5 out of 5 stars Lost's Piper Perabo.......2007-07-21

I found this movie to be incredibly moving. I understand the struggle of loving someone that cannot be a major part of your life - its incredibly painful. Piper Perabo gave a striking performance.

4 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing (no matter your sexual orientation).......2007-06-17

As a straight married man I found this movie to be so moving as to be heart-rendingly painful. I fully understand Paulie's frustration and rejection. I experienced something similar when I was twenty. My best friend(a girl)and I started to become a lot closer so I told her how I truly felt. Big mistake! The entire relationship unravelled instantly and I made an absolute fool of myself for the next six months trying to "win" her love. I was a neurotic wreck for two years afterwards not letting another woman get that close to me until I eventually met the woman that became my wife (and I thank God for her everyday!).

As a father of two daughters I realize that I can't control who they love, that's up to them. This movie has shown me not to be too judgmental about sexual issues. Like Paulie said - love just is.

I highly recommend this movie as an average straight joe because anyone with a heart that has ever been broken into a million pieces will fully understand this movie and have flashbacks during every heart-tugging scene between Paulie and Tori. Yes,I'm man enough to admit I cried at the end! It hit me that hard and profoundly.

This is not a purely lesbian love story/film by any means. This is a story about love and being loved. It's very powerful to say the least. There have been very few films to ever leave a mark on me, this is definitely one of them.

What an amazing piece of film!

5 out of 5 stars strange..........2007-06-12

Sometimes there's a movie that gives you a feeling that no other movie has ever made you feel. This movie did that for me. I don't know if it was having felt a similar situation, but I felt more empathy towards these characters than I ever have for any in a film.
This movie was beautiful and painful to watch, not because it was bad, but because it made me feel so much for the girls.
I got this feeling that I can't quite name, but this movie struck me as unique and moving, a beautiful piece that I completely recommend.

I wish Misha Barton had a more active part in the affair. Piper is yummy

3 out of 5 stars Saved by the cast.......2007-04-25

This film about various forms of rejection is strange even by Canadian standards. It begins to fall apart about the time the boarding-school lesbian relationship falls apart. By then the writer(s) has resorted to melodramatic use of Shakespeare to demonstrate the crazed intensity of love -- a sign that the writer had exhausted her own resources.

There is a nude scene with the pretty and very-well-endowed Jessica Paré to recommend it to guys, and the school has a bucolic setting. However, the best thing about the film for me are the sightings of some amazing American and Candian actresses early in their careers. Besides Piper Perabo (American) and Jessica Paré (Canadian), the story's central character is played by a very young Mischa Barton -- already a willowy beauty. Also in the cast in a few scenes each are Canadian actresses Emily Van Camp and Caroline Dhavernas (she is especially pretty here, and is already speaking English without an accent).

Before his death, comedian Chris Farley made a pair of surprisingly successful comedies that teamed him with Saturday Night Live colleague David Spade. Their relationship in each film was pretty much the same, but then so was Abbott and Costello's or Laurel and Hardy's (not that Farley and Spade are in their league). In Tommy Boy, Farley plays the ne'er-do-well son of a successful auto parts manufacturer (Brian Dennehy). When Dad drops dead just after marrying a young new wife, it's up to Tommy (aided by sarcastic bean-counter Spade) to rescue the company by taking over for his father. Black Sheep features a slightly different plot: This time, Spade is hired by Farley's brother (Tim Matheson), a candidate for governor, to keep Farley (an accident-prone buffoon) out of sight until after the election. Farley has a likable quality that is exploited by continuous slapstick centered on his clumsiness, both physically and socially. --Marshall Fine

5 out of 5 stars Best Comedy Ever!!!.......2007-08-23

I love this movie from beginning to end. It is my favorite comedy of all time!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2007-08-15

This is one of my favorite movies! :) You can't go wrong with Chris!

5 out of 5 stars awesome!.......2007-06-25

this is the quintescential chris farely movie. all his best stuff rolled into one. he and david spade make a great comedy team. this is a movie you will never grow tired of. you could watch it every groundhog day, arbor day, flag day, boxing day and other holiday's too, and never grow tired of it.

don't bother renting it, you'll just end up buying anyway.
there are so many funny moments; some that require rewinding because you've laughed so hard you missed the following dialog. i laughed myself out of my seat during the deer scene. you will "feel like a horse's patute" if you don't see this movie. this is one of the funniest movie of all time. E! ranked it in the top 30 of funnist movies ever, but i think it deserves a higher rank.

get this along with "the best of chris farley's on SNL ("down by the river," "the nino," chirs farley show, chippendale, etc)" to get the most hilarious moments and scenes of chris. we love you chris! you will continue to make us laugh forever. i will definately be that guy that forces his kids to watch "grown-up humor" movies.

this movie is definately kablamo!

5 out of 5 stars Who Killed the Keg?.......2007-06-13

Tommy Boy Directed by Peter Segal
PG-13 97min.

Who Killed The Keg?

Have you ever seen a movie where you laughed so hard you almost choked on something you eating? Well here's one of those movies. Tommy Boy is a hilarious slapstick comedy featuring some of the besting actors and is directed by Peter Segal. This movie takes place in the U.S. in the 1990's. Tommy Callahan (Chris Farley, Saturday Night Live) just got his diploma after 7 years of college. After returning home Tommy realizes that his dad (Brian Dennehy) is marrying a real hot mama (Bo Derek.) But unexpectedly his father has a heart attack at his wedding. Before you could say "Who killed the keg?" the family auto parts business starts to go downhill and it's about to be sold but Tommy plus his dad's right hand man, Richard (David Spade, Saturday Night Live) volunteer to go on the road and sell the company's merchandise in order to pay off the bank. The only problem.... neither of them know a single thing about sales. If I had a penny for each thing either of them knew about sales I'd be dirt poor. What will happen to the business?

This movie is one of those movies that, makes you laugh until you pee your pants and then you laugh some more. You'll want to watch this movie over and over again. This can be compared to Black Sheep some of Farley and Spade's previous work. This movie is hilarious, has a good plot and is easy to understand. Farley's personality in this movie is hilarious. I have seriously seen this movie at least 100 times and it's still funny. No matter which way this movie turns it's still always funny.

I recommend this movie to 10 and up but because of the PG-13 so only 13 and up might be able to see it. Also comedy lovers should see it because if they don't they don't know what they are missing.

5 out of 5 stars Chris Farley's Best.......2007-04-07

If you don't see this movie and ;laugh their is something wrong with you.

If you dig the whole interaction of a well oiled machine-like crew of witty, bantering guys too young to yet be jaded but playing in grownup world then this is for you. I LOVED the back and forth in the dialogue between the buddies. And they're just the backdrop material. The conversations between everyone were just gutter poetry. Chazz and Christopher are right on the money with everything about themselves that I like to see in a movie. The lead character is in control even when he's OUT of control. There is a smooth flow to this flick that makes me think of the perfect Seven and Seven. Goes down easy and you're glad you ordered it. Had a nice seedy feel to it whenever the action was in the poolhalls. This film makes you wish you could hang out with these characters for just one night.

5 out of 5 stars Pool, A Gay Man's Dream.......2007-09-05

Set by a beautiful pool (probably in California)a group of handsome, extremely well built men show off their hot muscular bodies.
You can see that these men are enjoying themselves (with the other men) and basically want you to enjoy their fully nude (yes, their man-muscle is on display as well)bodies and the water.
Hot, tan, glistening male bodies...this DVD has it all!

1 out of 5 stars Pointless.......2007-08-19

This 'film' is a complete waste of time and money. The models are fine, the production is fine if unimaginative, so what? Boring, boring, boring.

Tom Bianchi is at his best with the filming of the photo book. Any fan of erotic will love this title.

Kipper, a loveable, animated dog with a British accent, is on par with perennial preschool favorites Little Bear and Clifford, humble characters involved in ordinary play while reinforcing messages of cooperation, courtesy, and kindness. Drawn in simple lines with floppy ears, Kipper is the creation of England's Mick Inkpen, a prolific children's author (of Threadbear and Wibbly Pig fame) whose books have inspired a Nick Jr. television series. Pools, Parks and Picnics is a collection of seven episodes from the series, with straightforward names like "The Long Walk," "The Swimming Pool," and "The Picnic." The gentle tales are comfortably paced, accompanied by a soft instrumental soundtrack. In "The Gizmo," a bubble blower and a toy boat provide hours of entertainment for Kipper and his pal, Tiger, during an otherwise quiet day. In "Cakes and Tails," Pig agrees to share his triple chocolate cake with Kipper, until a game of hide-and-seek ends in a plateful of crumbs. A magnifying glass offers an up-close look at the wonders of nature in one episode; in another, a water fountain provides cool relief on a hot summer day. There are no crises and no moral dilemmas here. Rather, the sweet antics of childhood are mixed with the fun of friendship and the simplicity of play. Will the characters' British voiceovers play to young American audiences? Youngsters unfamiliar with the King's English may find the accents a bit distracting at first, yet, more likely, delightfully intriguing. (Ages 2 to 5) --Lynn Gibson

We LOVE Kipper. We had a couple of videos when my daughter was a toddler and when we pulled them out for our son, he fell in love. Even adults can watch these videos over and over. (Unlike most Pre-K videos) The music is a wonderful, jazzy, soundtrack. I find myself singing "Kipper the dog..." at work. We have Kipper books too. I would highly recommend ANYTHING Kipper.

My four year old granddaughter loves the Kipper DVD's. She watches them over and over and just loves the characters and the situations they find themselves in. Kipper is gentle fun that teaches life lessons with subtlety and grace and without being treacly. I cannot recommend them more highly than that. What fun!!!!

This is a wonderful video for children. It gets watched Everyday. My children thank you.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for every child.......2006-02-24

Kipper has been beloved in our house since my son was born 6 1/2 years ago. Since each episode is only a few minutes long, we watch one episode (or two) just before bedtime. Since Kipper has such simple animation, it is easy on the eyes as well as the spirit. I can't say enough about what Kipper has meant to our family. Buy just one and you will be hooked. These videos will go in the hope chest for our grandchildren!

5 out of 5 stars Ridiculous! Completely Ridiculous!.......2007-04-13

OK, this film bombed at the theaters and I am guessing it was panned by the critics. HOWEVER, it has some of the funniest lines and scenes in movie history. Artie and Norm work beautifully together. MOREOEVR, there is one scene in this movie that makes me literally cry because it is so funny, no change that, because it is so ridiculous.

4 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, but it still stars Norm Macdonald..........2006-10-19

This movie features an all-star cast of former SNL regulars. The plot is goofy and senseless but interesting and full of clever twists. The jokes are plentiful, though only a few are "laugh out loud" funny. Many of Norm Macdonald's attempts at humor fall flat, and this was the biggest flaw of the film. Norm Macdonald quite simply is not a good actor, at least not in a leading role. To say he doesn't have much charisma is putting it mildly. The wooden SNL alumnus delivers many of his lines like he's reading from a book or in a sarcastic tone that seems to wink at the audience when the role calls for him to play the material straight. I love dry, deadpan humor, but Macdonald doesn't quite pull it off. This movie might have been 5-star hilarious with Leslie Nielson the king of deadpan starring in his prime.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Comedic Genius.......2006-09-25

This movie is obviously meant for the 16 - 30 year old white male demographic, and anyone outside of that group may not care for it (however, I have quite a few hispanic friends who LOVED it, so don't take what I've said to heart).

I can honestly say that this is my favorite comedy of all time. It's best watched after a couple of beers, and there are only a few fleeting moments when the movie is not entirely on fire. Norm MacDonald's comedic genius is fully realized in "Dirty Work," without the corporate filters of Saturday Night Live or "The Norm Show" to mute parts of his act that would otherwise be solid gold.

Not only does Norm deliver a flawless performance, but Chris Farley, Chevy Chase, Artie Lange, Jack Warden and many others (including cameos by Gary Coleman and Adam Sandler) all hold their own and win over each and every scene in which they appear.

If you're in the aforementioned demographic, don't hesitate--do yourself a huge favor and pick up this all-time best comedy.

After the drudgery of Sudden Impact, the fourth and worst sequel to Dirty Harry, no one could have expected the fifth to have any signs of life. But The Dead Pool is fairly inspired, even playful--check out a "chase" scene between Clint Eastwood's Harry Callahan character and a remote-controlled toy car wielding a bomb--and it ended the long-running series on an unexpectedly positive note. This time, Callahan investigates a series of murders that appears to be on a "death list," while becoming romantically involved with a television reporter (Patricia Clarkson). Jim Carrey has a small but memorable part as a doped-up rock star, and Liam Neeson is on board, too. Directed by Eastwood surrogate Buddy Van Horn (Any Which Way You Can). --Tom Keogh

Description

An underground betting pool contains the names of people recently murdered. As "Dirty Harry" Callahan investigates, he discovers his name is on the list.

4 out of 5 stars THE WEAKEST OF THE DIRTY HARRY FILMS, BUT STILL WORTH SEEING!.......2007-07-31

This is the weakest film in the series dispite having a really ingenious car chase sequence with a toy remote car that is rigged to explode when activated. There are some very good segments and a cool story line in this last entry in the series. Look to see Jim Carrey in an early movie role and a young Liam Neeson. It's not a bad film, but there has to be a best and there has to be a worst. My rating of the series 1)Dirty Harry 2)Sudden Impact 3)Magnum Force 4)The Enforcer 5)The Dead Pool. The DVD transfer is very good.

3 out of 5 stars Is The Title Right? .......2007-07-26

I was not sure about the movie. All that happens is people die and complain. But where is the pool? I saw plenty of water by the bridge but nobody died in a pool, just typewriters and yelling in the dark. They say Harry was dirty, but he looked very clean and nice, mostly in suits with skinny ties; other people have funny long hair in back, but short on top. He and the girl were scared, but they didn't have a pool anyway to swim. I think the scary yelling killer would be title much better.

3 out of 5 stars Magnum Finale.......2006-12-08

Clint Eastwood has a little pop-culture fun in this somewhat cartoonish Dirty Harry outing. "The Dead Pool" (1988) is a slight improvement over the unpleasantness of "The Enforcer" and "Sudden Impact," but Inspector Harry Callahan no longer resembles the cinematic icon depicted in director Don Siegel's 1971 classic. Still, we get an inventive car chase, a few memorable Clint one-liners, and a stronger-than-average cast (Liam Neeson, Patricia Clarkson, Evan C. Kim, Jim Carrey). Running only 91 minutes, the film moves at a good clip until stumbling at the finish line. It's a ludicrous climax as Harry blows away his final psychopath with a hand-held harpoon gun. Though a commercial success, "The Dead Pool" lacked the box-office firepower of its predecessors and Eastwood wisely bid adieu to his most famous character.

4 out of 5 stars Average Eastwood.......2006-07-13

This is an alright Dirty Harry flick. It is good for at least one viewing if you like Clint as Harry and it also has Liam Neeson, with a short cameo by Jim Carry as a druggie rockstar that is kind of amusing.

In terms of alluring female nudity, Swimming Pool shows a lot, but it's what remains concealed that gives this erotic thriller a potent, voyeuristic charge. With his Hitchcockian handling of secrets and lies, prolific French director François Ozon reunites with his Under the Sand star, Charlotte Rampling, to tell a seductive tale of murder and complicity, beginning when British mystery novelist Sarah Morton (Rampling) seeks peace and relaxation at her publisher's French villa, only to find his brash, sexually liberated daughter Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) arriving shortly thereafter to disrupt her solitary reverie. What begins as mutual annoyance turns into something more sinister and duplicitous, alternating between Julie's predatory sex with men and Sarah's observant, perhaps jealous fascination. These two women, generations apart, share in Ozon's delicate dance of trust, curiosity, and gradual understanding, until a twist ending that forces you to reevaluate everything you've seen. Only then will the mysteries of Swimming Pool be fully and tantalizingly revealed. (Note: The unrated version contains full-frontal nudity that's been edited from the rated version. In both versions, the overall plot is not affected.) --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Swimming Pool.......2007-08-08

Set upon a simple storyline, Charlotte Rampling's character leaves London for a little R & R in the country. She soon encounters the daughter of her boss, where their generational differences quickly show, the libertine young frenchwoman and the staid, disapproving, middle-class englishwoman. Surely, the Sloane Ranger set wouldn't have any trouble with promiscuity while vacationing in the south of France? I offhand consciously compare her stern, stoic, facial expressions to Glenn Close's lawyer on the new FX series, 'Damages'. Those features which reveal the voracious-rapacious appetites that are common among some women, lawyer or not. I.e., the deep chasm between what is said and what is done.

4 out of 5 stars mystery stuff.......2007-07-25

I kept wondering why so many scenes shown near a swimming pool were taking place... and then I hit the "View Information" button on the TV remote and found out the movie is actually called Swimming Pool! haha

It's a pretty good mystery movie. Some of the scenes were rather shocking, and probably inappropriate to share in this review. The mystery story was slow-building, but eventually some good plot twists took place and left me feeling satisfied. NOT a movie you want your kids to see because of some nudity scenes, but for adults, it's worth watching.

2 out of 5 stars Was it a dream? Is this reality? If I don't know, then I don't care........2007-07-05

Ultimately this is a stinker. It started out great and then the "did that really happen?", "which part is real?" stuff started...and I stopped caring. Skip it; you're not missing much.

4 out of 5 stars Intellectual but also alive.......2007-06-20

A truly interesting, beautiful, and thought-provoking film, about desire, revenge, and sisterhood (motherhood? daughterhood?), and the sources of art. The men have no chance in this movie, which turns out to be a good thing; it's not a film about romance, despite the fact that both female protagonists have a soft, sentimental spot for a good "harlequin." If it's a film about sex (and there is plenty of steamy sex in the film), it's about sex as a proxy for something harder and more elemental: the need to be recognized and affirmed. Despite being an intellectual movie, it's also eminently watchable, even gripping. A careful, even brilliant performance on all levels.

2 out of 5 stars Mostly a Waste of Time.......2007-03-07

The movie starts off very slowly, gathers a bit of steam, and then takes a plot turn that is totally inconsistent with the personalities of the two main characters, uptight writer Sarah and free spirit Julie.

I'd quote one of Sarah's lines as she "assists" Julie with a task that they undertake, but it would be too much of a spoiler... in any case, once that line was spoken, I lost all respect for the plot.

Some of the scenery in the movie is pleasing to the eye. For that, I'll give the movie two stars, rather than the one star it would have otherwise deserved.

In any case -- don't waste your time watching "Swimming Pool." You'll drown in the stupidity.

3 out of 5 stars You can't help but watch.......2006-08-04

Guilty, guilty, the guiltiest of pleasures. I have to admit (and I'm not in any way shape or form proud of this) I love this movie. Yeah, the plot is contrived. The acting, when it isn't over the top is almost painfully stilted and forced but it is just great fun. However, on the up side, Gail O'Grady spends half the movie in a tight fitting swim suit.

Don't expect a masterpiece. This movie is straight off the Lifetime Movie Channel so, of course, the schmuck husband (Midkiff) is a no damn good cheating liar. This guy has almost no redeeming qualities at all. And his stupidly transparent efforts to juggle a clingy wife (O'Grady) and his new girlfriend (Rinna) are so inept you just can't help but get sucked in.

This movie is good fun to watch, especially on a rainy weekend when you have an hour or two to kill.

5 out of 5 stars Another Woman's Husband.......2006-08-03

1 out of 5 stars Nothing.......2005-12-31

Bad Movie, Bad action and you don't get to see almoust anything....

tho words : money waisted

4 out of 5 stars Typical TV Movie.......2004-04-26

It is indeed. A boring housewife/swimming instructor, Gail O'Grady, makes friends with a Psychologist, Lisa Rinna (you know, the one with the lips) while teaching her to swim as she tried to come to terms with her brother drowning years before (phew). However, Rinna is dating O'Grady's husband, Dale Midkiff, in his usual husband gone bad role.

O'Grady is very good, Rinna is her usual stilted self and Midkiff plays his part admirably. Not a bad story. Both find out about each other and, in typical feminist style which really belongs to the early 90s, they kick the husband into touch, telling him to hit the highway while they go back to being best chums.

Not bad, but not really worth buying unless you're a bit fan of the three leads. Although saying this, would you kick Dale out of bed for eating potato chips? No, I didn't think so.

5 out of 5 stars Lisa Rinna & Gail O'Grady share the same man (w/o knowing)!.......2002-04-27

Lisa Rinna and Gail O'Grady become best friends..not realizing that they share the same man! Both women perform very well in this movie...I have been a big fan of both of them since Melrose Place and NYPD Blue. Sally Kirkland also does a great job in this movie as Gail O'Grady's mother. This movie is filled with so many different ingredients: intrigue, lessons on overcoming fears, and it helps one become stronger in believing inside what can truly make your life happy. I've seen it a few times, and enjoy it more each time.

4 out of 5 stars A Film Recommended For All, Especially Kids With Cancer.......2007-09-05

If you know of any kids who are suffering with cancer, and especially those who diagnosed as terminally ill, this would be an inspiring film for them.

Meanwhile, who doesn't like looking at butterflies? Well, this story is a lot more than that, but you might as well enjoy the fantastic insects and nature scenery of Costa Rica while going along for this ride. This is another based-on-a-true story film, about boy dying of brain cancer getting his wish to go track down the mysterious "Blue Morpho" butterfly which supposedly brings magical powers.

The film stars William Hurt and a couple of unknown actors: Marc Donato, who plays the boy, "Pete Carlton," and Pascale Bussieres as his mom, "Teresa." All three do a fine job.

I really enjoyed the wildlife photography. Some of the insects, reptiles, birds and animals in that part of the world are just amazing. The story tries hard not to be sentimental, sometimes too hard and also infers near the end that the young boy was magically healed by some spirits of the jungle. Filmmakers love promoting mystical New Age-type stuff. Nonetheless, unlike what I expected, there was a happy ending to this story. Most importantly it was happy conclusion for the real person. Obviously, that is what is really important.

This is the real-life story of David Marenger, who is a grateful, now-healthy young man who spends his time wisely helping other kids with illnesses. You can see him in an interview that accompanies the DVD.

1 out of 5 stars Cheesy.......2007-07-01

I watched this movie expecting it to be a heartwarming adventure. It ended up being a sentimental load of crap. It was so bad, as my eight-year-old sister said, "I wish the boy would have died of cancer!" The bugs were cool, but it was boring, and the plot smelled like a stink bug. I would rather have gone to the dentist. The best part was the credits. Save yourself the trouble, and don't watch this movie.

5 out of 5 stars A very good story filled wit hope........2007-05-14

I never know Nature could be so beautiful and a story fill you with so much hope.

5 out of 5 stars a lift of the spirit for anyone with a serious illness.......2006-08-08

The photography of this movie and the story are incredible, can help many individual with serious illnesses that have given up hope.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Heart warming!.......2006-07-12

This movie brought tears and a smile. Inspired by a true story, a terminally ill ten year old boy's dream is realized when a Scientist who admits he's 'not good with kids' agrees to take him with him to the rainforest to seek out the almost mythical/magic-like Blue Butterfly. The movie is deeper than it seems, and we realize that all of life is a true miracle and capable of its own mysterious magic. I found this story inspiring!
