Product Description

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. s classic novel comes to life in this haunting and darkly humorous film from acclaimed director George Roy Hill.Billy Pilgrim (Michael Sacks) is an ordinary World War II soldier with one major exception: he has mysteriously become unstuck in time. Billy goes on an uncontrollable trip back and forth from his birth in New York to life on a distant planet and back again to the horrors of the 1945 fire-bombing of Dresden. This dazzling and thought-provoking drama co-stars Ron Leibman and Valerie Perrine.

Billy Pilgrim (Michael Sacks) has a problem with time: he keeps jumping about in his own life, principally between three key scenes. The "present" is a kind of glowing suburban bliss involving a dutiful wife, large house, and presidency of the local Lions; the "past" is being a prisoner of World War II and experiencing the firebombing of Dresden from the wrong side; the "future" takes place in a glass dome on the planet Tralfamadore, to which Billy has been mysteriously spirited along with the woman of his fantasies (Montana Wildhack, played by Valerie Perrine). It isn't meant to make too much sense, since the point is to represent a man (and a century) that has witnessed things too unbearable for a wholly sane person to make sense of. In fact author Kurt Vonnegut's anguished cry on the insanity of war is one of those completely unfilmable books, so director George Roy Hill gets points even for trying. The whole package is thought provoking in a wholly Vonnegutian way. All this, and Glenn Gould playing Bach as well. --Richard Farr

5 out of 5 stars Most Interesting, Captivating and Thought-Provoking Movie!.......2007-09-15

I just love the movie. More thought-provoking than 2001: A Space Oddessy. Makes one think of Time Travel without the use of Time Machines. Some humourous moments. Excellent Philosophy: Ignore the bad moments and remember the good moments in one's life.

However, one problem, poorly packed, jewel case smashed beyond repair, do not have replacement jewel case.

4 out of 5 stars Okay, but the book is better.......2007-07-13

I usually try to read a book before seeing the movie version. In this case, I'm really glad I did. The movie is ok, but the book is much better. In all fairness, it seems as though it would be difficult to convert this from a novel to a movie.

5 out of 5 stars Master of s.f........2007-07-08

I'm just a fan of the decaesed author kurt Vonnegut jr., and the movie dos him credit.

3 out of 5 stars Adequate...Only Supplemental to the Book.......2007-05-31

Slaughterhouse 5 is not unflimable. Nothing is but just because you can doesn't mean you should. The film translation of Vonnegut's masterpiece is nothing special but certainly no embarrassment. Saying a movie is not awful is hardly an endorsement. Leaves alot of the book out, which is understandable. Changes alot of the book and makes basically the same points, which is not understandable. Why not just leave it as is? Competently acted and cleverly directed in an early 70's low budget minimalist sorta way. The book has a certain snap to it that the movie fails to duplicate.

4 out of 5 stars No where is safe.......2006-11-01

No where is safe...not even a * cute, little abandoned slaughterhouse * on the edge of town. Well, that's what a group of teens thought when they brought their video camera to the slaughterhouse to create a horror movie. Little do they know, the owner of the slaughter house is being thrown off the property, and his insane, snorting son is a major basketcase. Now, I am not a vegetarian, but I love pigs as animals...and there are a couple processing scenes. That is the only drawback. The film is fun and funny. Just stay away from the pigs! Bring on Buddy Bacon! I am beginning to question why I watch these films.

5 out of 5 stars More of a dark comedy than anything.......2006-10-18

Me personally i think this movie rules, but like i said in my title its more of a dark comedy than a horror film. The storyline is about this guy who owns a slaughterhouse that the city is trying to condemn, well him and his 300 pound son (who snorts like a pig instead of talk, and basically is a pig except in human form) decide to get revenge on the ones that are trying to condemn it.In no way is this a tcm ripoff, why is it that if any movie has even a small family that kills people it automatically rips off tcm? Whatever though,i mean if u are looking for a high class horror film that isnt low budget than dont buy this. But if you like independent horror/slasher films that are quite funny as well as semi gory(or if your a sucker for cheesy 80s slasher films) than by all means i reccomend it.

2 out of 5 stars Buddy has an axe to grind...A big axe........2006-06-24

This low budget 80's slasher was so lame, I thought that with a title like Slaughterhouse that maybe it would be gory as hell or that it might be interesting but I was mistaken. The film turned out to be very weak and boring most of the time we just see these typical 80's teens partying and having a good time but none of this mattered and the killer Buddy was rather pathetic overwieght and not even intimidating, he just spends his time with his pigs and wearing a cops uniform while driving all over the place and across the street like a moron and he also makes pig noises!. This film had potential by being a good slasher and comedy film but it wasn't funny or scary, the gore and blood were very unconvincing and looked fake I know what your thinking that most low budget films are like this but this film just wasn't enjoyable and it felt like I wanted to press the fast forward button to get to the good parts which were very few. This is not a good slasher film and I cannot recommend this, two thumbs down.

    5 out of 5 stars 30% fat.......2005-09-23

Oh the Bacon's... Buddy's has a hyigenie problem!!!!! And that ain't all. But after all anyone who sleeps with pigs would have a tendecy to smell. Oh then their is Mr Bacon. One of the last REAL Butcher's. This movie is awsome late night material. There's plenty of humor some gore and some real animal lovers.

    2 out of 5 stars Mediocre.......2005-04-17

Rick Roessler's low-budget and comedic offshoot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one mess of a movie and here's why the plot and storyline really copies TCM with a fat farmer named Buddy who acts like a hog and kills trespassers on his farm or if they mess with his hogs, second the acting seems like these so-called actors are in a High School play and reading their lines off a q-cards,third the special effects are cheap but sometimes decent like the scene where he slashes a teen's face and blood shoots all over a van window. Please do not buy this movie but if you see this at Hollywood video rent it for a laugh or to make fun of. Slaughterhouse is a stinker.

    Description

No one will believe Billy Pilgrim (Michael Sacks) when he says he has come "unstuck in time," reliving in aimless order all the events in his life. Living in seclusion in llium, New York, the timid widower is typing out a letter to the local paper about his time treks when suddenly, he is trapped behind German lines in wintry World War II Belgium. Next he is in his wedding bed with his wealthy weighty bride Valencia (Sharon Gans). Interspersed with his leapfrog adventures in time, Billy also finds himself being transported to and from the distant planet Tralfamadore, whose invisible inhabitants enclose him in a glass dome furnished with Sears Roebuck furniture and a kittenish Hollywood starlet (Valerie Perrine), to whom Billy is expected to make love. This big-budget production of Kurt Vonnegut's best-selling, semi-autographical novel, was shot in Czechoslovakia, Minnesota, and the Universial Studios sound stages, under a shroud of secrecy, with no publicist and little information provided to the press. The devout "Vonnegut cult" of college students feared that the complex, highly-stylizwd 1969 novel would defy screen adaptation. Critics differed on the bizarre, dreamlike film, but none could argue with the movie's message that the world is a collection of moments, "and if we're going to survive, it's up to us to concentrate on the good moments and ignore the bad."

4 out of 5 stars Before Grindhouse, there was this little gem..........2007-08-06

5 years before Tarantino again took/borrowed someone else's concept and ideas and came up with the "Grindhouse" concept, a small low budget film called, "Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun" was shot in early 2002 and in 2005, picked up by the prestigious art house distributor Think Films (Academy award winner "Born into Brothels", the always funny Amy Sederis in "Strangers with Candy" and Terry Gilliam's "Tideland") to little/no fanfare. Tarantino is notoriously known for liberally borrowing ideas for "Resevoir Dogs" ("City on Fire") and referenced Sonny Chiba/Spaghetti Westerns (and "Once Upon a Time in the West") for "Kill Bill 1&2", Having the same problems that the marketing people at The Weinstein Co. did for "Grindhouse", "Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun" was victim to the marketing folks at Think not wanting to market it 70's-style like the way "Grindhouse" and "Black Snake Moan" did a few years later -- as retro-exploitation films. Instead, they marketed "Slaughterhouse..." like a slasher/"Saw" type film which it is far from being. This mislead many people who were expecting super-gore and were either disappointed, upset or felt cheated when they saw the film which is a funky, stylized film that most people actually thought was shot in the early 70's and ThinkFilms slapped on some modern gory cover art which gave people different expectations. This film is far from a gore/fright fest. The filmmakers set out to emulate exactly all those creepy late 60's pre-disco/post-Vietnam psychedelic horror films (that are now pretty disturbing in their "laugh-ability factor" such as; "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" (an obscure classic that Paramount just released after being out-of-print for 20 years), "Last House on the Left", Russ Meyer films and countless stoner horror exploitation films.

The thing about "Slaughterhouse..." is that it fully commits to being a film from that time. However, the problem with "Grindhouse" (while a lot of fun) didn't fully commit....the budget and effects were too over the top/expensive looking for "Planet Terror". No film from that time could afford such constant over-the-top explosions and effects (including makeup effects). Note: Even Romero's original heavy on the gore makeup '78 "Dawn of the Dead was a palty half million budget which was a lot of money for an indie film at the time. Even in "Death Proof" the characters are using cell-phones and self-consciously referring to the film "Vanishing Point" multiple times that influenced them. Clearly Tarantino wanted to make sure the audience either went out and rented those films, or for us movie buffs, jogged our memories of watching these on a Sat afternoon on cable.

So give "Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun" a chance. Don't take it seriously and don't expect to be scared. It's a film that is a stoner art house film that is tries to be unintentionally funny (such as those films it pays homage to) with the actors at times taking themselves too seriously (on purpose) such as the Manson-esque villain Damon Grey. The tough chicks (Violence Onelove and Guilty Karma) are right out of an number of Russ Meyer flicks (and the Bambi/Thumper sequence in "Diamonds are Forever), a great synth score (similar music cues show up in "Planet Terror") and the cheesy America/Bread-esque title song, Illuminated .

It's clear that Tarantino, Rodriguez and Slaughterhouse's Vin Crease tapped into all the same specific resources/zeitgeist as the reference material. True this is Crease's (aka D.C. Mann) first film and Tarantinos first film was an un-releasable comedy -- yet the big guns (Tarantino and Rodriguez) were able to control their marketing and "Slaughterhouse..." again became another victim of the small film being devoured by the big bad marketing wheel who's afraid to take chances on an original concept....

4 out of 5 stars A REAL FUN TREAT FOR HORROR FANS !.......2006-02-26

As a horror film junkie i can't help but have a sweet-tooth for this goofy hoax/homage to great low-budget horror films of the 70's such as'THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT(1972)''SLAUGHTER HOTEL(1973)''DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT(1973)''TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE(1974)''PIGS(1973)''I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE(1977)' & 'THE HILLS HAVE EYES(1977)'. I truly enjoyed this little gem & in my opinion if this film was really made back n tha day it would not only had fit in perfectly it would've stood out as one of the better cult classics of that era with out a doubt! So it seems that Vin Crease n tha gang acomplished exactly what they set out to acomplish & i for one appreciate & applaud them for horror fans makeing a horror movie for horror fans. Excellent film!

1 out of 5 stars oh if i could only give it zero.......2005-10-01

do you remember all those terrible 70s horror movies that made no sense and didn't even attempt coherent plot lines? well the directer of this movie got the bright idea to emulate this long dead(and rightfully so) style. he pawned it off as being a "long lost classic" and concocted some story about vehicular hommicide to explain its lostness. it was really just made last year. this is a terrible rehash of ideas that were terrible to bigin with. its not even humerously bad. its just intentionaly bad. sickenngly boring and the acting is beyond medeocre, and its all done on purpose. its movies like these that make people dislike indipendant film.

2 out of 5 stars Editing & Bad Commentary Ruin This DVD.......2006-05-28

This is basically a compilation of matches taken from a couple of ECW tours with the FMW promotion in Japan. The DVD itself was poorly put together as some of the matches are not shown in its entirety and the commentary is just completely awful as the guys calling the actions don't know much about the ECW wrestlers or the moves as they're mostly there to tell jokes amongst everything else. Plus there are only 5 chapters when there are 8 matches on the DVD. Matches are Sandman vs. Terry Funk vs. Bubba Dudley, Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Mike Awesome & Hido, John Kronis & Ricky Fuji vs. Jado & Gedo, Sabu vs. WING Kanemura vs. One Man Gang, and Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Masato Tatanka. Tajiri vs. Super Crazy, Dudley Boyz vs. Jado & Gedo, Funk & Dreamer & Sandman vs. Mike Awesome, Mr. Ganosuke, WING Kanemura are matches that are clipped and aren't complete.

DVD extras include two matches that don't have english commentary on them...ECW Champion Shane Douglas vs. Tommy Dreamer and Tag Champions Dudley Boyz vs. RVD & Sabu which results in a rare "overseas" title change.

Unless you're a hardcore fan of ECW, I wouldn't waste my time on this because even though the matches are average to good...the way this DVD is put together would piss anyone off.

    5 out of 5 stars great dvd.......2004-02-10

This dvd features many stars of ecw fighting stars of FMW its a rare dvd with good matches

    3 out of 5 stars Interesting matchups.......2003-05-19

Most of the matches are clipped somewhat, but there's still some good action to see. The DVD is only broken down into 5 or 6 chapters so you'll have to fast forward through to see some matches which just shows laziness on the part of it's creators. I gave it 3 stars because of the all star lineup that is involved though. Here's a rundown of the card.

    1. Paul Heyman speech
    2. Buh Buh Ray Dudley vs. The Sandman vs. Terry Funk
    3. Dudley Boyz vs. Jado/Gedo
    4. Terry Funk/The Sandman/Tommy Dreamer vs. Mike "Gladiator" Awesome/Mr. Ganosuke/Yukihiro Kanemura
    5. Dudley Boyz vs. Terry Funk/Tommy Dreamer vs. Mike "Gladiator" Awesome/Hido
    6. John Cronus/Ricky Fuji vs. Jado/Gedo
    7. Tajiri vs. Super Crazy
    8. Sabu vs. One Man Gang vs. Yukihiro Kanemura
    9. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Masato Tanaka

Bonus Matches (done in Japanese commentary)
    1. Rob Van Dam/Sabu vs. Dudley Boyz
    2. Shane Douglas w/Francine vs. Tommy Dreamer

3 out of 5 stars ECW vs. FMW: Good For A Rental..........2002-01-20

FMW: International Slaughterhouse DVD features 11 matches pitting the stars of ECW vs. the stars of FMW. While the billing sounds impressive, the product itself leaves a little to be desired. A majority of the matches are "clipped" with the action being about average to slightly above average. Still wrestling fans who favor hardcore wrestling, ECW or Japanese style hardcore wrestling may still find this DVD worth at least a rental or a borrow.

Here are a rundown of the contents of this DVD:

Your Hosts are "Straight Up" John Watanabe and Dan "The Mouth" Lovranski

    1. Paul Heyman promo extolling the virtues of the work ethic of ECW wrestlers, Japanese wrestlers and the Japanese fans.

    2. Buh Buh Ray Dudley vs. Sandman vs. Terry Funk: 3-way Ladder match. Decent spots and hard action, but nothing overly exciting. 3 stars.

    3. Gedo and Jado vs. the Dudley Boyz (Buh Buh Ray and D'von): Not never really got underway as they brawled to a double DQ within minutes. DUD.

    4. Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer and the Sandman vs. Mike Awesome, WING Kanemura and Mr. Ganosuke: Awesome six-man action. Tons of caning. 4 stars

    5. Hido/Mike Awesome vs. Dudleyz vs. Dreamer/Funk: 3-way tag elimination match. Wild match with all 6 men fighting at the same time. Lots of action. 3 1/2 stars.

    6. John Kronus/Ricky Fuji vs. Jado and Gedo: Short match but tons of nice aerial/martial arts spots 3 ¾ stars.

    7. Tajiri vs. Super Crazy: Short, but decent cruiser action from two of the best. I've seen better from them though. 3 stars.

    8. WING Kanemura vs. One Man Gang vs. Sabu: All-out hardcore 3-way war with tons of tables, chairs and high-flying mayhem. 4 ¼ stars.

    9. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Masato Tanaka: AWESOME match. Hard-hitting, tons of psychology. Awesome work. Best match on the DVD. 5 stars

    10. Post-match Interview with Tanaka in the locker room.

Bonus Match 1: RVD/Sabu vs. Dudleyz: Decent hardcore war. 4 stars

Bonus Match 2: Dreamer vs. Shange Douglas w/Francine: Ditto 4 stars

    THE VERDICT:

Overall, the DVD and matches were fairly mediocre with no matches being really
BAD (except the Dudleyz vs. Jado/Gedo) but again only a few matches are really of noteworthiness (Bigelow/Tanaka and the 6-man tag match). Overall, the best reason to buy the DVD is for the mere novelty of the International/promotional match-ups and not the matches themselves. Still, nonetheless, the DVD (or at least the VHS) is worth a watch if you come across it. It's entertaining enough for an afternoon rental.

    Recommendation to Rent/Borrow

2 out of 5 stars Almost totally Useless.......2001-12-03

All the matches except the main event of Masato Tanaka vs Bam Bam Bigelow were clipped. Most were clipped to the point that it was not even fun to watch. The only thing to save the DVD was the fact that the DVD extras were FULL VERSION matches, unlike ALL other FMW DVDs, even the other one released with this one, The Judgement. These Bonus matches were very cool too: Shane Douglas vs Tommy Dreamer for the ECW Title, and The Dudley Boyz vs Sabu and RVD in a great ECW Tag Title Match.

Buy it for the Bonus Matches, and avoid all other FMW DVDs like I am, as they seem to be clipping everything except the main events of all their DVDs now.

    5 out of 5 stars great movie.......2007-05-11

For first time actors, this is a really good movie. All of the actors put a lot of time and effort into this movie. Plus, I'm really good friends with one of the Actresses. Cssie Daniels really showed a lot of determination and it looked liked she went above and beyond to make her role as Tina very convincing.I wish her lots of luck in her acting carrer.

    2 out of 5 stars Almost Better.......2006-10-15

This movie was okay and almost better. The acting was lacking. Some acted okay. Others sucked. They could have called this movie "Dingbats Running". Being a sucker for a romantic story in the middle of all the slashing, it would have added to the story if the nerd had gotten the girl in the end, instead of becoming just another victim. This movie had potential, but never reached it. Had I rented it, I would never have bought it, yet it was not a total waste, just as acting classes for some in the film would not be a total waste.

    4 out of 5 stars B-bonster at its best.......2006-09-13

The storyline is pretty good. The cast is great looking. If you are a fan a b-monster and indenpendent horror movies, this is the one for you. It has everythig you want - a deformed monster, screaming and surprises. Good movie.

    1 out of 5 stars Crapola.......2006-09-05

      Description

Marty Sickle was accused of murdering a young girl inside the old slaughterhouse where he quietly lived and worked, but Marty was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Soon after, four college kids brutally hung Marty in revenge of the girl's death, but his body was never found. Now legend has it that every year on the anniversary of Marty's death, that if you sit near the spot where he was hung and say a rhyme three times, Marty will come back and kill anyone who steps foot in his slaughterhouse, but nobody has ever tried it UNTIL NOW

2 out of 5 stars Good Start, but Goes Downhill Fast.......2006-08-25

This movie starts out looking like a half-way decent, campy 80's style slasher flick, but it quickly degenerates into a very silly, not-so-scary yawn-a-thon. I give it two stars just because I think the first five minutes were pretty good (all things considered). But the villian is boring and the main characters aren't anybody you'll miss if they get killed. In fact, you'll probably find yourself cheering.

      2 out of 5 stars What Massacre??.......2006-03-06

I won't go into the details of this movie because the Editorial Review Product Discription sums this movie up in a nutshell. As a horror movie fan, when I saw Slaughterhouse and Massacre in the title, I just had to rent this film. Disappointing. You are lead to believe that a really good horror movie awaits you but not so. Another letdown.

1 out of 5 stars WHAT'S GOIN ON. SOMEONE WAS STONED.......2006-01-11

I cannot begin to tell you what's wrong with this movie. It has to be the WORST movie I have ever seen in my life. Forget about a Horror flick. This pathetic attempt doesnt have a genre.
I wouldn't give this movie any stars. It is soooo S**T that a horse with a camera could make a better movie.

OK I am at the movie store and I see this movie titled "sickle" WTF???. the plot looks good and the cover looks decent enough. I go home and chuck it in. First thing is some softcore porn scene which suggest the rating of R. Then we go to a party where 2 lesbo's make out for no reason watsoever. The acting is shoty, i can't believe they call themselves actors. The guy stoner looked like he was stoned the whole time he was on set and stoned the rest of the crew and actors along with himself. Then it goes on and on pointlessy with the worst camera work in history. A Blind horse with one leg could do better camera work. The lighting is pathetic. The slaughterhouse is lit up where you can see everything and the actors use a torch. This movie sucks so much I can't believe I paid $1.30 to rent this movie. Watching, this movie isn't worth S**TING on it's soo bad. there is nooo blood or gore when killing happens ,it is just downright F****D UP. If these people were making a funny joke, they didn't even accomplish that. I wonder how much money they lost on this movie.

PS: THE ACTING,CAMERAWORK,LIGHTING and EFFECTS WERE HALF-A** PIECES OF S**T. I could do a better job with my home camera.

      1 out of 5 stars Lion's Gate,PLEASE!.......2005-08-26

It's a shame any half-wit with cash and a camera can attempt a horror film despite having zero talent. It's also a shame a great company like Lion's Gate are damaging their rep by endorsing this garbage.

      1 out of 5 stars So dumb it's funny........2005-08-24

Very bad movie, boring. The whole party scene in the begining could have been taken out as it was just girls making out. Not scary and had very bad actors. Would not recommend.
