Description
Guaranteed the quickest and easiest way to get into playing the real country guitar! Happy Traum will get you started in this popular American guitar style and get you ready to move on to more advanced studies.
You'll learn to handle a flatpick, play a basic scale, then master these techniques: accompanying songs in straight and waltz time; picking out melodies while strumming chords; adding bass runs, hammer-ons, pull-offs and other variations, and playing the famous bluegrass "G Run." Songs: "John Hardy," "Bury Me Beneath The Willow," "All The Good Times Are Past And Gone," "East Virginia," "Wildwood Flower," "Mama Don't 'Low," "Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms."
Customer Reviews:
Great place for the right guitarist..........2007-05-04
If you are a beginner who knows the chords already, you will really enjoy this DVD. However, if you have been playing awhile, and are an advanced beginner or an intermediate AND you grew up with no knowledge of country or blue grass (me!) you will also love this DVD. Playing Dylan, Beatles, etc, I never knew country or blue grass music. This introductory DVD is really great to show you some of the basic songs, plus a few of the well-known (to the country world) strumming, bass notes and bass run. This DVD is really easy to follow and I found it to be a very useful but fun lesson. It is not complicated and it won't take but a few weeks to finish, but it is a great part of your guitar instruction library. It has introduced me to bluegrass music, which I now possess a new-found respect for.
Great dvd.......2006-12-19
I've been strumming for 15 years and decided to get serious and learn some basic techniques that I'd never learned. This dvd was perfect in jump-starting my ability to play better.
On this dvd Happy Traum assumes that you know the basic chords but not much else. He starts with tuning, quickly moves to how to hold a flatpick, and moves on to basic techniques such as alternating bass. Before I knew it, I was playing some folk tunes really well. Even though I've been playing for quite some time, I learned some basics that I should have learned when I first started. Happy Traum is a fantastic teacher and this dvd was worth every penny. I was so thrilled with my progress that I bought his fingerstyle dvds and they are great, too. Highly recommended to the begginer or those, like me, who never took time to really learn basic technique.
Not very helpful.......2006-03-10
This DVD was a waste of money for me. It's too advanced for beginners because it expects you to know basic chords. On the other hand it does virtually nothing to advance the intermediate player. It focuses primarily on alternate base methods with a brief intro to melody. For the same amount of money there are other beginners and/or intermediate instruction videos available that cover a lot more than this does. Not recommended.
