Forget Dancing WIth The Stars!!!.......2007-03-25
THis is much sexier. I had the VHS tape and was so happy when it finally came out on DVD. This gives the background information about the dancers and how they came to be on Burn The Floor. It also lets the dancers talk about dancing and costumes and how they tried to merge their various styles of dancing. If you aren't wanting to stamp your own feet and swing with the dancers by the end of the DVD, you must be dead.
Huge Disappointment.......2007-01-08
Having read the reviews on Amazon and other sites, I thought I'd give this DVD a shot. The premise of updating ballroom dance is an exciting one, and "Burn the Floor" had a lot of potential. The "making of" feature was informative and entertaining, and I enjoyed (for the most part) the interviews with the dancers. I appreciated the reminder of just how much time and training goes into a performance that only looks effortless. The different themes presented an interesting evolution from classic ballroom to modern dance fusion.
However, the costumes crossed the line from sexy to slutty (pretty shocking, considering one of the couples are brother and sister and had better be best buddies to dance with the risk of wardrobe malfunctions). The camera cuts were too fast to focus on the dancing, and frankly caused a headache. I would have liked to have seen full shots of the dancers rather than head and torso shots that cut off the feet. It seemed that when the editors needed footage, they chose ..."Let's see... feet? No! Crotch shot, or maybe buttocks! Forget about a shot of the dancers' legs... What do think this is, a DANCE show?!!!"
I've nothing against exciting, sensual dance, but let's see the performance, not an epileptically edited T&A flick.

This film is full of dance that is next to impossible to really watch. The camera view jumps and changes every .5 to 1.5 seconds and so you really can't observe the dancer(s) and their movement without feeling like you are under one of those department store lighting systems.
Burn the Floor.......2006-11-13
I heard about Burn the Floor when it came to our city as a musical at the Denver Center For Performing Arts. I could not afford the tickets, but heard such great reviews about the performances. I love dancing and ballroom dancing especially. I cannot dance as well as I use to when I was 30 years younger, but when I watch Burn the Floor, I get transported back in time when I was able to move like that, and I get up and move! This movie is a great movie to review the moves you use to do when you were younger and you can follow the steps the dancers provide to reteach yourself them again. What a good teaching tool, especially the last cut of the musical. I play over and over again, try to get up off the couch and dance. Great move!

It was so much better than anything I could imagine. Absolutely loved the dancing and the costumes. Wish I could've been there.

New Not Always Better.......2007-07-07
Not picking on Tamela Hastie, though I do prefer this original to the remake. Susan Harris is such a mature, soothing instructor. I also prefer the added hand weight movements that are missing from the newer version. I feel more thoroughly worked out. Great 45 min. workout which will leave you relaxed and tired in a good way.

Susan Harris is an awesome instructor. I love this workout and was glad I could find it in DVD format!! Light airy background---kinda like old style firm workouts. AWESOME!!!
