While it preys on the emotions of grieving parents, Godsend serves up a few minor shocks in an otherwise frightless supernatural thriller. Greg Kinnear and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos are the once-happy couple whose 8-year-old son (Cameron Bright) has been struck and killed by a car. When a fertility and genetics expert (Robert De Niro) offers them an opportunity to resurrect their boy through a secret, illegal cloning procedure, they don't know that the doctor's hidden agenda will have horrifying repercussions when the "new" son passes his eighth birthday and begins having "night terrors" about another boy who'd suffered a similarly unfortunate fate. Any casual viewer will catch the plot twist early, after which Godsend presses its flimsy premise past the breaking point. There are some eerie moments involving the kid (and Bright has effectively disturbing presence), but wretched dialogue and derivative plotting undermine the talented leads, all of whom seem to be slumming in the B-movie cellar. --Jeff Shannon

The only thing you'll scream for is your money back.......2006-11-04
After eagerly anticipating this remake for months, and after a close viewing with careful attention to each plot turn, the only question I was left with was: what?
The Godsend is like a professional baseball player in a little league batting cage. There should be no way to miss. But this clunker misses over and over in spite of its many opportunities to achieve.
It has De Niro. It has an unsettling story line and a good novel as its basis. A dead child, a secluded location, bad dreams and weird science. How can you go wrong with all that?
Somehow, it goes wrong and horribly so. This film falls flat from the beginning regardless of those delicious ingredients. The story itself is muddy and new layers are added regularly without finesse. Tired cliches don't result in the chills they so obviously were meant to inspire. The child, clearly meant to provide spookiness through the mystery of his birth, is far from spooky. You cannot simply paste a blank expression on a boy of eight and expect an audience to recoil. You cannot simply set a scene in a shadowy, sprawling house and expect that atmosphere to carry that scene to the audience.
The Godsend had promise but failed to deliver. If you read the novel and liked it, if you're dying to see a film version, you're better of going back in time. While the 1980 version of the Godsend was not an outright screamer, by the standards of the 2004 adaptation, it's masterful.
good concept, lame movie.......2006-10-25
They could have done a lot better with this whole cloning idea. There were so many other directions the story could have gone which would have made it a great movie, in my opinion. The acting was weak on all sides, no big stars could have saved this plot. It wasn't scary, was not even 'creepy' and lacked suspense. To say it was boring and moved slow doesn't even cover it. It's not even qualified for "So bad it's good" status, it's just plain BAD! Not worthy of a "worst ever" list either. It was not bad in an earth shaking way, it's more of an average, run of the mill, forgetable 'whatever' kind of movie.
(2.5 STARS) Fascinating Premise, Boring Story, and Bad Acting from..........2006-10-23
`Godsend' attempts to capitalize on our vague fear of recent cloning techniques, but sheer predictability and indescribably vapid acting from Robert De Niro undermines what should be a much more insightful and chilling thriller. Surely the topic deserves to be made into a film again, but few things in `Godsend' actually could be called a success that is stimulating intellectually or else.
The story is nothing new, but that is not a problem. For the record it is about newly bereaved husband and wife (played by Greg Kinnear and Rebecca Romijin), to whom a mysterious scientist (Robert De Niro) approaches, offering a chance to resurrect their dead son by a still experimental method. As this is not based on a Michael Crichton novel, the film skips any scientific details as to the method and its plausibility. All we have to do is to see and believe it.
Anyway, things go pretty well for the parents at first, but then they find something awfully wrong with what they thought as `Godsend' - of course they find it - but how they find it is really problematic. I cannot reveal too much about it, not because doing so would spoil your fun, but because you just don't get much fun from the beginning. I hate to say these things in this sarcastic manner, but before the director Nick Hamm (`The Hole' starring Keira Knightley) builds up the atmosphere, it all vanishes into the air with thrill-less acting and suspense-free script.
Not that the film is totally devoid of eerie moments. Thanks to effective acting from Cameron Bright as the named Adam, there are some minor shocks. Because of the decent performances from the Kinnear and Romijin, the portrait of the ordinary family who suffer looks fairly convincing, but, oh, no, please someone tell Mr. Robert De Niro that he doesn't need to work so hard if he got as many as six Oscar nominations in his career (and won two!). His last nomination was back in 1992 for his acting in `Cape Fear' but since then I haven't seen him in a good film that matches his reputation in the 70s and 80s. OK, I loved `Meet the Parents' and `Analyze This' but not its sequels, let alone `Hide and Seek' `Showtime' '15 Minutes' and oh, dear, `The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle.' Someone, please do something before it's too late.
`Godsend' is a typical thriller that comes with the logo of The Lions Gate Films. It is a B-suspense with some redeeming points, but thrills and great acting are not among them.
"Can Adam come out and play?".......2006-07-28
When their son Adam (Bright) is hit by a car and killed Paul & Jessie Duncan (Kinnear & Stamos) are lost in teir greif. That is until they meet Richard Wells (De Niro) who offers them an alternative to grieving...cloning. He promises that he can resurect their son Adam and they can experience his life all over again. Of course they are interested, Jessie moreso than Paul who is a bit sceptical, and they eventually cave in and agree. This uproots their whole life, moving them away from friends and family so that no one can know what they are about to do (beings that it's illegal). The only problem is that as Adam passes the mark of is death he starts to act strangely, and he forms a unique bond with Richard that is starting to weird out Paul.
This movie had so much potential, and with a little tweaking of the script it could have been all it should have been. The fact remains that the scares are few and far in between and the character development is really B-Movie status. There are a few jumps but they are hard to relive, and the ending just falls so short of what it could have been. Robert De Niro is one of the best actors we have, but even he can't save this movie from mediocricy. Cameron Bright is the only actor that gives De Niro a run for his money, chewing up his role perfectly. This kid just looks scary, but he's far better performed in 'Birth' then this. As the film ties itself together your given a really decent plot, predictable maybe, but decent...it's just exicuted poorly.
'Godsend' will not scare you, 'Godsend' will most likely dissapoint you, if not for the reason alone that this could have and should have been so much better!
Horrible.......2006-07-26
I have never taken the time to write a review for a movie before, but for this film it is a necessity. I have never been so appauled by a movie, this movie is very poorly written, instead of making me feel scared, it made me want to vomit! The only reason to buy this movie is to use the disc as a coaster.

Released in 1972 under the international title Panic on the Trans-Siberian Express, this effective horror thriller is now regarded as one of the better European horror films of the 1970s, aided immeasurably by the casting of horror icons Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Set at the turn of the 20th century, the story begins in China when the arrogant British Professor Saxton (played by Lee) boards the Trans-Siberian Express with a mysterious crate containing a body that he claims is the missing link in human evolution. What he doesn't know is that his ancient discovery is still alive--a monster with glowing red eyes that stare into the eyes of its victims, boiling their brains and absorbing their intelligence, turning them into zombies possessed by the creature's evolving personality! Pretty soon even Telly Savalas (as a power-mad Cossack) is raving among the train full of zombies, and it's up to Lee and rival anthropologist Cushing to destroy them... or die! There's a surplus of thrills and chills in this sharp, fast-paced Spanish-British production, made at a time when suspense and clever writing were still valued over graphic gore and special effects. --Jeff Shannon

RUNAWAY RIDE INTO TERROR!.......2007-06-25
One of the underrated gems of classic horror, HORROR EXPRESS is a surprisingly effective chiller that succeeds where many big-budget genre films fail. Headliners Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Telly Savalas guarrantee superlative acting, while the well-handled direction makes the most of the romantic 19th-century trans-Siberian train on which the story unfolds. The plot is simple--anthropologist Lee boxes up a frozen fossil that may be the elusive Missing Link and brings it aboard the eponymous train of the title, where it returns to life and begins preying upon the train's unsuspecting passengers--but blossoms into a many-headed hydra of gothic horror. The script is refreshingly literate, incorporating the fierce rivalry between religion and science that was perhaps even more bitter in the 1800s than it is today, and there soon proves to be even more to Lee's Missing Link than even he suspects. The special effects are perfectly adequate and hold up well, but the relative lack of gore compared to today's splatterfests is another check in this little movie's favor. HORROR EXPRESS is not a Hammer Film, though it should have been, and certainly captures much of Hammer's flavor and style. And at a compact 88 minutes running time, HORROR EXPRESS isn't spread too thin like many other movies. Widely available nowadays in a variety of public domain editions, HORROR EXPRESS is an atmospheric, haunting thriller that should satisfy any fan of classic horror.
Horror Express.......2006-11-26
This is horror cinema! Horror Express is easily one of my all time favourite classic horror films. It has all the hallmarks of greatness. Firstly it stars 2 supremo horror actors, the late great Mr Peter Cushing and the equally brilliant Mr Christopher Lee. Secondly it has a story to die for including, a alien entity that is bought aboard the the Express train frozen in a "missing link" monster. (But frozen not for long!) An evil being that drains the memories of the living through simply staring and hypnotizing its prey, turning them into white eyed corpses. Mouth watering creature and camera effects, man this is one creepy entity. A finale that includes a horde of undead zombies amassing towards a trapped group of passengers on a speeding coal fired locamotive. And much, much more. Oh and lest we forget a strong supporting cast including Telly Savalas. Horror Express quite simply has some of the most memorable and genuinely chilling scenes and imagry of any horror film, period. An absolute horror classic. Don't miss this gem. I've seen it no less than 5 times since I first discovered it a few years back and it never ceases to feel fresh or pack the same powerful punch as the first viewing. This is a very rare feat.

I just recently picked up this DVD (mine was from Gemstone Entertainment). I never heard of it before but noticed it starred Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Telly Savalas and was made in 1972. Although this wasn't a Hammer film it obviously had the aura of a Hammer film, and I love Hammer films. So I picked it up (for a buck, no less!).
Ah, what a pleasant surprise!
How can I best describe "Horror Express"? Okay, imagine if a guy had in his hands the DVDs "The Thing" (Carpenter's version), "Murder on the Orient Express," "Trog," "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (huh?) and a few Hammer films with Lee & Cushing. Got that? Okay, now imagine this dude taking a transporter beam back in time to 1972 and re-appearing with only one DVD, a mixture of all the above films. Can you imagine that? Good, because that's pretty much how "Horror Express" will strike you.
You might be curious as to why I included "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" in the list of films; it's because the score in "Horror Express" will bring to mind that popular Western composition, except that it's a bit more eerie and fitting for a 1972 horror flick.
Another highlight of the film is that it features two incredibly gorgeous redheads: Helga Line, who was 40 years old at the time, and another cutie that was half Helga's age playing a Countess of some sort.
At 88 minutes the film definitely doesn't overstay its welcome, which can be a good thing.
In its time I bet "Horror Express" was cutting-edge horrific entertainment. Today, some of it will strike you as unbelievable (for instance, Lee accepts too quickly the notion that the caveman/fossil is alive and roaming around the train); at other times it will strike you as ridiculous and amusing (it's hard suppressing a giggle here and there, especially when they view dinosaurs through a microscope in the blood of the creature [huh?]). But the film at least takes its subject seriously; it's never campy that's for sure.
If my review piques your interest, don't hesitate to pick up "Horror Express." I'm glad I did. (Besides, how can you go wrong at such an ultra-cheap price?)

This is a movie I always liked and now have got the DVD since this shows it complete like it was at the Theatre.
Excellent story of the alien who uses "hosts" to survive, nice atmosphere of the early 1900's.
The opening and closing credits are fine,no problem here as another reviewer mentioned they were fuzzy ? , its a train at night with titles like the lights of the train and there never were any credits at The End, it just faded to black. Typical of 70's movies.
Great movie to watch on a rainy saturday afternoon.

Description
Ride the Horror Express with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee as turn-of-the-century monster-hunters. In the early 1900s, anthropologist Alexander Saxton (Christopher Lee) unearths in China what he believes to be the scientific find of the new century: the centuries-old frozen body of a gigantic ape-like man, a veritable "missing link." Booking a ticket on the train back to Europe with his crated-up, but still very healthy discovery, he joins an international group of passengers on a nightmarish adventure aboard the Horror Express, including a game of discovery with rival scientist Dr. Wells (Peter Cushing). A relentlessly entertaining cult favorite, "Horror Express" is the best 1970s pairing of genre stalwarts Cushing and Lee, this time as reluctant comrades forced to combat a diabolical creature bent on human destruction.

I watched this and felt ripped off. The audio was terrible. The direction incoherent. The writing... would have been better if someone swallowed a piece of paper and pooped out a script. This is an awful, amateur movie. Just because there is no budget DOES NOT give it the excuse to suck this badly.
Not bad.......2006-05-18
I thought this movie was alright. I felt that the story moved along well and I thought the ending tied in well together...I actually rented this from Blockbuster so I didn't notice the audio problems that some have mentioned. I felt that it was a pretty good flick. Some acting was a little amature, but it all moved well. Not bad for an indie movie.
Pleasant watch.......2006-05-16
In watching this film, I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't what half of these people reviewing it have said. I liked the film. I agree with the fact the the audio towards the end of the film was a little off, but overal for being an independent film, it was watchable. I understood the plot of the movie. The town deputy is trying to find what his past is like and finds a whole lot more than he expected. Watch to find out for yourselves. Give this one a chance, it was a pleasant watch.
The form didn't provide an option for less than one star.............2006-05-16
Let me see.... Bad Script, Bad acting, bad directing, poor editing, Soundtrack like a bad Japanese Western. So what's to like?? This DVD was an effort to recoup a bad investment..... save your $20 for a REAL Charity !!!

This DVD version (Pro-Active Entertainment) is complete garbage. The video transfer is so horrible it looks like it was taken right off a VHS tape. Also, the audio is not in Dolby Surround, but MPEG-2 (which simply means its in two speaker stereo). Avoid this version at all costs. If you want to purchase this movie, buy the version from Lionsgate/Fox which has a superior audio and video transfer. You won't be disappointed!

VAMPIRES, SUBWAYS AND VALENTINE!!.......2007-06-29
I really didn't know what to expect with SHADOW ZONE:THE UNDEAD EXPRESS, the front cover was kind of cheesy, I'd never heard of the title before, still I was willing to give the movie a shot. I was glad I did. SHADOW ZONE opens up with the GRIM REAPER in a graveyard and he has absolutely nothing to do with the story--he is there merely to introduce it!!
ZACH KINCAID is having a rough time. His mom and dad are divorcing and he hasn't quite adjusted to it yet. He's a good kid, but has trouble stretching the truth at times. So much so in fact, his friends, J.T. and GABE, have a hard time looking the other way, especially when this causes trouble for them at school. So when Zach tells them he's met a vampire named VALENTINE in the subway, you can imagine how this goes over.
But Zach really does meet Valentine, an elegant vampire from the turn of the century, who puts Zach under his protection. Valentine, you see, doesn't drink human blood. But Zach doesn't trust him and instead, bolts and boards the first train he sees which is a BIG mistake. It's filled with several nasty vampires who aren't as kind as Valentine.
There are several more twists and turns, saves and frights, giving this a pretty good ride. SHADOW ZONE reminded me of a cross hybrid of MONSTER SQUAD(oh, i love that movie)and the Saturday nite series that used to be on NICK AT NITE years ago, i can't remind the name of it, but a group of kids would sit around a campfire and tell scary stories, I LOVED THAT SERIES!!! Anyway, this movie had that same feel--sweet, scary, funny, good stuff!!
So, check it out!! You'll feel like a kid again on a late Saturday nite again:)

Description
Crossing the sun-scorched desert to Mexico, six misfit convicts find a gold medallion covered with unknown symbols. An Apache holy man tells them of lost Spanish gold, torn from the heart of the Guachapa Mountains centuries ago and guarded by seven Jesuit priests who died and were mummified to protect the Tumacacori treasure forever. Lured by the promise of unimaginable wealth, the group stumbles into the old frontier town at dusk to seek their fortune... but soon discovers that taking the gold won't be so easy. Forced to confront the town's mysterious sheriff and his two deadly deputies, the convicts must also battle the unholy walking dead remains of the town's population -- slaughtered by the seven mummies who are willing to spill anyone's blood to protect their terrifying secret!
Hot cult cast featuring Matt Schulze (Blade, The Transporter), Danny Trejo (From Dusk Till Dawn, The Devil's Rejects), Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever, Murder-Set-Pieces), Billy Wirth (The Lost Boys, Body Snatchers), Billy Drago (The Untouchables, Mysterious Skin), Max Perlich (House on Haunted Hill, Cliffhanger), Martin Kove (Last House on the Left, Death Race 2000), and Andrew Bryniarski (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Rollerball).

Cowboys, Convicts, Zombies, and Gold- Oh, My!.......2007-02-05
7 Mummies is a mix of Con Air, Mummy, and Night of the Living Dead. The plot, without giving too much away, involves a group of prisoners being transported across the desert. The convicts escape, taking a guard hostage, and set out across the treacherous desert trying to get to Mexico. Along the way, the come across a set of clue and a crazy old man- both of which point to a ghost town and more gold than can be spent in several lifetimes. The only caveat is between the ninja mummies, the vampire hookers, and crazy cowboys, there is no guess on just how long they'll be able to live...
This movie really is just a fun, brainless bit of thrill. It could have easily received 5 stars (especially for being a direct to DVD production), but the first 20 minutes of the movie is painfully slow, and the last two minutes feel tacked on. The movie could have benefited from additional editing. I know it is already a short movie- less than 80 minutes, but I would rather have watched a 60 minute version cut a little cleaner--- think Masters of Horror.
Aside from needing a bit more editing, this movie is just a great horror movie, the kind you watch when you want to smile and not think for a while-- definitely not the kind you watch when you really want to be scared.
Recommended for all of those into B horror, and zombie fun.
INVISIBLE ? MUMMIES.......2006-08-25
There are not seven mummies in this movie.
There is not one moment of cohesive script.
The acting is some of the worst I've seen. Shame on Billy Drago and Danny Trejo for getting paid to laugh maniacally.
The editing and camerawork are pitiful.
There is no horror or suspense.
There is NOTHING to recommend about this movie.
AVOID AVOID AVOID.
70-odd minutes of per, unadulterated - "what the hell is this?"!.......2006-05-27
This movie has already been released straight-to-video here and even though I only paid $4.00 to see it - I want my money back! What the hell was it supposed to be about? Where were the 7 mummies? Strewn all over the place, it seems. The storyline/screenplay was bad, the editing was bad, the acting was bad, the action scenes were shocking - some of those punches didn't even connect! And when we finally see one of the mummies, you can actually see the actor's lip/tongue beneath the mask!!
I can find not one redeeming feature and I sat through 70-odd minutes waiting for one! I think it was a good idea (maybe a redeeming feature, but already done so well in 'From Dusk til Dawn') that just did not work.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. It gets one star because I'm really a very generous person.
Can someone please give me back my $4.00 and my 70-odd minutes lost to this piece of ... bleurgh.
Vampires, Ghouls , And Mummies!.......2006-05-02
Thanks to the cast of intersting characters, decent make-up effects, and the story fast pace, the film ends up as a pretty entertaing watch. The movie follows a group of inmates who recently escape transport and now are now on the run towards Mexico. That is until they meet up with an old Apache, who recites a tale of lost gold, where the prisoners natural greed get the best of them and decide to skip out on crossing the border and take up on the promise of wealth and happiness. while seeking out treasure, the inmates come across an old western town where everyone's seemingly dressed as if they're still living in the old west. The group stops at the tavern where they take in a couple whores and drink up some brews before continuing their path for the gold. Much like From Dusk Till Dawn, the towns people in the tavern are revealed to be vampires and ghouls, ready to suck and devour their lives. Could this undead town be the key to the hidden treasure? It seemed like this movie suffered from an identity crises, not knowing whether it was a vampire, zombie, or mummy movie. Regaurdless, it was still a fun watch, mostly due to the cast and decent production values. This is Nick Quested film debut, after working with music videos, which would explain the pointless montages of our actors walking in semi-slow motion with annoying rap music playing in an attempt to expand its 76 minute running time.Filled cliches and predictability, the pencil thin plot is easily forgotten when our leads are mowing down ghouls and vamps with a double-barrow shotgun.Aside from the cast, the only thing the movie had going for it was the decent action, especially when it was time to reveal the mummies which turned out to be karate-choppin robe-wearing priests.Yes, the mummies in this film are not your typical bandaged, slow walking mummies, but instead, ass-kicking martial artists, which force our actors to use more than their guns when it came down to fighting. As dumb as that sounds, it did bump the film's entertainment factor up another notch. The film from other movies, and does not make a whole lot of sense, but when it came down to pacing and entertainment, it was a fun ride. Overall the story is dumb and does not make a lot of sense, but thanks to the cast of familiar faces and intresting characters, with some decent gore, action and make-up effects, the movie ends up being a fairly entertaining horror fair.
