4 out of 5 stars LOVE these Vincent Price Movies!.......2007-08-10

This is perhaps one of the silliest of the thriller movies that Vincent Price made. My all time favorite (and it truly scared the bejeebees out of me) was "House of Wax." Anyhoo, the gimmickry and pure schlock of these productions made going to the movies so much fun. You never lost sleep from nightmares either. I'm happy to see them on Turner Classic Movies and released on DVD. Vincent Price plays a doctor and this isn't a Doc you want taking care of you. Vincent Price wants to prove his "Medical Theories" by trying them out on innocent people. Not exactly the nice doctor around the corner. The theory is silly of course because this ain't real science. However, If you're not sure, just make sure you SCREAM while you're watching it. Then The TINGLER won't get you too!! Great fun to have a bunch of these old black and white movies, a bowl of popcorn, and a rainy day.

5 out of 5 stars As a Kid This is the ONLY Horror Movie That Ever Truly Scared Me Totally.......2007-07-28

I was a kid around 8 to 10 years old when I first watched this movie. I had seen House on Haunted Hill the old Vinent Price Version and Tingler not too long after. Now being autistic and disabled I had lots of hospital visits growing up so medicine, doctors and the mysteries of the body was never far from my mind.

Seeing and hearing about the Tingler made my little kid skin crawl. Add that to the human skeleton coming out of that water in House on Haunted Hill and this dude was set! My grandmother left a closet door open that had dry cleaning on it and in the bright moonlight night the plastic reflected the moonlight. From my vantage point it was just enough to put me in mind of the bones and tingler dude had a Nightmare so bad my parents insisted I stay home from school that next day.

Oh I look at Tingler now and laugh a little but, there is always that place inside me where the Tingler made its mark. I have watched thousands of horror movies since first seeing the Tingler and I laugh at most of them no matter how gore filled they are. What made Tingler so good was not the monster. Tingler has a strong psychological horror story sub-plot attached to it. Tingler made me think about the nature of fear and its effects on the body. Another thing that just creeps me out is that Tingler has strong Film Noir elements that just makes even its most outragous moments feel just a bit too real.

Vincemt Price was at the top of his form in Tingler. For an old Movie Tingler still has its bite. This film would have just been another bad B horror movie had it not been for the serially creepy intonations and hard psychotically mad doctor ghoulish features of one Vincent Price.

4 out of 5 stars Scary childhood memories.......2007-07-07

The Tingler was the first "Scary" movie I ever saw! I was very young(11 or 12) when I saw it. I couldn't sleep at all that night! Although it is obviously an older movie, I still love it. Vincent Price was, as always great! I think most anyone in the "Baby Boomer" age would enjoy it. My grown kids even like it! Maybe I'll try it out on my grandkids!

4 out of 5 stars Hokey and schlocky, "The Tingler" delivers!.......2007-02-07

At the writing of this review there were 38 other synopses of this film, "The Tingler". With that in mind, I won't waste the reader's time with another boring plot summary. Instead, let me just say that if the reader of this review is a fan of Vincent Price and especially, Director William Castle, then you will want to go get the "40th Anniversary" copy of this film. The extras, especially the short film on Castle, his films, and the promotional gimmicks that he used to sell them is great. But, back to this film....

"The Tingler" is one of those great old black and white films from the '50s that many Baby Boomers grew up with. Price is terrific as always and is surrounded with a solid cast of method actors. As mentioned by other reviewers, the "Tingler-animal"(?) is certainly hokey (and has it's exposed wires for propulsion in plain view), but that's ok. Castle's gimmick with "The Tingler" is called "Percepto" and unfortunately, viewers of the film won't get the effect that moviegoers got unless they want to hook themselves up to a battery or two. In theaters, "Percepto" was actually the act of hooking up movie seats with old motors that gave the viewer a small charge or vibration everytime someone screamed on the big screen.

The film does have a few actual thrills and chills throughout the movie. In particular, the "blood scene" used to scare one of the actors to death giving Price his chance to discover The Tingler is particularly memorable because the blood is colorized for the scene in brilliant scarlet.

RECOMMENDED FOR VINCENT PRICE AND WILLIAM CASTLE FANS, IN PARTICULAR!

3 out of 5 stars Tingle away.......2006-08-20

William Castle was the king of gimmick horror, juicing up his sometimes-great-sometimes-really-hokey horror flicks with everything flying skeletons to two-tone glasses.

For "The Tingler," it was a buzzer in the seat called Percepto, which would be a shock to anyone watching the movie. The movie itself was a rather uneven but original idea, with Vincent Price playing a borderline doctor who discovers the very roots of human fear. It's entertaining, but has some big flaws.

Dr. Warren Chapin (Price) is performing autopsies at a local prison, where each dead man died in the electric chair -- and something crushed their spines. To further his research, he frightens his nasty wife and X-rays her, and finds something that appears when afraid, and vanishes when the victim screams. He tries taking acid to frighten himself, but the experiment fails.

Then the deaf-mute wife of an acquaintance is frightened to death by some ghastly visions, and Chapin extracts an enormous, centipede-like worm from her spine -- the "Tingler." After Chapin's wife almost kills him with it, he decides that some borders should never be crossed. But before he can return the Tingler to its dead host, it escapes.

All B-movie goodness, complete with a rubber worm and deliciously vitriolic dialogue. While the idea of a spinal parasite fed by fear is a really hokey idea, Castle plays it so straight that the audience doesn't really have an opening for scoffing. Like a good fantasy story, it creates its own reality.

Castle was at his best when he was doing nasty dialogue, and he's in good form here ("There's a word for you." "There's several for you!"). He builds up a sense of rising tension throughout the straightforward plot, which is only broken when the movie ends. And despite tubs of blood and giant worms, Castle also shows his talent for the understatedly creepy when Chapin takes acid.

In fact, "The Tingler" would be a great B-movie if it weren't for two very hokey scenes. One is of a black screen, with Price's voice exhorting, "The Tingler is in the theatre! Scream for your lives!" Very awkward. The other is the final scene, which makes absolutely no sense, and has nothing to do with what comes before it. I guess Castle just needed a shock ending.

It must have been nice for Price to play a non-villain for once -- his Chapin is obsessed and a little twisted, but he isn't insane or nasty, and by the last act he's realized that science isn't the end-all. Patricia Cutts and Philip Coolidge give good performances too, as David's toxic wife and as a sweaty theatre manager who isn't as timid as he seems to be.

"The Tingler" is a fairly entertaining cult horror movie, with good acting and a big rubber worm. If only it weren't for those two scenes.

Do yourself a favor: pick up a copy of Alien, Ridley Scott's brilliant sci-fi/horror masterpiece, instead of wasting your time on The Relic. This patent rip-off of just about every other worthy horror and/or disaster flick certainly looks good in the packaging: a sturdy cast led by Penelope Ann Miller, Tom Sizemore, and Oscar-winner Linda Hunt; a reliable director (Peter Hyams); and a creepy enough setting--Chicago's Museum of Natural History, where an anticipated exhibition about tribal artifacts called "Superstition" is about to debut. OK. So far, so good. But some of the pieces scheduled for show have crossed customs even though the freighter that has hauled them north is found adrift and empty--its crew the victims of a mysterious creature that is soon on the rampage in the museum.

The Relic relies on huge leaps of faith to engage the viewer, and finally offers nothing to elevate what could have been good fun--poking here and there at several different movie genres--to a higher level . Ultimately, the film suffers most from its own self-consciousness--it knows it's a carbon copy of better predecessors, and its awkwardness is apparent. The otherwise glossy production is so dimly lit that it's a struggle to tell what's going on, and everything in this tepid formula piece about genetic mutation gone awry is further marred by cheesy special effects. It's almost as if the movie is trying to run away from itself and hide. Try as they may, the cast is saddled with dull, wishy-washy characters who are predictably doomed or saved, depending on their place in the food chain. While the trick in any good sci-fi film is to make the monster as smart--or smarter--than its pursuers, The Relic relegates its mutated horror to less than brainy turf and the war between good and evil is never much of a war at all--just a noisy, bloody, borrowed mess. --Paula Nechak

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing.......2007-06-04

I realize that most movies based on books are not going to feature everything from the book, but I was disappointed at what they did with this movie. Gone is Agent Pendergast (who was a prime character in the book), and the movie seems to end as quick as it starts - i.e. the book built up a lot of suspense before the Exhibit opened. The movie has 3 murders and then viola! In the book, you feel the police chief is an idiot for letting the exhibit go on in spite of all that has happened. In the movie, it really seems like there's no reason it should not. Many small scenes from the book were included that did not make any sense at all because of stuff they left out.

Many scenes were just unrealistic - like when the rescue squad goes in through the glass roof. They are all looking down - don't they see the first man, and then the second man, get eaten? The monster isn't hiding in a corner. Right after the first man is loudly attacked they still drop the second. And I'm sure a rescue squad would have shined a flashlight down before they went down.

Everything else aside, the movie was just too dark! You couldn't see anything most of the time. There were times when the screen was completely black for 5-10 seconds at a time, and most of the other time you could barely see anything. It made the movie that much less enjoyable.

Like others, if I had seen the movie before I had read the book, I probably wouldn't have read it. The book, however, as usually is the case, was much, much better than the movie. I would certainly enjoy a good movie based on the book that stuck to the plot.

5 out of 5 stars I liked this horror flick.......2007-05-23

I really liked this horror flick. I thought it was delivered well with it's scares and also did have a "unique monster". The story was acted well and it have some good graphics to it as well. See this movie for yourself. I highly recommend it to have in your horror DVD collection and for anyone that loves horror movies.

4 out of 5 stars Hrm . . ........2007-03-10

Well, it is always a mistake to read the book before seeing the movie. That said, I liked the movie OK taken by itself, but compared to the book it is pretty vanilla. They moved the action from New York City to Chicago for some unknown reason, and got rid of two of the best characters - Pendergast and Smithback. Also, I was repeatedly annoyed by the lighting, or lack thereof, while watching this. It seems that about half of the movie you spend straining to see what is going on in all the shadows and the other half you're rubbing your eyes because they are shining bright lights directly into the camera *ouch*

Aside from that, I liked the monster effects and I liked that they actually let us *see* the monster; so many "monster" movies never give you a good look at what is running about - I suppose because they don't want to be bothered actually creating the whole thing. But this one had a great monster, and the pacing was good as well. I wanted to smack around some of the annoying rich people, but I guess that was the point!

If you like monster movies and haven't read the book yet, watch the movie first. If you read the book first, you won't enjoy the movie as much. Once you've watched the movie - read the book, 'cause it rocks!

4 out of 5 stars Penelope Ann Miller and hormones.......2007-01-15

A ship that was supposed to transport some crates from South America to a museum seems to have a crew that lost their heads. The crates finally get flown in. One full of goodies the other just leaves. The museum's Dr. Margo Green (Penelope Ann Miller) is suspicious. Everyone else is happy until a guard seems to have misplaced his hypothalamus. Looks like Dr. Margo Green is about to be consumed by her work.

This is a pretty spiffy well done formula movie. As with many contemporary movies they completely ignore the book and add all the standard clichés. We have the ruthless rivalry, missing scientists, and mysterious crates. Naturally no one does what they are supposed to do and you start rooting for the, lets just call it a, relic.

3 out of 5 stars Some Relilcs are best left untouched...........2007-01-03

...Until you read the BOOK first. The phenomenal novel written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child takes readers through the labyrinth beneath the American Museum of Natural History in New York City where an old relic releases a blood-curdling menace that feeds on unsuspecting prey--and no man, woman, or child is safe from it's unsuspecting claws.
The movie transports us to Chicago and loses that New York edgey beat that pulses throughout the book. And, as the novel introduces a certain charizmatic hero that is later found in several of the authors work, he is missing from this film, as is the book's charm.
Of course, if you are truly not a book reader, then this is a fun flick filled with freaky deaths and funky fools.

4 out of 5 stars Body Bags DVD.......2007-08-23

One of John Carpenters movies is always a must-see. I remember watching Body Bags when I was a little kid, and I always wanted to get it on DVD.
John plays a funny coroner in a morgue telling 3 different tales of horror with the usual Carpenter twist.

The first is titled - "The Gas Station".

- A 24 hour gas station hires a new employee to work alone on the graveyard shift. Little does she know a satanic serial killer is on the loose.........

The second is titled - "Hair".

- A man obsessed with searching for the most effective cure for hair loss goes to the extreme to satisfy himself. The message in this tale is, be careful what you wish for.

And third is titled - "The Eye"

- A man loses his eye in an accident, and is left with the decision to replace it with an eye from another donor. Yet maybe finding out who the donor was before would have been smart.

All in all with the three tales and John's humourous performance, this DVD is a great horror classic, that I watch times and times again....
Any horror film fan, that likes the 80's horror films, with horror and humor, should definately buy this DVD.

Dear Readers and soon to purchase this DVD customer..

I'm really let down when I pop in the DVD into my DVD player. I was so eager waiting the arrival of this DVD at my home. The cover or the packaging is just like the normal of the others DVDs..

The whole let down of this movie is because there "ARE" "A LOT" of scenes has been deleted or edited.. Thumbs down... I still prefer the LD "Laser Disc" version where the sound and image quality is more superb than this DVD. If anyone just want to get hold of this DVD I'll recommend to purchase it but don't put so much hope on it..Like I did...

The dvd comes in three short movie..first the Gas Station...if without the deleted scenes you can expect more GOre.. secondly is the Hair.. which is my favourite...then lastly is the "the eye".. my dad's fav. Check it out yourself..

5 out of 5 stars this one is a fun movie .......2007-02-14

I remember when I first saw this one, John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper actually rocked on this one. Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame played in one of the segments though I did have a lot of reserves about him as a horror actor. It came to show he was much better of an actor in the horror genre than he was with science fiction, not knocking Star Wars but I've seen him in another Carpenter remake that also was good. The one I liked with him was the one about the eye being of sin, I am not giving the plot completely away now am I? But with that being said -- that was the most fun I've seen in a horror film. It was a TV movie I think, and when I've seen it my parents did have Showtime at the time they showed it.

3 out of 5 stars OK anthology.......2006-04-19

"Body Bags" is three different horror stories in one, all told by "the Coroner" who works at a morgue. (and is played by John Carpenter himself) Basically, think of a cheaper version of "Tales from the Crypt." I don't want to sound accusatory, but there's no getting around the similarities. Half-decomposed being telling us horror stories and all with a dark sense of humor about it - considering this movie came out in 1993 and "Tales from the Crypt" first came on TV in 1989, its not difficult to assume there was at least some inspiration involved.

The first story is involves a girl's first night working at a gas station. Things are all right at first, but eventually things turn ugly - and I do mean ugly. The second story is more tongue-in-cheek, reminding me a lot of John Carpenter's more light-hearted work, and involves a balding man looking into a brand new hair growth formula. The final story involves a baseball player who receives an eye transplant and discovers it used to belong to a serial killer.

"Body Bags" starts out strong, but gets significantly weaker as the movie progresses. The first story was fantastic, setting the mood and keeping the audience hooked from start to finish - any one who has had a job entailing them to work alone will know how the girl feels. I also admit that (unlike other reviewers) I enjoyed the second story, and thought it took a humorous turn at the end. Besides, gotta love David Warner's line on the television commercial. ("Remember: it not only helped me grow my hair, I bought the company.") What I think could have helped the second story stand out more was if the last segment was a bit stronger. All it is in the end is the basic, "Oh no my [insert body part] used to belong to [insert killer name]!" I think it could have been a stronger story if a different route had been taken, like perhaps the victims' spirits were coming back thinking he was the killer. I kept watching it hoping something original would develop, only to find all my predictions come true.

I would watch it for some minor amusement. It's not a classic, but it's a decent lazy watch.

2 out of 5 stars Pretty Cheesy Horror Collection.......2006-03-26

John Carpenter's Body Bags in a series of 3 stories all told by "The Coroner" played by of course John Carpenter (Escape From L.A and New York). First segment is called "The Gas Station" which is the shortest, where a young woman, played by Alex Dratcher (Passenger 57, Scorcher) who starts a new job at the gas station. She is actually going to school for pyschology. She soon becomes a little paranoid on the job and eventually when the night is over it becomes a little bloody. Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds), David Naughton (An American Werewolf In Paris), Wes Craven (Scream Trilogy), Peter Jason (They Live, Red Heat) and Sam Raimi (Evil Dead movies) also star in that segment. The second segment is called "Hair" which is the stupidest one out of the whole bunch which stars Stacy Keach (Escape from LA, Up In Smoke) who plays Richard, a man who doesnt want to be bald. So he goes to doctor David Warner (Titanic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2) who gives him the stuff to grow his hair back but after Richard gets his hippie hair, things dont seem right. Deborah Harry (BLONDIE) and Sheena Easton (Real Ghosts, Tek War) also star in that segment. The third and final segment called "Eye" which is the best one out of all three and the longest too about baseball player Mark Hammill (Star Wars, The Guyver) who gets in a horrible car accent and eventually loses his eye. Doctors implant him with a brand new eye but what Hamill soon finds out is that the eye itself was the former owner of a sick and murdering individual. Twiggy Lawson (Twiggy, Woundings), Roger Corman (its Roger frickin' Corman people know what hes done) and Charlie Napier (Austin Powers) also star in that segment. "The Mourge" segment also has Tom Arnold (Roseanne) and Tobe Hooper (Funhouse, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) in it as well. Some of the acting and script is very cheesy. Carpenter as the corpse like "Coroner" doesnt do anything original with it because it's bascially we've seen that in Tales From The Crypt and what not. So-so fun is had here.

5 out of 5 stars Die Alone.......2007-06-07

Without music or commentary, this documentary follows the corpses and estates of people who die without inheritors. The process is mechanical, methodical, and bereft of ritual, and the stories behind the deceased depict the depressing, solitary lives of people who truly die alone. A disturbing documentary. Exemplary and poignant.

4 out of 5 stars Enlightening........2006-07-19

A Certain Kind of Death (Grover Babock and Blue Hadaegh, 2003)

What happens to those who die without family to claim them-- transients, homeless, those who live alone without family? Babcock and Hadaegh show us in A Certain Kind of Death, and the answer is relentlessly depressing, if fascinating.

The filmmakers follow a few days in the life of various government departments as the body of transient is dealt with-- the attempt to track down any surviving family, the cremation, the disposition of the man's effects. All is handled in a cold, clinical manner, with some of those involved keeping themselves sane in any way they know how.

The sheer mudanity of the situation provides, paradoxically, all the drama this unassuming little documentary needs to keep the viewer watching. The dead man is handled like just another case, one of hundreds-- which, of course, is exactly what he is to a coroner's office in a large city. The film wends to its inevitable conclusion, no surprising twists, no family suddenly popping out of the woodwork, just an old man, dead, no longer a part of society, slowly disappearing from the memories of everyone on the planet-- except that this one won't. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle as applied to film; when you observe something, it changes the dynamic. And here is the film's great irony; that this particular transient, by dint of being the subject of this documentary, is not likely to be forgotten.

None of the usual adjectives seems to apply here. You can't call the film lovely, of course. If anything, it is its own particular breed of ugliness. And yet, of course, you'll keep watching it. This is a film you should see, not for its entertainment value, but because it shows you something about the world we live in that you don't know about, perhaps never thought to ask. It is knowledge for the sake of knowledge, and there's far too little of that in the film industry these days. *** ½

5 out of 5 stars Morbid Grace.......2005-10-09

This `depressing yet graceful and informative' documentary focuses on an extremely unique and untouched subject matter - What happens to the body of a person who dies without any kin alive? What does the State do when it learns that there is nobody to claim the body of the decedent or his assets and how does it manage to dispose off the body and belongings of a person so strange and acknowledged by nobody. The documentary does a good job at educating the audience with the foreseeability of a myriad of possibilities of what could happen to the human body after death; no matter how abominating and unacceptable such possibilities appear. This would caution an easy going carefree person to take certain vital steps during his lifetime to ensure a certain specific treatment to his body and estate after his death. The documentary reveals the interesting management of the bodies of three decedents until the State finally dutifully cremates or buries such unclaimed bodies, and the administration and disposition of the decedents' estates when they leave everything without a will or a kin alive. On a final note - Some of the graphic images of the dead bodies may be disturbing yet tolerable and acceptable.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Provocative - A Truly Unique Film.......2005-03-10

This film took me completely by surprise - I saw it at a festival, and I've been waiting for the DVD for over a year.

Disturbing, graceful, and deep.

The movie follows the LA Coroners when they find people who've died without family.

What might seem gross is actually fascinating: It's a complex, unexpected and sometimes heartbreaking process. So that I don't give it away, let's just say that the city takes care of everything, down to the last detail.

But the film is much more than just what happens.

The filmmakers find a raw beauty in the most disturbing images. More than anything, watching the fate of people who have no one makes you reflect on your own life.

Be prepared for images you will never forget.

5 out of 5 stars Autopsy is highly educational value.......2006-08-25

I find this DVD, originally duped in video tape, to contain a high educational value. Most people, apart from homicide investigators and serious crime police, wouldn't have a chance to watch a hospital pathologist at work and also hears a running commentary as he proceeds to dissect a human cadaver. I use to wonder how the dissection is done in a hospital mortuary until I got to see this documentary. The procedures are orally described in a clear and concise language which viewers can understand without difficulties at all. It is like attending a forensic pathological class without the smell of formaldehyde! There is no technical jargon. This documentary would also be suitable for those technicians, would-be embalmists and aspiring doctors and nurses to watch. As a matter of fact, the entire operation was performed by Dr. Noguchi, Chief Medical Examiner of the Los Angeles together with his two assistants. Dr. Noguchi, at one time, was involved in the famous autopsy of the late Marilyn Monroe. I strongly recommend this to the curious and forensic buffs including the police personnel who is normally not involve in forensic investigation. Excellent instructional material, though the price is a bit stiff. Thanks.

1 out of 5 stars Skip this,...Waste of time........2005-09-23

Being a huge fan of forensic science books, television shows and movies I thought this would be something I'd enjoy. Turns out I was wrong. This film appears to be a cheap, quick attempt to cash in on the popularity of this subject. Only fans of gore could possibly enjoy this. Watch the "Autopsy" series on HBO instead.

2 out of 5 stars THE BONE YARD starring Phyllis Diller.......2002-03-30

The only reason I want this movie is because it was filmed here in our little town and my son was one of the "extras" in it. It has been very difficult to find. As for the movie - it's funny in spots and grotesque in spots. It's certainly not the worst movie I have ever seen nor was it the best. It's not something that I would ordinarily buy.

2 out of 5 stars It's kinda boring, but kinda funny too!.......2001-05-09

I give it 2 stars because it is really boring. It doesn't get going until way into the movie, then it isn't even that much fun. Phillys Diller, her dog, and the scary little creep kids are the stars here, and they get about 10 minuntes total of the film. The other characters aren't interesting or funny in the least bit, and aren't even tolerable, honestly. They're on the screen waaay too long. It took me two sittings to get through this one. When it's funny, it's weak, but if you love B-films, although I do, you might want to try it out. It seems to be more sought after now that it's no longer made.

3 out of 5 stars This will definately keep any b-movie fan pleased.......2001-02-14

This movie has almost everything to keep a cheesy movie fan pleased. It has zombies, phyllis diller, a psychic, and a big zombie poodle. Yes, a zombie poodle. The zombie poodle didn't get as much screen time as it should've but its worth the price for that alone. The original box had a picture of the poodle on it with the quote "keep repeating to yourself, it's only a poodle" and thats why I originally watched this. The only reason it didn't get a higher review was because the movie drags until the last half.

3 out of 5 stars Great Late-Nite Pizza flick!.......2000-02-06

This movie has it all! Spooky ghouls, Occult practices, blood splatter, and Phyllis Diller as the diabolical Poopinplatz! This is a great flick to kick back and watch with friends and just have fun. I loved the cheese factor and the surprisingly interesting concept. I think everyone should see this at least once; heck.. I even bought it so I could show my friends the wierdest "horror" movie ever made! I have to admit.. there are several points that actually made me jump in surprise!

3 out of 5 stars Pure Cheese...........1999-06-12

Ok, yes, it is bad. BAD. But it's soooo cheesy that it's funny. if you sre looking for something to scare you, this will only work if you're a film major. Then you will be scared that this movie was made. But, it's a comedy (in my eyes). Just remember that when the killer poodle appears!

4 out of 5 stars not a delusion of grandeur.......2007-05-09

We should support ultra-low-budget efforts such as this. Major kudos to Mr. Jerry Murdock for a terrific bit of acting. Writer/director/gore effects wiz Alan Rowe Kelly shows tremendous promise. You guys are going places, the talent is there.

The weaknesses, as I saw them, and it's not easy critcizing something as low-budget as this, but I feel a certain responsibility: I realize it was shot on video, still, so much of the footage looked washed out. And this was something I didn't get, because it is so easy these days to get great looking footage with just about any (relatively inexpensive) SD camcorder, etc.

Secondly: the lead who played Dolores: just awful, so weak in fact that she hurt what could have been a horror classic. This film could have used someone better suited and convincing, someone who understands that LESS IS MORE, someone who undestands that yelling does not necessarily translate as deep-rooted rage ( there is more to it than that) someone with a degree of charisma and screen presence, etc.

It pains me to knock something that was made for next-to-nothing, still...if we are going to be helpful in any way, things ought to be pointed out: the good--as well as the other.

Lastly, the director also appears in the film as one of the characters. I say, okay, if you're someone like Eastwood, who can afford to have an army of crew people watching the actors to make sure no one steps out of frame and that things go the way they should...but when you cannot afford help of this caliber, it really isn't worth it--because your project will ultimately suffer as a result.

As I said: the guy can write, he can direct; the talent is there. Horror fans like to complain about all the remakes we are being subjected to... Well, here is something original. Get it. Rent it. Buy it. Support the indies, support hard-working creative types with solid potential like Alan Rowe Kelly and Jerry Murdock.

2 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece? Really?.......2007-03-25

I wish I could give this two and a half stars because I feel like it wasn't a total waste of time. I enjoy low budget horror films but to call this a masterpiece is going a bit too far I think. It kept losing my attention on and off throughout whole thing. Comparing it to the films of Dario Argento and Mario Bava is hard to swallow too. It is what it is. A low budget American horror flick that's only good as mindless entertainment. I'd suggest that low-budget horror fans give it a rent and make up their own minds.

5 out of 5 stars If you like Italian Gore.......2006-11-04

This movie was a masterpiece. A real treat for Horror fans. It copys the Italian Horror style of over the top gore but well done. Argento and Bava would be proud. Keep an eye on a young actress Sandra Schaller. She has a bright future in film.

5 out of 5 stars ummmm...wow.......2006-06-07

i'm always skeptacle on mordern movies and to be honest if it wern't for the numder of films awards this movie won i never would've bothered i'm glad i did. necrophilia, multiple murders, bizarre story, disturbing piece of work. if your gonna make a film like this you don't need a budget-its art for christs sake. worth owning

4 out of 5 stars "That place is a freak magnet.".......2005-09-08

Morbidly interesting story about a semi-foxy blonde homicidal maniac with a pension for making sweet love to corpses who gets a job at a small town funeral parlor that already happens to be home to a few wackos, including one organ stealing psycho who looks like a cross between Henry Rollins and Stan Ross in THE PRIVATE EYES!!! Wow.

Not wall-to-wall psychotic gore like I was hoping but it does have it's moments like somebody being strangled with another person's intestines - haven't seen that since RICKY-OH. The biggest drawback is the 119 minutes running time. That's too long, trim off 20 minutes of unneeded talking, up the outrageousness and this would have been a minor cult favorite.

First time writer-director-actor-producer Alan Rowe Kelly appears to be a promising new talent in horror movies. I can't wait to see what he does next. Hopefully he doesn't sell out and if anything goes even more over the top. It worked for PINK FLAMINGOS, DEAD ALIVE and EVIL DEAD 2.

1 out of 5 stars Absurdity Lacking Healthy Dose of Funny.......2007-03-17

Yes, at times this movie had its funny moments, but the video montages were really a waste of time and confusing.

My brother and I, when we are extremely bored, go out and rent horror movies in the hopes that we chose a real cheesy one that walks that thin line between horror and the ridiculous. There were moments in this movie that made me laugh (eg: the tennis balls getting thrown at the killer or the boyfriend who is completely clueless) However, there are better horror movies that could meet the needs of those who seek those cheesy horror movies:

Try- Slumberparty Massacre, The Granny, Cabin Fever

      1 out of 5 stars The Boring!.......2006-03-16

What the hell is this? Is this porno or a horror film? Thats what your constantly ask yourself as you watch this film. This movie is mindless, tastless, and lets not forget boring.Theris nothing but nudity and a bunch of quick flashesof various scenes which confuses the hell out of you. I thinkl they really tried to make this film somewhat of a thriller. The beginning of the movie is flooded with naked women dancing around all these men for a good five minutes and then it goes to a scene where one of the dancers leaves the bar then gets killed. At least I think she gets killed since they don't really show what happens to her. Or maybe they did and I was'nt paying attention because it was so boring. I knew from the very start of the film it was'nt going to be good. The acting is some of the worst I've seen and so is the castingof the serial Killer a.k.a the coroner. There no gore, just a bunch of blood and flashes of blood spattering everywhere. What the hell is that about? Well anyway, there are some torture scenes, but nothing really special. The ending of the movie does not really explain much of what happens next. It's just like there all this stuff happening to the girl and it seems like she's got nothing else going for her then something happens at the end that's it. It does'nt explain what happen to all the stuff that was against her. This is another one of those movies where the director spends more money on the cover of the film box than he does on the actual film. They make the cover look all cool and make it seem like it will be a good movie to watch, but when you actually watch it you ask where the hell all the money went? I've fallen pray to that tactic many times and I hate it. Here is a word of advice for all you horror fans out there. If you see a movie in a viedo store and you never heard of it before and the cover of the box looks cool and when you read the plot in the back , it sounds a little cool, Don't rent it! Because most likely the film will suck badly. Maybe in some occasions the film will be good, but most of the time it will suck. Just like this one did. Do not bother on this total crap of a film!

5 out of 5 stars Best movie ever!!!!!!.......2005-07-17

The best part in this movie was when actress Jane Longnecker tied up "Leon", chained him up in her basement and threw tennis balls at his face.

Also, when she was previously trapped in his house trying to get out, there was all this suspense built up and finally he came up behind her and hit her over the head.

I have no idea why this director doesn't make more movies like this. This was probabaly the peak of his career.

Please watch this movie if you haven't already!

1 out of 5 stars THE LEGACY OF LONGNECKER.......2005-02-07

The star of this really dumb movie is Jane Longnecker. Why would anyone seeking an acting career goe with a name like Longnecker? And her co-star is Dean St. Louis. Where were their agents when they chose such ridiculous names? What's next Minnie Apellas St. Paul? Or how about Della Ware Heights? Oh, well. THE CORONER is one poorly done piece of cinematic waste. Aside from the awful acting, the script is so lame and ridiculous, there can be no chance for even suspending disbelief. Longnecker's character does so many stupid things and the esoteric ending is laughably pointless. If you find it in a bargain bin, choose something else..you won't be missing a thing.

1 out of 5 stars worst movie that i have ever watch.......2003-07-05

This is really a bad movie that really frustrates me. I have never seen such low budget movie that is regrettably trash. Like the other viewer said "Total Trash". I regret buying this movie coz the acting is bad and the way it was presented was really awful. For eg. the part where the lady broke into the house n wants to blow up the wall and the bomb exploded, the wall didnt budge and Longnecker (wat a name) has to move forward just to see that the wall has not ben demolish and she has to move infront of the killer just to get a close look and purposely wait for the killer to strike her on the head, really dumb. Another when after going through hell, her boyfriend was nowhere to be seen until the time he brought the killer back home ,then he showed up and helped to release the killer, whta kind of boyfriend is this. Pls dont buy this movie, is not worth it!!
