A movie's lasting value can often be measured by its influence in the years and decades following its original release, and on that basis Run Silent, Run Deep is certainly a classic of sorts. It remains one of the seminal World War II submarine pictures, and its intelligent script and tautly executed action are clearly echoed in such later submarine dramas as Das Boot and especially Crimson Tide, which borrows liberally from this 1958 film.

In one of his best and final roles (he appeared in only four films after this), Clark Gable plays a submarine captain without a command, having been saddled with a desk job after his previous ship was destroyed due to his overzealous pursuit of the enemy in dangerous Japanese waters. He finally gets another boat--this time with a vigilant first officer (Burt Lancaster), who stands poised to assume command if Gable puts his crew in unnecessary danger. The tension and mutual respect between these two principled men is superbly written and directed (Robert Wise was just two years away from his triumph with West Side Story), and the crucial inclusion of a strong supporting cast (including Jack Warden and Don Rickles) enhances the movie's compelling authenticity. Based on a novel by former submarine commander Edward L. Under rated movie.............2007-09-16

I have seen this movie many times, and I think it's the often overlooked classic of World War II movies, Gable and Landcaster give splendid performances and the ending is very satisfying.

High Action Under the Sea.......2007-06-28

Lancaster and Gable dynamically teamed up for a superb action yarn about the Pacific Fleet submarine service of WWII. This film has got to rank with the top-ten, all-time classic movies of WWII. The dramatic story line unfolds on a number of captivating levels, not the least of which is the on-going and developing interaction between the Captain of the American submarine (played by Gable) and his Executive Officer (Lancaster). The audience watches with nervous anticipation as the submarine (U.S.S. Nerca) heads for the most dangerous stretch of Japanese controlled ocean, the Bungo Straights in Patrol Area 7, home of the infamous Akikaze-class destroyer which has already killed four other U.S. boats. One of those unfortunate boats was commanded by Gable, who survived the sinking and managed to later convince ComSubPac that he could kill the Akikaze if given the chance to go back to Area 7 in another submarine. The admirals agreed and gave him command of the Nerca, whose captain had been promoted elsewhere. All's not well onboard the Nerca, however, as the boat's executive officer had expected the command would have been given to him. The crew have misgivings about the new Captain, especially when they discover where their sub is headed. The black and white film's durability into the 21st Century is largely a measure of the superb editing of actual ocean-going footage with the stark, cramped sets of the sub's realistic interior. The special effects are nowhere near the quality of today's modern technology, but are remarkable and credible, nonetheless. An exceptional part of this film is the often overlooked, and excellent musical score that strictly supports the suspense and emotion of the story, never overpowering or distracting the viewer, but consistently and unobstrusively carrying the viewer through one dramatic moment after another. There are a number of memorable scenes between Gable and Lancaster that are innately classic, and which would be almost impossible to duplicate should this film ever be remade. It was a tribute to the officers and men of America's "Silent Service" when it was made, and it remains so today.

Run Silent, Run Deep.......2007-06-26

In veteran director Robert Wise's tense, trim "Run," an aging but vigorous Clark Gable plays Richardson with panache and iron determination. Wise creates just the right mood of simmering hostility via some pointed Gable/Lancaster by-play, and various telling incidents with the crew, which includes a young Jack Warden and Brad Dexter. Mounted by Lancaster's own production company, "Run" remains not only a riveting war film, but one of mega-star Gable's last shining moments. Also look for a future comic in the crew--the inimitable Don Rickles!

One of the Top Sub Films of All Time.......2007-06-01

That guy with the mustache (from Crimson Tide), Cary Grant, puts in a great performance heading for the Bungo Straights with a new tactic to take revenge on the Japanese who sank his first submarine, with great supporting cast. One of the top five submarine film, a must for all fans.

Taut and suspense filled........2007-05-29

Very good movie. Tense suspense filled adventure with a very convincing performance by the cast. Technically very realistic too.

This compilation is an absolutely wonderful (and chilling) Pack of documentaries on three of history's most prolific serial killers, or in Gacy's case; mass murderers. The interviews could not be more informative, and they cover childhood until death (except manson, in which case he is interviewed). Manson's interview is a delve into the mind of a true monster, as you can equivocate from watching. I reccommend this set to anyone who would like more information reguarding Dahmer, Gacy, and Manson

Serial Killers.......2006-03-05

If you enjoy this type of DVD, you've got to read "Mind Hunter" by John Douglas (1995). He describes many actual crimes in graphic detail and explains how his unit profiles the offenders from clues. It's amazing. Beware however! After I read "Mind Hunter" I would freak & fear the worst when a loved one was 2 minutes late meeting me!

This item is a good purchase for anyone who is interested in they way serial killers think and act. With segments on Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy and Charles Manson, this set provides a insight into the minds of these serial killers. The criminal profiler segment is very interesting. However, I feel Charles Manson does not fit into the serial killer catagory. I would have rather seen a segment on Ted Bundy or Ed Gein. But it is still an item worth buying.

Cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer and Son-of-Sam serial killer David Berkowitz are two of the most notorious names in the annals of American crime. Dahmer is interviewed by Stone Phillips in prison, and comes across as a little boy who hopes he doesn't get in too much trouble for what he's done. So many unanswered questions...........2007-09-14

Yes, this film doesn't answer the question why? But it's very well acted-esp. by Jeremy Renner. I had hang-ups with this guy as well, very afraid to see the film. I was glad most of the violence was implied. One scene I found interesting was where one of his victims tried to show him some compassion, and he tries to strangle him. A strange thought went thru my mind: if he'd have given anyone the chance, could he have been shown love, or was he too far gone? Every friend I ask this say it was too late, all he cared about was the control. I've seen alot of serial killer movies-I'm fascinated by Dahmer though because his upbringing wasn't exactly out of the ordinary-broken family/home, delved into alcoholism, but his dad tried to reach out to him, and he closed himself off. With as smart and as good-looking as he was, I do have a hard time understanding why he was so ignored. I give this film three stars because it is very well acted, but doesn't answer alot of questions. Rent it before buying it. Buying it first maybe a waste of money for some.

if you buy this movie and expect an actor portraying jeffrey doing every murder hes done, chopping up bodies and eating them, than this is not the movie for you. this movie is more like an psychological insight of dahmer. what he was and why he did what he did(what sparked him to kill). you're gonna see 4 major psychological event in his life. his first murder, detailed insight of the only guy who happened to escape, a flashback why he was the way he was, and one of his plotted attempted murders. thats it. its not going to be a gruesome detailed description of every murder he's done. if you're looking for that than i rather you buy a documentary of jeffrey dahmer rather this dramaticized movie of his life. knowing the director insight of the synapsis of this movie, i think this movie is superb.

not a typical serial killer movie..........2007-02-13

I was actually disappointed in *Dahmer*. I guess I was expecting the life and crimes of Dahmer. I remembered, as a teenager, how it was such a big deal when Dahmer was arrested. So, I was looking forward to a gruesome account of how he had came to be. He was charged on 17 counts of murder. However, he was actually convicted on 15 of them, totally some 937 years in prison.

Instead, like one reviewer put it, this was like "pre-Dahmer" and it certainly felt that way. Plus, not everything in this film was accurate as there was a disclaimer saying so. So, if you're not familiar on Dahmer and his crimes, then you won't know which is true and which isn't.

*Dahmer* paints this serial killer as a lonesome gay chocolate factory worker in Milwaukee. However, Dahmer likes his men to be totally submissive. In order for them to be submissive, he'll have them drugged and then killed.

The problem is that we don't really see how or where he murders them, except 2 of them. We see, in flashbacks, how he seduced his (first?) victim. Then, we see how he seduced Khamtay. Khamtay was the only person who gave suspense in this entire film. You see, Khamtay escaped from Dahmer's apartment and begged for help. However, when the police arrived so did Dahmer, from work. After some smooth talking, the police gave Khamtay back to Dahmer to his death. Last, we see the drama between Dahmer and Rodney. In real life, Rodney is supposed to be Tracy, who was the second and last victim to escape from Dahmer.

However, we do not see that here. Instead, we see that Rodney is interested in Dahmer. Dahmer is interested but conflicted. Every time that Dahmer wanted to kill Rodney, he stopped.

So, we do not really see the real portrayal of Dahmer in this film. Instead, we see flashbacks of his teen years and young adulthood where Dahmer struggled against the authority of his religious father. I guess that is supposed to explain why Dahmer came to be as this serial killer. We see his run-in's with the police but gets away with it every time. We see how he drugged men at the local gay bar and in his apartment. And that's just about it.

Honestly, it was a waste of time. You're better off watching *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre* just to get an idea of what Dahmer might've been like.

Dahmer..............2006-02-26

As a owner of such films such as Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, Gacy and interviews of many natorious serial killers, I must say that Jeff Dahmer is definetly the most DISTURBED serial killer to date. This movie is not a true serial killer flick. It focuses on Jeffery's lifestyle and doesn't truly explain to us the reason this man turned into a ruthless killer. Jeremy Renner does a good job portraying Dahmer in this film. You look at Dahmer and would never suspect that while working in a chocolate factory by day, he was a murderer by night. Dahmer was a loner who would pray on young men, usually dark skinned. We see Dahmer pick up a young man while shopping. Dahmer offers to buy this young man a pair of shoes with an ulterior motive. Dahmer would lure these young men to his apartment by offering then $50 or $100 dollars to pose for pictures for him. Unaware of what lied ahead, these young men would agree and once in the privacy of Dahmer's apartment, he would usually give them a drink which was heavily drugged ultimately rendering his victims helpless. We see him perform a labotomy on one victim. We also see scenes with his father. Dahmer at that time was living with his grandmother and stole a manniquen from a local store which was found by his father and grandmother in his closet. Dahmer's explanation was that it was just fun to have stolen it but we know that the manequin was used by Dahmer so he could sleep with it and fondle it. We see him go to bars where he would drug young men by buying them drinks and slipping in his deadly cocktail drug and take these young men to a back room of the bar to have sex with them while they were knocked out. This is not a bloody, gory film. At one point, we do see Dahmer hack up the body of a young man he has killed. Dahmer would have to get himself intoxicated in order to dismember the bodies. He then puts the body in garbage bags and was on his way to a local dump to dispose of the body when he was pulled over by a policeman who saw him swerving in the road. Dahmer was able to talk his way out of it saying that he was just adjusting his rearview mirror. The policeman saw the garbage bags in the back of Dahmer's vehicle and inquired about them but smooth Dahmer explained that he couldn't sleep and was on his way to the local dump to dispose of trash. The policeman did not search the bags and let Dahmer go. Dahmer was finally caught when one would be victim escaped from Dahmer's apartment and went to local authorities. From that point on the police went to Dahmer's apartment and found a crime scene like no other. There were body parts, a huge drum with 3 torsos in it, and remains of other victims. The smell was awful...and Dahmer was arrested and convicted of killing 17 young men and was sentenced to 957 years in jail. Dahmer does not deny anything and admits to the killings and admits to even eating some of his victims, making him a cannibal. The town of Milwaukee could now breath a sigh of relief. As we all know, 2 years after being in jail for serving a "life" sentence, Dahmer was killed in a bathroom by another inmate. He was beat in the head and pronounced dead upon arrival at the local hospital. This movie is worth renting because you do see the different sides of Jeff Dahmer, a man who could not stop himself from killing.

4 Stars for Slow Depress-O-Rama...Here's why.......2006-01-25

The first thing anyone should know about this film is that it is not entertaining. That may be surprising to hear considering that I'm giving it four stars. Here's why.

This film was made by a production company that has found a niche making straight-to-video serial killer films. Of the films I've seen in the series, this is the way it goes: "Gacy" and "Bundy" are exploitative and entertaining in their guilty pleasure way. "The Hillside Strangler" is even more exploitative, and not for the feint of heart, but has a raw, unapologetic quality to it that almost brings it to the level of the cult classic "Henry: Portrait of Serial Killer". (All of these films, I've noticed, suffer from the filmmakers' seeming inability to realize that they might have something good on their hands. They always pull the story over for cheap, expoitative pitstops when they really don't need to. If made in the seventies or eighties, some of these films may have found a large following, but they're guilty-viewing novelites in the P.C. Aughts.)

Then there's "Dahmer". Faced with these less artistic possibilities, the filmmakers chose the exact opposite approach; a stark, sophisticated psychodrama that takes such a straightforward look at such an incomprehensible personality that it drains the viewer of everything except a creepy, disaffected feeling.

I skimmed some of the negative reviews of this film (I was quite surprised to find 67 reviews) and a central criticism is that you don't gather any new information about Dahmer. That's accurate, to a point. This film is an intense character study. It's not looking to give you information you received from a TV documentary because, quite simply, you already have it. The film is trying to give you an inkling of what it was like to be Jeffrey Dahmer. Can any of us possibly imagine how bizarre and alien such a psychology must be? "Dahmer" attempts to achieve this and succeeds to the inevitable point of leaving us either scratching our head or trying to forget the whole thing. "Dahmer" brings us into the farthest, darkest corner of the human condition. Its as lonely as being buried alive for two hours, without the fear. And about as boring.

The main reason I'm giving this film four stars is that it is, undoubtedly, one of the most unique films I've ever seen. You never know what to make of it. I don't think anyone with any sense of morality wants to feel sympathy for Jeffrey Dahmer. Yet, the filmmakers chose to take such a uncompromising look at their subject that we find ourselves in Dahmer's reality and it is a very ugly place. Dahmer is such an anomalous soul that the viewer can't find any anchor to hold on to. The film reeks with an intense, morose sadness and emptiness. The acting of the central players is subtle and mature. The film concentrates a great deal on the relationship between Dahmer and his father, Lionel (played well by Bruce Davison) and we really get the sense of a parent dealing with a desperate situation that he hasn't even begun to grasp. Dramtatic irony is played up to a crescendo in one unforgetable scene where Lionel Dahmer demands to know the contents of a box which we know contains...

"Dahmer" wants to be a sophisticated film and it is. Anyone looking for blood and guts thrills is going to be disappointed. "Dahmer" doesn't rely on suspense, scary incidental music, or scenes where the killer pops into frame with an evil smile and beheads his victim. The film does detail Dahmer's killings, but it never exploits them for scary thrills.

None of this, unfortunately, adds up to a film that is entertaining. "Dahmer" is so slow that I felt like I'd watched a four hour film. It desperately needed a bit more editing. One of the film's final scenes seems like it literally will not end. "Dahmer" is, in fact, boring without having to be, and it wouldn't need to compromise its vision to be better. This does not take away from the fact that the film is so dedicated to giving the viewer a realistic portrayal of what it was like to walk around in Dahmer's shoes. If you are looking for entertaining Friday night viewing, you are in the wrong place. "Dahmer" is very depressing and makes "Taxi Driver" feel like a trip to Disneyland. If you're not especially interested in this subject matter, or a film student, this is not for you.

Gets a "C" for effort.......2007-04-20

About twenty-seven minutes into this film, and after several exchanged glances of rolling our eyes at each other, my roommate said, "This is the worst movie I've ever seen." And so we went on to something else, and while I didn't think it was the *worst* movie I'd seen, it certainly was swirling around the bottom of the barrel. It worked fairly well as a police procedural - better than *some* larger budgeted movies, television, or cable shows - but the dialogue written to carry the film sounded like a training video, rendering this positive null.

The next day I went back to the movie. There was only an hour left, so I thought I would see it through to the end. Everything was still sub par, but I noticed one thing. This was an earnest attempt to make a good movie. And that set it apart from others that might fall into the category of a B (or F) movie where actors toss out lines to get a buck, and the directors can the film to get their name listed. That wasn't happening here. It was apparent to me that everyone involved really wanted it to work. Everyone was giving their all.

However, an earnest attempt doesn't make a good film, and it still had the same problems. Logic was chief amongst these. For example, a detective, regardless of how new he is to the badge, would never - unless he was looking for a reason to be kicked off the force - agree to meet a potential witness at a gay bar based on a ten second phone call received in the middle of the night. Especially when the detective in question isn't "out". That phone call has red flags all over it. Also, a killer would never - unless they were looking to be caught - use a wash-it-yourself car wash to clean themselves and their clothes of blood from a fresh kill in broad daylight. I mean, seriously. And cops, when pulling someone over who doesn't have plates, proper registration or ID, generally wouldn't ignore a bleeding, obviously drugged out kid in the passenger seat who is mouthing "Help Me" unless they themselves were intoxicated or dumb.

Yet I saw merit. Unlike typical low-budget B films, there were themes present, mainly how a police officer deals with being outed, and the concept of expendable life. But while I appreciated the thematic content, the manner in which it was dealt was unsatisfying. I didn't learn anything new about what it's like to be outed as a cop that I haven't from watching Law & Order or movies that have dealt with the outing of military personnel. (Soldier's Girl comes immediately to mind as a 5-star example.) Some of his fellow cops harassed him, prancing around like, well, fairies, and they beat him to a bloody pulp while their Captain watched from his car with a disapproving look on his face. That perhaps said the most: the Captain wouldn't have anything to do with it.

The serial killer himself isn't a particularly scary guy, but he is probably the best acted character. That is, until the end when they unwisely have him laugh like a raving lunatic (what is it with bad guys laughing at the end of books and movies...I wish that authors and filmmakers would get it into their heads that a laughing villain is not a scary one). The problem I had with the serial killer is that we don't get a motive for him until the very end, and he gives that motive to us. I think it would have made for a more interesting film if his motive had been discovered, or deduced. If he left fingerprints somewhere, they could have done a background check, found that he was ... whatever ... and started to put together a profile. But they didn't have much of a profile, which in itself was odd.

My intention was to give this a one-star review. Then I watched some of the Extras, and let my emotion get the better of me. One of the actors in the film was also a technical advisor, an LA detective. He introduced the film at a screening, and explained that the film was made without a budget, that everyone donated their time and even producers did double or triple duty. When they were finished filming, they had trouble getting it printed because of the gay content. (Which, by the way, is not at all graphic. It's just there.) This detective emphasized how much of the filmmakers hearts went into the film, and that never before had a movie addressed coming out as a cop (I don't know if that's true) and especially the concept of expendable life. That gays or lesbians, if killed, are collateral damage. A coroner had a term for it that escapes me - it was abbreviated C.C. If anyone remembers, put it up as a comment?

Having myself felt that there was an earnest attempt to make a good movie, and then to hear that 7 credit cards financed the making of the film and the rest of the back story, I couldn't help but appreciate their effort more. They truly started with nothing. Not bad for starting with nothing and a trusty Visa.

i toyed with the idea of being a hustler but reneged after seeing this. if you like seeing nekked twinks snuffed & porked, this movie's for you (the red room scene is especially hot). noirish atmospherics, moody soundtrack. this was pretty good save for the bad acting & excessive use of the F word for no apparent effect.

This film had me on the edge of my seat the night that I watched it. It is a great detective story and murder mystery which is gay based. It is unusual in it's own genre and very enjoyable. There is also a good twist in the end of the movie. Highly recommended to anyone that likes a good murder mystery that is also a gay movie.

No Offense, but just because a movie is gay themed does not make it good or worthwhile anymore. The acting is atrocious - really and it looks really cheap. A couple of good nude/sex scenes, but really an exploitative piece of crap. This makes Cruising look tame and masterful.

Exploitative thriller.......2005-09-14

This is a vacuous and sensationalistic film that seemed simply to exploit sex and violence for thrills. Each scene competes with the previous scene for gruesomeness and obscenity, mostly with no discernible point other than titillation.

The plot concerns a gay cop forced out of the closet while investigating a gay serial-killer. Little is left to the imagination as young men are raped, tortured, crucified and dismembered. The ending is bleak and crass.

I wasnt expecting much from these films.I know Bundy played in his hometown when it was released but i think the others went straight to video. This set features 3 Dvd's. Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy and Ed Gein.

Dahmer Review- One man 17 Bodies , 957 Years , His story is finally told. This Dvd stars Jeremy Renner as Jeffrey Dahmer. He gives an excellent performance as a teenage Dahmer and Young man. Dahmer dares to explore the truth of a man many called an abomination of nature. These Dvds are inspired by life events. This dvd will take you into the twisted personal pain that led him to do some of the most extreme cases of human cruelty. This one was well acted but i was hoping for more information at the end. The begining was great, describing Jeffrey's early years but i was hoping they would show where they found the bodies at the end and maybe a bit of the trial. But other than that its good.

Ted Bundy- Charismatic and Handsome but a monster inside. Starring Michael Reilly Burke who does a fantastic job as The young Republican Serial Killer Bundy. I almost believed it was the real Bundy. Bundy was virtually Undetectable and changed the mass murderer profile forever. Step inside the mind of the psychotic madman and ask yourself, if it were to happen again would you seem him coming?

Ed Gein- ''Before there was the term serial killer, there was ''Ed''. This one was horrific. After seeing this video I always wondered why Eddie Gein was considered one of the most gruesome serial killers in history. After all he killed only 2, which wouldn't make him a serial killer since 3 is the lucky number. Just the overall weirdness and the extremes he went to is disturbing. He is a truly unique serial killer. He is the inspiration for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho and other horror movies. The things he did and the extent of his weirdness is unparalleled by most. The story looks back on Ed's Life and contains some real clips from when Ed was caught back in the 1950's. Ed is played by Steve Railsback who gives an excellent and haunting performance as Ed. The mother of Ed, Carrie Snodgress was great as well. Noone will ever forget the True Story Of Ed Gein.

Recomended for True Crime lovers or anyone interested in learning more about their lives, Why they did what they did or
who they were I highly Recomend these DVD'S. Enjoy.

Not Bad At All.......2003-10-11

This movie although at times dragged a bit was very well done. I have seen Chainsaw,Silence and Pshyco and now finally the granddaddy of them all the man who started it Eddy Gein. Steve Railsbacks performance was great. Although not as gory as I expected the story was there and thats what I wanted. Ed Gein will have you at the edge of your seat especially the last half an hour.

THE SHORT: Low budget and unintentionally silly sometimes, this is nonetheless the best telling of the Dahmer story. Forget the sloppy, artsy, woefully miscast early 2000s film "Dahmer"- This is a much more straightforward, accurate version, and with a very true portrayal of the killer.

THE LONG: This is a tough film to review, since several factors need to be taken into account. Let's filter the more judgmental..Ok, are you interested in the facts concerning the serial killer of Jeffrey Dahmer? Can you withstand an independent, low-budget film? Are you objective enough to NOT dislike a film solely due to its lack of stars or professional look?

Well, if you said yes then you should have a mind open enough to handle this one. This film is an almost 100% accurate dramatization of Dahmer's adult life and subsequent murder spree, and is styled as an autobiography. It isn't a glamorized, unrealistic account that unfortunately the theatrical film "Dahmer" (2001) was. The movie begins with Dahmer, played quite convincingly by Carl Crew, sitting in the police car as they raid his apartment. His thoughts of what got him there are presented to us in a past-tense, narrated style that accurately explains much of Dahmer's psychoses and motives which led him to commit murder almost 20 times.

Some of the reviews here say that this actor is too big, Dahmer was really frail, the 2001 Dahmer was more realistic, etc. I just wanted to say that I don't believe that they've researched the case very thoroughly. Dahmer was often thought of as a handsome man, quiet and unassuming yet startlingly strong when he went for the kill. His last intended victim, Tracy Edwards who escaped, told police how surprised he was at Dahmer's mood shifts and sudden strength. Dahmer was a man of duality, and the fact that so many people mention the more recent film "Dahmer" proves to me that not a lot of reviewers know the details of his life and appearance. Having no allegiance to one film over the other and having studied this case and been raised in Wisconsin, I can say with certainty that this film is the most accurate.

We get to know the character, both the devious side as well as the side that came moderately close to living a normal life. It isn't anyone's fault but Dahmer's that 17 people died, but being a criminal psychology student, I was pleased to see more than just his animalistic side represented, truthfully, in this film. You see him having a loving relationship with his grandmother as well as trying to find companionship, but of course we witness the side of him that everyone remembers.

It should be noted that there is little actual onscreen violence, with much of it suggestive in shots such as spattering of blood or a body being struck through a blurred curtain. You do see two deaths that I remember, one being a pretty bloodless throat slash and the other being a man shoved alive into a barrel of acid. While you don't see anything graphic, this cruelty and the convincing acting of both Crew and his victim make this a disturbing scene. And while the actual onscreen mutilation is kept low, you will see the results. There is a prop hand and head or two, but it seems as if this was to disturb the viewer and doesn't look to be exploitive. Besides, these fake anatomical pieces are where the budget limitations are visible. Although acceptable, they look enough like fakes to not be too disturbing.

The film actually concludes before Dahmer's death in 1994, due to the fact that it was released a year or two prior. That's about the only big difference from the real story, and the information that remains is, as I've stated, very true to the facts. The film quality could be better, the dialogue often sounds a little too quiet, and the acting of several characters IS a bit hammy, but it's not overboard (and again, Crew plays Dahmer very well and even uses several of his real-life statements- the filmmakers did their homework.).

In my opinion, this is a flawed but ultimately honest and serious look into one of America's most remembered serial killers. I think it's safe to say the film is memorable as well, and I respect it for overcoming its limitations to deliver the story in a believable manner, aided by a thoroughly excellent Carl Crew as Dahmer.

Anyone who even remotely finds Dahmer fascinating or even inspiring should watch this movie.
I liked it better than the film dahmer. It was more realistic and less hollywood. It does turn on a switch for homo-sexual tenndencies of the late serial killer. Yes, its poor quality, but its one of those films that sticks to your mind and leaves you in an odd mood all day. I would have liked to see more of Jeffrey'ss daily activities, but other than that, see it for yourself.

Decent enough movie..........2005-01-15

The film kept true to most of the facts of the life of Dahmer. Some of the acting was pretty bad, but Carl Crew (Dahmer) did a pretty good job. Most of his "victims" were believeable. However, his mother & parole officer were horrible. Luckily, they're not in the film for long.

Although the ending was a bit over the top as far as correct police procedure, the movie was factual & not too bad. If you're looking for factual over great performance, this movie is for you.

I bought the vhs on ebay and was disappointed. The picture quality stinks. The acting is so bad you actually want to keep watching. For a silly B horror flick i would recommend. But if you are looking for an accurate portrayal of jeff dahmer and his life - this is not it.

now as for books - i strongly recommend reading the shrine of jd by brian masters. he is an unbelievable author and having read nearly every book on the case, this one, by far, blows the others away.

LOW BUDGET DVD THAT'S WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.......2004-08-10

As a HUGE fan of Jeffrey. I purchased this DVD. I was very disappointed with the story, acting, picture quality and sound quality. The story shows the 16 kills. The reasons for me not liking the movie are below.

1. The story is not based on facts. I know a lot of Jeffrey Dahmer. Most the story is fictionalized *AS STATED ON THE DVD CASE*
2. Carl Crew who plays Jeffrey does not look like Jeffrey at all. He's taller and more built. The guy looks like a body builder. He is more vicious than Jeffrey ever was. He makes Jeffrey look like a big monster. Jeffrey was tall, thin, goodlooking and quiet.
3. Most of the movie shows Jeffrey fondling with men. I do know Jeffrey was gay. But this movie shows too much gay interest. It's more of a movie for gay men, then for someone who's interested in Jeffrey's life. I do admit that some of the men are gorgeous.
4. The picture looks like it was made from an old camera that just was working right. The sounds goes in and out.

If you want to see an EXCELLENT Jeffrey Dahmer DVD. I recommend watching the 2002 version called Dahmer. The actor playing Jeffrey (Jeremy Renner) acts and looks kind of like Jeffrey. He plays Jeffrey Dahmer very well. The story is pretty much based on true facts.
