific pseudonymned Fred Olen Ray (this time he's Ed Howard). It's not a bad movie, per se, just average and mildly entertaining.

But the music is still great. I wish there were other videos also. He had so many great hits, I'm sure a few more videos would have made me give this a 4. My absolute favorite is "Standing on the Top". It features the Temptations with Eddie Kendricks, Dennis Edwards and David Ruffin! They still had incredible steps, and it's a great song. You can see from the videos how Rick got his snaggle tooth fixed and when he went blonde! (Bad idea) But once again - the music is great. It's good for a few viewings, but it ends too soon. You'd be better off with his 2-disc CD set which includes "Cold Blooded", "Fire & Desire", "Hard to Get", etc.

5 out of 5 stars "Slicked" Rick........2006-07-08

Rick James was always a wild child in the days of funk. (Vidoes for: Mary Jane, Bustin' Out, Fire and Desire, Super Freak, etc. are just a few examples of his musical persona.) Though his music speaks for itself, the Punk-Funk King was as flamboyant an entertainer as they came. This "collection" will most certainly wet the appetite of his legions of fans, but it's time Motown (and other labels) come up with a more in-depth video collection. It's time the Super Freak was honored, not only for his sound, but for his visual creativity. Someone PLEASE take the initiative and release a Greatest Video Hits package (about 15 - 20 should do) of this legendary performer. Long Live The King!!

2 out of 5 stars Stephen King Collector Set.......2003-04-09

I just recently bought this DVD mainly for Rose Red and Storm of the Century. Two of King's newer Made for TV mini-series. These are definately two of his best and most watched series.

I only gave this product a 2 because the Dead Zone and Tommyknockers just don't deliver. Don't get me wrong, I love USA's Dead Zone series but this is only the pilot epsiode. I'd rather buy the complete first season. The glimpse of 2nd season special feature was only about 3 minutes long and didn't give any good details.

Then the Tommyknocker fiasco. I don't know about anyone else but I had problems with my copy. The sound and audio does not match on screen. You see the actors talking but you have to wait a half second to a full second before their lips move. Pretty bad. And of course I couldn't exchange it for another copy since I had already taken it out of the plastic. What a bummer.

Other than that, Rose Red and Storm of the Century are worth buying this. Give me what I want and I'll go away. hahaha. LEGION

This collection of Stephen King videos has kept me hooked for hours in front of the TV.

OF the four series that this collection contains, "Storm of the century"( 2 DVDs) and "Red Rose" ( 2 DVDs) somehow overshadows the other 2. With these 4 in the collection along with "Shinning", you can have a great collection of scarry and out of the world videos. Moreover buying these 4 together in this collection is cheaper for my wallet too :-)
