Zachariah Coop is a cheating card player who has been chased out of town. Holly Smith and her brother, Jason, are orphans on their way to Oregon to claim 400 acres of land. Their paths cross, and Zachariah promptly steals one of their horses. But these are resourceful and strong children--they chase him and take back their horse. Then they discover that each has something the other can use. Zachariah has knowledge of the land, and the Smith children's horse provides Zachariah a means of escape. A shaky alliance is formed, and they decide to go over the Rocky Mountains to Oregon. It is a perilous journey that brings them face to face with cougars, bears, a snowstorm, unfriendly Native Americans, and more. But all these travails end up making them dependent on each other. In the end, the experience bonds them into a family. This outdoor adventure saga takes place in the year 1876. The setting is the beautiful western plains and the Rocky Mountains. A Great Family Movie.......2007-02-14

Another great family film and it was the first of four starring Robert Logan who in this film plays the role of Gambler Zachariah Coop, Heather Rattray plays the role of Holly Smith and Mark Edward Hall plays the role of Jason Smith. Coop who's on horse back is running from 6 men who are looking to skin him alive. After Coop loose, his horse he runs into Holly and Jason Smith who's on their way to Oregon. Coop tries to hook up with the kids but they don't trust him. Therefore, Across the Great Divide the kids go with Mr. Coop following them. The Kids deal with many hazards while on their way and the only question that remains, do they make and is Mr. Coop with them. The movie it's self I would give a six however, when you add in the country and its beauty through out the movie then this movie jumps to a 9. This was the first of three films that Heather Rattray did with Robert Logan and Rattray when on years later to play Victoria Newman on the Young and The Restless Soap Opera.

I love the Wilderness and Nature in this Film.......2003-09-12

The movie is filled with scenes of wild animals and nature! These are what make the movie worthwhile to watch. I love the outside so this movie can bring that to you if you have been in the house or worked and haven't had the opportunity to surround yourself with nature. I would love to British Columbia and the Uinta Mountains of Utah where this was filmed. The story line is kind of plain and simple. A bank robber who is a professional gambler is on the run. He finds two kids alone trying to make it to Oregon and hooks up with them after many trys to win them over. It is a good kids film! If you like Little House on the Praire, it has similarities. Another movie like this could be The Wilderness Family.

Inspiring for Children.......2000-07-12

I recall this one from my cable TV junkie days. As a child it opened my eyes a bit to the fact that there was a world beyond the suburbs. The children in this movie conquer obstacles far greater than acquiring designer clothes. I'll update my review after I watch it with my kids... it's been quite a few years since I've seen it. I still remember the music, though.

Description

After stopping a bank robbery, Wayne is deputized by Hayes and goes undercover to catch criminals who are using a rodeo to cheat unsuspecting cowboys. In a horse-riding rodeo contect, the bad guys try to coerce John into losing on purpose. When he refuses, they add some insurance: a poisoned needle hidden just under his horse's saddle. Will Wayne survive the ride? John also manages to fall for a girl along the way who gets jealous when she thinks John is after the other girl, who in reality is an accomplice of the ring leader.

Better than its boring title.......2004-05-12

Dale Evans is the singer of an all girl band. She goes to Utah to sell her grandfather's ranch, that way her band will have money to put on their show. Only Roy isn't pleased with this, so he lies to her about its location. Add Gabby Hayes, romance, and some bad guys and this is an enjoyable Roy Rogers movie. Dale is very cute in this movie and she has a few solo numbers. The only thing that doesn't seem quite right with this movie is the change of her hair from brunette to blonde with no explanation.

This is another western travelogue that I'm glad I purchased. This time around it's all about Utah and features many, many scenes of beautiful desert landscapes and vistas. It's all very well shot and the film quality is out of this world. Its such a contrast to the scenery I look at every day and I was very, very impressed.

i live in the Netherlands and visit in 2005 America,i visit M Valley and sleep one night in a Hogan ,my wife and i will never forget, this DVD with great views, will be one great memory for us.
