Amazon.com essential video
This simply irresistible first feature from the Muppets has Kermit the frog going from the swamps to Hollywood to be a star. As he travels and picks up his usual friends (Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear), Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) is in pursuit, looking for Kermit to be the spokesman for his frog-leg cuisine. A loose rendition of The Wizard of Oz, the film incorporates the same cagey humor as their breakout syndicated TV series The Muppet Show. This is one of the few times that a human cast (notably Steve Martin, Orson Welles, and Carol Kane) are integrated seamlessly with nonhumans. Worth noting is Paul Williams's score, which includes the Oscar-nominated "The Rainbow Connection." Williams's music, much like Howard Ashman's work on The Little Mermaid and other Disney films, provides more than atmosphere; there's a degree of magic here. Williams did not work on the future Muppet films until A Muppet Christmas Carol. His contributions made these films the best of the Muppet series. --Doug Thomas

Jim Henson vaulted Kermit, the famous floppy-armed frog, and his Muppet pals to the big screen with this charming 1979 musical adventure. Like the TV show that inspired it, Henson and director James Frawley playfully acknowledge movie clichés and conventions and allow the characters to address the camera in asides, like a Hope and Crosby road film for the 1980s. The ambitious singing frog decides to leave his swamp and conquer Hollywood, gathering a group of friends along the way (Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and more) and bumping into oodles of guest stars making tongue-in-cheek cameos (my favorite is the tip-of-the-hat appearance by Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy). Meanwhile, despicable fast-food king Charles Durning pursues Kermit, hoping to make him the spokesfrog for his Frogs-Legs restaurant franchise. Austin Pendleton costars as Durning's sad sack henchman while guest stars include James Coburn, Dom DeLuise, Madeleine Kahn, Steve Martin, Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Carol Kane, Cloris Leachman, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Telly Savalas, Elliot Gould, Orson Welles, and Big Bird. Paul Williams penned the bouncy, song-filled score. You'll believe a frog can sing! --Sean Axmaker
Description
They're irreverent, irrepressible, and downright irresistible. They're the Muppets! -- starring in their first full-length movie. See how their meteoric rise to fame and fortune began: with a rainbow, a song . . . and a Frog. After a fateful meeting with a big-time talent agent, Kermit the Frog heads for Hollywood dreaming of showbiz. Along the way, Fozzie Bear, the Great Gonzo, and the dazzling Miss Piggy join him in hopes of becoming film stars too. But all bets are off when Kermit falls into the clutches of Doc Hopper (Charles Durning), a fast-food mogul seeking to promote his French-fried frog-leg franchise! Featuring Oscar(R)-nominated music (1980, Best Original Song "The Rainbow Connection," Best Original Score) and side-splitting appearances by some of the biggest names on the silver screen -- including Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Orson Welles, and more! --this fully restored and remastered 50th Anniversary Edition of THE MUPPET MOVIE is a critically acclaimed comedy classic your family will treasure for all time. Childhood favorite........2007-07-31
The Muppet Movie is still the best and most enduring of the Muppet films. I remember watching this movie over and over again as a child and The Muppet Movie still holds up. How can you not love Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo. Special cameos from Milton Berle, Steve Martin and many more. The Muppet Movie is one to add to any media collection, if you have children or still act like one then buy this today. Happy Viewing!
Blast from the Past.......2007-07-28
Growing up in the 1970's, I loved all things Muppet. This was and is such a great movie, with the added bonus of really great music. I got it for my husband, also a 70's kid and movie fan, for Father's Day. It was loads of fun watching it with him and the kids. He was laughing harder than anyone and even remembers a lot of the lines (freak).
It's a heartwarming movie, another great addition to any movie collection.
"Life's like a movie, write your own ending."
The Muppet Movie, the best ever!.......2007-07-23
I really enjoy watching the first real movie the Muppets made.
I love the songs! I love the Muppet actors! I love the bit part star actors!
Ahhhhh Kermie!.......2007-07-06
What can I say? I loved this movie when it came out when I was a kid and I still do! My heart has always belonged to Kermit! I hadn't watched this movie for at least 20 years, so when it arrived I took it right out of the box and watched it. I was pleased to see that it still held up well. The songs were all still very singable and the humor was just what I remembered. And Kermit is just as wonderful as he ever was!
Brings back fond memories.......2007-02-12
Ah, something my children and I can watch together and not drive me insane.
This is the original muppet movie from 1979. I remember seeing it in the theater as a child. My kids like the singing, but get bored with the dialouge. But they are young (18 mo. & 32 mo.), so I am not suprised. I enjoy seeing all the big stars and comedians who took bit parts in this movie.
The only thing I don't like...most kids films with music/singing will have a bonus feature of the music scenes. It's a nice way to see the kids' favorite parts and only takes a few minutes if they want "just one more" show, song, story, etc. This DVD doesn't contain a music scene bonus feature.
Definately worth the money if you are a child from the 70s raising children today.

couldn't live without it.......2007-07-11
My child has loved this video from 3 months old. I am a work at home mom and this video is a life saver. He loves all the songs and his face just beams when little Jay the Kangaroo comes on. It really makes him happy so I don't feel guilty about leaving him in front of the television.
Mommy & Me.......2007-03-14
This DVD is almost the same thing as the other mommy and me.
Same songs and some actors with few changes...But it is good as
It was the other one.
#1 movie for my son!.......2006-03-15
My 18mo old absolutely loves the mommy and me dvd's that are out. Besides the wiggles, this is the only thing he will watch. Just from watching this dvd he learns how to do certain things such as jumping, shaking hands, and playing peekaboo! More videos like this should be out on the market.
Otra vez estaba muy triste con el parte en español. English review below on mainly the Spanish part from someone bilingual........2006-02-03
For people who think that those who speak Spanish can sing along with the words they are wrong. The Spanish words are all in a different form of future etc. in the subtitles verses the verbal form whether in songs or spoken. It is like they paid two different people to translate the same video. One for the verbal and the other for the lyrics, and then stuck them together without checking that they are the same. Same meaning is different than same words especially if you are trying to sing along. I don't understand why anyone would allow their product to be marketed in this way. In English the words come across in karaoke style with the word they are on highlighted. I assumed that the subtitles would be the same with maybe the option of the highlighted word taken away, which is NOT the case.
My daughter loves these CD's!.......2005-11-23
My daughter loves both the first Mommy & Me and Mommy & Me More. We can't go through a day without watching one of them. The segments in between are a bit goofy, but the songs are fun and it gets my girl up and moving. When I first tried these on her around 14 months, she could care less, but now at 2 years, she loves them!

Excellent!.......2007-08-20
This was given to us as a gift and my kids love it! I would definitely recommend this (18 mo+).
Great DVD for Babies.......2007-06-14
I love this DVD for one thing more than anything else...it got my son to saying "mommy":)) He was saying "mama" but after watching this DVD a couple times he started calling me mommy and never stopped. He's almost three now and he still watches this DVD from time to time. He knows all the songs and all the actions and in the car we're able to sing the songs because he has memorized them. It's a break from all the "character" shows out there for kids. This is a Classic!
Great video for interacting with your child.......2007-04-06
I am a working parent of a 2 year old toddler. Unfortunately, many times when I get home I really just want to relax and put my feet up - and not interact with my daughter. This video is fantastic for getting us both in the mood to enjoy each other and have a good time. Most videos for kids are not very interactive and fortunately this one is based on being involved in the activities. The songs are great and well known. My daughter LOVES this video and asks me almost every day to play it in the DVD player. I highly recommend this video for everyone, especially working parents trying to find new ways to have fun with their little ones.
Suggest you try Bright Bubs for your baby instead.......2007-03-12
i just watched mommy & me and if you have a baby i strongly recommend you try bright bubs DVDs instead. the bright bubs dvds are made for babies first year. it is a fun lively sessions of singing finger play massaging with mummies and babies . the babies in the dvds are all under one year , and the music is carefully selected and played for this age group. mommy and me songs are a bit noisy for my baby's fine and sensitive hearing
please go to the webiste [...] and read about their approach how to incorporate music in baby's development . most of the songs in the session are really short ( we all know our babies attention span ) , incorporating exercises , vestibular movements , tactile and auditory stimulation while siniging , explaining to you why and how every song can help baby's development.
i just cannot recommend them enough for very young babies . and no they are not similar to the mummy and me dvds
also the bright bubs sessions are done in a house in the living room or in a backyard in a very natural environment , so baby is not too distracted and overstimulated by the too many artificial decoration and drawings like in mommy and me sessions , all baby will see is other babies with their mummies in their house like him singing and dancing , music is soft respectful to baby's refined senses .
i don't mean to say this dvd is not good , but i feel it is too loud and too crowded for babies , maybe it is more suitable for preschoolers .
i just felt sorry for that baby among the group trying to follow up on the wheel on the bus song .the same song could be sang in a more apropriate and respectful way for younger babies senses.
Fun time with your baby!.......2007-01-16
Love the music and so does my 22 month old!! She loves dancing and clapping but most of all I think she loves that I'm with her doing it!!

Horror maestro Tom Holland (Fright Night) brought wit and devilish energy to this 1988 scarefest about a murderer (Brad Dourif) who wills his soul into an innocuous doll named Chucky, and reveals himself only to the toy's owner, a frightened little boy. Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. Holland oversees some finely tuned special effects that allow Chucky to express himself and do some damage--it is truly unnerving but somehow good, subversive fun. --Tom Keogh

CHUCKY WANTS TO PLAY TILL U DIE!!.......2007-08-31
dolls are suppose to be your friends, the ones that make you feel better, and those that sleep with you throught the night...until now!! this movie is good enough to give anybody a scare. you'll never look at another doll the same again. the story is good, the actors do a good job, the kid hits it right on the dot. when it's over you'll still be thinking about it.
Still Scares the Hell Out Of Me.......2007-07-24
I don't know how I manage to sit through every single horror movie laughing until my stomach hurts, but I shrivel up whenever this movie is mentioned. I'm giving it five stars because to this day, I STILL will not watch this movie alone. I have this phobia about voodoo and I don't like dolls that have eyes that look too realistic, so watching this movie was a task for me. I recall sleeping in my parent's bedroom through this movie, and I wouldn't be surprised if I couldn't sleep alone NOW as grown as I am. The movie is basically about a doll that came to life and turned out to be evil as hell. I saw a life-sized version of this doll when I went to a haunted house on Halloween awhile back, and as soon as I turned to see it, I went flying past the line, kicked open the door, and ran for two blocks. I got to give whoever created this one much respect for scaring the mess out of me because that's very unusual to do.
One of my favorite horror movies.......2007-07-15
I really love this movie! It gives me a chill every time I watch it, even after all these years. Chucky is a vicious killer, without the sense of humor he displays in the sequals. I feel terrible for the mother and can't imagine what I'd do in her prediciment. This movie is excellent, and if you've watched the comedy/horror sequals first, do yourself a favor and forget them as you turn off the lights and watch Child's Play.
Hi i'm chucky wanna play?.......2007-05-18
Man this was more funnier than so called scary horror creepy or what ever you would call it but I call it funny and extremely corny but good. The notorious lakeshore strangler charles lee ray has been gunned down almost ready to die and has to find a temporary replacement body so he will not die which is chucky (brad dourif) the friendly good guy doll who is every childs friend to the end but when chucky reveals to the child andy barkley that he's alive andy must make a run from the hospital to his home and lock the doors and arm himself to defeat chucky and protect his soul from chucky who want's out of the body and andy's mom saves him from getting his soul almost taken away. Actually I own an 8 plush chucky doll chucky rules.
The doll doesn't look scary but its MERCILESS personality makes up for that and then some.......2007-05-05
This is the movie that spawned 4 sequels (all inferior) and gave rise to one of the most well known and feared characters in horror cinema: "Chucky the killer doll."
To save himself from death, a man puts his soul into a doll because "nobody would be able to hurt" him but, more than that, he had no other choice. The doll is then bought by a mother as a birthday gift to her 6 year old son. Over the next couple of days the reincarnated Chucky is determined to settle old scores with the people who killed him. Spooky enough for you?
Alright, the doll isn't THAT scary-looking. But I just love its attitude of killing without mercy and the fact that the doll obviously enjoys killing people. I wasn't scared so much as thrilled that the doll loves doing what it does and makes an art of it and, I think deliberately, tries to be creative in how it kills people. This doll also has what has got to be THE most distinctive and recognizable laugh of any major horror figure.
It's all good fun except for one thing: The reason why I didn't give five stars is the kid (Andy) sucks at acting. I know he's just a kid but there are millions of kids out there and thousands of them could do a better job. How this kid said his lines didn't 'feel' right half the time.
One last thing: Chucky is not, in my opinion, the scariest doll in horror films. If you want to get something that involves a truly scary doll and makes Chucky look nice you should see the Trilogy of Terror. Having said that, I think that Chucky is, if not the scariest, arguably the most entertaining. It's a great movie to watch on a Friday night with a couple of friends. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you at least rent it.

Pretty Good.......2007-07-19
This is not mine nor my kids favorite Teletubbies movie. It is cute and they will watch it but my son will ask for one of the others over it everytime.
A good one.......2006-08-16
This is one of about 6 Teletubbies DVDs we own and is one of the best. The scenes with the Tubbies are more interesting than some of the ones in our other videos, and include a scene with Dipsy watching what's going on in Tubbyland, a scene with Tubby custard bubbles, and more. The scenes with the kids are also good, and there is a special feature that my 20 mo. old son also likes, where the Tubbies play on a seesaw. This DVD, along with "All Together Teletubbies" and "Look" are my son's favorites. He also likes "Favorite Things" but I think that's only available on VHS.
Lots of Fun!.......2006-08-07
My 19 month old LOVES the Teletubbies. This video is tons of fun.

When children help around the house, it fosters confidence, resourcefulness, and independence--the theme of this 30-minute Nick Jr. Baby program. Music and narration accompany live-action footage of youngsters engaged in worthy tasks, while a handful of pastel-colored animal puppets cheer them on. Short vignettes, appropriate for the brief attention span of wee ones, depict familiar home responsibilities. In one, a girl puts away her toys; in another, a boy washes fruit for a salad. Kids wash the car, sweep the floor, bring in the newspaper, and set the table--visibly satisfied with their accomplishments. Rather than providing instructional detail on various chores, the film's goal is to empower kids to try their hand around the house, and remind parents to let them do so. Turns Kids into Eddie Haskell.......2007-07-15
The DVD itself isn't that funny or entertaining for an adult, but just wait until it's over. For the next hour or so, your toddler will be so sugary and accommodating, you'll be happy when it wears off and you have your usual howler-monkey back. It makes you appreciate your rude little cave-babies while possibly imparting some lasting lessons about manners and cleaning up toys to them. The puppets are of the same ilk as those on Jack's Big Music Show (same production company), but the writing, voicework and music are not. This will not entertain anyone older than five. It shouldn't have to, but with Jack, that's a bonus.
Great Fun!.......2007-05-17
This was upbeat and fun for my 18 month old. She really liked it, but seemed to lose interest before the end. I've been letting her watch it during quiet time in the afternoon recently and now she watches the entire video and asks to watch it again. I've grown to like it more now than I did when I first previewed it and it's a bonus that she also seems more interested in it now too!
Not Too Pleasing.......2007-03-09
I was interested in buying the series because my daughter was dancing to a commercial but once i purchased the dvd, my daughter wasn't too attntive to it. Her interest lasted no more than a week, so it was a waste of money.
Captivating.......2007-01-06
My 1 1/2 year old daughter will watch this while I get dishes washed or dinner ready. It's cute and teaches her good things, and she loves the music.
My Triplets LOVE This!.......2006-12-28
Great fun and learning. Can't compare with anything else out there!

Adults have these same needs.......2005-09-19
I used this DVD with college students learning about human development. Using experts in the field, such as Brazelton and trained teachers working directly with children in an inner city day care center, this DVD gives specific examples of what helps and what hinders healthy development. My only reservation about the content was the implication of dire consequences if a child did not receive these opportunities at a given age. Adults have similar needs and it is never too late to heal and learn the value of self esteem, music, play, care, touch, etc. That said, care givers of young children will benefit from the ideas presented in this well-scripted and interesting DVD.

Surf's up as the Curious Buddies head to the beach for seaside exploration and discovery in this 30-minute Nick Jr. program combining live action footage, animated games, and kid-friendly music. From swimming and sandcastles to sailboats and surfboards, the sea is an engaging setting for toddlers to learn about the natural world around them. In one scene, kids collect seashells in sand buckets before an on-screen game invites viewers to sort ocean objects into similar groups. In another sequence, schools of tropical fish swim in tidepools, followed by footage of squealing children jumping in waves. An upbeat dance with the Curious Buddies teaches the meaning of "stop" and "go"; later, youngsters are challenged with simple games to develop reasoning skills of comparison, counting, and sequencing. As the sun sets over the sea, viewers will hear one last song about beach walks while watching parents and children stroll the shore and savor some tender memories. Awesome.......2007-07-07
My son never liked to watch tv till when he was about 18 months and i found these. he was immediately drawn to the puppets, the songs(which are addictive) and the scenery. these are great dvds for your little one. my son liked them much more than all of his baby einstein combined. id give these at least a try if you're skeptical before you go for something else. my neighbors daughter loved them too. they have a continuous play on them also.
Can't live without.......2007-01-05

Red Riding Hood Pee-Eww... I mean Review.......2007-09-04
Be prepared to watch the enhanced version of "Little Red Riding Hood". Ever wondered what became of Red's father? Want to know a little more about her mother and grandmother? This version of the classic fairy tale is certainly full of surprises. It was so surprising, I didn't even recognize the original story. In fact, the real story doesn't even begin until about a half hour into the movie!
"Red Riding Hood" features an oddball collection of characters in a disinteresting plot. The only "mildly interesting" character is the wolf who spends much of the show disguised as a spy for Red's uncle. This film includes a cute little ditty entitled "Never Talk To Strangers", which is the underlying moral of this tale. Though I still wouldn't show this movie to any child younger than 10.
Wonderful movie.......2006-12-28
Although this movie departs greatly from the original fairy tale, it is still worth purchasing. It is well made, the acting is superb, with Isabella Rosselini reminiscent of her wonderful mother Ingrid Bergman. I taped this for my daughter on VHS many years ago and she watched it so much! It is very well done and no one who buys it will be disappointed. It would be intense for very young children, however.
To be perfectly honest..........2005-10-04
I am 15 years old and I've only seen this movie 2...3...4...times? Something like that. We have a crumby tape recording of 4 songs of the movie. It doesn't matter to me how crumby the recording is; I've listened to it religiously for years. That's how good the songs are.
It has been noted here that "Never Talk to Strangers" is a favorite song of many. It's my favortie as well. It's absolutely incredible how the werewolf is developing his own personality. He is warning the girl, quite literally, of himself. He seems exasperated when she doesn't listen - of course the carefree Red Riding Hood doesn't take anything anyone says seriously. I have wondered whether he is honestly hoping in a hidden heart (unlike his truly heartless master) that the girl will be able to stay away from him, or only slyly winning her trust. That's only a tiny, twisted piece of how great the plot is.
All in all, it's very true what the other reviewers have said - this is nothing like the original story we all know. It's better. It's been expanded into a world of lifelike characters, the simple life of the harvest (Green in the Blue), Corrupt politics (Red's uncle, naturally), war (her father was fighting)... and everything else you could hope for in a fairy story. A wonderful tale to grow up on. I know that from experience.
One last thing I note, is that it does not portray the wild wolf, a natural animal quite as badly as the old tales because it is a summoned werewolf, not a natural wolf, who does the evil. This is a winning point in my book since I'm a majorly pro-wolf person. :)
Surprisingly bad.......2004-12-31
I bought this because it is made by Cannon Movie Tales and I love "Puss in Boots", which they also made. Because "Puss in Boots" was so good, I thought this would be, too. Alas, I was disappointed. "Red Riding Hood" has almost no relation to the story we are all familiar with. The plot in the actual fairytale is more of a parenthetical remark than the main story line in this movie. Add to this that the acting was rather painful and the special effects were anything but special and you are left with 1 star. The one thing it had going for it was that it was perfectly clean and not very scary for youngsters. Since small children are easier to please in the cinematic area than adults, perhaps they would still enjoy this adaptation to "Little Red Riding Hood".
GREAT .......2004-12-30
THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE AND ITS AWSOME THAT IT IS FINALLY ON DVD BUT WHEN ARE THE REST OF THE CANNON MOVIE TALES GONNA BE OUT ON DVD?

Eebee's Adventures is a celebration of the everyday interactions between infants and their caregivers and how they promote social and intellectual growth. Paced slowly to honor the pace of very young infants, Eebee's Adventures features a colorful puppet Eebee and caregiver Kristy as well as real children and adults as they explore everyday objects like containers, laundry, and books. Kristy is very animated and enthusiastic, responding to Eebee's natural interests with simple games that encourage exploration, experimentation, and lead to the development of concepts like object permanence, turn taking, and even the verbalization of sounds and rhythms. The program is visually and aurally stimulating to infants and also serves as a new parent's primer on how to play with infants in an educational and meaningful way. Bonus features include a developmental perspective by experts in early childhood development (exactly the same on each Eebee program), a play by play guide highlighting the skills and developmental ages featured in each section of the program, music clips, and a musical rendition of "Eebee's Beat." (Ages 6 months to 2 years) --Tami Horiuchi

Not for passive viewing!.......2006-11-22
It is so nice to find a dvd that encourages parents and children to play together. This is especially helpful for those of us who don't know tons of "baby" games. My daughter loves the music and likes to play along with Eebee. We also play the games without the dvd.
You do need some props, but I found this really inspirational in terms of ideas for playing with baby! WAY better than watching your child zone out to a dvd (which kind of freaks me out, to be honest).
Loved seeing real kids!.......2005-09-27
My two boys (ages 3 1/2 and 1 ) really enjoyed the DVD. Both kids even sat still for most of it. My one-year old seemed to really respond to the actual children in the DVD. He got very verbal when he saw the kids doing something with the balls or he would bounce up and down in excitement. My three year old wanted to watch over and over again to see how the balls moved. He now wants me to go find different tubes and see how the balls work in them.
This DVD was really worth watching!
LOVED how this appealed to my son's mind!.......2005-09-16
My 10-month old loved this DVD. He watched eebee intently and smiled when he watched the children on the video. Unlike the Baby Einstein series (which is simply a barrage of images) the eebee video actually shows my son how to play with a ball and other items in our home. During the video, I attempted to recreate the ball play they did and my son responded very well. I'd rather have my son watch this video and actually learn something than the other video which seems to go nowhere. I look forward to seeing new eebee DVDs in the future.
Great ideas for parents!.......2005-09-15
I loved this DVD! The bold, bright colors are so fun. Eebee is so cute and the mother is beautiful! There are so many great ideas to do with your baby. I highly recommend it.
Fun AND Educational.......2005-09-11
This DVD is wonderful. I love the music, the bright colors, the puppet, the babies, and the loving adults. It is great fun and is so developmentally approriate for the youngest people in our lives. It helps them to learn important skills by seeing other children their age doing things. I definitely recommend it.
