Balboa was very popular among the College Kids and the sophisticated dancers in the mid 30s and is now extremely popular once again. Originally Balboa was a closed position swing form with intricate footwork predominantly based on 8-count patterns. But when the hot Swing music really hit the scene some of the younger dancers like Maxie Dorf and Lolly Wise added Break-Aways and Swing Turns to the Balboa, which nowadays is often referred to as Bal-Swing.

Balboa can be danced to any speed of music, from slow songs at 120 beats/min. till very fast ones at 300 beats/min. Pure Balboa is probably the easiest way to dance to fast swing music.

This DVD is a three title set that contains 50 (!) different steps and a lot of great bonus material.

Balboa/Bal-Swing 1 doesn't require any experience in Balboa dancing. It starts right at the beginning. Marcus & Bärbl and Steve & Denise set great store by getting you a good foundation and feeling for the dance. You will learn the most typical steps that form the character of Balboa and Bal-Swing. Every step is broken down and well explained. Big emphasis is put on the leading and following of each step. It makes you able to understand the dance, to feel comfortable on the dance floor, and to have fun.

Balboa/Bal-Swing 2 will teach you more footwork variations and more patterns to get a deeper insight into Balboa, which gives you more variety and more fun. See what makes Balboa such a great and addictive dance.

This Balboa/Bal-Swing set is a comprehensive instruction on this dance style. If you've never danced swing or at a beginning level, it may be a bit overwhelming. But having 2 sets of instructors is great because you see the moves in different styles and/or angles. The documentary and dance demonstrations that are included are fantastic! Definitely well worth adding to your dance instruction collection.
