Edge of my seat..........2007-06-15
I watched this with my daughter and husband and we were at the edge of our seat! The end of the DVD had us *sighing* and saying, "That's it?... where's the second one!" Autumn has a confident and fresh way of bringing the "legend" into your home showing you that "he" is out there! Great job, Autumn! Can't wait for #2!
Still Searching For A Living Legend!.......2007-04-27
The "Women In Sasquatch Research" bonus feature was extremely interesting to me.. There were a lot of facts presented here that I found intriguing. Also the eye-witness encounters are captivating, too.... Of course I was hoping to see actual filmed footage of a Sasquatch! Not just some questionable occurrences during their initial search, darn it! Yet,I still gained a lot of insight through this DVD, as a greenhorn in Bigfoot study and exploration by purchasing this video.
Who knows what we might see in volume 2, and I hope it won't be too long in the making of it... Since I am a member of Autumn's website Oregon Bigfoot, I'm glad I purchased this DVD, for continued research for the (next) "Search For a Living Legend."
Pretty Disappointed.......2007-04-14
So you are in the woods, looking for Sasquatch, filming as you go along, and the first night you hear mysterious sounds below you in a gulch. Do you.
A. Not have any of the wonderful gadgets out of the case ready to use?
B. Stare into the darkness while listening to the knocking of your Videographers knees?
C. Say you have a "vibe" and then listen to the sound again?
D All of the above?
Notice none of the options was to be prepared and do some type of scientific study during this time.
The folks are nice enough, but just when I thought this might get good, they ended it.
All in all I can't for the life of me see what ANYONE would see in this item that would warrent a positive review.
Buyers beware.
The new Horsemen of Sasquatch.......2007-01-30
With the departures of the original Four Horsemen of Sasquatch, as I call them (Krantz - deceased, Dahinden - deceased, Byrne - retired, Green - active but getting on in years); we begin to see the emergence of the new Horsemen taking up the charge. Foremost is Krantz heir apparent, Jeff Meldrum. The freshest breath of air for the new horsemen is none other than Autumn Williams. She has taken on this task after long-term encounters. But onto the DVD:
The DVD is a documentary on research performed by Autumn Williams, one of the few women in the field. While not 'professionally' done, this documentary was largely brought into being by Autumn herself doing the writing, editing, music, and much more and it looks quite well done. I enjoyed the whole main feature of the program but may have liked her "Women in Sasquatch Research" more. The main feature showed a re-enactment of the Bauman story, had 4-6 testimony stories, and a large segment on the beginning of a month long expedition Autumn and her minimal crew engaged in. This segment only covers the first 10 days or so with very little happening. It ends with them deciding to break camp and go to another location which had activity the day before they decide to leave (this actually seems to be the reason they are leaving).
I would like to see an entire segment and re-enactments of her own long-term encounters, as she defines it. It would be quite interesting so I will have to check out the related book "Valley of the Skookum".
Overall, a little dry, but the personalities make up for it, Autumn seems quite dedicated to her research. Her whole crew is likeable and I look forward to Part 2 of the series. The down side of the dvd is it seemed kind of put out just to make some money for further expeditions but since the team doesn't appear to have any big financial or academic backing, I can accept that.
Bigfoot IS out there (just not on this DVD)............2007-01-13
I enjoyed my viewing of this DVD. It isn't the best one I've seen, but it definitely isn't the worst. Probably the best part of the whole DVD is Amber Williams' presentation "Women in Sasquatch Research". My main complaint pertaining to the DVD is the lengthy expedition footage which could have been edited to half its running time (especially since they didn't find anything of any significance whatsoever). That would have allowed additional time for more eyewitness stories and re-enactments of sightings, which were much more interesting. I also must offer my complaint concerning the re-enactment of the Bauman incident that was recorded by Theodore Roosevelt. Historically, this event took place sometime around 1850 when Bauman and his ill-fated trapping partner were relatively young men who would have most likely been packing muzzleloading rifles. Instead of using the two old codgers with modern firearms that the DVD did I don't doubt a pair of buskinners from one of the rendezvous that take place in abundance around the country could have been found who would have been thrilled to portray them. Oh, well, the wisdom of hindsight.....
Despite my complaints, like I said to begin with, I still enjoyed the DVD and my Bigfoot collection is better for its addition. In quality this DVD reminds me a lot of "Rocky Mountain Bigfoot". I don't regret the money I spent. I just wish there'd been a few changes in content.

Not bad.......2007-06-26
Dark Remains is a brave and mostly quite accomplished attempt at a "Grudge"/"Evil Dead" style horror film which works at making you jump but is sadly in need of a good script. A couple named Alan and Julie lose their young daughter when she is brutally and unnaccountably murdered in her bed by persons unknown. The distraught couple move out to a remote cabin in the woods to come to terms with their grief, but it turns out that the cabin is not the most peaceful place for them to be, as several of it's former occupants have died mysteriously, and soon the couple are fighting for their lives and their sanity.
Let me say first off that for a low budget independant production (which I think this is), the film has a lot going for it. If you are of a nervous dispositon and don't like being made to jump, then this film could give you nightmares. Once Alan and Julie arrive at the cabin and start getting spooked, the scare scenes never let up. Ghostly faces appear behind every window or mirror, things drop and clatter on the floor unexpectedly and doors and windows keep opening and closing with no warning. It actually gets quite wearing to be constantly waiting for the next ghoulish figure to pop up over someones shoulder or glide down a distant corridor. However, the ghosts, when they appear are spooky enough, and some of the surprises are very well done. Camera work and frame compostion are very nice, although a lot of it, such as close ups and montages of ordinary things like Julie having a shower or photographing an abandoned prison that happens to be next door to the cabin seem to be little more than attractive padding. It almost seems like there is nothing to do but watch the screen for the next ghost.
This brings me to the films major failing. When the ghosts are not on screen, there simply isn't enough happening. And there isn't much attempt to develop Alan and Julie as human beings. The two leads are competent actors but they barely speak to each other. Despite their relationship since the death of their daughter being crucial to the atmosphere, the conversations between the two are limited to mere scraps of words at a time, such as "I'm going to take more photos" or "I don't feel right here". It's ok that the couple are greiving and not communicating, but as a viewer I needed more insight into their characters to be able to understand their motivations. I could almost see in the eyes of the actress playing Julie the craving to actually have something more significant to say than "I'm tired" or "I don't feel like it", over and over again. Because of the lack of decent conversations or visible personalities in anyone, the film boils down to being an exercise in looking at spooky imagery without having any involvements with the characters being menaced.
So in some ways the film is a failure, and it is crying out for a script to put some intellectual meat on it's scary bones. They could have also added more in the way of explanations, as the story ends with a lot of plot holes still unexplained. I'd probably call the film an overall success due to the scares, particularly some terrific scenes of ghoulish figures falling down stairs, or the phantom of the dead daughter cropping up unexpectedly to the great distress of her mother. It also handles that old chestnut of "characters waking from a dream sequence that we don't know is actually dream at first" pretty well, too. But a bit more attention paid towards giving the actors real characters to work with would have paid off enormously.
A few scares . . . much of the same old and not much else.......2007-06-12
Scares? Yeah, there were a few and, at times, the movie almost lifts itself out of a morass of leaden acting, weak dialogue, I've-seen-this-before-story, and . . . well, how scary are ghosts that never actually hurt anyone? The ghosts pull the usual on-screen antics of silently creeping behind characters, of running across doorways, and appearing behind a character after they've turned away. Most of the scares are when the ghosts jump out at you or crawl and the music bangs and crashes. We're talking Disney Haunted House stuff for most of the journey.
I didn't begin to *get* the character's motivations until late in the last act. Without giving anything away (or any more than I have already), their daughter dies and they move into an isolated home in the hills (though not so isolated that we are never at a loss for neighbors popping in and saying howdy). What follows is dialogue and story below-par with even late night Cinemax fare.
It's a poorly written, poorly directly, poorly shot indie film with a few easy scares. If you can get past that, my wife was grabbing onto me as the ghosts jumped out and ran past. Longtime horror fans, jaded by scores of similar-feeling spooks, will yawn or laugh through much of the movie. Your girlfriend or wife may just gasp and grab for your arm.
Damn scary, great film and new fav of mine........2007-04-28
Rarely does a film come along that I can say was truly scary with so much coming out these days. This film satisfied a long time need of mine in that department. The timing, cinematography and directing were excellent, combined with a overall complimenting score and sounds. The ghosts thruout could easily compete with any ghost film out there...so to summarize this has become a new fav of mine, that I'll recommend to all my friends. If your like me and tired of being let down, then here ya go.....

Scary.......2007-02-27
Well here we have a horror movie thats actually scary. I haven't quite enjoyed a horror movie since I saw Session 9 in 2004. This movie, while similar in some ways (ghosts, big empty building) is nowhere near the psychological terror that Session 9 provided... no this movie thrives on scaring the crap out of you. And it does a very good job of it. This movie has some of the most unique, frightening, jump-outta-your-seat scares. I'm a 23 year old horror buff, i've seen tons of horror flicks and it takes a lot to scare me.. this movie delivered. You're always on the edge of your seat wondering when the next scare is coming.
As for the story, its so-so.. like a said, the scares are the main attraction here. The acting is pretty dull, but for being an indie movie, its about as good as it gets. I recommend watching this one along in the dark while you're home alone. Its such a great feeling when you find a good horror flick...
Dark Remains.......2007-02-06
Truly a scary film. It deserves all the awards that have been bestowed upon it. Loved the behind the scenes stuff. The cover alone makes ones skin crawl. We need more films from these independent film makers. Also, quick delivery by Amazon is to be noted. It was in my mail box before I expected it.

"What kind of a dame are you?".......2005-04-17
In the dreary 1944 crime-thriller "Dark Mountain" clean cut forest ranger, Don Bradley (Robert Lowery) loses childhood sweetheart Kay (Ellen Drew) to thug Steve Downey (Regis Toomey). Kay doesn't know about her husband's sordid career, but when he's exposed, he forces Kay to go on the run with him with the police in hot pursuit. Kay and Steve part ways, and Kay goes to Don for help. Don hides Kay in a remote Dark Mountain cabin, and the plan is that she will wait there until things cool off.
There's a general lack of tension in "Dark Mountain." The film, about 57 minutes long, is fast paced, but really corny scenes involving another ranger's long distance romance and his dog's antics interrupt the action. The elements of a decent crime film are all here, but somehow the film only raises a yawn. Another problem is in the plot itself. Kay doesn't know about her husband's activities, but all is revealed in one clumsy scene with henchman Whitey (Elisha Cook Jr.)
The quality of the DVD is passable--although some scenes are too dark and other scenes are grainy. There are no extras on the DVD--just a scene selection option--displacedhuman.
