Description

A notorious bank robber kills his wife and flees the police, only to be captured by a mysterious group of figures in an abandoned town. His beautiful daughter, Lila Lee (played by the late Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith), receives a letter stating that Lila's father is near death and that he needs to see her.

Sneaking away at night from her minister guardian (EATING RAOUL co-writer Richard Blackburn, who also writes and directs), Lila embarks on a terrifying journey to find her father that leads her to a mansion run by Lemora, a seemingly loving woman who cares for a group of gypsy children and a witch-like servant. Once the terrifying secret of Lemora is revealed, Lila must uncover what happened to her father and fight for dear life as she tries to escape the clutches of the undead! LEMORA: A CHILD'S TALE OF THE SUPERNATURAL, one of the most beloved horror cult classics ever made, makes its home video premiere with this stunning presentation from Synapse Films. 5 out of 5 stars Cheryl Smith makes this movie worth watching!.......2007-06-11

Cheryl Smith makes this movie worth watching!
Although low-budget, this is truly a classic.
It captures the feeling of `stealing innocence'.

4 out of 5 stars Decent little horror film.......2006-10-17

(3.5/5 stars) For the most part, this movie is a very pleasant surprise. It is an unusual little horror movie, in which a young girl, Lila Lee, travels to her hometown in order to see her father. He has been evading authorities since he shot and killed his wife and her lover. Young Lila does not realize that the person holding her father is actually a vampire, who kidnapped him in order to lure the virginal Lila. There are many nice touches along Lila's Red Hiding Hood-like journey that make this film well worth watching, especially for horror fans. Cult favorite Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith is absolutely captivating in her role as Lila, her stoicism subduing (and practically hypnotizing) us throughout. (At twenty years old, she is actually passable as a thirteen year old) Her bus ride would make J.K. Rowling proud. The film takes place during the 1930's, which seems odd, given the film's obviously low budget. They do succeed for the most part, though, and deserve extra credit for trying. There are a few aspects of the film I find distracting, however. Some of the acting is truly bad and amateurish, especially Hy Pike's outlandish overacting as the Bus Driver and Maxine Ballantyne as the Old Woman. Although she does a halfway decent job, she looks far too young to play a decrepit, demented old gal in her phony gray wig. She actually fairs slightly better than most of the crazed loonies, whose make-up unfortunately is very poorly done. Nonetheless, this film is a bizarre and entertaining little movie that satisfies that craving for a lesser known, good horror movie.

4 out of 5 stars A twisted Fairy Tale for Adults.......2006-08-27

I'm very fond of this film, having become aware of it when it used to show on the old channel 9 (WOR TV) in the 70s. Having this beautiful transfer is a genuine pleasure. This is less a horror film than a twisted fairy tale (little girl lost in the woods, kept prisoner in a strange house, with demonic children and a presiding witch figure, who is a vampire). There's a bit of anti-religious feeling to the film, which got it condemned by the Catholic church. What better recommendation is there? Yes, it's low budget, but it's still an excellent little off beat vampire film, with an excellent performance by late cult actress Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith (Chained Heat, anyone).

2 out of 5 stars Oddball child's tale.......2006-08-13

This movie is just weird, not scary, and pretty boring. It is almost like a weirded up story of little red riding hood being chased by a vampire and her little demons. Of course, you have to remember it was made in 1975 and probably did scare children back then. I had to skip chapters just to get through this one! Gave it 2 stars basically for its originality for 1975 standards.

4 out of 5 stars That 70's horror movie look and feel.......2005-11-29

This film is a wonderfully low-budgeted but eerie tale of wood ghouls (formerly vampires) and more vampires, lorded over by the Lizzie Borden/Countess Marya Zaleska (Dracula's Daughter)persona of Lemora. Tricking a young religious girl to come to her home in the woods, in the Lovecraftian-styled town of Asteroth (so she can convert her to vampirism and become her lover), the story conveys the 70's style for coloration, pacing and makeup effects. Memorably creepy performances by the ticket booth operator and the bus driver make for a fun ride. Not for die-hard horror-heads looking for buckets of gore, but for those looking for an atmospheric, unusual take on the vampire genre.
