Created at least in part due to popular demand, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars will provide some closure to fans who were dismayed by the demise of the popular science fiction television show in 2003 and campaigned mightily to bring it back. Indeed, this miniseries (originally broadcast over two nights on the Sci-Fi Channel) will likely appeal primarily to the Farscape faithful, as the somewhat convoluted storyline may prove baffling to the uninitiated.
A brief bit of backstory explains how John Crichton, an astronaut from Earth, went through a wormhole and ended up on Moya, a living spaceship, with a motley group of aliens, including D'Argo (Anthony Simcoe), Chiana (Gigi Edgley), various puppet characters (designed by the Jim Henson Company), and Aeryn (Claudia Black), Crichton's love interest, who's expecting their first child. As The Peacekeeper Wars begins, our heroes find themselves in the middle of a war-to-end-all-wars between the lizard-like, implacably evil Scarrans and their rivals, the Peacekeepers. Crichton is the lynchpin in all of this, as his knowledge of "wormhole technology" is coveted by all, including his old nemesis Scorpius (Wayne Pygram), who captured and tortured Crichton back in season 1 and with whom Crichton must now form an uneasy alliance against the Scarrans.
Over the course of the three-hour miniseries, we get lots of weird- and cool-looking aliens, some nice sets and special effects, plenty of battles, and lots of portentous talk about the fate of the universe--nothing especially original, but all presented with outstanding production values. There's drama and action, love and betrayal, tragedy and triumph, war and, ultimately, peace, with a suitably spectacular ending (and a nod to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey). With a 30-minute "making of" documentary among the DVD special features, The Peacekeeper Wars is a fitting way to end the Farscape saga. --Sam Graham

Great Finale.......2007-09-03
Farscape creators did an excellent job bringing closure to this adventure. We learned even more about John's hidden wormhole knowledge and more about Jool's ancestors and their link to the human race. I won't say too much for those of you that have not caught up with the series but please keep in mind it is indeed a great end to a very fun adventure. Alhough it was a great ending, there is definitely room for more.
Incidentally there is talk about Farscape webisodes so it seems to me that the adventure will continue if Ben Browder and Claudia Black can sign on for the much talked about webisodes.
Why did it have to end.........2007-08-24
Claudia Black has always been a Fav actress of mine and she realy nails it in Farscape.. This was a series I didn't want to end.. Peace keeper wars explained a fair bit that was missing..
Peacekeeper Wars.......2007-07-28
If you watched the whole series from day one, this movie is a must have. It ties together most everything that was left hanging from the series. Awesome!
Phenomenal.......2007-07-09
I have been a Farscape fan for a long while and bought this when it first came available. This is a fitting conclusion to Farscape. While I would have absolutely LOVED a season 5, this will do. This is also one of the 2 movies that made me cry; the other being The Passion. I will not spoil it for those who maybe have not seen this yet, but I am not one who normally cries over a movie or mini, but I wept like a baby after watching this. It is typical Farscape; expect the unexpected. Watch this, love this, enjoy this.
Loved it!.......2007-07-01
I really like Farscape, so all I can say about it is positive. The characters are superb, the plots are good, and the humour is welcomed!
Really like the romance between Aeryn and Chricton, because it's not typical, and loved Chiana becauzse she is so cheeky! ;)
It was a good way to give clousere to the serie. But I have to recognize I'm still shocked it got cut... it was an awesome production!!!!!! Going to better all the way!!!!

Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's 1958 direct-to-screen follow-up to their My Fair Lady was--miraculously--every bit as memorable as that stage smash. Set in fin-de-siècle Paris and based on a Colette story, Gigi also is about a girl (Leslie Caron) on a lower rung of society who blossoms into Cinderellahood before our eyes and ears. Thank heaven for Hermione Gingold and Maurice Chevalier as her mentors, and Louis Jourdan as her prince. The screenplay writer and lyricist Lerner always said that Gigi's title song was his favorite of all he'd written, and it's easy to see why--"Gigi" is a transcendent anthem to being transformed by love from an unexpected source. The entire score, including "Say a Prayer" (which had been cut from My Fair Lady), "I Remember It Well," "The Night They Invented Champagne," and "Thank Heaven for Little Girls," comprise a sparkling, rare soundtrack recording that stands alone and can be enjoyed and understood by those who have not yet seen the movie, deprived souls that they are. The winner of nine Academy Awards (plus a special Oscar for Chevalier), including Best Picture, Gigi was the last great MGM movie musical and one of the best. --Robert Windeler
Customer Reviews:
A great example of what makes a good musical..........2007-09-05
It is true that musicals are making a comeback in the last six years, but I find myself asking whether or not that is a good thing. Most of the musicals released (with the exception of High School Musical), lose the fun and innocence that encopassed the original movie musical. Musicals like "Moulin Rouge" and "Chicago" were good, but failed to be great because they could not reach a broad audience, the content was too mature. "Dream Girls" hits a little closer to the mark of what a great musical is, but even then it is still a little too mature for most audiences. Like all great movies, they are timeless and endearing no matter when they were made.
I had never heard of Gigi until I purchased a boxset of Oscar Winning musicals (some good, and some not so good). My friend viewed it first and said it was wonderful. I watched it and thought to myself "What is she talking about?" That was a year ago, and since then I have probably watched it about fifty different times. What at first seemed like another run of the mill musical, turned out to be a witty and charming musical that is at times light and frother, and at other time very serious.
Some of the humor is very adult, but it is subtle and there is nothign raunchy or rude in it. Although characters like Honore come very close, he generally ends up coming off as sweet and generally a typical rich playboy. This is where we find Gaston, who is bored with the playboy lifestyle, but doesn't want to settle down and take responsibility. Gigi, is probably about 14 or 15, and does not want to settle down either, she is still a "little girl", and is considered by her relatives as being "from another planet".
I cannot reveal too much about the plot, but it is not hard to see where this is going, and let me just say that if you are uneasy with older men being with younger women, you may not like this movie; However, in days of old, this was quite common.
If you like a good movie that is sweet, cute, fun, clever, you will love Gigi, even if you hate musicals. It has a great story, and great characters, and it is just a lot of fun to watch. I would say it is pretty close to the quality of "My Fair Lady". The songs will definitely get stuck in your head (The night they invented Champagne, Thank Heaven For Little Girls, I Remember it Well, ect).
God Bless & *ENJOY* ~Amy
DVD Comparative Review.......2007-07-06
Gigi (1958) is set--and mostly shot--in Paris, France, and appears in the form of an impressionist painting. The film is adapted from a French, 1945 novel by Colette. It features the lyrics and music of Lerner and Loewe, and a screenplay by Lerner. It stars Leslie Caron, who had performed the title role for the stage play in London, in Audrey Hepburn's 1951 title role from Broadway. Vincente Minnelli of An American in Paris and Brigadoon directs. The film received all nine Academy Award Oscars for its nine nominations, including Best Picture: the highest win ratio of any film up to that moment.
MGM and Warner released a DVD of Gigi merely a year apart. The first release by MGM came on 4 May 1999 and has a plastic case with an 8-page booklet inside. The second release by Warner came on 2 May 2000 and has a white cardboard case with no booklet. Yet, the DVDs inside of them are exactly the same: the second Warner release is a re-issue with only the case changed, and without the booklet. I have placed a scanned photo of the MGM booklet's cover--pages 1 and 8--under the MGM release, as well as an image of the front cover which had been missing, here on Amazon.
If one looks to buy a DVD of this award-winning film Gigi, he should opt for the first MGM release of May 1999, because it comes with the 8-page booklet containing essays on the film, its music and lyrics, its actors, and its art direction. Also, its box cover art matches the DVD interactive menu as it should. Because the newer Warner release DVD has different box art with the disc being exactly the same, the box cover art doesn't match the DVD menu screens. So, again, one should opt for the original MGM DVD release of May 1999.
There's some digitized appearance to the DVD feature. Also, the film's condition warrants a restoration because of minor scratches and worn film. The movie, itself, is a very good-looking film, and so film decay hurts the intent of the original presentation in some scenes. But mostly, the DVD looks quite pristine. There's some slight film fade and fluctuations in color, and some DVD pixelization. As far as the DVD sound, it only spans the front three tracks and is likely matrix-encoded. Overall, the DVD presentation is good for a film so old that hasn't been restored.
A beautiful film such as this should be marked by film historians Harris and Katz for restoration, although I'm sure they have a lot of other work to attend to first, since a single film takes them around two years to restore. Harris and Katz are the preservationists who restored My Fair Lady, Vertigo, Lawrence of Arabia, and a few other important classics.
I feel at just a little bit of a disadvantage here..........2007-07-04
...as I've never read Colette's book. :( But I _have_ seen the 1948 French movie that led to this 1958 musical. :) Using that as a base for comparison, and comparing it to all the other big-production, big-ticket 1940's and 1950's musicals I've seen on VHS and DVD over the past decade, I can still safely say that this is one of my all-time favorites. The costumes, music, production numbers, and especially the performances (Leslie Caron herself, Eva Gabor, Isabel Jeans, Maurice Chevalier and Louis Jourdan) are all first-class. As some other reviewers have noted, I'll also say that the fact that Caron, Chevalier and Jourdan are all French folks adds to the charm and the realism, if you will, of this movie (using the term "realism" advisedly when talking about a movie musical :D ). I understand that Audrey Hepburn wanted this part but was turned down because she was "too old" (in 1958?) I don't agree with that particular reasoning, but I don't think the Anglo-Dutch Hepburn, as much as I love her, would have brought quite the same air to the production that Leslie Caron did to what became her signature role.
As the rather overused saying goes, they just don't make 'em like this anymore.
ahh.. for the love of french!.......2007-06-17
I just love this little movie. Funny and so French. Audre Hepburn (sp?) wanted this roll but she was too old to play the part. The older gentleman that is in this movie later played the candlestick in Beauty and the Beast...you know... be our guest, be our guest... to our service to the test! My daughter loved to laugh at the young girl getting tipsey on the wine her Aunt is serving along with the quality time being spent playing cards and poking fun at each other.
As bubbly as champagne- delightful!.......2007-05-19
"Gigi" is a delightful film. When I was in my teens and would watch the film based on Colette's novella about a family of courtesans, I did not quite understand the meaning of it all. It was fun to watch Leslie Caron sing and dance around Paris, flirt with Louis Jourdan, and then get dressed up and go to Maxim's. I thought it all so romantic. Later, in my thirties, the sordid aspects of the story struck me. It had never occurred to me that they were grooming the young heroine, Gigi, to be a "kept woman." The French, being the French, do not mind immorality, for the most part, as long as it is elegant. The Bourbon Kings of France before the Revolution, with the notable exceptions of Louis XIII and Louis XVI, had mistresses who lived in splendor; the scandal was widespread, countered only by the piety of the queens and princesses. The practice of keeping a mistress spread to the wealthy bourgeoisie. The story by Colette, while it is fiction, indubitably had many historical counterparts.
Gigi, however, sees through the glamor to the ugly reality. When Gaston invites her to become his mistress by saying: "I want to take care of you, beautifully," Gigi knows that it means that she will sleep with him until he tires of her, and then move on to "another gentleman's bed." Because she truly loves Gaston, and is not after his money like everyone else in the story, she recoils from the arrangement. In the end, Gaston, realizing that because he and Gigi truly love each other, he can not expose her to lifestyle of the demi-monde. She must become his wife, or nothing. Ultimately, the lively and nonconformist girl he fell in love with inspires him to rise above his boring and dissipated existence.

Forever embroiled in controversy, Midnight Express divides viewers into opposing camps: those who think it's one of the most intense real-life dramas ever made, and those who abhor its manipulative tactics and alteration of facts for the exploitative purpose of achieving a desired effect. That effect is powerfully achieved, regardless of how you may feel about director Alan Parker and Oscar®-winning screenwriter Oliver Stone's interpretation of the story of Billy Hayes. It was the American Hayes--played by the late Brad Davis in an unforgettable performance--who was caught smuggling two kilograms of hashish while attempting to board a flight from Istanbul, Turkey, in 1970. He was sentenced to four years in a hellish Turkish prison on a drug possession charge, but his sentence was later extended (though not by 30 years, as the film suggests), and Hayes endured unthinkable brutality and torture before his escape in 1975.
Unquestionably, this is a superbly crafted film, provoking a visceral response that's powerful enough to boil your blood. By the time Hayes erupts in an explosion of self-defensive violence, Parker and Stone have proven the power--and danger--of their skill. Their film is deeply manipulative, extremely xenophobic, and embellishes reality to heighten its calculated impact. Is that a crime? Not necessarily, and there's no doubt that Midnight Express is expertly directed and blessed with exceptional supporting performances (especially from John Hurt as a long-term prisoner). Still, it's obvious that strings are being pulled, and Parker, while applying his talent to a nefarious purpose, is a masterful puppeteer. --Jeff Shannon

WOWer.......2007-05-13
This DVD was great to see again and came to me as promised. Very good DVD and in excellent shape. I cant say enough.
inspirational.......2007-02-22
I love this movie; it's a survivor's movie. The acting is great; I could feel the intensity of the rage and terror. Be careful, though, if you're disturbed by violence and abuse.
Midnight Express.......2007-02-03
This was a very good movie to see, even though it was made some time ago. I really enjoyed how survival became the force which gave this person the will to continue, not loose focus on his goal but to escape. If someone is looking to see a true story that will scare you straight, this might be the one to see.I hope who ever watches this movie from my review, that you enjoy this story as much as I did.
What Oliver Stone wants Oliver Stone gets..........2007-02-01
Stone won't make himself vulnerable to anyone or the facts, whether that means eliminating all JFK conspiracy theories other than his own or simplifying a story and people as he has done here in Midnight Express. Stone borrowed Billy Hayes' real story of being held in a Turkish prison for several years after being caught smuggling hashish, and hijacked it to devastating effect. [I focus on screenwriter Stone instead of director Parker because the substance of Hayes' original book was altered by Stone and Parker just created Stone's skewed vision]. Stone was successful in destroying the Turkish justice image in the minds of generations of Americans. Ask most any American [now thirty years after Stone made his movie] to picture a Turkish(or Islamic) prison or court room or justice system, and the one portrayed in Midnight Express is the one that is ingrained. Coincidence or not, it should be noted that this humiliating portrayal of Islamic justice came at a time of increased Hollywood output of negative Islamic images and favorable Israeli ones(the unprecedented and universally viewed miniseries Masada). To this day, Islam's portrayal in movies is considered horrendous by those who study it(Shaheen's 'Reel Bad Arabs').
Instead of having ANY sympathetic Muslim/Turkish characters, they ALL are beasts. It turns out the real Billy Hayes actually made friends with several Turkish inmates but accepting Stone's reality means accepting this truth as a lie. Constantly the Western inmates have more depth,..they play instruments, they sing, they constantly visibly show compassion that the Muslims lack, they even articulate in a courtroom why Western justice culture is superior to Islamic sense of justice. The Muslims in the film are stoic, opportunistic, hypocritical, and, well,..evil. They are portrayed as victims of their own culture, as the judge hangs his head down when Billy is castigating Islamic justice for its lack of mercy, and the judge seems sad when he replies that his hands are tied. There is no reaction or inquisitiveness in the faces of the Turkish prosecutor or the others - the viewer sees them as programmed by their culture. Just so the viewer isn't confused as to the root of what creates such a fiasco of justice, Stone purposefully puts Islamic prayer beads in the hands of reprehensible characters like the Turkish public defender, and makes sure that a mosque is the prominent structure occupying the frame as Billy is driven around the city by policemen. Likewise, he hangs Christian symbols on the victims in the film. The warden never attempted to rape Hayes, as the film depicts, nor did Hayes murder anyone. Stone's manufactured murder of the raping warden may have been an effort to implant the idea that the resolution the [mostly Christian] viewers should expect between their culture and the grotesque monster of Islam will take the form of a violent showdown.
The differences between the book and the film is evidence that Stone possibly used the powerful vehicle of a "true story" to instigate prejudice against Turks/Muslims. Billy Hayes, now 56 years old and living in LA, recently tried[in the Seattle Post] to correct Stone's portrayal of his book: "The message of 'Midnight Express' isn't 'Don't go to Turkey', it's 'Don't be an idiot like I was, and try to smuggle drugs." and, "I loved the movie, but I wish they'd shown some good Turks. You don't see a single one in the movie, and there were a lot of them, even in the prison. It created this impression that all Turks are like the people in 'Midnight Express.'"

Yes, that's a former Beatle in caveman costume for this more-dumb-than-funny 1981 comedy about a prehistoric misfit (Ringo Starr) who recruits other misfits to start a new tribe. The jokes about flatulence and sex are banal, but the cast of then-unfamiliar faces is fun to watch from the perspective of history. The best thing going are some dinosaur special effects, though Ringo might argue meeting his future wife (Barbara Bach) was a good deal. --Tom Keogh

It's not my type of comedies.......2007-06-27
The picture quality is good.
The people in this movie do not speak any language at all. They make some vocal sound but it's not English because it's supposed to happen long time ago. This does not bother me. I found very few funny moments in this film. Probably, it's not my type of comedies.
the Best Comedy forever.......2007-01-20
Very nice movie from 1981 which was remastered in 2002. It's good thing for home DVD collection. You need no translation for "cave" language, because everything is funny and understandable.
One of my favorites!.......2007-01-11
Sure, the dinosaurs look a little ridiculous, but that makes them comical. Great acting, tons of laughs, etc. Get it. You'll love it.
Great Fun.......2006-11-04
Totally silly and hilarious movie. Starring some people you never thought would be in a movie together, such as Ringo Starr, Dennis Quaid and Shelly Long. I saw this movie originally as a kid and could'nt wait for it to arrive on DVD. Now that it's here it's now a family favorite. There are some scenes not appropriate for children but those are light and few.

Elvis and Hawaii go together like one of Graceland's peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches. To be honest, though, Paradise, Hawaiian Style finds the King looking puffier and sleepier than he did in the salad days of Blue Hawaii. Making matters worse is the song selection and the prominence of an allegedly adorable child actor--always a bad thing in an Elvis picture. Despite all that, there's something casually likable about the film: costar James Shigeta is a welcome performer (he plays the island pilot who goes into business with flyboy Elvis), leading lady Susanna Leigh is an above-average companion, and the location shooting is a big upgrade over the cardboard backdrops of many late-career Presley vehicles. Extended musical sequences take place at the Polynesian Cultural Center--nothing wrong with that, but rock & roll has been left pretty far behind. --Robert Horton
Description
In "Paradise, Hawaiian Style," Elvis plays Rick Richards, an ex-airline pilot who starts a charter helicopter sightseeing service in Hawaii and finds himself surrounded with pretty tourists. Co-starring Suzanna Leigh and James Shigeta, "Paradise, Hawaiian Style" features the memorable melodies "A Dog's Life," "Sand Castles" and "Bill Bailey, Won't you Please Come Home."
Customer Reviews:
It was good........2007-02-01
This was the oddest Elvis movie I have ever watched. The whole movie was like a travel guide to Hawaii. It wasn't about the King. He spent the whole movie promising every girl on the islands that he was going to "scratch their back.. if they scratched his" He co-owned a helicopter company that transports people back and forth around the islands. It made me feel like I was at the Tiki-Room in Disneyland. One of my favorite parts was the dog transport. He has 6 dogs that need to get to a dog show. He sings a song about the dogs, it is classic Elvis. It was ok, I think that he had better movies, but it was fun to watch him.
Delivery and condition.......2006-11-06
I am very happy with this product the delivery and condition of was very good
Charming Movie.......2006-10-14
Elvis plays great as always despite what anyone thinks about his movie roles. Can not go wrong with the songs he sings. They are far enjoyable throughout each selected scene. And though our "King" is gone and has "left" the building, he still brings back great memories. It is part of who he was. Wish he made more serious movies been alive to view our reviews of what everyone thought of him. I highly recommend this movie along side his rest of them he made.
Paradise Hawaiian Style - .......2006-07-03
By reviewing the film Paradise Hawaiian Style , I am definitely giving away my age. To pretend that the film hasn`t aged and that that the plot line isn`t thin would be a lie , however this film , like most of Elvis`s films serves as a platform to showcase Elvis the singer. And that he could. With his warm velvety voice and charm he could win over any female heart , add to that his gyrating pelvis and the ladies was screaming for more. The film might have dated but Elvis is as fresh as the day the film was made. For Elvis and all other movie buffs.
Elvis Presley Fan.......2004-11-08
I have seen almost every Elvis movie but I like more of his movies , this movie is great I got more on dvd and vhs if you are a true Elvis fan you should get this.

Few things can be more noble than a wholehearted effort to tell the story of black secular music in America, especially through the eyes of a mid-20th century rhythm-and-blues vocal group breaking through race barriers to popular success. Comedian and filmmaker Robert Townsend's The Five Heartbeats (1991) is one such ambitious effort. If its story frequently sags under epochal burdens, the film makes up for it with a surprisingly tough look at the music business and classy appearances by Diahann Carroll and hoofer Harold Nicholas. Townsend plays one-fifth of the titular act, whose collective life and times we follow from 1965 to the 1990s, through friendships, break-ups, and re-groupings. The director's script, cowritten with Keenen Ivory Wayans, is wobbly and short on good material for the women in the cast. But several of the male actors are quite strong, particularly John Canada Terrell as an original Heartbeats replacement. --Tom Keogh
Description
Get ready to be rocked to your soul by The Five Heartbeats! This Motown-flavored masterpiece is the story of five young friends drawn together by music. Their dream of success takes them from amateur nights in ghetto clubs to the pinnacle of show business success and personal tragedy.
Customer Reviews:
One of my absolute favorites.......2007-08-07
No lie, I LOVE this movie. from the first time I saw it until now, this movie holds a special place in my heart. About a group of fellas who start up a group in the 60s,(loosely based on the group The Dells"Stay in My Corner"), you see this group go through highs, lows, breakups, death, betrayal, love etc. If you love music from the 60s and that era, you have to get this movie, NO LIE. Favorite part: when Eddie Kane, former lead singer, falls down on the stage and bring down the house singing "A Heart is A House for Love". Get the cd too and bring back those memories. No, this movie didn't make the top ten of 1991 when it first came out, and it may have some stuff that shouldn't be there, but for those of you who are die hard Heartbeat fans, it don't mean a thing.
Cheesy.......2007-06-16
Cheesy acting and predictable you see everything coming. This movie does not miss a single cliché.
Great performances from the entire cast.................2007-04-19
Well written and detailed account of 60's soul groups. Does not disappoint. Check it Out!
I'll review this version rather than the movie as a whole........2007-04-06
Why? Because if you're here, you probably already saw the movie and are just curious about this release version. So I'll tell you about it.
First, the good:
- Comes with the official movie soundtrack. I mean the FULL soundtrack, it's a separate disc.
- Video transfer is done a lot better than the original DVD release.
- Case is designed a lot more appealing than the standard black and blue.
- Audio is better encoded and easier to hear at lower volumes.
- Lots of extras, including some fluff, but hey.
- Better aspect ratio, as the picture fills widescreen displays more evenly without stretching.
Now, the bad:
- The soundtrack...it's so irritating to listen to, because they managed to do the true movie version of "Nothing But Love" and some other songs, fresh from the movie, but yet "Nights Like This" is that After 7 version. I don't mind the After 7 version, it's not bad, but I wanted to hear the movie version. This is especially troublesome when they even managed to do that Byrd song fresh from the movie.
- Some of the footage that never made it in the movie SHOULD have. Like the scene where Duck is explaining that all of the members can sing all different levels. It would explain a later scene when Choirboy offers to sing in Eddie's place - when I watched the first version I was confused. A soprano singing a baritone's parts? Also, there were some slight comedy pieces in there that should have been included.
- Some of the extras are just flat out pointless - or if they wanted to include them at least include the characters people cared about. There's one extra where the actors in kayfabe are giving their thoughts before accepting 'awards'. Totally corny, but it might have been entertaining if Eddie Kang Jr. and JT were there. There's only 3 of the five present.
- General movie negative...they never did explain what happened to Bobby, from the beginning of the movie. I was hoping for a deleted scene that would explain this, but alas...
So, would I recommend getting this? Absolutely, because I can almost guarantee it won't be released on HD-DVD or Bluray.
My favorite film of all time!!!!.......2007-02-09
An excellent film from start to finish. For most of you that don't know, this film is about the Dells, one of the greatest r&b groups of all time. Robert Townsend did a wonderful job creating this film. All of the actors were sensational, especially Leon, and Michael Wright. Great characters, and songs. I recommend this film for all music lovers!!!!!!!!!

¡Haga lo!.......2007-05-24
This DVD is fast-paced. The instructors are all business, but the dancing itself still makes the DVD very fun. There is plenty of content, and the menus are easy to use. I'll be very pleased with myself if I can master everything in this beginning DVD. You may be very impressed with all you can learn too, especially if you are like me and haven't really been exposed to salsa before. Gigi and Pedro demonstrate advanced salsa at the end of the DVD; their demo is just flat-out crazy.
This is definately a keeper.......2007-02-22
With this DVD you can learn salsa very easily and fast. With Gigi as a wonderful instructor and three different angles to look at the steps, dancing becomes a piece of cake. Absolutely one to add to your collection, people!
So clear and easy, even my boyfriend can dance now.......2007-02-17
I've been dancing my entire life and salsa for the past six years. Then I got a boyfriend last year and he felt kinda left out when we went to salsa clubs, cause he never did salsa in his life. Now to be honest I'm not much of a teacher, and he doesn't have the money for actual classes, so we had a problem. Then my teacher mentioned something about some dirty guide to salsa, I gotta admit at first I was a little sceptical, but we bought it anyway. And it's fantastic, it's so easy and so much fun and Gigi is so awesome too. Except that my boyfriends wants to meet her now, no way that's happening, he's my dance partner now!
Salsa is awesome!.......2007-02-10
I actually got this dvd from a friend of mine for my birthday. She thought it would be a fun joke. So when I got it at my party we all laughed and said we would all be amzing salsa dancers by the end of the night. A couple of hours later we went through the entire dvd and all of us could do all the steps Gigi taught us that night, from Abajo to El Dos. And the fact that we could still follow the instructions after the 2 bottles of tequilla the eight of us finished that night, proves to me that this is the best Salsa dvd you can find on this planet.
WOAH WAH WEE WAH.....I LIKE!!!!.......2007-02-06
I show new film at my uncle Dubat's house and my young cousin dance for us. Before she no like bang bang, but after I show her new Dirty Salsa DVD she like bang bang very much!! We have dance competition in my county and my neighbor was so jealous he beat his donkey! I recommend Quick and Dirty Salsa very much it will bring you much hot sexy time!! Please watch this movie film or I will be excute!

The 1998 Fox television series Significant Others amounted to six episodes (three of which never aired) before cancellation, but this two-disc set strongly suggests that the witty, nimble dramedy from the creators of Party of Five deserved a longer run. In a nutshell, PO5 went on hiatus in '98, and irritated fans of that series ignored replacement program Significant Others, which follows the career and romance hassles of three twentysomething best friends. Fox pulled the plug on Significant Others very quickly, but fans of actor Scott Bairstow (who went on to a recurring role on PO5) and two terrific actresses, Jennifer Garner and Elizabeth Mitchell (who next turned up in the PO5 spin-off, Time of Your Life), should definitely look into this truncated project.
Bairstow plays Henry, an aspiring writer reduced to churning out website pornography and inexperienced enough to enter, wide-eyed, into an affair with his older, married boss. Campbell (Eion Bailey of Band of Brothers), in defiance of his parents' wishes, stumbles through initial steps to become a producer of children's videos; he's also coping with the shock of discovering pals Henry and Nell (Garner) are getting it on and that an old girlfriend (Mitchell) is marrying his shallow, older brother. Talented Nell, destined for big things but afraid of commitment, hops from one important job to the next and develops an attachment to her absent father's best friend. As with PO5 (and Sisters, another primetime series from some of the same producers), Significant Others treats serious topics with smart dialogue and enough of a light touch to make the series feel comforting and familiar. Still, that's not enough for the irrepressible Garner (Alias, 13 Going on 30), whose enchanting, tragi-comic performance on this series is almost larger-than-life and reminds one of such Golden Age stars as Jean Arthur and Ginger Rogers. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
I dont give 5 stars to to many movies..............2006-01-16
This series is absolutly fabulous! I never watched this when it was airing because I never heard of it. I didnt hear about it until about a few weeks ago. I will admit the only reason I even bought this was because of Jen Garner and Michael Weatherly. I didnt exspect to fall in love with the characters. After you watch the last episode you will ask yourself over and over again "Why on Earth would such a great series get cancelled?" If you like Dramadys with an awesome cast this series is for you. But be warned if you like this, you will be sad that there is only 6 episodes.
Choose something other then this insignificant excuse for a TV show .......2005-10-01
Condered by Jennifer Garner to be her own little secret, 'Significant Others' must have had an incredible impact on her life and the lives of its fans. The same cannot be said for me. I first saw Jennifer Garner in 'Alias', and 'Daredevil', and then 'Felicity' and that made me buy 'Alias'. Then I saw this show available and thought I'd give it a try.
There was not one admirable quality to be found in any of these characters or their lives. I couldn't get passed the pilot episode. I don't know how it could have ever been picked up. I'm not at all surprised three episodes got aired. It is a dreadful show. It doesn't matter what order you see the six episodes in, they are still in the same sorry predicament they were in to begin with.
This is a truly insignificant show and I admire anyone who gets any enjoyment out of it. The only good thing I will say is the theme song seemed pretty catchy and the actors have gone on to better things. This series should never have seen the light of day. Television series must not come any worse then this. I wouldn't normally be this harsh on a television series but there are absolutely no others that deserve such a poor rating then 'Significant Others'.
Excellent Series Buy It Now.......2004-12-04
I watched all six episodes over two nights and was amazed at how entertaining it was. The cast were perfect and the characters were people you cared about. Funny, dramatic, touching, all the elements that make a series memorable. Do youself a favor and buy this series now, you will not be disappointed.
long overdue.......2004-06-18
This show came out when I was 24 and meant the world to me. I still remember one scene, I think they were playing pool - to this day when that song comes on the radio I think of this show! I just stumbled across the info on this being released later this summer. I had to reread the title because I could not believe it. For anyone out there who liked/likes the guilty pleasure of shows such as Felicity, Party of 5 (the earlier years), etc...check this out and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. If anyone remembers the show Relativity, I would pay big bucks to see that on DVD next. Fingers crossed.
A Sweet character driven look at being young & pursuing life.......2004-06-16
I originally watched this series when it debuted in '98 because I adored Scott Bairstow. Only 3 episodes were aired & I have all 3 taped. I happened to have rewatched the show a couple of months ago. I had forgotten all about it until it was mentioned in a special about Jennifer Garner, who I didn't know anything about at the time. When I initially watched the show I found the way that the three lead characters (played by Scott Bairstow, Jennifer Garner & Eion Bailey) interacting in a love triangle, to be sweet & adorable. I was a teenager at that time. Now, rewatching it as a woman in my early 20s it has more resonance, because it's also about the characters' journey to find themselves. Campbell Chasin (Eion Bailey) is still looking to carve out a name for himself in a family where everyone else is expected to go into the family business, just like his brother Ben Chasin (Dark Angel's Michael Weatherly) has. Ben is also applauded by his parents, because he is getting married. He seems to have it all together, until we see him with regret at a missed female fling opportunity right after his wedding. Campbell decides that he can make a killing selling children's videos & tries to get either of his friends to go in on it with him. He's also upset, because he discovers that Nell Glennon (Jennifer Garner), one of his best friend's & ex, is now hooking up with his other best friend, Henry Calloway (Scott Bairstow). Nell is an excellent worker who is so afraid of getting stuck in one track for the rest of her life that she actually quits her job after getting promoted. Her major issue is committing to anything. Henry fancies himself a serious writer. However, he has to pay the bills & does so by writing soft core porn. His boss is the slightly older Charlotte (Gigi Rice) whom he lusts after. The first 3 episodes had me intrigued. I'm assuming that this set includes all 6 episodes (the other 3 of which were unaired) & I'd love to see the rest of them. This is also a great price for this set. Snatch them up before the prices inflates.

Gregory Peck plays a young New York executive who defies the wisdom of the corporate class by deciding his family is more important than the offer of a new job. Lots of melodrama, guilt, and a revelation about a wartime affair (told in flashback), but this well-oiled, good-looking 1956 film still holds up pretty well. Based on a novel by Sloan Wilson, the script and direction are by Nunnally Johnson (The Three Faces of Eve). --Tom Keogh
Description
Based on the novel by Sloan Wilson, The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit stars Gregory Peck as a haunted New York executive whp defies convention and decides his family is more important than his career in this post-war melodrama scripted and directed by the celebrated Nunnally Johnson (The Three Faces of Eve).
Customer Reviews:
Superb!.......2007-07-12
See, this guy, Gregory Peck's character, is 10 years after he was in WWII. But, he still gets flashbacks that affect his life in the present. The acting by Jennifer Jones and Mr. Peck and all the cast is of high caliber. The music of Bernard Herman is also excellent. I could go on but I hope you get the idea that this movie is highly recommeneded. boland7214@aol.
Dated classic from the Fifties.......2007-05-23
While this may have been a classic film from the 50s, it now appears rather dated in the acting and direction compared to the films of 2007. The film plods along slowly, and Gregory Peck does little to improve things with his standard stiff, wooden acting. The story may have been good on paper (and I'm sure the source material was excellent) but the film comes across very awkward, stiff, and melodramatic.
Scenes from a Marriage.......2007-05-22
For some reason, I didn't think I'd seen "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit" before when I watched it last night. However, I readily remembered a number of scenes I seen many years ago. Most of the scenes were odd ones involving what I considered to be strange behavior or dialogue. The first one that comes up is the "biography" that the Gregory Peck character has to write for his executive job interview. He gets an hour by himself to write about himself and how he'll be an asset to the National Broadcasting Association (or whatever it's called). Off by himself, he is focussed on a difficult WWII flashback and comes up with three or four sentences that says, essentionally, "What a dumb idea; just hire me". I thought it was extremely lame but the head honcho, played rather absent-mindedly by Fredrick March, thought it was outstandingly original. Thus begins an akward job that doesn't seem to involve anything other than writing a speech for a medical convention. The whole executive staff seems to be involved with "The Speech". Peck's offering gets tossed which is what should have happened with his "biography" instead. Meanwhile, March has a confusing scene with his ex-wife about their 18 year old daughter in which the ex asks March to try and straighten her out. She says that if he doesn't at least try to do this, she'll never speak to him again. People are saying absolutes and accussations left and right in this movie. There is a lot of personal issues that come up but we never get to hear "The Speech". Maybe that's just as well; with so many contributors, it was probably a cure for insomnia. There's an excellent part played by Lee J. Cobb who, with Gregory Peck's performance, nearly saves the film. The ending is strong or else I would only have given this movie "3 Stars".
I mentioned having seen the movie before because those same scenes I mentioned had been in the back of my mind all these years (I just had it mixed up as to which Gregory Peck movie they were from). I guess it says a lot when so many scenes (and there were others as well) stay with you for so long. Maybe I was just confused by how such seemingly important people spent so much time doing nothing. This is a movie about business vs. family and the choices those seeking success need to make. It attempts to portray the pros and cons of both choices (office politics vs. unattentive children, for example) yet the way so many people over-react to the situations that come up alienated me from giving the movie's message more serious attention. Maybe you'll have better luck with it. At least you ought to get a kick out of the rich folk's interior decorator.
OK period piece.......2007-05-10
It is kind of an odd movie to have been made in the mid fifties. It's themes seem more like a movie made in the seventies: the horror of war, PTSD, impacts of infidelity, conflicts of career advancement vs. family obligations. The story is ahead of it's time and is enjoyable.
Though the production values are attractive, the script is meandering and some of the performances are melodramatic.
Overall a OK period piece.
.......Corporate America versus Middle America..... [1956 ].......2007-04-19
What will it be??... as Gregory Peck [Tom Rath] must decide for his future...he is a man of principle coupled with discipline learned from his military past, by which a 'flashback' pops out in his memory/bank while on his daily commute into NYC...how odd, these ne'er forgotten images ingrained, all of a sudden arise from one lil sighting; nonetheless, it shows the PTSD syndrome within those men who were locked in close combat, which images are now far removed from their present civilian daily rush of life...this one scene piqued my total interest in Sloane Wilson's adaptation from his book [bestseller] to the technicolor film production...Peck portrays a good man, devoted husband, observant father as this movie revolves around him for the most part; unfortunately, a very and much talented and beautiful woman [Jennifer Jones] is hardly noticed with mundane prose, too bad, because she and Peck had sultry chemistry in, "Duel in the Sun" previously...Frederick March [CEO] knows exactly the dilemma Peck wrestles with if he wants to come on board full knowing his 'other' life may become flotsam...Peck does the right thing for..Tom Rath...I won't spoil the ending for you...great book and a better film reproduction into PTSD and the personal ramifications that interweave Tom Rath's life after WW2 ends...SSGT CHRIS SARNO-USMC FMF
