The Stephen King Collection, a box set of four films, Graveyard Shift, The Dead Zone, Silver Bullet, and Pet Sematary, is great in that it provides viewers with a full range of King movies, from the truly eerie to the terrible. The set's two finest movies, The Dead Zone, directed by David Cronenberg and starring Christopher Walken, and Pet Sematary--arguably King's finest story adapted to film--both come as Special Collector's Editions, with excellent bonus material, including lengthy interviews with both Stephen King and the directors. Pet Sematary, shot in King's home territory, Maine, tells the story of city slickers Rachel and Louis Creed (Denise Crosby, Dale Midkiff), who move to the country to raise their daughter, Ellen, in peace. They learn that they've relocated onto a trucking thoroughfare, and Ellen consequently loses her pet cat. The plot quickly riffs out into mystical, traumatic territory. Louis's neighbor Jud Crandall takes Louis to ancient Indian burial grounds, where the dead are reanimated. The Creeds's zombie cat sparks this Frankenstein-ian adventure, pitting urban settings against rural, and the horrific against the pastoral. Pet Sematary looks more and more like Hitchcock, thanks to director Mary Lambert's careful attention to detail. The low point in the set is Graveyard Shift, a washed-up story about a cotton factory that's not only infested by carnivorous rats, but also hosts a dragon/pterodactyl. As night-shift employees get continuously munched, Bachman Mills' owner Mr. Warwick is forced to clean up squalid conditions, for which he hires a basement clean-up crew. Crew members are slaughtered as they try to combat their discovered behemoth, and grizzly scenes showing rats, humans, and the beast's head being chewed up in the cotton gin reduce Graveyard Shift to schlock gore. One is reminded of the intricacies involved in adapting books to film. As King has managed to be an integral part of his film projects, there are still successes and failures. All the movies in this set, though, still bear King's trademark, a love for "supernatural deadfall." --Trinie Dalton

Good Collection of King Movies.......2007-03-19
Certainly, my opinion is subjective because I like this sort of fare, silly and all. "Graveyard Shift" is indeed the weakest one, made entertaining by the bad acting of all involved. "Pet Sematary" is also badly acted, though Fred Gwynne is on hand to save much of it. It's one of King's more mean-spirited plots, and if there was humor involved (as the extras purport), I missed most of it. "Silver Bullet" is an odd film, a rather sweet coming-of-age film with a twist. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. (Even Corey Haim was almost tolerable.) And, of course, the special edition of "The Dead Zone" stands way above the rest. Fine acting and direction help secure its place among the best King films. Save it for last...OK, some are silly and mindless, but I like most horror films for that very reason. This collection has the added benefit of a couple of winners. The widescreen transfer is excellent. The price is good. I recommend it...all 4 are true to King, inasmuch as they all take place in Maine.
Two five star movies, one four star movie, and one stinker........2006-10-10
I give five stars for The Dead Zone and Silver Bullet. I give four stars to Pet Semetary. Zero stars go to Graveyard Shift. All in all, it is a good set that is worth the price for three of the films. Just buy it for The Dead Zone, Silver Bullet, and Pet Semetary.

Classic Stephen King collection.......2007-07-30
This is a great collection for any Stephen King fan.
Although I enjoyed "Golden Years", I would have liked it extended. The plot and character development have all the potential to have been made into a two series tv program. That was the only thing stopping me from giving it five stars.
A so so collection........2006-08-10
Here are my thoughts on this DVD collection. Cujo and The Stand are great movies. Thinner and Golden years suck big time. The Langoliers would be great if only it were rereleased with some better special effects (primarily the CGI needs much work). All in all, not a bad collection, but only two out of five movies in the pack are worth keeping. However this is just my point of view, if you like the films in this collection, I would recomend it to you. After all, everyone is different, right. Well, thats my review.
Best Ever.......2006-07-25
Well since I love horror and especially Stephen King, this collection is great!!!
I love all the movies in it and can't wait to collect more!!
I have 13 Stephen King movies so far....
fantastic.......2006-07-09
IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL NIGHT FOR OUR FAMILY. WE HAD READ THE BOOKS AND THE WAY THEY WERE REPRESENTED IN MOVIE FORM WAS EXCEPTIONAL. I WOULD ADVISE A VIEWING OF THESE MOVIES TO EVERYONE.
3 Great Movies, One okay movie, and one piece of garbage.......2005-10-04
First of all, if you don't like long movies steer clear of this set. With the exception of Thinner and Cujo these movies are 4 hours long and up. As far as the contents, this box set has some great movies, Cujo is a classic horror film that caused me to have a phobia of dogs when I was little. The Stand is one of the best (and longest) movies I have ever seen, a classic good vs evil or even the disciples vs Satan. And then there is the Langoliers, a movie that understandably gets different review but I though was brilliant and very well casted. Along these three excellent movies there is Thinner which isn't a bad movie but it's nothing exceptional either, and The Golden Years which is a long long boaring piece of garbage. I have yet to make it through the Golden Years in one sitting without falling asleep so I have no idea how it ends but from other reviews it's just as bad as the rest of the movie. For the money this is a solid buy, especially if you are a Stephen King fan as I am. I do want to know when will the put some of his other great movies in one package. Movies like Needful Things, The Tommyknockers, Storm of the Century, and It? Just a thought!

Great Films, slight disappointment.......2006-09-23
Good price for 3 decent Stephen King films. One catch: DREAMCATCHER is not in Widescreen so I will have to purchase a Widescreen version other than that I shall enjoy this set for years to come.

Description
"LovecraCked! The Movie", the debut feature film from BiFF JUGGERNAUT Productions, is a horror/comedy anthology, inspired in part by influential author H.P. Lovecraft ("Re-Animator"). Following in the tradition of George A. Romero's "Creepshow" and "Tales From The Crypt", the film is an international collaboration of directors from the USA, UK and Sweden, combining over-the-top comedy à la "Monty Python" with bone-chilling horror, to have you clutching your gut one moment and cringing the next.
Plot Synopsis: With tongue planted firmly in cheek, our story follows the exploits of a bumbling investigative journalist as he struggles to discover the truth behind the enigmatic Lovecraft and his mysterious past. Along the way strange and macabre tales play out, pulling the reporter ever deeper into the mystical world of the author. Will the journalist finally prevail or will he end up without a clue as usual? One thing's for sure: the truth is out there... he's just not entirely sure where.

Different Venue for Horror Spoof.......2007-07-30
Presented as an anthology of stories loosely tied together through vignettes featuring an investigative reporter researching the life and writings of horror/fantasy author H. P. Lovecraft, LOVECRACKED! THE MOVIEis sometimes amusing, but often is too hard to follow or falls flat. There are some truly brilliant, wacky pieces throughout the movie, but not enough of them.
I'd tried to watch the movie twice before I finally got through it on the third attempt. Earlier, I figured the problem was me. I was distracted, too tired from work to concentrate, or really in the mood for something that was easy to get into. But I had the same problems the third time through. The movie is so disjointed in places that it's almost like channel-surfing captured on DVD, although the stories all have to do with some aspect of Lovecraft, his work, or his Cthulhu Mythos so as not to be completely disjointed.
The stories featured on the DVD only pay passing homage to Lovecraft's work. Key pieces and conceits were borrowed or cannibalized but the new stories didn't really push into the deep thinking that lay behind those tales. Even though the movie is about Lovecraft, we don't really get to know the author. There's just not enough factual material in the presentation for someone unfamiliar with Lovecraft's fiction to get the paradigm behind the pieces. There was no discussion as to why the writers, actors, and directors show the path they took to create their films.
The parts of the movie that really work are the ones that are over-the-top. I loved the investigative reporter shtick and would often laugh out loud at the actor's antics. He had some really good stuff, and he was great with his expressions and dialogue delivery. He has a good sense of timing.
But there were several stories within the movie that just never connected, not with the rest of the movie and not with the audience. I often found myself scratching my head and wondering what it was I had just seen. Or why I was supposed to care.
Case in point was a story about the guy whose ex-lover sent him a marriage announcement. He grew angry with her and obsessed over what she was doing with her fiancé. So, somehow, he mutated into a Bugboy. He entered a cocoon and managed to metamorphose at the same time she happened to come by to check on him because she was worried about him. This section is shot in black and white, which is effective, but the prosthetic makeup is a complete joke. Plus you don't really care about any of the characters.
Many of Lovecraft's own stories were hard to understand, contained characters the reader could not identify with, and didn't have real endings. Maybe this was a pastiche representing those kinds of stories. Unfortunately, I can't confidently reach that decision based on my viewing.
A lot of people really liked Shaun of the Dead. I didn't. I felt that movie had some highlights that were worth watching, but that it missed the boat on delivering a solid film experience. So maybe it's just me. Maybe the audience that enjoyed that film will enjoy LovecraCked! The Movie. It's watchable but just so very uneven that I believe it will depend on the individual as to whether or not it's enjoyable. But it's worth looking at to find out for yourself.
