The BB Collection is a general overview of Ms. Bardot's Body of work from the mid 1950's to the late 1960's. We can see a young but ingenous starlet mature into a compitent actress over the years. She steals the show in several otherwise mediocre films. The video quality varies from film to film so don't expect much, from poor to fair, compared to todays crisper lines and more realistic coloring. Audio quality is often quite poor. The writing and storylines are of course dated, present day expectations are to be left for comparison only, anyone expecting modern scenarios or production values will be sorely disappointed.
For historical value I give this choice a 5, for overall quality a 3, Remember these are not Bridget Bardot's better films. The story value I would give a 2, I have seen similar films that hold interest better, the films as a vehicle for Bidget is the primary draw. For younger viewers, many of these films were rather risque when they were released, though tame by today's standards. They do show an interesting evolution in cinema, and in one actresses career.

A great Bardot set for both those who've seen her best known films and those looking for an introduction to one of the great sex symbols of all time. Films in this set are some lesser known ones but selected from all eras of her career to give a great overview.

all films appear newly remastered - pristine prints. All panavision films presented widescreen. Includes a documentary on the Bardot phenomenon called, "Brigitte Bardot: Larger Than Life" that covers the range of her life and career including the films she made with the French New Wave. Includes interviews with Hugh Hefner and a few French film experts.

NAUGHTY GIRL (1956)co-written by Bardot's husband/svengali - Vadim just a year before her breakthrough hit "And God Created Woman". Fun romp with Bardot in her early gamin look. Color/ widescreen

COME DANCE WITH ME (1959) - wild mix of genres from gangster film to musical to sex comedy. Plus you get to see Bardot dance which is a treat in and of itself. color

LOVE ON A PILLOW (1962) - co-written and directed by Vadim. Taken from biographical elements of Bardot's life. A man tries to commit suicide and is helped in his recovery by Bardot. Co-starring Robert Hossein. Good early Vadim film. More dramatic role for Bardot like her roles in COntempt and The Truth. color/widescreen

TWO WEEKS IN SEPTEMBER (1967) - Swinging London in the late 60's. Great print with wonderful colors. Cool shots of London, underground clubs and a very sexy Bardot in her more familiar blonde bomshell look. Color/widescreen

THE VIXEN (1969) - Bardot helps a writer get through his writer's block as only she knows how to do. Toward the end of her career but Bardot still looks fantastic. And shows a more mature comedic talent. color

Several of these films were released in 2000 from Anchor Bay. But this set includes better prints and nice supplemental material. A good addition for the foreign cinephile's library.

This well-made movie has one flaw: it's a little unconvincing, for it does not suit the talents of Brigitte Bardot. Renowned for her light comedies, playing a crime plot just isn't Brigitte's trade. I think her style too light, too gay for acting out the necessary mystery, horror and suspense.
In spite of that 'Voulez-vous danser avec moi?' still makes good watching. It provides good quality-acting, and its well-built story claims the viewer's interest from beginning to end. It also seriously deals with homosexuality, which is pretty groundbreaking for 1959. For this reason I guess Paris was the only location possible.

The storyline almost does not matter: it is all a pretext to showcase Brigitte Bardot's (stunning) curves. She can't act, but she is so cute! And she is also surrounded by a wonderful cast of character actors well known to the French cinema afficionado of the 50s: Dario Moreno as an overwhelmed mambo instructor, Noel Roquevert as the Forever Furious Father , Georges Descrieres as the suave but morally bankrupt playboy, Serge Gainsbourg -very young- as a loathsome creep...it's all good fun, and the visual quality of this DVD is also fabulous (hey, this is not "Death in Venice", but it is certainly colorful!). I recommend the movie as a very entertaining piece of kitsch, for kitsch and Bardot lovers alike.

A Beautiful Box for the Beautiful Brigitte.......2006-06-17

Besides her great beauty, Brigitte Bardot is mostly known for her work & relationship with director Jean Luc Godard- and that might set some up for a dissapointment with this set. None of the films featured here approach "Contempt" or even her role in Roger Vadim's "And God Created Woman", these are basically cute French romantic comedies that are light, fluffy and full of sexual suggestion. For fans of the actress and fun films from the 60's, you'd really enjoy this set. I sat down to watch them without expectations (beyond having fun) and I wasn't dissapointed. It's sort of like seeing a lesser Marilyn Monroe film- it'll never be as satisfying as "Some Like It Hot", but it's still fun. Not to mention, Brigitte's carefree beauty and charm makes each of these very watchable.

The actually box set is a little flimsy, but will hold up on your shelf just fine if you take care of it. It's a very pretty blue box covered in stars with pin-ups of Ms. Bardot taken from the films. Highly recommended for fans of Brigitte (obviously!) silly romantic comedies, French films from the 1960's and collectors of classic and off-beat DVD sets. Don't go in expecting anything more than a good time, and you'll be sure to have one.

I will not reveiw the movie itself because everybody has different taste. If you are reading this review you probably like the movie anyway and know what it is about.

The DVD version of this release would be for fans looking to expand thier DVD collection or those who do not have these titles on VHS or laserdisk. If you have it on another format these DVD releases don't have much to entice you.
