Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent video for a beginner.......2003-11-18

I got this DVD with my electric guitar as a Christmas gift. It starts off with the basics to help those of us who can't afford guitar lessons. This DVD basically taught me everything I needed to know to get started playing electric guitar.

2 out of 5 stars It's as if your being taught by a math professor.......2001-06-20

Okay, perhaps that's a little unfair. I'm sure that there are very exciting math professors out there who make Math come alive. But in my experience, all of my math professors were dull, uninspired, and humourless.

Which leads me to ol' Bert, the instructor of this DVD.

Music is as much about passion as anything else, even if you don't have the basic skill. But for some reason, Bert seems to avoid showing any. Yes, he shows a little skill, and yes, he demonstrates a little knowledge, but he does it all with a sense of dis-interest.

And about his skill, and his knowledge. This DVD for for the ABSOLUTE beginner. Meaning, you have NEVER picked up a guitar before. But if you have already taught yourself three cords, and can master strumming, then you are already beyond the scope of the intended audience.

Beginners...if you want someplace to start, this is as good as any, which is why I gave it two stars instead of one. But you will soon be looking for a little more difficult beginner's lesson.
