Customer Reviews:
Only First Movie is Good.......2007-08-31
I only enjoyed the first movie. If you are not a lover of old films, this may be of interest to see the 70s trends of whodunnits. If you are interested in seeing current stars in their early years, this DVD is for you.
70's mayhem.......2007-04-06
This DVD has three tales to tell. Having been an adult in the 70's, I
believe they were made for TV movies. All three were passable. Each had
a favored actor of mine, which helped. The stories were interesting, a
mite predictable, but interesting. They are definitely "period pieces".
Great Value,.......2007-02-16
This DVD was a great value, giving you 3 different movies on 1 disc. Video quality could have been alot better.
Poor quality.......2007-01-12
This set was a diapoiment, all the way around. I would not recomend these remakes to anyone.
not even good,much less great.......2006-06-15
wow, they really had to scrape the bottom to find these turkeys! the transfers are ok and if you like detective movies(you really have to love them ) you might like this, for the rest of you save time and money and skip it!

Movie Trivia and factoids
Ellery Queen in the Mandarin Mystery starring Eddie Quillan (1936, run time 66 minutes)
A crook steals a $50,000 stamp, which results in two murders--both committed in impenetrably locked rooms. Famous detective Ellery Queen sets out to retrieve the stolen goods and solve the murders--but falls in love with the primary suspect.
Sherlock Holmes in the Triumph of Sherlock Holmes starring Arthur Wontner (1935, run time 84 minutes)Holmes and Dr. Watson investigate a mysterious murder at Birlstone Castle. The killing seems to be tied to the Scowlers, a secret society of coal miners. Conspiracy with an American gangster adds to the thrills and chills of skullduggery involving the infamous Professor Moriarty.
Bulldog Drummond in Bulldog Drummong Escapes starring Ray Milland (1937, run time 67 minutes)
This edge-of-your seat action movie is filled with plenty of mystery and espionage. Ray Milland, as Bulldog Drummond, comes to the aid of pretty heiress, Phyllis Clavering (Heather Angel), who is being held against her will by villains. Lots of action and adventure as a scheming "family friend" hopes to get his mitts on her inheritance.
Mr. Moto in Mr Moto's Last Warning starring Peter Lorre (1937, run time 71 minutes)
Two spies try to sabotage French ships passing through the Suez Canal and plans to blame the British. Detective Mr. Moto is assigned to stop them and finds himself hip deep in international espionage.
Customer Reviews:
good 4 those of u who enjoy unheard of films.......2006-07-25
Yes, i will admit that the overall quality of these disks is not as fantastic as what is common today, however, for those of us who can look past that and just enjoy old, generally unheard of films, this is a good buy. I will also admit that the final movie involving Mr. Moto is terrible, but I like the mysteries of Sherlock Holmes, Ellery Queen and Bulldog Drummond (played by Ray Milland).
NOTE TO AMC,IF YOU CAN'T PUT OUT GOOD PRINTS OF MOVIES,STOP PUTTING THEM OUT.......2006-06-15
THIS IS ANOTHER OF THE AMC DVD RELEASES,AND FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY KEEP PUTTING OUT SUCH BAD PRINTS ON DVD. THESE DISC ARE SO BAD(SOUND DROPS,FADE OUTS OF THE PICTURE,AND IN SOME CASES IT LOOKS LIKE A VHS TAPE THAT NEEDS TRACKING DONE ON IT! THE PITS,SKIP IT!!!!!!!!!

Great Detectives Hollywood Clasics #55199.......2005-08-22
The 4 movies are Ellery Queen in The Mandarin Mystery; Sherlock Holmes in The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes; Ray Milland in Bulldog Drummond Escapes; and Peter Lore in Mr. Moto's Last Warning. As long as you aren't affraid of black and white movies, all but the Sherlock Holmes moive are fun. The picture on the cover has Tim Hutton, who played Ellery Queen in color TV shows. This isn't Tim Hutton.
These movies give the viewers a look back in time. They show how movies were made, frequently showing actors who later became stars (such as Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond series of books). They also demonstrate the societal fears of the time (such as Japan's and Germany's rising power in the 1930's).
And hey, for the price you're paying, well worth the payoff of some 4+ hours of viewing.
