Description

The Ultimate Scream Collection includes SCREAM: After a series of mysterious deaths, a seemingly peaceful community becomes a place where no one is safe . . . and everyone is suspect! SCREAM 2: Away at college, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell -- SCREAM, 54) thought she'd finally put the shocking murders that shattered her life behind her . . . until a copycat killer begins acting out a real-life sequel! SCREAM 3: While Sidney Prescott (Campbell) lives in safely guarded seclusion, bodies begin dropping around the Hollywood set of STAB 3, the latest movie sequel based on the gruesome Woodsboro killings!

When Randy the video geek rattles off the rules of surviving a horror movie in Wes Craven's Scream, he speaks for a generation of filmgoers who are all too aware of slasher movie clichés. Playfully scripted by Kevin Williamson with a self-aware wink and more than a few nods to its grandfathers (from Psycho to Halloween to the Friday the 13th dynasty), Scream skewers teen horror conventions with loving reverence while re-creating them in a modern, movie-savvy context. And so goes the series, which continues the satirical spoofing by tackling (what else?) sequels while sustaining its own self-contained mythology. Catty reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) turns grisly murders into lurid bestsellers, a cult of killer wannabes continues to hunt spunky psycho-survivor Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) for their 15 minutes of fame, and a cheesy movie series (Stab) develops within the movie series.

Scream remains the high point of the series--a fresh take on a genre long since collapsed into routine, but Scream 2 spoofs itself with witty humor ("Why would anyone want to do that? Sequels suck!" opines college film student Randy), and delights with more elaborate set pieces and all-new rules for surviving a horror movie sequel. The endangered veterans of the original film reunite one last time for Scream 3, which plays out on the movie set of Stab 3. (It's a trilogy within a trilogy!) With Williamson gone, replacement screenwriter Ehran Kruger tries to mine the formula one more time. It's a little tired by now, and pale imitations (Urban Legend, I Know What You Did Last Summer) have further drained the zeitgeist, but the film bubbles with bright humor, and director Craven is stylistically at the top of his game. As a trilogy, it remains both the most consistently entertaining and self-aware horror series ever made. --Sean Axmaker

it arrived in a timely manner and played well.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Scream Collection...well, almost........2006-12-24

The movies in this box set are enticing and highly enjoyable. Plus, the bonus features on each disc are awesome. I just want to point out one thing. The fourth disc's dvd-rom material is a major let down. It operates on the PC Friendly program and I can't get it to work. The dvd-rom features do look nice, but I haven't been able to get access to them yet. This isn't just my occurrence, I've seen this posted all over the internet. This isn't enough to bring the whole collection down to four stars, though. Thus it is almost the ultimate Scream collection.

3 out of 5 stars Great disc: disappointing film. .......2006-06-21

I had purchased Scream 3 as part of the Box set of Scream films. Although the actual disc presentation and extras are exceptional, to me the film let me down.

The premise is intriguing: that there are more mysteries and unanswered questions surrounding the life and death of Maureen Prescott that even her daughter, Sidney, didn't know about. But somehow the plot premise that Maureen was a B movie actress in horror films seems so out of left field it really doesn't go well with the rest of what has happened in the previous films.

There are some excellent scenes and acting in the film. The most haunting being Sidney's visit to the movie set and seeing the exact replica of her and Stu's home from Woodsboro and viewing the scene of Tatum's demise. The opening sequence is also well done, but not as good as the other two. Parker Posey does steal the film as Jennifer Jolie and Neve Campbell is always good as Sidney Prescott.

An early sequence where a member of a class that Gale Weathers is lecturing asks her if after all the terror that has occured, it was really worth going after the story. That to me would've been a starting point to a similar but different plot.

My plot would consist of this: There is a third film being done in the Stab series, but they would actually shoot in the town of Woodsboro, which has the community up in arms. The attacks by the killer would be directed at the cast, but instead of just pictures of Maureen Prescott: the killer would leave pictures of all the victims starting with Maureen or maybe Casey Becker(Drew Barrymore). There would be another reporter but their story would cover the human element of the story, interviewing family members of the victims. As the body count mounts, a secret would be revealed about the Prescott family and the real reason for all the trouble would be revealed in the final act that would take place at the house where it all started.

I think the First two films are fine book ends, but the third one sticks out like a sore thumb.

5 out of 5 stars SCREAM IS A CLASSIC (SCREAM 4 ?).......2006-06-20

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME
SCREAM 3 IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE
THEN THE FIRST SCREAM
THEN SCREAM 2

IV'E BEEN HEARING ABOUT THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE SCREAM 4 NOW FOR A WHILE,I THINK THEY SHOULD AND MAKE IT THE FINAL CHAPTER.IT WOULD BE COOL IF FINALLY SIDNEY SNAPPED AND SHE TURNED OUT TO BE THE KILLER,I THINK IT WOULD BE A COOL ENDING,
OR HAVE HER MOM COME BACK FROM THE GRAVE.
