The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning is a prequel to the recent remake of Tobe Hooper's classic 1974 splatter film, with an emphasis on the vogue for torture and bottomless depravity that characterize contemporary horror. As one might expect, The Beginning is just that, an origins tale about the Hewitt family of backwoods Texas. Step by step, we discover the source of their taste for human flesh, penchant for snaring young people passing through, and, most of all, how young Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski) came to choose his favorite power tool and wear a mask made of someone else's flesh. R. Lee Ermey is very effective in his perverse authority figure mode as Hoyt, the lawman who earned his badge through unorthodox means and now supplies specialized food to the Lone Star cannibals. Much less interesting than Hooper's two Massacre films, The Beginning (on which Hooper has a production credit) is not so much a tribute to the films he directed but a more sadistic continuation of the franchise. --Tom Keogh

Description

The only thing more shocking than how it ended is how it all began! Born under unspeakable circumstances, a young orphan is taken in by the sick and demented Hewitt family and soon the seeds of a deranged murderer are planted. When two brothers and their girlfriends stumble across the house of horrors. Leatherface reveals his ravenous appetite for chainsaws and torture as the teens fight to survive.

2 out of 5 stars MISLEADING TITLE! BETTER THAN THE OTHER SEQUELS AND REMAKE!.......2007-08-28

I wanted to see this movie because I love the original and hoped that this movie would deal with Leatherface growing up and finding some answers into this sick, but iconic horror figure's origin. I was not going to get it in this film! The film is called the beginning, but what we get is a series of flashbacks that are no longer than the opening credits! This was a missed opportunity for what could have been a worthy entry in the series just turns out to be just another bad copy of the original! I will say that the gore in this one is excessive, but it is so over the top I had to say to myself "this is just a movie and this is fake". This made me laugh till my eyes watered as Sheriff Hoyt's remedy for a gunshot wound in his uncle's leg is to cut both of his uncle's legs off! I have seen all of the Texas Chainsaw movies and I thought all were worthless except the original. Every movie is pretty much a bad remake with a victim ending up at the dinner table and getting chased by our chainsaw welding maniac until they are saved by a passing truck or something and Leatherface is having a tantrum because one of them got away. The only redeeming quality in this film is that they capture a bit of the relentlessness of the original and that is why I give it 2 stars! It is one wild ride even if the movie is a disappointment! The DVD transfer looks good and nasty!

5 out of 5 stars THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING (2006).......2007-08-26

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, in 2003, was remade and released to a new generation of Horror film fans all around the world. Three years later, making it 2006, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING was released giving us a glimpse of how Leatherface became to be.

August 1939, Thomas Hewitt is born under unspeakable circumstances in a meat-packing plant in Travis County Texas. His mother dies right after birth (partially due to the neglect of her employer) and soon after, the plant boss abandons the newborn in a dumpster out back. Only to be discovered by LUDA MAE HEWITT (played by Marietta Marich) while she searches for food. She proceeds to take the baby, whom she named THOMAS, to the Hewitt residence where the seeds of one of the most deranged and infamous murderers in American history are planted.

July 1969, brothers ERIC (played by Matthew Bomer) and DEAN (played by Taylor Handley) are being driven across the country by their girlfriends CHRISSIE (played by the sexy Jordana Brewster) and BAILEY (played by Diora Baird) to be shipped out to Vietnam. This will be Eric's second tour of duty as he is returning to watch over his recently drafted little brother. Unknown to Eric, Dean has his own plans to dodge the draft and head down to Mexico with Bailey. As they pass through Travis County, they stumble across the house of horrors where a now adult LEATHERFACE (THOMAS BROWN HEWITT) (again played by Andrew Bryniarski) has developed a disturbing interest in chainsaws and bloody torture. Bailey, Eric, and Dean are killed off, leaving Chrissie to defend herself against the cannibalistic wackos. After a gory braw witht he family, Chrissie finally escapes by breaking into a car parked out front of the Hewitt residents and drives off, relieved that she has escaped with her life. As she drives, Leatherface appears in the back seat and slices Chrissie through the back killing her off.

The 2003 remake of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was outstanding for living up to the original 1974, although making itself scarier, gorier, and way more disturbing. THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING shows itself to be even more disturbing and even more gorier than its predecessor. I was shocked to see that Jordana Brewster's character was killed off, leaving no survivors for the film, but after awhile, it made sense to me while there were no survivors: Simply because this film is to show us how Leatherface and his psychotic family had gotten started.

4 out of 5 stars Gore, blood, torture and teenagers.......2007-08-22

It's 1969--for the beginning of the Texas Rampage.
I don't usually care for slasher sequels, but I loved this one. It was filmed well and the acting was good.
Director Jonathan Liebesman is a bit too fond of the shaky camera effect, which works momentarily to freak your view of the craziness of the movie, I liked it.
Plot-crazy Southern folk killing, torturing and eating teenagers who pass through (nutsville Texas), and it doesn't hold back on the gore, blood, cannibalism and so on.
Nispel's "original" is better, but this one still delivers.

2 out of 5 stars well, it has gore..........2007-08-20

mildly amusing and zero percent thought provoking or original. Lots of sub par gore that is cashing in of a franchise instead of really adding anything new for true horror fans. Hot chicks and chainsaws...yeah, i get it. If your a fan of new horror this has high production value and is right up your ally. If your old school this is a been there, seen that film.

1 out of 5 stars Hopefully, the end !.......2007-08-16

Wow, what a waste of time and money this pointless "prequel" is. Just another reason to lay on the gore with a garden hose and once again cash in on the title with little regard for the audience or even a decent plot.
Waste of time!!!!!!!!!

This sensational, extremely influential, 1974 low-budget horror movie directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist, Lifeforce, Salem's Lot), may be notorious for its title, but it's also a damn fine piece of moviemaking. And it's blood-curdling scary, too. Loosely based on the true crimes of Ed Gein (also a partial inspiration for Psycho), the original Jeffrey Dahmer, Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows a group of teenagers who pick up a hitchhiker and wind up in a backwoods horror chamber where they're held captive, tortured, chopped up, and impaled on meat hooks by a demented cannibalistic family, including a character known as Leatherface who maniacally wields one helluva chainsaw. The movie's powerful sense of dread is heightened by its grainy, semi-documentary style--but it also has a wicked sense of humor (and not that camp, self-referential variety that became so tiresome in subsequent horror films of the '70s, '80s, and '90s). OK, in case you couldn't tell, it's "not for everyone." But as a landmark in the development of the horror/slasher genre, it ranks with Psycho, Halloween, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. --Jim Emerson

5 out of 5 stars THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974).......2007-08-26

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, clearly what is to be the slasher film that started them all, is definitely one the scariest movies in all horror/serial killer slasher films ever to be made, and went on to set the grounds for future slasher films that were eventually to come (i.e. HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, etc.)

Bickering siblings, SALLY HARDESTY (played by Marilyn Burns) and wheelchair-bound FRANKLIN HARDESTY (played by Paul A. Partain), visit their grandfather's in a cemetery in rural Texas with their companions JERRY (played byAllen Danziger), KIRK (played by William Vail) and PAM (played by Teri McMinn) after hearing that the graveyard has been vandalized and corpses have been constructed into figures. While driving to the Hardesty's now deserted former house, they encounter a heat-struck, possibly crazy hitchhiker. However, after he torments them and threatens Franklin with violence, they kick him out of the van.

Running low on gas, the group pulls over at a gas station/barbaque, where the owner says that they won't have any fuel until the next morning. Upon learning where the teens are going, the owner advises them against going there. The group finally arrives at the Hardesty farm. Following Franklin's directions to a childhood swimming hole, Kirk and Pam set off to find it while the others stay at the old house. Finding the swimming hole dried up, Kirk and Pam hear the sound of a gas-powered generator which attracts them to a farmhouse nearby. While there they encounter a junkyard of vehicles and finally discover the house. Kirk investigates and is eventually attacked by LEATHERFACE (played by Gunnar Hansen) with a sledgehammer while Pam is outside. Pam then enters searching for Kirk, but also falls prey to Leatherface, and is hung onto a meathook.

As night approaches, Sally, Franklin and Jerry become restless waiting, so Jerry searches for Pam and Kirk. He also becomes one of Leatherface's victims. As night falls, Leatherface searches for more prey while Sally and Franklin search for the house. Their cries attract Leatherface, who bursts upon them and instantly attacks Franklin with a chainsaw, repeatedly driving it through his body. Sally flees through a forest, cutting herself graphically on branches before finding the house. She enters it, but leaves upon discovering that it belongs to Leatherface. With the maniac relentlessly pursuing her, Sally runs all the way back to the gas station. On arrival, Leatherface apparently disappears while she appeals to the gas station owner for help. Instead, he attacks her with a broom, throws a burlap sack over her and bundles her into his truck. This character, known only as the "Old Man," is now revealed to be Leatherface's father. He takes her straight back to the farmhouse, reaching the driveway at the same time as the hitchhiker, who is also apparently part of the family.

Sally is taken into the house and tied to a chair. When they remove the sack, she and the hitchhiker recognise each other, and he immediately taunts her. He and Leatherface then bring down the withered figure of "GRANDPA" (played by John Dugan) from the upstairs bedroom, slicing open Sally's finger so he can suck the blood from it, where she then passes out.

Dawn approaches, Sally flees the house, after a gruesome cannabalistic dinner with the three crazed men, and attempts to escape onto the highway. The knife-wielding hitchhiker and the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface give chase. Just as the hitchhiker reaches her and begins slashing at Sally, an eighteen wheeler truck suddenly appears and accidentally runs him down. The truck driver stops and gets out, only to be confronted by Sally being chased at close quarters by Leatherface. As the woman and the driver climb into the truck, the killer attacks the vehicle with the saw. Escaping through the other side of the cab, the driver throws a large wrench at Leatherface which catches him in the head, knocking him down and causing him to cut his right leg. The truck driver flees down the road. As Leatherface rises to his feet and limps after Sally despite his injury, a pickup truck arrives on the scene. Sally finds time to enter the back of the truck, leaving the film to finish with a shot of Leatherface in the middle of the road, wielding the saw above his head in frustration.

I've seen plenty of horrifying slasher films in my day, but none of them will ever be as horrifying and morbid as THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. This 2-disc Special Edition will not only give this outstanding film, but a bonus disc with "KILLER" special features to go along with it.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest horror flick of all time.......2007-08-23

I know everyone says thay the exorcist is the greatest horror flick of all time, but this one is better. While maybe overall the exorcist was a better movie, nothing truly defines horror like this movie. The simple ease with which leatherface kills is simple and without emotion. Like a butcher cutting fat. The slow progress to constant horrific experiences is brutal. The near twenty minutes of a woman screaming and constantly brutalized is too much to take. I don't know if I can say I like this movie, or that I can recomend it. But I can say it is the best at being horror.

2 out of 5 stars SHOCKING(ly bad? awww...).......2007-08-21

so i put two stars because if you are talking to horror fans about horror, you need to have seen this, it somehow "redefined horror", so i guess it has a sort of cachet as far as that goes. but honestly i can say the only reason you should watch this movie is so you can say you have seen it. there were parts i found intriguing, the hitchhiker scene, the opening with the "corpse-art" (genuinely horrifying), and a few things besides. but the acting is TERRIBLE!!!
it's one saving grace i felt was Marilyn Burns as Sally Hardesty - - the last part, as the truck drives away, and the way she is crazily laughing and crying, covered in blood, i thought was gorgeous and flawlessly done on her part. but the rest seemed to me to be middle-school-drama-class level acting, and the way the whole thing deteriorates toward the end leaves me to imagine tobe hooper and all the crew stoned out of their gourds and doing their damndest to finish filming with little regard to the movie they started out with.
i hate to say it, because the remake isn't that great, but the remake is better...
so to sum up: one star because this film did spawn a mess of sequels and pretty much the slasher genre, so i guess that makes it culturally important, and another star for marilyn burns.
but honestly, if you are going to buy it, buy the cheapest copy they have on here.
ps. no matter what they do, you can't make a worse movie than TCM2. i'd smear dog poo on my tv and watch it before i watched that piece of trash again. so maybe it gets a half a star for not being TCM2. but half a star isn't an option so i guess i'll stick with two.

5 out of 5 stars Grandpa, quit sucking on my finger.............2007-08-13

Surprised I'm reviewing this? I'm not one to watch horror flicks. This was pure horror, not porror. This movie is indeed very suspenseful. It is about a twisted cannibalistic family that has nothing better to do than make barbeques out of human remains. The story begins when Sally, her wheelchair-bound brother (Franklin), and friends, Curt, Pam and Jerry set out to a cemetery to see if their grandpa's grave is still intact. It seems someone is graverobbing and taking corpses out of their cripts in this small Texas town. Grandpa's grave was okay, so the five young people went to see Sally and Franklin's dad's abandon house. You can almost guess the horror about to happen. We are introduced to an array of characters. There is a hitchiker that put new meaning to the word weird. Leatherface and his chainsaw getting the bodies ready for barbecuing. The cook slapping his sons into shape. I was never bored! This movie kept me in suspense and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Was I scared? NO! There were parts that even made me laugh---When demented family brought grandpa down to let him have a "little fun". This film definitely had me entertained. I actually enjoyed this film! I don't call myself a horror buff, but this flick is a definite buy for any movie goer.

4 out of 5 stars Better than I expected........2007-07-31

You know how some people say the original is always better than the remake? I personally find the opposite to be true. No matter what movie genre, I find that most older movies lack the intensity and rawness of a lot of movies in the 21st century. So after I saw the remake version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (and having the life scared out of me), I decided to watch the original just to see what the big fuss was about. To my surprise, I ended up really liking it.

So what's this movie about? Basically, a group of kids are on a roadtrip when they come across a town of creepy people. Worse yet, these "creepy" people are murderers. Weapon of choice? Chainsaws.

Let's talk about the positives first. Although some may be sick of the whole "group of college trips on a roadtrip get chased by some psycho killer" storyline, I personally find it to be thrilling. You know something bad is going to happen, you just don't know when or how. I was on the edge of my seat during the entire last half of the movie. Second, as I said above, I generally find that older movies aren't all that great. I actually thought that this movie seemed more real than the remake. While the remake contained a lot of unlikeable characters (and I'm talking about the kids who were being chased by the killer), I had a lot of sympathy for the characters in the original. Some may find the chasing scene (I hope I'm not giving too much away) to be repetitive and too long but I felt like I was in the character's shoes and I truly felt fearful for her. There are quite a few scenes in this movie that had me shocked and disgusted with the knowledge that unlike a lot of other scary movies, the things that happened in this film could actually happen.

And now for the negatives. There's really only one thing that I didn't like about this movie. A good portion of the beginning of the movie had me yawning a bit. I was very close to turning off my TV and writing off this movie as being bad but thankfully I stuck around to watch the rest.

Overall, I give this movie 4 stars. If I could, I probably would have given it 4.5 stars but I don't think it's worthy of 5 stars simply because of the sort of dull first half of the film. However, I definitely recommend this movie to all.

The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure and simple slasher movie formula: Introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel (Summer Catch) wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff, and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark. Also featuring Eric Balfour (Six Feet Under) and R. Lee Ermey (Full Metal Jacket, Mail Call). --Bret Fetzer

Bad movie. I advise you to stay away, unless you enjoy watching Jessica Biel get tortured.

5 out of 5 stars THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (2003).......2007-08-26

In 1974, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was claimed to be the scariest movie ever made. The film was a huge box office smash, spawning three sequels (THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III, & THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION). But in 2003, director Michael Bay gave us this incredible remake: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.

The movie starts off with some police footage of the crime scene where the massacre took place. Then seen are random bits of evidence such as glasses and paper with writing on it. We then see a police evidence tape that has a walkthrough of the HEWITT home. We see the officer guiding through the stairwell to the basement as he points out some scratches on the wall (which is shown later on in the film). We then see five teens swimming in a river.

The film flashes back to that of August 18, 1973, five college kids, ERIN (played by the sexy Jessica Biel), KEMPER (played by Eric Balfour), PEPPER (played by Erica Leerhson), ANDY (played by Mike Vogel), and MORGAN (played by Jonathan Tucker), are on their way to a LYNRYD SKYNYRD concert in Dallas. The kids are returning from a trip to Mexico, where Kemper, unbeknownst to his girlfriend, Erin, bought marijuana. As they are driving through Travis County, Texas, they see a girl about their age walking nearly in the middle of the road. After nearly hitting her, Erin insists that they pick her up, so they do. She is in some sort of hysterical state and babbles about a "really bad man". The teens take her in their car where she says, "You're all gonna die," before shooting herself in the mouth. The five teenagers are in shock. They find an old gas station and stop there to call the police and report the suicide. The owner of the station calls the sheriff for them, and she tells them that they need to meet him at an old mill called "the old Crawford mill." They drive to the old mill, but find no sheriff. While they are looking around, they find a young boy named JEDIDIAH (played by David Dorfman) living inside the mill. He tells them that the sheriff is probably "at home getting drunk." They ask if they can drive there from the mill, but Jedidiah tells them that the road doesn't go there, and "it's a short walk." Erin and Kemper take off through the woods to find the sheriff's house, leaving the other three teenagers at the mill.

Erin and Kemper eventually come to a large gray-brick house in a field. Erin is allowed inside by the owner, an old man in a wheelchair with no legs, but Kemper is told to wait outside. Erin calls the sheriff while Kemper, fed-up with waiting, sneaks inside the house to look for her. While he is snooping around, he gets hit in the back with an axe and dragged into the basement by LEATHERFACE (whose real name is THOMAS BROWN HEWITT) (played by Andrew Bryniarski). Erin leaves without Kemper, who she assumes has already left, and heads back to the old mill. Meanwhile, the sheriff is already at the mill with the other three. He wraps up the body of the dead girl with plastic wrap and has the kids put her in the trunk of his car. Erin eventually makes it back to the mill just as the sheriff is leaving, and discovers that Kemper is not there. She and Andy go back to the house to look for him. Andy sneaks inside while Erin distracts the owner. The old man soon discovers what they are up to, and summons Leatherface, who chases them out of the house with his chainsaw. Erin gets away, but Andy's leg is severed and he is taken inside where he is hung on a meat hook in the basement. Erin arrives back at the mill in a panic where Morgan and Pepper are waiting inside the van. Erin tries starting the van, but it doesn't work. The sheriff soon shows up again, and spots marijuana inside the van. He orders the three out of the van and forces them to the ground. He makes Morgan re-enact the suicide, and then kidnaps him, leaving the girls alone at the mill with the van. Soon Leatherface shows up (wearing Kemper's face) and cuts Pepper in half with the chainsaw. Erin is chased through the woods until she arrives at a small trailer. She takes refuge inside the trailer, where a heavyset woman known as "THE TEA LADY" (played by Kathy Lamkin) and a pale thin woman reside. The skinny woman, who has apparently stolen a baby from a previous victim, gives Erin some drug-laced tea that knocks her out while the Tea Lady looks on. Erin wakes up back inside the Hewitt house. Immediately after she wakes up, she is thrown into the basement by Leatherface. She finds Andy on the hook, and in act of sympathy, kills him with a large knife. She then finds Morgan still alive and they escape from the basement with the help of Jedidiah, who distracts Leatherface long enough for them to find a cellar door that leads outside. With Leatherface chasing them, they find an abandoned house and hide inside. Leatherface finds them, however, and kills Morgan by using his chainsaw to split him in two up the middle. Erin runs out of the house and makes it to barbed wire fence. She crawls through, but Leatherface trips and cuts himself with the chainsaw. Erin continues to run.

Erin soon makes it to a large meat factory. She goes inside, grabs a meat cleaver, and hides from Leatherface in a locker. When he comes by the locker she jumps out and severs his arm with the cleaver. She then runs back outside and is picked up by a trucker. She panics when they pass a familiar sign, so the trucker stops at the gas station to get help. While the trucker goes inside, Erin hops out of the truck and peaks through the gas station window. She sees the sheriff and the skinny woman with the stolen baby. The sheriff walks outside, and Erin runs him over with his own car, and then drives away with the baby. As Erin is comforting the child, Leatherface appears in the middle of the road, brandishing his chainsaw in his other arm. He slices the drivers' side door off the car but Erin is unharmed. Leatherface just breathes heavily from the blood loss and stares as the car drives away. The final scene shows the second half of the police tape. This shows the men being attacked by Leatherface in his basement. A few fast-paced shots of him fly by the screen, then we cut to the officers' funerals. We then have a look at the only known image of Leatherface and are informed that "The scene was not properly secured by Travis County Police. Two investigating officers were fatally wounded that day. This is the only known footage we have of Thomas Hewitt, the man they call Leatherface. The case remains open."

Now, the 1974 original film was awesome, horrifying, and very disturbing. But it doesn't even compare to the 2003 remake. This 2003 remake is way scarier, even gorier, and way more disturbing than that of the original 1974 film. This was an awesome remake that deserves 100 stars, not 5.

4 out of 5 stars an admirable remake.......2007-08-25

i had ordered the original and through a mix up got sent the remake instead... i figured i would watch it. i am NOT a fan of remade movies, but i was pleasantly surprised! it seemed to me to be a good, strong horror movie, and it redressed the gross wrongs put forth by the original. what won me over was when leatherface hangs one character on the meathook -- in the original, pam just keeps screaming the same screams she already is. watching the remake, i found myself saying, "damn right. now THAT'S how you get hung on a meat hook". it was drawn out, grotesque, brutal and fun... so much more enjoyable than the haphazard-ness of the original.
also to me the sheriff might be one of the better characters in a while... he reminds me of every wierd wacked-out scoutmaster i have ever encountered, only 100X more so and on speed. and with a gun. and he eats people.
there is a rich back-story here, you really get a sense of the whole thing being woven together in time and that somewhere out there in texas this really could happen. i felt the original had no grit, no reality to it. this one did. it was detailed, well shot, and the house might just be the scariest house i have ever seen. and shocking as all hell. still, it is a mostly a good horror movie, with some flaws, and it could never be considered a GREAT horror movie, but it's fine viewing and it revamps the original story very well.

5 out of 5 stars VVVVVVVVVVeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!.......2007-08-07

This was a good remake of a classic sicko flick...See it if you are a horror buff!

5 out of 5 stars The standard in horror re-makes!.......2007-07-19

I am partial when it comes to re-making a movie, especially if it is a re-make of an already known classic. When I first seen this movie I was very skeptical, after the first 15 minutes I was blown away.
With a few added parts that tell more of the story the originality is tuned up and it takes you on one hell of a rollercoaster ride. In my opinion this movie sets the standard on horror movie remakes. It goes more into detail of the story but they keep it original.

This wild, operatic 1986 sequel to 1974's low-budget horror hit--The Texas Chainsaw Massacre--is an extraordinary film that demonstrates just how far filmmaker Tobe Hooper had grown in the interim between the two movies. (Between the two movies, Hooper directed, among other things, the Spielberg production Poltergeist, the critically admired Lifeforce, and the spooky remake of Invaders from Mars.) In Massacre 2, Hooper enlists Dennis Hopper as a Texas Ranger seeking vengeance against the flesh-eating family that was introduced in the first film. Meanwhile, a radio deejay (Caroline Williams) is kidnapped by the family and brought to their underground lair. The performances are crazed, terrifying, and comic; the chainsaw fights are practically epic; the lighting and camera work are artful; the emotions are strong; and the ending is astounding, unparalleled in its imagery and force. --Tom Keogh

Description

From the director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this ghastly and hilarious (Variety) sequel descends into your deepest, darkest fears as a wacked-out lawman goes after human meat-cutters with his own high-octane chainsaws in a horrific showdown with the legendary leatherface and his entire cannibalistic family. For 14 years, former Texas Ranger Lefty Enright (Oscar® nominee* Dennis Hopper, Hoosiers) has been obsessed with finding the psychotic mass-murderers who killed his brother's children. And today he's in luck. A tough as nails late-night disc jockey (Caroline Williams, Days of Thunder) has caught the ghouls on tape in the act of slicing and dicing a couple of fun-loving rich kids. When she volunteers to help, Lefty persuades her to play the tape on-air to lure the maniacs out of hiding. But what she doesn't know is that she's the only witness to this diabolical family's butchery who hasn't been carved up for somebody's supper just yet! *1986: Supporting Actor, Hoosiers; Original Screenplay, Easy Rider

5 out of 5 stars Gold!.......2007-09-06

I can't believe the amount of negative responses this film has received! My horror collection spans hundreds of titles, yet The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 stands out as one of my all time favorites. However I can understand how hardcore followers of the original could pass this off as nonsense. Certainly when people saw the preview for TCM 2, they had a very different idea of what they were about to see. The TCM 2 is more of a parody of the slow moving documentary style original. It's loud, colorful, super gory, campy, and completely over the top.

If you're even viewing this DVD, you most likely already know what this movie is about. Lieutenant "Lefty" Enright (Dennis Hopper), a relative of the victims in the original, is on a mission to avenge their deaths. When the chainsaw murders of two yuppies is accidentally recorded on a local radio station, DJ Vanita "Stretch" Brock, turns the tape over to Lefty. The tape is then aired in hopes of luring the chainsaw wielding family out of hiding. Well, it works. From that point on, the movie is complete murderous mayhem. The most interesting aspect of the plot is that it's the only plot in the entire series that's different! From the original, to TCM: The Beginning the plot goes: Teens have car troubles on an isolated Texas backroad, cannibalistic family wreaks havoc, with literally no variation. It seems most people don't like TCM 2 because it is a comedy/horror hybrid. But the movie does it well! Yes, we see Leatherface express other emotions other than anger...such as being horny, but it all just adds to the bizarreness of the film as a whole. Tobe Hooper realized that a film called "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2" should not even attempt to take itself seriously, and quite frankly the audience should have realized that as well.

The characters in TCM 2 are some of the most memorable roles I can recall in a horror film. Jim Siedow plays the character "Dreighton Sawyer", a local chef adored by a town that has not caught on to the special ingredients he uses in his dishes. Bill Moseley as "Chop Top", easily one of the most bizzarre characters ever featured in a movie. The performances from these two are just incredible. They just cannot be imitated and I suspect a lot of the dialogue was actually improv. The forementioned Dennis Hopper and Caroline Williams along with the actor who plays Leatherace all do very well with what they were given to work with.

Tons of memorable scenes in the movie as well. We are treated to the hugely outlandish opening scene of yuppies vs. Leatherface in vehicles moving 90mph in reverse, Leatherface administering some chainsaw sex to the heroine, a slow dance in a room filled with rotting corpses...just great, goofy stuff. There's also a super gross scene of a partially skinned man regaining consciousness and pitifully trying to function. Plus the final scene is a chainsaw battle: Leatherface vs. Dennis Hopper, now tell me that's not worth the price of this DVD alone.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about this movie is the elaborate sets. A radio station, chainsaw shops, and best off all, the Sawyer's underground lair which is actually an abandoned amusement park. The Sawyer's lair is strewn with literally hundreds of feet of Christmas lights, hundreds of skeletons and bodies, twists and turns, it's really impressive. I can't even imagine how long that must have taken to set up. Like it or not, the effort is there.

Gore FX are provided by the master Tom Savini. Most of it is very well done, although some stop motion segments didn't come out that great, but what the hell it was 1986. Most of Tom's work really depends on the budget, and I definietly give him credit here. The score is almost like a parody of stereotypical horror movie music. Based on the whole tone scale for that eerie sound. The rest is mostly rock/punk music from the 80's w/ groups like The Cramps, Timbuk 3, Oingo Boingo, Concrete Blonde, which adds a sort of rock'n'roll feel to the film. This is a very big contrast to the almost noiseless original TCM.

As a horror buff I really do think that this movie is a great piece of work. I recommend it to anyone who loves campy type films and gore. Don't listen to the folks that bash this movie. Half of the negative reviews come from people who admit that they haven't even seen the original TCM! If they don't understand, then they shouldn't be watching this. So prepare to see some hammer smashed faces, people skinned alive, and some chainsaw battles and check out The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2!

5 out of 5 stars THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (1986).......2007-08-26

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, released in 1974, was considered to be the scariest movie ever made. As far as I'm concerned not only was the film scary as hell, it was also extremely morbid. Director TOBE HOOPER, the director to the first film returns to direct THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, the original film's long-anticipated sequel.

The story opens as two rowdy high school seniors race out of control along an abandoned stretch of Texas highway in route to a weekend of fun in Dallas. Heavily intoxicated and in the mood for some fun, these two hellions use their car phone to call in and harass on-air DJ, VANITA "STRETCH" BROCK (played by the sexy Caroline Williams). Unable to convince the boys to hang up, Stretch is forced to keep the line open and later with what began as a simple game of chicken quickly turns into a nightmare as their gruesome deaths are caught on tape at the radio station. After a fourteen year absence, a legend has now emerged from the shadows.

In steps LIEUTENANT "LEFTY" ENRIGHT (played by Dennis Hopper), former Texas Ranger and uncle of SALLY HARDESTY and her invalid brother, FRANKLIN. It seems Lefty has spent the last fourteen years chasing their ghosts while investigating reports of mysterious chainsaw killings across Texas. Branded a kook by his peers, he is able to get the local paper to carry a tiny article about his quest and this sparks the interest of Stretch who brings him a copy of the tape. At first mortified, Lefty asks Stretch to play the tape on her nightly show. She does so as a special request from Lefty and terror comes a calling.

As the sounds of this horrible incident echoes across the airwaves of Texas, a few of Stretch's fans decide to drop by for an unexpected visit. While preparing to leave for the night, she finds CHOP TOP (played by Bill Moseley), who turns out to be the twin brother to the "Hitchhiker" (Chop Top was stationed in Vietnam during the first film) waiting out in the lobby. When she tries to get rid of him, out of the darkness comes Leatherface ready to rip her in two. But it seems the "saw" has taken a shining to Stretch and lets her live.

LEATHERFACE (played by Bill Johnson) joins Chop-Top as they haul Stretch's near dead co-worker off to their home. She follows them, and winds up trapped inside the Sawyer home (which is, in fact, an abandoned carnival ground, decorated with human bones, multi-colored lights and carnival remnants.) Lefty turns up, with a chainsaw of his own, and begins to carve up the home in a rage, shortly before he finds the remains of his nephew, Franklin.

After THE COOK (played by Jim Siedow, who played the same character in the first film) finds Stretch roaming the grounds, they take her captive. Lefty eventually finds her being tortured at the dinner table and saves her. A battle between Lefty and the Sawyer family ensues, peaking with a chainsaw duel between Leatherface and Lefty. In the end, Lefty and most of the Sawyer family (Leatherface, Grandpa and the Cook) are apparently killed (offscreen) when one of the Cook's grenades goes off prematurely. Only Chop-Top and Stretch escape, where they do final battle in a carved out rock tower that overlooks the property. Stretch carves Chop-Top up with a chainsaw, where he falls off the tower to a presumed death. The final shot has Stretch, standing on top of the tower, emulating Leatherface's famous chainsaw dance from the ending of the first film.

For years, I've been wanting to this first-up sequel to the classic, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, but never had the chance. I finally got the chance not too far back, but at the time of the movie's start, I wasn't expecting too much out of it. Man, was I wrong. This is one hell of a worthy follow-up to its classic of a predecessor.

1 out of 5 stars 0 STARS: Hooper goes in a different direction with the sequel...the result is not pretty........2007-08-17

In Tobe Hooper's sequel to the classic original "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", Hooper goes in a different direction with the sequel, and the result is a disaster of epic proportions. The viewer should be warned that if one is expecting anything even remotely like the original (as I was hoping for), that viewer will be very disappointed to say the least. So, what's wrong with "TCM 2"? Well, to be perfectly frank, there are a laundry list of criticisms for this movie, but the most glaring flaw with "TCM 2" is the lack of the atmosphere of the original horror classic.

It's clear early on in the film that "TCM 2" does not even attempt to recapture the "feel" of the original classic. In other words, the realistic/documentary type feel and the harrowing score of the original classic are completely lacking in this sequel, and with this atmosphere in the original came the horror that was so brilliantly portrayed in the original classic, but which is sadly absent in the sequel.

First, it should be noted that the plot for this movie is not a half bad idea, but the plot is so poorly exectuted and misdirected. Frankly, I could not believe that the same director (Tobe Hooper) who had directed the orginal "TCM" had also directed "TCM 2". "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" is about a man named "Lefty", played by Dennis Hopper, who basically wants revenge for the murder of his brother, Franklin, and the horror perpetrated upon his sister, Sally, who are both characters from the original classic...not a bad idea really, but what "TCM 2" represents a sequel that basically trashes the character and nature of its predecessor.

"TCM 2" is not a pure horror movie by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, "TCM 2" is a horror-comedy, but a poorly concocted one at that. The viewer is left with the rhetorical question of why Hooper would want to follow up one of the top ten horror movies of all-time with a stinker like this???? Perhaps, Hooper knew that he could not reproduce the horror of the original, and he just wanted to cash in on the success of the original classic. Whatever the reason, it's clear that Hooper did not take the sequel very seriously. This is clear from the opening death scene which is over-the-top and ridiculous. Aside from that, what on Earth did Hooper do to Leatherface?? What's with the romantic connection he has with Stretch??? This is just a little bit unlike the Leatherface I came to know and love in the original "TCM". In this sequel, Leatherface is reduced to a panzy with emotions and not the sadistic and ruthless killer from the original, at least not to the extent of the original.

It's fair to say that "TCM 2" focuses on some dark and crude comedic elements and not horror, at least not unadulterated horror as in the original "TCM". In the original, there were some interesting characters I thought in Franklin, the hitchhiker and the cook. While the cook does come back, his sadistic character is diminished by him trying to crack stupid jokes all the time. Admittedly, the cook was funny in the original, but he seemed more sincere in his actions than in the sequel...the natural element was not there.

Overally, "TCM 2" just does not have the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" feel to it, and this fact clearly brings the sequel down quite a bit. It's understandable for an original to not be as good as the sequel as that rarely happens, but for the sequel to take on an entirely different nature, character and feel as the original is quite unusual. The result is clearly that the viewer, that loved the horrific feel of the original classic, is clearly not going to like the intentionally stupid and crude comedy of the sequel. These movies are clearly two different animals.

The characters in "TCM 2" were clearly lacking in charisma. Leatherface, as I mentioned above, was trashed for a panzy, and his prowess was diminished by the actor who played Leatherface, who did a terrible job. Aside from that, I just thought Leatherface just looked more pedestrian in appearance than he did in the original. Lefty's character left (no pun intended) a lot to be desired as well. In fact, this was probably Dennis Hopper's worst performance of his career. The three chainsaw weapons that Lefty dawned towards the end of the movie was a ridiculous idea and indicative of the over-the-top and extreme style of this totally lame horror-comedy. Is horror-comedy even the right term though to describe this stupidity? I am not sure that it is because there is really nothing horrifying about this movie...it's not scary, there is no terror, but there is some lame comedy and plenty of stupidity to go around in this sequel. Tom Savini did do the special effects in this movie, but I thought it was the least of his efforts in his legendary career.

All of these flaws lead to a very disappointing sequel to one of the greatest horror movies of all-time. To be perfectly frank, I could not wait until this movie was over. It was boring, awful and painful to watch...a plain and simple disaster of epic proportions. To use the cook's words, "it was the shame"...a shame it was alright for any serious horror movie fan to have to endure. Not even Tom Savini's special effects can save this garbage. "TCM 2" gets ZERO stars as this movie has nothing to offer the horror genre whatsoever.

2 out of 5 stars Things are bigger in texas..............2007-08-16

There's an old saying, "Things are bigger in Texas". I remember an old joke about a guy who goes into a bar, falls into a swimming pool and screams "Don't Flush!!!"... Well Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is a joke too, but certainly not a funny one. TCM2 is definitely bigger than the first one, but it's just a bigger pile of crap.

I saw the first one a long time ago, but to tell you the truth I don't really remember it. I do remember not liking it. This movie was on ONDEMAND for free so I figured I'd catch it and boy was it bad. I always look for two things in Horror movies. One, is it well made? Two, are the death sequences believeable? And for this review I'm adding a new third part called....What the heck?

First off, this movie is well made. You can tell his budget for this movie was much bigger. The death sequences are pretty elaborate and Tom Savini does a great job on the special effects. The acting leaves something to be desired however. The main girl is just missing something. When she is yelling at leatherface to "Stop, Oh God Stop" it makes you laugh. I'm sure whoever wrote the script has to share some of the blame but still. Dennis Hopper is alright though I've never really liked his acting. He seems to me to just be a little over the top no matter what he is in. Oh yeah, Leatherfaces dumb brother or whatever he is, isn't funny.... 'nuff said.

The death sequences are pretty disturbing. This isn't you normal stab the dumb teenager with a knife movie. When the fellow DJ is getting whacked in the head and he starts twitching it makes you want to hit the stop button. Sure these movies are supposed to be disturbing, but sometimes they cross the line. My opinion I guess, but they are pretty gross. There's more about the death sequences but that's in the What the Heck section?

**New*** What the heck section?

What the heck is wrong with the radio station? Why don't they just hang up on the callers at the beginning. I don't own a radio station but I imagine they get obnoxious phone calls all the time from listeners. So why would they have the phones rigged so that the other person has to hang up?

What the heck is wrong with the kids driving the car? Why don't they just hit the breaks instead of driving next to that truck going "90 mph". I mean yeah they might be scared but in that two minutes driving next to the truck they'd get some common sense...

What the heck type of truck can do 90mph in reverse? (I know thats a bad sentence but it's got to fit into the what the heck section). That is just ridiculous.

What the heck is wrong with Dennis Hoppers character? One minute he is asking for help from that cop and the next he's playing that tough guy role with the main girl. And why would he not believe her? I mean he's a little of his rocker too, why would he turn her away like that?

What the heck is Dennis Hoppers character doing buying chainsaws? Why doesn't he stack up on machine guns? The chainsaw is such an ineffective weapon. Maybe it's supposed to be symbolic or something but I mean... once again, this city cowboy has fallen off his mechanical bull one to many times.

I could go on but hey.... I think I've made my point. Oh by the way, that section is just the first 15 minutes of the movie.

The first TCM is messed up but it has camp value. This one is just a higher budgeted less good movie. If you want a great TCm then see the one with Jessica Biel. It is definitely the best one out of the series. It's safe to say if I had a truck, I would certainly gear it in such a way that it could 90 mph in reverse, JUST TO GET AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars.......2007-08-11

This is a really hard film to review. The reason being is that this in no way even comes close to the brilliance of the first film, but is still a lot better then most other 80's slashers.

One of the leads "Lefty", is played by the famous Dennis Hopper. Oddly enough, I feel he gives the worst performance out of the whole cast, and seeing him in that (way too small) cowboy outfit is one of the funniest, and strangest things I've ever seen.
The man that plays "Leatherface" is obviously a lot smaller then Gunnar Hanson and it definitely effects the feel of the film. Not to mention he actually has feelings in this one, and dispite multiple chances to knock off the protaginist, he somehow refrains from chopping her up into little pieces (WTF!!!!!). He also swings the chainsaw over his head like an freakin idiot.
This movie also has comedic elements, that in my opinion do not fit the classic, disturbing, Texas Chainsaw feel in any way.

Now that I've gotten MOST of the bad things about this film out of the way, I will talk about the good things.

The obvious thing this movie has going for it are the special effects done by the one and only, Tom Savini. Which are to say the least, extremely impressive. There is a fair amount of gore in this one, but the most impressive effects are the set pieces (body parts, skin laying around, bodies of past victims, ect).
The lead character "Stretch" is definitely a sight for sore eyes! She has thighs of steel, and I did not mind looking at her throughout the duration of the film, at all!!!

The first time I watched this, I dismissed it as a disgrace to the series, but the second time around, I actually enjoyed it more than most slashers made around this time period, and felt I was a little hard on it.

Overall, if your expecting the brutal realism of the first film, you will be extremely dissapointed, but if your just lookin for a fun, cheesy, 80's flick, you will most likely find this one, at the very least, an enjoyable film to watch.

5 out of 5 stars LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAWMASSACRE III (1990).......2007-08-26

In 1990, a third installment to THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE was filmed and released, allowing Leatherface to continue to do what he does best: torturing, killing, and scaring the living hell out of his victims.

MICHELLE (played by Kate Hodge) and RYAN (played by William Butler) are on a cross country trip from Florida to California, returning a car. However the trip takes a terrifying turn as the pair witness a series of bizarre events. Firstly, in the darkness of night, the pair get held up by traffic, due to the grisly discovery of corpses nearby. Then, stopping off for gas at a gas station, they experience a crazed man shoot a cowboy, who advises them on what road to take. Soon after a road collision they are stranded in the middle of nowhere, though not alone; the chainsaw welding maniac LEATHERFACE (played by R.A. Mihailoff) is soon in full swing, as the pair run for their lives. Michelle soon stumbles into the killer's home, where she is held captive and experiences the gruesome, dysfunctional insanity of a cannibal family, including TEX SAWYER (played by Viggo Mortensen), MAMA SAWYER (played by Miriam Byrd-Nethery), & ALFREDO SAWYER (played by Tom Everett).

Although, not directed by Tobe Hooper this time around, LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III, is an amazing sequel, and just as scary and gory as THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE & THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2.

1 out of 5 stars A forgettable movie-watching experience........2007-08-21

Completing my reviews on the "TCM" sequels, I end with "Leatherface- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III". To say that I was disappointed in this flick would not be entirely true. After having watched the complete mess that is "TCM 2", I was actually expecting something even worse in "Leatherface" but, alas, that is not the case. Now, don't get me wrong because "Leatherface" is not a good horror movie by any stretch of the imagination, but, at least, the makers of "Leatherface" tried to take a more serious approach with this movie than Hooper did with "TCM 2". Still, that being said, "Leatherface" suffers from many of the same flaws of "TCM 2". For instance, once again, there is too much lame comedy and generalized stupidity going on in this movie for my taste. The characters in "Leatherface" come off looking like fools and Leatherface's prowess as a horror movie villain is once again severely diminished by this lame attempt at comedy. However, this is clearly, at least to some extent, what the makers of "Leatherface" were after, although not to the extent that "TCM 2" was as I stated above.

In all honesty, "Leatherface" suffers from a lack of the original "TCM feel" as I like to call it, that atmosphere in the original classic that made the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" great. None of the sequels are able (it may be more accurate that they don't even try) to recapture that "TCM feel" from the original classic, and this hurts the legitimacy of the "TCM" sequels as serious horror movies. Of course, the devil's advocate would say that the sequels are going in a different direction, trying to be original, or the comedy is what makes it good, but I say BALONEY!! The way I see it is if I liked the original so much, I would want to see more of the same out of the sequels, then why would I be happy viewing this comedy garbage?? Sure, there was some comedy in the original, but it was natural dark humor coming from how horrible and degenerate these villains were as human beings, and not from this intentionally stupid and over the top low-class humor that we unfortunately have in "TCM 2" and "Leatherface".

At any rate, the major criticism remains that the sequels, including "Leatherface", do NOT have the original "TCM-feel", the sequels do not take themselves seriously enough, and Leatherface has turned into something of a wimp to put it nicely, although I will say that "Leatherface" does make a small attempt to repair Leatherface's prowess as a horror movie villain at least to some extent, but not very successfully.

The plot in "Leatherface" is not bad per se, but is rather poorly executed which is very typical for a poorly acted (although not horrible acting) flick such as this. Basically, "Leatherface" is about two people who are driving from California to Florida, and in Texas, they fall into this clever roadside trap concocted by these brainless wonders of the Sawyer family where they begin a struggle for their very lives. On paper, that does not sound too bad at all, but in execution, this movie leaves a lot to be desired. This is mainly the result of poor/unconvincing acting, but that does not tell the whole story here.

Indeed, "Leatherface" does start out with a serious attempt to make a horror movie, and there are some slasher elements (albeit quite generic) to this movie and more so than in any of the series' predecessors. While it is true that "Leatherface" is not a pure slasher in the pure sense of the term because of its very nature, it still somehow comes across as very artificial in this regard, a mindless and lifeless hack 'em up type movie completely devoid of any ability to evoke horror in any kind of a seasoned horror movie audience.

Leatherface and the Sawyer family are clearly not as convincing killers as we have in the original classic...not even close, but what is even more glaring is the lack of any attempt to create a horror movie-like atmosphere, which was so essential to the original's success.

To be perfectly frank, "Leatherface" does come across as a rather generic attempt at a slasher with chainsaws. However, the main problem is that the unique quality of the original "TCM" is completely missing, and the atmosphere of the original is likewise nonexistent. This fact, along with inferior acting, poor execution, lackluster screenplay, horrible directing, and unconvincing special effects all make "Leatherface" into an overall very forgettable movie-watching experience.

The bottom line is that "Leatherface" much like "TCM 2" represents a lifeless attempt at recreating any semblance of horror that even remotely resembles the brilliance of the original classic known as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". In short, I'd skip the sequels altogether...you won't be missing much I can assure you.

4 out of 5 stars blood and comedy.......2007-06-12

this film is cheesy, stupid, mostly bad acting and worth purchasing if your a true fan of the genre! I love the black actor in this film, he was also great in the original "dawn of the dead" of the late 70's. some of the best cheesy one liners in horror film history are in this flick. i give this one 4 stars. so if you love "the texas chainsaw massacre" and love horror films, i say spark up a bowl and enjoy the film!

2 out of 5 stars Not Bad, Not Good.......2007-01-14

First of all, you'd think a movie called Leatherface would tell us something about Leatherface, but it's just something used to sell the movie. Now that that's out of the way I'll say this: I don't think I've seen less happen in a 90 minutes movie. Honestly, the series of events that take place in this movie only goes by so fast because nothing much happens. That said, this is A VAST IMPROVEMENT OVER TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2. They didn't yank our chains trying to make this into some goofball comedy, and rightfully so, Tobe Hooper wasn't even realistically considered to direcy. Unfortunately, no one really was, not even the director, Jeff Bur, who's vision was stripped of all its gorey glory. Like he says in the short documentary on this disc, The movie is called Leatherface - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, so what are people surprised about? Particularly the MPAA, who seem to live for the ruin of directors making studio horror films. Well, fortunately this is New Line we're talking about here, and just like they did with their Jason Goes to Hell DVD, they give us the R-Rated version that saves us the trouble of looking away from the gorey parts, and the Unrated Version that actually does make us look away. Too bad the movie just isn't good. It's not bad either. I put it right in the middle because of the strong comeback it makes from TCM 2, but it really just doesn't grab the audience's attention. Not even Viggo Mortenson's unknown roll in the movie really does anything for the movie, but I do recommend this to horror fans, or TCM fans. The DVD is nice, with a 30+ minute documentary that's very honest about the making of the movie and the frustration faced by the director. There's a commentary as well, with deleted scenes, and alternate ending, and trailers.

1 out of 5 stars 0 STARS: Very unconvincing........2007-08-08

While watching "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre- The Next Generation", it became apparent to me very early on that this movie just did not have the "TCM" feel to it at all. The atmosphere was not there, and the result was an artificial movie that just never got off the ground. Moreover, the acting was unconvincing (to put it kindly), especially Matthew McConnahay, who was poorly casted in his role, although he did try to pull it off. Because the movie was so poorly casted, the execution was terrible. The result is a generic movie that is lackluster and subpar in quality. "TCM-The Next Generation" lacks spirit, heart and charisma...it has no character and is deficient in every conceivable area. A very sad and disappointing addition to the series that has taken a nose-dive since the original classic.
