4 out of 5 stars Camp at it's best!.......2007-01-07

Well almost at it's best. This is no Young Frankenstein but still s good way to waste a little time!

1 out of 5 stars These "movies" sucked.......2005-03-11

And yes, pun more or less intended. I finally got a copy today, really against my better judgement, but it was cheap (at a store that shall remain nameless) and two discs so I hoped against hope that it'd be a decent deal. Man, was I wrong! If I knew it'd be this bad you couldn't have GIVEN it to me! I expected it to be low budget but jeez, they must've only used about $100 worth of videotape, instead of using film. The 1996 original was the worst in all respects but at least the sequel kinda had a couple of funny jokes. Still, it'd cut back and forth between being on videotape and digital tape, I guess it was. In both films the stripping was so boring that I'd fast forward through it, but at least the dancers were pretty decent looking for the most part. The acting in both films was atrocious, as were the stupidest, phoniest fight scenes ever, and who the hell was in charge of the sucky music? What was up with that? I know that their budget either didn't allow for using at least some popular music, or else they weren't given permission to, I guess, but the songs (which were all vampire-themed, of course) were just soooo bad, musically.

BTW, is it just me or did anyone else notice the similarity between the ex-priest actor and his chubby friend with long dark hair and full facial hair, Larry, and Kevin Smith and his goateed friend in "Clerks"? Coincidence? You be the judge.

Anyway, if you like fake breasts (though there were some real ones, too), atrocious acting, phony fight scene, gahdawful music and Z-budget films then by all means get this DVD set. It's right up your alley.

5 out of 5 stars Great Vampire Flick.......2004-08-16

This movie has everything you could ask for in a vampire movie from a blood bath with a naked Amber Newman to a blood orgasm with Glori-Anne Gilbert. The strip club scenes had a feel of realism to them. None of that cheesy feeling the director had never been to a strip club and repeats 30 seconds of footage over and over. This two disk set also included a short film Portal:the movie that I found hilarious. One of my favorite parts in the extras is the homage to boobies. There sure were plenty of them to chose from in this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Long Awaited Sequel.......2004-05-27

Finally, a sequel to the "Gone With The Wind of Vampire Stripper Movies"! This movie continues the story that began in "Vamps : Deadly Dreamgirls" which is included as a special bonus. You get to find out if a relationship between an ex-priest and a newly turned vampire stripper can work out. Glori-Anne Gilbert joins the cast as Heather (all grown up and now looking like a professional dancer). Paul Morris returns as Seamus. Guess what, Amber Newman's character who played Randi in the first movie, had a twin sister who is a vampire. Who is not at all pleased her sister is dead. Loaded with hot dancers and they even threw in a plot at no extra charge. Joe Bob Briggs gave 3 1/2 stars out of 4.

    Description

Eight beautiful, sexy sorority girls attempt to brave the night in an abandoned haunted whorehouse. Unbeknown to them, their boyfriends have rigged the house to scare the ladies witless. However, the old house seems to have a mind of its own. Our heroines face a triple-threat; the increasingly more dangerous practical jokes, a psychotic murderer and the brothel itself!

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Classic Eighties Slasher Schlock.......2007-05-07

In the 1980's there was a whole string of slasher flicks that had numerous nubile girls being systematically slaughtered. It is almost a genre un to itself. In that vein this is pretty much the bar.
The plot, for lack of a better name, is that some sorority pledges must spend the night in a haunted house. Several boyfriends have rigged up a few tricks to add to their fright. The house is actually haunted, something never porperly exploited and of course the local head case is going to drop by and add to the body count.
The problems with this are that the girls look a little old for 19. Then again when things go south they're not too bright so I guess they might have been kept back, AND they aren't that cute. Then again maybe that makes them more real. Hair and make up are agressively '80's style-ah the good old days- and not all the deaths are particularly notable. One agressive girl in this pre-Buffy bunch could probably have taken down the nut job and saved the day.

    2 out of 5 stars Forgettable, low-budget 80s horror from Roberta Findlay.......2005-12-28

A lot of directors would qualify as sleaze-meisters, but I only know of one who can actually claim the ignominious honor of being dumped from the adult movie industry. Roberta Findlay's directing resume includes 60s exploitation movies (including the Flesh trilogy), 70s hardcore porn, and a string of low-budget 80s horror movies. Blood Sisters is one of the later films of her career, a cheap slasher that has potential but just doesn't deliver. Coeds, nudity, a haunted bordello - sounds like a slam dunk, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the gals aren't that attractive, there's hardly enough nudity to be titillating, the story moves at a glacial pace, the frights are nonexistent, and the whole thing basically falls flat from the beginning.

Here's the backdrop. As their final initiation test, seven sorority pledges are forced to spend the night in a haunted house - a haunted house of ill repute, to be exact. We know at least two people were murdered there thanks to the opening scene, but supposedly the place is full of ghosts. It's also full of a bunch of rigged scares put together by some fraternity boys. Once the girls arrive, they have to go on a scavenger hunt of sorts all over the dark, spooky house. This goes on for quite awhile, making you wonder if any of these girls are going to die here after all. Finally, though, with little time to spare, our murderer shows up and starts taking the girls out one by one.

Despite the name of the film, there is hardly any blood to speak of. That's not a good thing. Then there's the sometimes horrible over- and under-acting of the unknown cast members, some silly plot points toward the end, the failure to create even the most tepid of suspenseful moods, and a rather predictable ending. All of these combine to make Blood Sisters a fairly disappointing waste of a decent story idea. The dialogue, though, is good for a few chuckles.

3 out of 5 stars "You don't have a father, you know what that's called?...PERVERT!!".......2005-08-23

The previous review explains the story so I won't reiterate. I just bought this mainly because of Joe Bob Briggs' commentary and the fact I've been trying to see this for a number of years. It would have been nice to hear Roberta's commentary but for some reason she didn't do it (I assume she didn't even remember directing it); instead we have an interview with her and Elizabeth Rose which I thought should have been longer.

Most of the film takes place in the house, it would have been nice to see the killer lurking in the backyard, the woods, etc. Gore is non existent; some blood splatter is all we see. I assume the problem was the miniscule budget.

The girls here all have bright red lipstick and fingernail polish which I found unappealing and rather outdated looking; it seems as if Roberta is used to making a film having a 1970s look. It certainly doesn't help. As well, the picture appears really grainy during the dark spots. It looks suitably low budget; Roberta admits she was obsessed with the way it looked rather than the "story", in which the killer has no motive.

Definitely one of the lesser slashers of the 1980s. In the interview it is revealed the "inspiration" behind it was because money was made on the last picture, and she had to "hurry up" to make another film or the government would take most of it (the money).

Also features trailers for Hell High (quite a good slasher), Duck! The Carbine High Massacre, and a couple others.

If you're in the mood for sorority/campus slashers I would recommend The Intiation (1984), Sorority House Massacre, or Final Exam. This is for completists only, the average horror fan will likely want to pass on it.

    2 out of 5 stars Obscure 80's Slaher Trash.......2005-07-31

Sleaze maven Roberta Findlay detoured into horror during the 80's, directing a handful of lacklustre efforts including "The Oracle", "Tenement", "Prime Evil" and "Lurkers". "Blood Sisters" isn't her worst, but that's no recommendation. Findlay's genre work ranges in quality from barely competent right through to dismal and mostly seems to lack any real sense of enthusiasm on her part. Unfortunately, this tends to produce a similar lack of enthusiasm on the part of the audience.

"Blood Sisters" is a case in point. It's a threadbare production, full of anonymous acting "talent" and clichéd situations, which comprehensively fails to capture the atmosphere of any of the better 80's slasher flicks. The premise has potential - sorority girls attempting to stay the night in a haunted bordello as part of their initiation - but what could have been an entertainingly lurid horror film is actually a listless talkfest that's light on the usual cheap thrills slasher fans have come to expect. T&A and bloodshed are minimal and if you're looking for suspense try guessing how many minutes of the film you can sit through before falling asleep. The killer's motivation is vague and there's no real sense of menace - nothing much happens for long stretches, and when it does you don't really know why. You won't be afraid but you will be confused.

The disc contains a brief introduction and an entertaining feature length commentary track by Joe Bob Briggs containing some interesting background information about Findlay's career. There is also a 10-minute "Blood Sisters Reunion" featuring Findlay and actress Elizabeth Rose (goofy nerd sorority girl "Bonnie") being interviewed separately. (Does this actually qualify as a reunion?) Until recently, Findlay has been reticent to discuss her work (probably because of films like this), so fans might find this segment interesting. You'll also find trailers for four other Shriek Show releases. Seek them out, if you dare!

Overall, "Blood Sisters" is an underwhelming viewing experience. Horror and cult movie fans with an interest in Findlay may find this disc enlightening - others might best steer clear. For those seeking 80's sorority girl slasher movies that are actually good, try "The House on Sorority Row' and "The Initiation".

4 out of 5 stars Yes, It could happen.......2004-11-02

After this movie ends, you may say, "Naw, this can't happen." But you will be stuck with the thought that it just might happen this way. The moral of the story for me was not to let peer pressure decide for you what your morals and emotions are. I don't think that they spent too much money making this movie, but it is interesting to watch. And don't turn it off until the very end!

3 out of 5 stars The Title Has Been Changed For This Edition.......2004-09-01

When looking at the extras on the disk, you might notice that the word "Lesbian" was not always part of the title. As you may have seen from other reviews, it's not really part of the movie either.

What we have is bad actor Justin Gorrace (from daytime TV) as The Monk, a mystical champion fighting against evil. He is hired to protect a woman who is not all she seems and becomes enslaved against his will. With the help of his secretary, he does eventually triumph over the evil that has ensnared him.

What really makes this one bad enough to be good is the main character. He is a master of mystic arts and has been fighting evil successfully for ten years. I don't know how he has survived because in this film there isn't anyone that can't beat him up in one way or another (and they do). He is so incompetent that I don't know how he gets out of bed without breaking his neck.

But still, this is a Troma film so there are scantily clad, and sometimes naked, women throughout. The only thing more prevalent is the bad acting. But it is put together in a way that is fun. But if you are looking for lesbian action, pick up a Girls Gone Wild DVD instead.

This is the worst movie I've seen. There is just one short lesbian scene with kissing(...).

5 out of 5 stars "Our chaos is mad poetry".......2006-03-08

In many respects "Two Orphan Vampires" epitomizes the films of Jean Rollin. Its subject matter is Rollin's favorite: murderous but strangely vulnerable vampires. His protagonists are (as usual) two girls--possibly lesbian, certainly vampiric. Furthermore, the film's overall atmosphere, a disquieting blend of elegy and fairy tale, is typical of Rollin's work. Nevertheless, "Two Orphan Vampires" stands out as the great director's finest masterpiece--a poetic gem whose underlying theme is nothing less than the Imagination itself.
Though the film's predacious central characters, Henriette and Louise, are raised in a Catholic orphanage, thence removed to the Parisian mansion of their adoptive father--their actual home is within their own minds. Typically adolescent, the two girls share a secret fantasy world based largely on all the forbidden literature they can borrow or pilfer--fantastic picture books, penny dreadfuls, horrific chapbooks, etc. Absolutely Romantic, they allow their Gothic imagination to enter the real world in a quintessentially Gothic form: they practice vampirism.
Who can blame them? The normal world, as presented by Rollin, is unbearably dismal. Initially it is symbolized by the orphanage's monotony. At the film's close the world contracts to an indifferent, motionless swamp. Given these prospects, along with the apparent death or slumber of God(s), Henriette and Louise declare bloody war against the status quo. Vive L'Imagination! Rollin's idea, expressed through his heroines' actions, couldn't be clearer: "I think I am a vampire; therefore I am a vampire." (My apologies to Descartes.)
Naturally, Henriette and Louise lack a classical vampire's superhuman powers. Though they claim to have night-vision, they use a flashlight to read one of their fantastic books at night. Furthermore, one of their first victims (legendary Brigitte Lahaie) observes that even their vampiric fangs are fake! Their limitations notwithstanding, the two girls manage to bring down a number of victims, usually by well-coordinated surprise attacks. Of course, as their vampirism springs from their inner Romanticism, their relish for blood is quite excessive.
Unfortunately, as the young vampiresses' contempt for the all-too-human world becomes more pronounced, their attacks grow more audacious--which makes their defeat inevitable...
Perfectly cast as the film's title characters, Mlles. Alexandra Pic and Isabelle Teboul are a joy to behold. While each possesses a unique beauty, together they are downright sublime! Combining youthful playfulness with a true longing for adventure; infinitely tender toward each other, while despising everyone else as something akin to sacrificial cattle: Alexandra and Isabelle are at once wonderful and malefic--perfect emblems of Romantic Imagination! Thus they've earned a place among the greatest horror film girls--Ingrid Pitt and Soledad Miranda. And that comparison alone indicates that "Two Orphan Vampires" is as excellent a film as "The Vampire Lovers" or "Vampyros Lesbos"--classics of the genre.

3 out of 5 stars Still scratching my head.......2005-03-17

I had never seen a Jean Rollin film before until I saw this one. I don't quite know what to make of it (that's why I gave it 3 stars). Part of me wants to watch it again and again and another part of me wants to use the damn DVD as a beer coaster. This film appears to be more of an "artsy" type of flick than a vampire movie. The imagery in the movie is pretty good, even though most of it has nothing to do with the "plot" (a plot that is paper thin). To me, the best things about this movie are the main characters (two gorgeous young French girls) and the dialogue. Not that what they are saying is very interesting, but it's the WAY they say it, and the fact that they are speaking French in a pretty sexy way. (That being said, make sure you watch the movie with French audio, not English. The DVD offers English subtitles in case you don't speak French.) Speaking of sexy, there is one pretty good nude scene in which both girls (who are very hot) get naked in front of one another. They also occasionally lick blood from each others necks. All in all, not a great movie, but worth checking out.

5 out of 5 stars one of my favorites.......2004-12-03

i enjoy the films of jean rollin and i find myself watching this one time and again. there's nothing like a rollin's vampire film and i love this one.

    5 out of 5 stars a dreamlike fairy tale.......2004-09-18

This isn't just another horror movie. This film caught me in it's spell of strangeness and beauty. I can't really explain it.
It's childlike, dreamlike, and beautiful. You'll have to watch it for yourself to see what I mean. Best when watched with subtitles. I really loved this film.

3 out of 5 stars Gothic vamp film with a flair for the visual.......2004-04-30

This movie is quite different from the usual Jean Rollin film. There is practically no nudity or blood or softcore eroticism. It is tamer however it is visually more impressive than most of his other works. So those who prefer to watch Rollin films for purpose of atmosphere, elaborate sets and artistic value might find this to be one of his better efforts.

Two blind young women enter "Les Glycines", a religious orphanage in rural France. Apparently, the two lost their sight at a very early age and for no apparent reason. Assigned to the case is Dr. Dennary, an expert eye specialist who seeks to unravel some of the reasons for their condition. Little do the doctor and the nuns in the orphanage know that at night, the two girls can see just fine. At night is when the two girls turn into vampires and sneak out of their bedroom window to scour the orphanage's external surroundings for human blood. After a while, Dr. Dennary and the two orphans will relocate to Paris in an apartment, which suits the two orphans just fine since in the city the streets at night are a haven for fresh blood...

"Two Orphan Vampires" captures a good 70's eurohorror vibe but with a modern look and minus the grainy picture. There is precious little gore effects in this one, besides a sickening scene involving the throat-ripping of a dog in a cemetery. Mostly it's just a few blood capsules dripping down the orphans' necks when they kill a victim. There is only one scene of nudity, where the two orphans (who barely look older than eighteen I might add) bare all at dusk during one of their night crawling expeditions. Despite the absence of nudity and blood (or action, for that matter) what kept my eyes glued to the screen was the amazing sense of atmosphere Rollin created. The scenic shots of rural France and Paris are stunning, filled with ancient architectural pieces, statues, cathedrals, churches, cemeteries, etc. There was a very surrealist feel to this movie, Rollin's sets akin to a painter's art.

The other major reason to watch this film of course is the two leads, first-time actresses Alexandra Pic and Isabelle Teboul. They are the centrepiece of the entire movie, as there are very few other characters in the film. While in no way is their acting great, or even good, these two very attractive young women still managed to ooze presence and sensuality. However the omni-presence of these two young leads cannot hide many of the film's faults, the least of which are the lack of action and slow pacing throughout. There were also many things that simply made no sense; Why does night sometimes look so bright? Why are passer-by's the least bit scared of these two young women before even knowing they're vampires? Why do the streets of Paris look semi-deserted, even during the day? Personally, I chose not to let these things bother me too much and instead focused on Rollin's artistic wizardry and flair for the visual.

So no, "Two Orphan Vampires" doesn't exactly qualify as a masterpiece but to my eyes it was still very entertaining throughout. That was probably in no small part due to the two female leads being developed so well. We spend the entire film with them, and grow a strange attachment to them that makes us want to see everything that happens to them. This kept me entertained despite the slow pace. Though the movie was solid, I got my biggest kick from watching the extras on this disc. The interview portions are the most fascinating. Both the two main actresses are interviewed and then of course there's director Jean Rollin who came across as one of the most energetic and radiating film directors I've ever seen interviewed. A discussion with Rollin is the exact opposite of pulling teeth; ask him a question and he'll talk non-stop for the next 10 minutes or so. His explanations as to why he has decided to tackle vampirism for nearly his entire career were fascinating for a long-time horror fan like me.

    2 out of 5 stars Dull Thriller.......2007-07-18

Don`t be fooled by the creepy cover, this is an awful bad movie with amateurish and unengaging actors including the dull main character.Don`t know why they tempt with "A celluloid nightmare come to life" - this one should never had come to life.,the DVD also has a grainy picture quality.

5 out of 5 stars Very good horror movie.......2007-02-19

When I watched this movie I was totally captured by the way the story was told. I really liked this story and how it was told. This story is about when someone is so "totally" in love with someone, how far will they go. Even after death. It makes you stop and think about what you would do if you found your partner with someone else. I do recommend this movie to anyone that wants to see something close to real life but also taking it to the extreme.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome horror/thriller!.......2005-08-30

I had a chance to see this film at a festival and was absolutely impressed by it. The characters are realistically portrayed, the tension is palpable, the film is beautifully shot on this spooky farm somewhere in the south. And the main character is the most likable and sympathetic serial killer you are likely to meet. All in all I would strongly advise people check this out if you want a tense supernatural thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time!

    2 out of 5 stars CHILLY RECEPTION.......2004-07-29

The credits for this film should tell you what kind of movie you're in for. Laurence Avenet-Bradley plays the doomed corpse and was also the cinematographer; Brian Avenet Bradley wrote and directed; John L. Altom plays John, the redneck and also is the horse wrangler and gaffer. Not that there's anything wrong in double dipping, but in this case, it shows.
While the direction is properly atmospheric at times, there's nothing new--you can see what's coming.
The movie opens with JM bashing his wife's head in with a baseball bat because he caught her with his best friend in bed. For some inexplicable reason, he wants to freeze her, hence the title. They've only been married for a year! Anyway, he puts her on ice and takes her to his sister's farm where their wedding took place. Boyfriend of course will follow later on. At the farm, JM puts his wife in a discarded freezer. He later meets John and his cousin Bud, and soon he encounters John's abused wife, Julie. John is the caretaker for the farm, but you know he's a slimeball. JM keeps having ghostly apparitions of his dead wife, and soon people start finding out what JM did, and so...no spoiler here.
Suffice to say, FREEZ'ER has the worst acting I've seen in some time. Barnes Walker III plays JM like a zombie, turning on his required emotions like a well worn faucet. Carrie Waldron as Julie is equally bad, reminiscent of a teenager in their first community theatre role; and John L. Altom is totally laughable in his role as John.
I'm all for indies, and have truly enjoyed some of them like ANGELS CREST and HOBBS END, but this movie is so bad it's funny, but not funny enough to recommend.

    5 out of 5 stars FREEZ'ER IS A GREAT MOVIE, WATCH IT!.......2002-11-02

First of all, I have to say that this is a Great Movie. It not only held my interest, but it had great thrilling action that keeps you on your toes and a great story, with the ability to grab those scary emotions. The acting was good, the cinematography excellent and the music wonderful. This is a movie that I have added to my video collection and that everyone should go and see. I have to say that some people have more bad luck. Buy and watch the movie you'll love it.

Thanks Brian for the great movie. Hope to see more in the future.

Information from DVD Back Cover: J.M. didn't mean to do it, but in one insane moment he killed his wife. The trouble is he is still in love with her. Unable to cope with what he did, he flees to his sister's desolated farm, the site of his wedding just a year ago. Once there, J.M. makes the haunting realization he is not alone. Someone or something is on his trail; and J.M. has to fight off more than his own demons. Blackmail, killing, betrayal and revenge all stalk J.M. He soon discovers there is no place to hide from murder; or is there?

There's no director like Jean Rollin, the French horror fantasist who mixes the poetry of Jean Cocteau with the emotionless performances of Robert Bresson in his erotic vampire films. Lips of Blood is one of his best, an Oedipal tale of a young man haunted by visions of a forgotten childhood when he spies a poster of a coastal castle at a party. Jean-Louis Philippe, a hopelessly bland and flat performer, wanders through the deserted piazzas and fountains of his suddenly odd and alien hometown, eerily lit up in the dead of night. He's a man lost in a world where a woman in white silently materializes like a supernatural muse, gunmen appear from the inky-black night, and four naked vampire girls prowl the streets for blood and watch over him like dark angels. It's a tale of blood, sex, and haunting desire full of nudity and death and told in an austere, surreal style born of forced budgetary austerity. Rollin is slipshod with his action scenes and stiff with performers, but once he leaves the confines of the "real" world (where he's oddly uncomfortable) his style creates a trancelike mood to complement the beauty of his poetically macabre vision. The film our hero watches early in the picture is Rollin's own Shiver of the Vampires. --Sean Axmaker

      Description

Considered by many to be director Jean Rollin's best work to date. Shot in just three weeks, "Lips of Blood" tells the tale of a young man plagued by visions of a castle and a ghostly woman in white, visions which eventually lead him to a cemetery of female vampires whom he releases into the city of Paris. This explicit, Oedipal fantasy is crammed full of dank dungeons, lesbian sex, coffins and seriously surreal vampires.

Jean Rollin is a name instantly recognizable to hardcore horror fans, yet meaningless to nearly everyone else. This ignorance is quite unfortunate because the French director concocted some of the sleaziest, most unusual films ever made during the 1970s and 1980s, films usually imbued with a disturbing mix of hypereroticism and bloody violence. I have often tossed Rollin's name around in impolite company with seeming aplomb even though I had never seen even one of the man's films. You read enough plot synopses about someone and you start to feel as though you know every intimate detail about their work. What I did hear from others about this director oftentimes did not bode well. He is apparently well versed in schlock filmmaking, which in and of itself is not a problem with me, a true lover of bad cinema, but several of his films continue to draw raves from a selected minority of genre fans. Well, I finally sat down with a Jean Rollin film, his 1979 effort "Fascination," and was pleasantly surprised with the results. As I viewed the film with a growing sense of intrigue, I began mentally composing a list of other films from this director that I should watch in the near future. After watching the phenomenal "Living Dead Girl," I finally stumbled over one of the man's lesser efforts.

"Lips of Blood" introduces us to Frederic, an urbane French guy who looks a lot like a young Richard Wright from Pink Floyd. At a party overflowing with Eurotrash, a small poster depicting a heap of ruins out in the countryside happens to catch his attention. As he stares at the picture, he flashes back to an unusual experience he had at the age of twelve. One night he wandered to the gates of this castle whereupon he encountered an attractive French girl with a Joan of Arc haircut named Jennifer. The two shared a platonic doze but somehow fell in love. After Frederic left the castle, he never saw either the building or the girl again. He forgot all about her until the poster reminded him of that halcyon evening long ago. He immediately confronts his mother, who is also at the party, about the event. She acts strangely about what he says but denies any knowledge of it. Enraged, Frederic begins a quest to discover if what he remembers really happened or if it is all a dream. Sure enough, he begins seeing an apparition of this girl, an apparition that appears and disappears at random. Frederic tries to pry information about the location of the castle from the photographer of the picture in the poster, but to no avail. Will he ever find what he's looking for?

Yes, he does find the place much to the chagrin of his mother and others. It turns out that the whole thing deals with a bunch of nubile vampires locked away for eternity, some in Paris and another one at that castle. Frederic inadvertently lets a few of them out, at which point they begin preying on the inhabitants of Paris. These vampires are not your normal, everyday draped in black pasty-faced blood drinkers. Oh no, these female Dracula types wonder about in diaphanous gowns charming the male population with their wares prior to delivering the fanged coup de grace. Moreover, the girl Frederic remembers plays a greater role in the larger group of vampires. The conclusion to the film constitutes the cheesiest vampire hunt I have ever witnessed. Imagine a bunch of shaggy French guys walking around after female vampires as they clutch stakes. Walking! Not running, not slinking, but walking! The vampires, for their part, are the wimpiest vampires in film history. Instead of exploding into a murderous rage, or at least turning into bats, they shriek with terror when they see these guys carrying stakes and run away. Harrumph, I say! There's a surprise after these scenes that I won't spoil for you except to say it's a bit silly. But silly is this film's middle name.

"Lips of Blood" is a cheap and cheesy piece of enjoyable schlock. If you must absolutely see it no matter what the cost, prepare to be underwhelmed. Most of the film consists of these long, pointless tracking shots of urban slums or the countryside. Rollin films his characters walking or running for what feels like hours. By the way, what's up with Paris? I thought people called this place "The City of Lights." Not in "Lips of Blood," where nearly every cityscape lies clothed in darkness. Maybe the French power workers were on strike the week Rollin made his film. At least the picture quality is good enough to discern what's going on in the dark. And speaking of picture quality, "Lips of Blood" definitely has that distinct Rollin look and feel. It is the sparse atmosphere of this movie, along with the French women, that ultimately turned my frown upside down. Yep, I liked the movie well enough even though almost nothing interesting happened. Whether you like it or not will depend on your tolerance level for slower pacing, cheap set pieces, and ridiculous acting.

Redemption's DVD contains the usual racy introductory footage, a Rollin filmography, and nothing more which is surprising considering the "Fascination" and "Living Dead Girl" discs had stills and trailers. In French the film's title is "Levres de Sang," and while there is a bit of the red stuff on a few pairs of lips, there's not much else to see. Rollin fans will want the disc, but the uninitiated should probably check out "Fascination" and "Living Dead Girl" first to see if this filmmaker is their cup of tea.

3 out of 5 stars Very Little Vampirism.......2003-01-23

If it's fangs and lots of blood-drinking, this is not your film. Most of the vampirism is very understated... the vampire stalks a prey and turns back to camera to feed; that sort of thing. Be warned: the cover art is not taken from the film.

      Levres de Sang/Lips of Blood...
A man recalls an experience as a boy at a castle when he meets a hauntingly beautiful woman. Somehow he's only reminded of this upon seeing a postcard of the castle. He then seeks to track it down, called on by visions of her. His mother tries to stop him, but he eventually is reunited with his pale ageless love.

Rollin later re-edited this film, inserted lots of hardcore porn, and re-released the X version under the title of "Suck me Vampire".

      1 out of 5 stars "Well I'll be a son of a witch"..........2003-12-25

I'm not even gonna bother reviewing this abysmal pile of wretched 5h!+. Instead, I'm gonna praise Paul B's review. Took the words right outta my mouth. Well done.

1 out of 5 stars If only there was an R-rated Mystery Science Theater 3000.......2003-10-16

First, it was refreshing that the "good-guy" occultist's fiance did not perfectly match the "starvation chic" ideal. This film is not scary at all. I realize that this type of film is a thinly-disguised blue movie, but this barely qualified as horror.
Some of the "scary" parts and even some of the naughty bits were unintentionally funny in a MST3000 sort of way.

2 out of 5 stars Blood, Gore and Kathleen St. Lawrence.......2002-06-15

Kathleen St. Lawrence saves this film from being a total bomb. She is a knock-out...the rest of the film does of a good job of knocking itself OUT! It starts with a wake-up call where boyfriend/girlfriend make love in the early morn...he is well groomed and clean-shaven...she's got immaculate make-up...DUH! It's real turn-off...she's fat and ugly, too. It ends with three chicks eating a guy alive out in the woods. Inbetween there's plenty of sim sex. I think Kathleen takes her top off 57 times...but the excitement ends there. Some of the best lines from the film are: "If I ever wake up from this dream, will you please push the snooze button?" HONEST! That is in the script. Near the end of the film, right before the guy gets gobbled up limb by limb, the fat chick from the opening scene asks her boyfriend, "Where are they?" He gives her a quick glance and says..."Where are we?" That sums it up. Push the snooze button and wake up from your nightmare! I must say, it's much better than Witchcraft X...I gave it a 1...this one a 2.

      1 out of 5 stars What Nonsense.......2000-12-02

This is without a doubt the worst movie I have ever seen. I unfortunately bought this movie in an attempt to find a good Horror flick. This film offers some of the worst acting ever, and an extremely poor plot. This movie should not receive any stars at all but unfortunately I have to give it at least one.
