Disturbing..........2005-10-30

Wow...I could not watch this DVD straight through. I had to get up and walk around. It is intense and frightening. David Tybor takes images from childhood and superimposes them on a twisted, adult world. I liked the camerawork and editing. Scene transitions were done well and reminiscent of some of those in The Matrix. The story has some of the flavor of David Lynch's Twin Peaks. I also see hints of influence of Fellini, Hitchcock, and Tarantino. It is an excellent first movie for a independent director/writer/producer.

I sometimes enjoy really lousy movies....those that occasionally result when people (even talented people) get together with good intentions to produce a movie and for whatever reason it turns out to be a disaster. Movies like "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", "Plan 9 from Outer Space", "Manos-Hands of Fate", and "Heavens Gate", etc.

So, when I heard that this movie, "Rachel's Attic", was considered by many people to be the single worst film of the decade, naturally I just HAD to see it.

Boy, do I regret that decision. This movie is beyond bad....it is SO bad that it is not even as enjoyable as the usual bad movie. The acting, filming, script, etc. are exactly like a 1960's porno film: utterly horrible, completely incomprehensible, and a complete waste of everyone's time and money. At least the porno film has porno to break up the monotony, while this ridiculous nightmare has a guy squeezing a rotten apple, and a "mad hatter's" tea party.

The lighting is non-existant...many "scenes" take place in semi or complete darkness, which is probably just as well. The "writer-director" (I use the terms loosely), David Tybor, tries to get kinky with bondage scenes...but the results would be laughable, if they weren't so pathetic. There is some nudity, but it is of such abysmal quality that it actually acts as a sexual supressant. I could go on forever and not do justice to all the flaws and shortcomings of this truly awful waste of film.

To add to my disgust, the DVD I watched appeared to be new, but was defective and some portions could not be viewed. I am not sure if this is a common occurrence, but take this as a warning and be prepared to request a replacement if yours proves defective also.

Better yet, skip this trainwreck. I know that despite my negative comments, you are probably still tempted to see if this movie is really as bad as I claim it to be....but trust me on this....it is, and you will absolutely, positively regret the experience (and expense, if you waste your money on a purchase or rental).

Couldn't watch it. Gave it a chance for 20 minutes, and it sucked worse then than at 15 minutes and ten minutes. This wasn't worth the media it was produced on.

The producers and director of Rachel's Attic know how to make a movie! I just watched the film last night on Devils Night and loved the movie! It was intense and creepy! The film stars Gunnar Hansen from the 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre classic and Attic is his best work yet! Hansen plays a retarded child molester and is scary as hell!

His character in Rachel's Attic is based on a true, real life child molester and killer from Detroit. Attic has more than one killer, the second character could be the next big horror icon, but I not giving that one away. I checked out the film online before I bought it and I was hooked. I read a online message board and It said that a new directors cut will be out soon with the directors original version, uncut with a lot of extras including a making of the film!

I also read there will be a Westwood screening of the new directors cut! I'm pumped! This is a must see film for any hard-core horror fan! I'm new to the FX world, but I found the FX in the film fantastic! I'm glad I picked up this rare and out of print film!

Beware of the plastic wrap scene! It took my breath away!

I LOVED IT!

Great low budget indie film.......2004-01-04

I just recently watched this film with my boyfreind and I thought that it was much better than expected. I thought it was going to be some kind of soft porn but instead I watched an intelligent indie thriller. I thought the actress that played Rachel was right on. It was kinda wierd in parts, but overall it kept my attention. Thumbs up for the genre-

and you should forget this one. Full of terrible acting and an attitude. It's like the director thought he made a wonderful film above anything else ever made, and his superiority shines though this awful mess. Sometimes bad acting can make a film fun and entertaining, but in this case, it makes the viewing painful.
