Former animator Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Batman, Mars Attacks!) made his feature directorial debut with this delightful comedy, coscripted by the late Phil Hartman (who also appears briefly as a reporter). Wisely, they keep the story simple so as to concentrate on the characters: Pee-wee's most prized possession, his shiny new bicycle, is stolen, and he sets off on an obsessive cross-country journey, determined to recover it. Pee-wee's awkward and childish attempts to be cool and mature ("I meant to do that!!") are hysterical, as when he tells his girlfriend (Elizabeth Daly): "There's things about me you don't know, Dottie. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand.... I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel." Look for Saturday Night Live vet Jan Hooks in a hilarious bit as a tour guide at the Alamo. And beware of Large Marge! --Jim Emerson

Even better than you remember . . . .......2007-09-08
If you haven't seen this one for awhile, please check it out. This film is endlessly inventive and today's kids (who've basically lived in a Pee Wee free zone since Paul Reubens "incident") love the fast-paced and ultra silly nature of it. Well worth checking out if you've got an interest.
It was exactly what I ordered.......2007-09-07
My husband who is currently deployed requested this movie because it was a childhood favorite. No stores I went to had it in stock or even in their inventory. Quick delivery and still in the plastic wrap.
I say we let him go..........2007-08-24
This movie is as funny now as it was 20 years ago...well worth your money.

Description
Bette Midler (THE FIRST WIVES CLUB, BEACHES) and Lily Tomlin (DISNEY'S THE KID, ALL OF ME, 9 TO 5) -- the first ladies of laughter -- star in this critically acclaimed box office hit about two sets of identical twins who are mismatched at birth. Forty years later, their paths cross amid the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, and the result is unrestrained pandemonium. New York's opulent Plaza Hotel is the setting for a wildly hilarious, classic case of mistaken identities, split personalities, and double trouble! With the unparalleled comedic talents of Midler and Tomlin, two's company ... four's a riot!
Customer Reviews:
Rose is Me.......2007-09-02
Big Business is probably my favorite movie ever. Not because it's a brilliant piece of cinematic art, but because it makes me laugh and feel good whenever I watch it. My family and I have been quoting this movie for almost two decades now and still crack up when we re watch it. I can't say enough good things about this movie.
super fun chick flick!.......2007-08-11
It is so much fun to watch these two virtuoso comediennes bounce off each other; and the double identities make it doubly fun. I especially love the contrast between Bette Midler's two characters -- the New York company exec has some truly memorable zingers. The men they all end up with are great too, though I see fireworks down the line for some of them!
It could happen to you.......2007-01-27
Loved this, it could really happen, and I am glad it turned out great!!
Warning: Watch this movie at your own risk!.......2006-09-05
Because you might just die laughing.
A perfect motion picture comedy; watch it alone, with a date, with your parents or your children, everyone's going to feel better after seeing this one.
Hysterically funny!.......2006-07-23
While times have changed in terms of special effects, they certainly did an excellent job pulling this one off. Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin are at their finest in this movie. Great lines, excellent acting and a funny plot make this a must watch movie.

Great DVD Tranfer.......2006-04-23
This, is in my opinion is Elvis's best movie. From the staged performances to the acting and story line, it is still watchable entertainment today. Also this dvd edition has been beautifully restored and the magnificent Technicolor shines.Definetely a must for any Elvis fan.
ELVIS IS & YOU'LL SEE WHY .......2005-05-22
22 MAY 2005 ONCE YOU'VE SEEN THIS FLICK, IT'LL BE OBVIOUS TO THE MOST CASUAL OBSERVER WHY ELVIS IS THE KING OF ROCK&ROLL!!! THE TUNES ARE JUMPIN', & THE HOUSE IS ROCKIN'!!! THIS FLICK SHOWS ELVIS' RISE TO THE TOP, & WHY!!! WHAT IT DOES NOT SHOW IS, THE THIEVERY THAT HAD STARTED IN THE BACK GROUND, BY COL TOM PARKER! WHICH OVER THE YEARS REACHED THE ASTRONOMICAL POINT, TO THE TUNE OF 50% OF ELVIS!!! A BUSINESS MAN, ELVIS WAS NOT! JAILHOUSE ROCK & KING CREOLE, WERE 2 OTHER FLICKS WITH GREAT ELVIS TUNES. G.I. BLUES & BLUE HAWAII, ALSO HAD SOME GOOD ELVIS TUNES. BUT MOST OF THE OTHER ELVIS FLICKS WERE JUST SIMPLY MONEY MAKERS THAT COL TOM PARKER SET UP. THE DOCUMENTARY "THAT'S THE WAY IT IS", SHOWS ELVIS' CREATIVITY, PROFESSIONALISM, & THE MUSICAL PERFECTIONIST THAT HE WAS. AS IN, WE'RE GONNA GET THIS RIGHT FOR THE AUDIENCE, NO MATTER HOW MANY TAKES WE HAVE TO DO!!! FROM THIS FLICK, "LOVING YOU", IN 1957, TO THE LIVE SHOW I SAW IN 1977,,,(i saw elvis on the tommy dorsey show feb 1955 & followed him every since),,, THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER THERE EVER WAS,, THAT'S ELVIS!!! (i just wished that the hangerson would have been smart enough to keep their gravy train on the tracks!!!) IN THIS FLICK, YOU'LL SEE ELVIS' MOTHER IN THE AUDIENCE. SHE IS SO EXCITED, & TAKE NOTE OF HOW SHE IS REALLY INTO HIS MUSIC!!! GREAT FLICK !!!
Terrific movie, PERFECT DVD transfer!.......2004-04-07
First I would like to applaud Lion's Gate Home Entertainment for the perfect job they did with transferring this film to DVD. Having never seen this movie (gasp) before I bought it on DVD, the first thing I noticed was that they not only kept the original "VistaVision" opening sequence, but that the transfer was so flawless as to make it appear that I was watching it from a projector onto the silver screen. Splendid, wonderful, perfect transfer that I could not forget to mention. Sound is awesome as well, 5 stars to YOU, Lion's Gate.
Onto the film. It is true what people say here about the film being almost biographical about Elvis' early years. It is also very dramatic and is a wonderful mix of fun and drama. Here Elvis is still the young, wild stallion, the rebel King. He is lean and mean, and I think he knows it. Set in a smallish town, he is called up on stage to do a number spontaneously and the rest is history. A talent scout in the audience eventually coaxes him to leave behind the world of automobiles to become a musical legend. Trust is a main theme in this movie with Deke Rivers (Elvis) confused about his loyalties, or even if he should trust his own manager. Wow - very biographical come to think of it!
Did I mention how visually stunning the movie is? How beautiful and perfect the color is? Yes I did, but I can't stress it enough. This movie is ear and eye candy, with a great story to match.
Forget Jailhouse Rock.......2003-08-28
This movie is a lot more fun than Jailhouse Rock and Viva Las Vegas. I could almost say it's better than Wild in the Country. They're definitely in competition.
This was before Wild in the Country and he's a better actor in this. Sad Wild came later. Elvis wasn't that good of an actor but he was an entertainer and he succeeds on that level in this movie.
Unlike Wild, this movie moves at a good pace. It is loaded with songs, lipsynced but it's still fun to watch them. Elvis plays a troubled country boy whose talent is discovered by Lizabeth Scott. Even in 1957, Lizabeth was still beautiful. She plays a half villian type role. The noir movies in the 40's were more suited for her but she pulls this off okay. Dolores Hart, who later was cast in "Where the Boys Are", gives a nice performance also as a pretty innocent country girl.
Wild in the Country is unintentionally funny all the way. But if you want a movie more closer to the definition of good I would go for this one. The last ten minutes are quite silly though.
Small town girl, big star boy!.......2003-07-31
"Loving You" is based on a story written by Mary Agnes Thompson from the magazine Good Housekeeping. At the time she wrote the story, the young Oklahoma girl had no idea it would be transformed into the wonderful big screen sensation starring one of the biggest stars in the world. Even though the story seems biographical regarding Elvis, Mary Agnes Thompson knew nothing about him aside from hearing a couple of his songs on the radio. This movie is a must see for all, not only Elvis fans. If you're lucky enough to find a copy of the story, it is worth the read.

William Wyler directed this epic Western, about the clash of East and West, intellect and action. Gregory Peck stars as a sea captain who moves way out West to marry Carroll Baker and become part of the ranch owned by her father (Charles Bickford). But he discovers that daddy's top hand (Charlton Heston) carries a torch for Baker and doesn't particularly like Peck stepping into his place. Peck also finds himself caught in the midst of a power struggle between Bickford and his surly neighbor, Burl Ives (and his reprehensibly bullying son, Chuck Connors). This long, sprawling tale works because its characters are played by movie stars who know how to command the big screen in a big story. --Marshall Fine

Starring Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Jean Simmons, Chuck Connors and Burl Ives (in an OscarÂ(r)-winning** performance), this magnificently entertaining epic will take your breath away with unbridled suspense, exhilarating excitement and explosive drama on a grand scale.
Customer Reviews:
Great movie, bad DVD..........2007-07-30
I got this in the mail from Amazon last week and the Mrs. and I watched it last night.
As a movie, it's one of the classics, no doubt. I was, however, very disappointed with the quality of the DVD presentation. Constant screen flickers, washed out color in corners of the screen and just a generally bad video transfer.
Heck, my old laser disc of this film is of higher quality.
Hope someone decides to produce a decent re-master of this great film as it deserves better.
Now I'm a bit concerned about my recently released copy of Captain Horatio Hornblower, another Gregory Peck classic. I'd hate to see it suffer the same fate as this one.
The Big Country.......2007-07-09
Excellent, Great Movie highly recommend, many dynamics, excellent acting,And story line plenty of action drama romance humor. We wach over and over and never tire if seeing it.
A classic.......2007-07-09
This Is one of my favorite westerns, not just a shoot em up western, a man with strength and courage goes West and turns everybodys life around.
The Big Country - One of the Top 5 Westerns of All Time.......2007-07-03
A first class story, cast and music combine to create one of the top five westerns ever filmed. Burl Ives, Chuck Conners, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker and Charles Bickford are superior in their roles and the theme music stays in your mind.
The Big Country.......2007-06-26
William Wyler's sprawling Western epic is aptly named, since everything about this film is big, including breathtaking panoramas, a close to three hour run time, and a larger-than-life, Oscar-winning performance from singer/actor Burl Ives as a rough-hewn rancher. It feels a trifle leisurely at first, but hold on and you're soon in the grip of this sweeping epic, which offers plentiful doses of romance, suspense, and high emotion. A stolid Peck carries the picture throughout. Also look for TV's Chuck Connors ("The Rifleman", "Branded") in a juicy role as Ives's ne'er-do-well son.

They called 2003 "the year of the blues," but any year that sees another release in the American Folk Blues Festival series is one worth savoring. There's no lack of star power on this, the third volume (the first two were released in, yes, '03) taken from the European tours organized for American blues musicians between 1962 and '69; two fiery tunes by Muddy Waters are included as bonus tracks, Joe Turner is well known from his days with Count Basie, and the finale brings together such estimable perfomers as vocalist Helen Humes, pianist Memphis Slim, guitarist T-Bone Walker, bassist Willie Dixon, and longtime partners Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee. If names like Skip James, Bukka White, Dr. Isaiah Ross, and Son House (all playing in the acoustic Delta style, a sound that's about as raw and real as the blues gets) ring a bell only with serious blues fans, no matter. The performances (including what's purported to be the only extant audio-video footage of harmonica legend Little Walter) are uniformly strong, and the black & white images and strikingly clear sound are once again extraordinary. But this footage is not only a treat in and of itself. It's also music that changed our culture forever, as members of bands like the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, and Led Zeppelin were there to witness it in person.--Sam Graham

IF YOU LIKE THE BLUES..... BUY THIS!!! IT WILL REALLY GROW ON YOU!!!.......2007-08-20
I'v been avoiding writing a review about these dvd's (American Folk & blues festival vol 1, Vol 2, vol 3,) for a while now, mainly because I get so emotional when I think about them. So I wont even try. But I will say this much....The ONLY place in the world where you can see the fabulous T-Bone Walker on dvd... is on these sets (he appears on all 3 volumes). And where else are you gonna see Lonnie Johnson, Shakey Horton, Junior Wells, Big Joe Williams, Willie Dixon, Otis Span, Sonny Boy Williamson, Big Mama Thorton, A very young Buddy Guy, and a very young Hubert Sumlin, Big Joe Turner, Son House, Koko Tayler, Lightnin Hopkins, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Howlin Wolf, AND MANY MORE!!! YOU NEED TO HAVE ALL 3 VOLUMES FOR YOUR COLLECTION!
A wonderful bit of musical history.......2007-03-09
If you like the blues you'll love this DVD. I especially liked the acoustic set with Skip James, Son House & Bukka White. The Black & White is cool and the sound is good.
Amazing early buddy guy.......2007-01-10
buy all 3 volumes - if you are a music fan, this is the origin of the blues.
new to blues.......2006-03-02
I am new to the Blues. I've listened to many songs, from Delta Blues to Chicago Blues, and loved them all. After listening to so many songs, it is nice to put a face to the name. Not only that, but to see and feel the energy of real Bluesmen and women. I absolutely loved this DVD! I'd highly recommend it to anybody looking to start or continue a Blues DVD collection.
They've Done It Again!.......2005-08-25
This dvd is an historical treasure. The product is very high quality in every way. It has some of the earliest films known from some blues artists, as well as some of the only known films of some as well(Little Walter).Everything from the urban blues of Big Mama Thornton, Buddy Guy, Hound Dog Taylor, and Koko Taylor. To the haunting, country blues,of Skip James, Bukka White, and Son House. I particularly like the performance of the famous song " Crow Jane" by Skip James, as well as the extras like the raucous, obscure Earl Hooker, who evokes shades of Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix with his Univox guitar and Sound City amplifier. Buy and enjoy this forgotten legacy!

Judy Garland is at the peak of her charm and appeal as the title character of Presenting Lily Mars. The 19-year-old aspiring actress has great hopes for the future but can't seem to catch a break even when a Broadway producer (Van Heflin) returns to her small Indiana town for a family visit. Undeterred, she follows him to New York and earns a small part and a romance is sparked, but when the leading role unexpectedly opens up, will the talented youngster be ready? Presenting Lily Mars was released in 1943, the same year Garland would do her last collaboration with Mickey Rooney (Girl Crazy) and between her first significant adult roles, For Me and My Gal (1942) and Meet Me in St. Louis (1944). What the movie doesn't have is a lot of great music. Many of the songs are performed by other people, and while the few numbers Garland sings are gold, the songs themselves can't match the Gershwin and Arlen standards in many of her other films. The most notable is Brown & Freed's "Broadway Rhythm," which everyone should recognize from Singin' in the Rain--it's a rousing closer by Garland backed by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra. With Marta Eggerth as Garland's operatic rival, and future jazz singer Annie Ross as Garland's singing and piano-playing younger sister. --David Horiuchi
Description
Presenting Judy Garland! Whether swinging a hot number with Bob Crosby's orchestra or emoting a hilariously hammy version of Lady Macbeth's sleepwalking scene, Judy is a delight as a stage-struck Hoosier in this charming film based on Booth Tarkington's novel. Lily just knows she has the talent to light up the Great White Way, so when a big Broadway producer (Van Heflin) visits her hometown, she expends all the candlepower of her charisma to impress him. He's not impressed. He heads back to New York and Lily follows, thumbing her way east on what she's sure is a one-way trip to instant stardom. At a mere 20 years old, Judy had already reached stardom. Presenting Lily Mars proves why, showcasing her once-in-a-generation voice, gift for comedy and enduring movie magnetism. Break a leg, Lily!

JUDY AT HER MOST BEAUTIFUL.......2007-07-15
This is probably considered one of Judy's "smaller" films, as opposed to Meet Me In St. Louis or The Harvey Girls. But it is so charming and gives you a feeling of wanting to take Judy in yours arms and just hugging her to pieces. At this time in her life, Judy blossomed into beautiful womanhood while still keeping her girl next door appeal. And who wouldn't want Lily Mars living next door to them?! She glows. It's a sparkling performance, played with such a natural ease. The score may not be that memorable, but there are standouts,i.e., When I Look At You, and Tom The Piper's Son. And who could not get misty eyed over Every Little Movement sung by Judy and the wonderful character actress Connie Gilchrist? This is a must for Judy fans. Is it corny? Yeah. Is it fun? Sure. Is it Judy at her young, glamourous, adorable best? ABSOLUTELY!!!!
Where There's Music.......2007-07-07
This is a chick-flick, gals. Oh sure, it was like the MTV of 1943, but these days it has a bit of a feel like "Little Women". You could have a pajama party for your 13-year olds; get the film and the popcorn. This is the first film where MGM did a major glam-job on Judy, and she's looking her prettiest in every way. She's blonde, and very petite, almost frail-looking; the costumers fit her into the cutest, smartest little lady's suits and made her an ingenue. The story line is a little exasperating (which also exasperated Judy). Girl has talent, girl wants to be noticed and loved; girl meets man; girl flirts and becomes the center of attention of an entire dancing-choir; girl has a dramatic conflict with man who marries her and saves her from her family and everything else. (yea...) Film sets are interesting; Judy is full of life and the songs remind you of war-time and, hey what those boys out there are fighting for.
A Dilly of a Movie..........2007-07-04
My Favorite Judy Garland Movie. She is Beautiful and what a voice. My best friends and I get together for his birthday every year and watch this movie while eating his version of Lilys star cake. A must see for all Garland fans.
One of my favorites.......2007-04-04
This is a movie that I had been looking for to come out on DVD. My old VHS was worn out from so many viewings, so I was thrilled to receive this DVD!
This one is a must for any Garland fan.
good little known judy movie .......2007-03-13
I found this movie a long time ago on tape and later on tv. i was glad it came out on dvd. It is a little known Judy movie, but she looks wonderful in it. It is one her funniest movies, she is wonderful of a midwestern girl wanting to be an actress, but has to go where it can happen, New York to live in the "incubator" with her boughten hats. it is a charming film that all Judy Garland fans must see. The ending alone is worth it when she dances beautifully. It was too bad that this and the Clock didn't have a commentary from John Fricke, who knows everything about Judy. It would have a nice bonus.

Great Pleasure.......2005-09-26
I take great pleasure in the ridiculous situations which arise in this family and the dog. They make me laugh. I find this dog pleasant and congenial, so I love every one of his films.
just plain fun.......2005-06-04
I don't know why so many people have a problem with this movie. Maybe the lack of gratutitious sex, violence, and foul language. Maybe they just need to get in touch with their inner child. It's just good clean fun, and I can watch it over and ever.
great movie!.......2004-11-18
if you are a dog lover this movie is for you fun and full of excitment
My 4 yr old granddaughter.......2004-02-29

Description
Dennis Quaid stars as Art Long, a Fort Worth tree trimmer by day and struggling Country singer by night. But when he enters a local Toughman Contest, he discovers that he may have a knack for knockouts. Now with the help of his street-smart corner man (Stan Shaw of SNAKE EYES) and a crafty promoter (Warren Oates in his final film role), Art is headed to the National Finals in Detroit where all he'll have to do is beat up five guys in one night on national television to win $100,000, a recording contract, and the title of Toughest Man In America. Even if Art is crazy enough to try, will he be tough enough to win it all? Pam Grier and Wilford Brimley co-star in this wild action-comedy directed by Oscar® winner Richard Fleischer (TORA! TORA! TORA!, CONAN THE DESTROYER) and featuring songs by T.G. Sheppard, Mickey Gilley and Dennis Quaid.
