Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars This movie is BAD!.......2007-03-09

When I say this movie is "bad," I mean that in the traditional sense of the word "bad." I mean it's wretched - stinko - execrable - possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. It is totally ghetto and doesn't succeed at anything except perpetuating racial stereotypes. It plays like a long bad rap song, with all the females on the scene just there to bump and grind and have sex with the males on demand. But I'm not sure that even men intent on watching some soft porn could really relish this heartless mess.

The DVD cover makes the movie sound as if it has possibilities. It advertises a plot involving a murder that takes place at an open-mike poetry reading. That sounds almost Agatha Christie. But this film is as far from being a mannerly mystery as it is possible to get.

There are a few not absolutely awful moments as different poets are shown declaiming their rap-rhythm poems. The poets get off some inventive rhymes, some snappy word juxtapositions. But the poems themselves are the usual self-important intonings that you find a lot of at urban poetry slams. And what little merit there is in some of the recitations gets buried in the general meanness of this low-budget indie film.

Don't waste a minute of your life on Deadly Wordz. There's a word for stuff like this, but it's not printable here.
