Elvis plays Rusty Wells, the leader of a four-piece rock group, consisting of Gary Crosby, Joby Baker and Jimmy Hawkins. Hired by Chicago gangster boss Big Frank (Harold J. Stone) to protect the virtue of Frank's cute daughter Valerie (Shelley Fabares), Rusty and his buddies follow Valerie to Fort Lauderdale during Spring Break. The girl falls in love with Rusty, then falls out of love when she learns that he's in her dad's employ. Valerie then becomes involved with a slick Italian playboy (Fabrizio Mioni), forcing Rusty to break up the romance lest he end up in a cement overcoat.

My Best Elvis Movie ........2007-09-17
THIS WAS MY FAVORITE ELVIS MOVIE OF ALL TIME . MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE SONGS . GREAT SONGS IN THIS MOVIE THAT REALLY GO WITH THE MOVIE .
Horrible delivery .......2007-09-17
The product(a movie) was sent with the wrong address label and it was without a return to sender label. The item has yet to arrive because it has gone from USPS Recovery Center to other Centers. I would not reccommend you buy from this user.
Girl Happy with Chris Noel.......2007-09-14
You know what makes this movie so good ?? It's Chris Noel who did so much for our troops in Vietnam and continues to support the VETERANS today !! She's been an outstanding advocate of the AMERICAN VETERAN for many years and we're so thankful for all she has done. She realized a long time ago what's important to OUR nation and that's the AMERICAN VETERAN. God bless her and help her to continue her very important work.

MY FAVORITE ELVIS MOVIE!!!!.......2007-08-16
This is by far my favorite Elvis movie to date. It's just such a fun spring break movie with girls, beaches and most importantly, Elvis. I have been watching this movie since I was kid. My grandmother was a huge fan and loved watching his movies and got me into, not only his music but also his movies. I have been searching over the last few years for this on DVD. And now the day has finally come, it's here YEAH!!!!
FINALLY!!!.......2007-08-16
Yes, FINALLY!! I'm not quite sure why this particular Elvis film took
so long to get to DVD, but instead just say "thank you" Warner Home Video, for finally making it so!
This is one of my favorite Elvis films of all time. Why? I'm not really sure. It's the "typical" Elvis formula flick (you know, paper-thin plot,
pretty girls, Elvis lip-synching to a song every (seemingly) 5 or 10 minutes, etc., etc., etc.). However, therein probably lies the very reason why this one for me stands out (just a bit), from Elvis's others.
The year is 1965. The country wasn't yet divided over that "unfortunate
situation" brewing in southeast Asia (U.S. troop strength up until this year, was relatively small), NASA was well on it's way to turning the corner on the way to "victory" in the space race, and life, for most
Americans was pretty good.....
What could make it better? April 14 held the answer. This was the release date for "Girl Happy". Elvis, at the peak of his movie career,
looks and sounds great! Add to this one of his most enticing female
co-stars, Shelley Fabares (possibly second only to Ann-Margaret), fold-in a light-weight, fun plot "set" (on sound stages, anyway) in Fort Lauderdale, FL at spring break, and sprinkle in a generous helping of frothy, playful Elvis tunes from start to finish.
Okay, a great film it ain't; but a deliciously fun "guilty pleasure" nonetheless.
For those fond of Elvis throw this one on, kick back with a bowl of popcorn, a favorite beverage, and bask in the glow of simpler times
gone by! Enjoy, one and all!!

The winner of 10 Academy Awards, this 1961 musical by choreographer Jerome Robbins and director Robert Wise (The Sound of Music) remains irresistible. Based on a smash Broadway play updating Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to the 1950s era of juvenile delinquency, the film stars Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer as the star-crossed lovers from different neighborhoods--and ethnicities. The film's real selling points, however, are the highly charged and inventive song-and-dance numbers, the passionate ballads, the moody sets, colorful support from Rita Moreno, and the sheer accomplishment of Hollywood talent and technology producing a film so stirring. Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim wrote the score. --Tom Keogh
Description
This brilliant (The New Republic) film sets the ageless story of Romeo and Juliet against a backdrop of gang warfare in 1950s New York. Directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins and scripted by Ernest Lehman, the film combines Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim's unforgettable score ( Maria, America, 'somewhere, 'tonight ) with Robbins own exuberant choreography to achieve an exhilarating work of art (Saturday Review). A love affair is fated for tragedy amidst the vicious rivalry of two street gangsthe Jets and the Sharks. When Jets member Tony (RichardBeymer) falls for Maria (Natalie Wood), the sister of the Sharks leader, it's more than these two warring gangs can handle. And as mounting tensions rise, a battle to the death ensues, and innocent blood is shed in a heartbreaking finale.
Customer Reviews:
Greatest American Musical.......2007-09-16
Inarguably "West Side Story" is the greatest American musical film ever, hands down. "Singing in the Rain" is the greatest musical without stage origins but "West Side Story" transcends it's stage roots to far surpass any other musical. The stars alligned for this film and it works on all cylinders. Where to begin. Robert Wise's direction is fluid. Jerome Robbins' choreography is vibrant and life affirming. The music score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is transcendent without a bum note in the bunch. Boris Leven's spare but evocative art direction is a marvel to behold. The performances here are a marvel to behold. Russ Tamblyn, Richard Beymer, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris are simply brilliant. The film took some flack for casting a non-Latina, Natalie Wood(a non-singer as well), as Maria but I think that's overstated. Wood's casting may smack of commercial considerations but she was one of the finest actresses of her generation and is more than adequate here. Viewing "West Side Story" is mandatory for any serious student of American film, musical or otherwise.
WEST SIDE STORY IS THE WINNER OF 10 ACADAMY AWARDS INCLUDING BEST PICTURE IN 1961!.......2007-09-04
I am writing a review on the legendary landmark musical film entitled "WEST SIDE STORY" starring three of Hollywood's all-time greatest movie icons ever. I give you the late great and always beautiful NATALIE WOOD, RICHARD BEYMER and RITA MORENO. "WEST SIDE STORY" was originally released in 1961 by MGM/UA Motion Pictures.
Three days ago I wrote my last review on NATALIE WOOD'S last ever film entitled "BRAINSTORM" from 1983. However, I could not end my series of NATALIE on a bad note so I figured that I would write one more review on her in order to end my series on her on a better note. Throughout her incredible career, NATALIE WOOD has given us so many great legendary films to remember her by but I feel that the film that I'm about to review for all of you today will pretty much sum up her brilliant career in spectacular form. Again, as THE LATE GREAT ONE JACKIE GLEASON once said, "and away we go!"
When "WEST SIDE STORY" was released in 1961, this film was far ahead of its time. It actually took musicals into a different level and dimension unimagined. Who would have ever believed that rival gangs in 1950's New York would be turned into a beautiful and romantic Romeo & Juliet musical? The acting and dancing choreography in "WEST SIDE STORY" was so spectacular that the film won 10 Acadamy Awards including Best Picture for 1961.
"WEST SIDE STORY" is the romantic Romeo & Juliet love story of a guy and a girl that are separated and torn apart by their rival gangs. WOOD and BEYMER star as the star-crossed lovers from different neighborhoods and ethnicities. WOOD stars as the sister of the rival sharks gang leader and BEYMER stars as the rival jets gang member that WOOD falls for.
As for the acting, MGM/UA couldn't have chosen three more talented actors to portray the roles than NATALIE WOOD, RICHARD BEYMER and RITA MORENO. In my opinion, WOOD was perfect for the role. Her acting performance was taken to a different level that not even she could have ever imagined. BEYMER's performance supported and complimented WOOD perfectly. Lets not forget RITA MORENO'S performance. Her dancing was magnificent. MORENO complimented and backed up both WOOD and BEYMER in more ways than one. I have read that all three stars' voices were dubbed and were not their actual real singing voices. Despite that, their singing performances could have fooled me. And to add more, the fighting dance choreography scenes between both gangs were incredible. "WEST SIDE STORY" was one great realistic musical film, no wonder the film won 10 Academy Awards.
I highly recommend "WEST SIDE STORY" for everyone of all ages to watch and enjoy. As long as films are still around, "WEST SIDE STORY" will live on forever and will never be forgotten. "WEST SIDE STORY" has proven to stand the test of time indeed. So here's to you my late great sweet NATALIE, RICHARD and RITA. May you always rest in peace NATALIE. Thanks for reading my review and I truly hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also deeply hope that you will continue in reading all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. NATALIE WOOD FOREVER! R.I.P. NATASHA NIKOLAEVNA ZACHARENKO A.K.A. NATALIE WOOD, Born 20 July 1938, Died 27 November 1981 at age 43. Forever in Entertainment, John L.
I was never a fan of this movie..........2007-08-05
due to some facts: The fullscreen version in the 80s ruined its composition, the regrettably red filter they use when Tony meets Maria, the dialogue is "50s" and that it would have been GREAT to remake it in a manner more sinister, more dark manner...
Some dance-sequences survive(America), as do the four young stars....
But it they do remake it; be sure to get SINGIN` talents as well in the leads... Dubbing is a low form indeed.....
yes.......2007-08-03
It is great. I bought it as a gift because of the extra info and it is well worth the extra investment the info is awsome so is the many story. A winner
West Side Story.......2007-07-02
Adapted by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins from the long-running Broadway play, this triumphant production combines a brilliant score and jaw-dropping choreography with a heart-rending tale of doomed love. The leads work well together, with Wood particularly effective, but supporting players Russ Tamblyn (as Jet leader Riff), Chakiris and Rita Moreno (as Bernardo's sassy girlfriend Anita) virtually eclipse the stars with their intense moves and portrayals. This vibrant film is also elevated by an unsurpassed, evergreen Bernstein/Sondheim score. Winner of a staggering ten Oscars, including Best Picture.

Elvis hadn't dyed his hair a permanent midnight black yet in Follow That Dream, which is another way of saying this is still the point in his career when he was making movies, not just Elvis Presley vehicles. Elvis road-trips with his crabby, anti-government pop (Arthur O'Connell) and an adopted brood to a Florida beach, which by a legal quirk they can homestead. The authorities and some fairly unbelievable gangsters would like to stop them. The songs are undistinguished but not awful, the scenery is nice, and Elvis--looking well-fed and relaxed--shows off good comedic chops doing a dumb-guy shtick. Screenwriter Charles Lederer and director Gordon Douglas are a class act by Presley picture standards, keeping the sitcom-style plot moving along. No fancy clothes or cars in this one, just Elvis and some beachcombing and an old git-tar, and not a bad time-killer for all that. --Robert Horton

Though he just wants to play his guitar, Toby finds himself up to his baby blues in trouble with government bureaucrats, crime bosses and even two smitten "kittens"an adopted little sister who feels more than sisterly love for him and a social worker with more than his welfare on her mind!
Customer Reviews:
Elvis' best movie.......2007-06-27
I believe this is the best movie that Elvis ever made.
Has a few good laughs in it, and Elvis sings one of my favorite
Elvis songs "Follow that Dream". If you like Elvis, watch this
movie.
Happiness is -To Follow that Dream.......2007-03-29
The story of a squatter family is a rollicking success. Arthur O'Connell as the pappy is hilarious. The dialogue is cleaver and Elvis plays the roll of an innocent, not very well educated young beefcake to perfection. The laughter starts as the movie begins to roll and continues throughout. There are not many songs in the movie by Elvis does sing the beautiful "Angel" to a starry eyed Anne Helm. I found that the 97 minutes flew by and the movie had a "feel good" effect on me. The true sign of good entertainment.
Follow That Dream.......2007-01-18
This is a delightful musical comedy depicting that truth and honesty is a virtue that can win out over greed and corruption. A great film for the whole famiily which will leave you humming its beautiful music
A great family film........2006-11-12
Based on the book Pioneer Go Home, Follow That Dream is an innocent romp through the wilds of mid-century Florida. Ride along with the Kwimper family as they confound everyone from the politicos to the mob on their way to the American dream. A suitable gift for Mom's birthday.
A whole new light on time tables 1+1 equals 2, 2 +2 equals 4, and so on!!.......2006-03-21
I really enjoyed this movie. I personally rank it third after my all time favourite Blue Hawaii coming in at number one, and G.I. Blues at number two.
I love the story line, it's refreshing to watch, and is one the whole family can enjoy together.
If you don't have a copy already in your collection, you should buy one, as you won't be disappointed.

Novelist Leon Uris wrote the script for this Western directed by John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven) and based on the life and times of Wyatt Earp (Burt Lancaster) and his sickly companion, Doc Holliday (Kirk Douglas). The action inevitably leads to the legendary battle between the two heroes and the villainous Clanton gang, but the film is also very much about the conflicts each man faces with women, with one another, and with their own destinies. Lancaster is terrific as the downbeat Earp, and Douglas has one of his best roles as the consumptive Holliday. The thoughtfulness of the tale is matched by Sturges's captivating way with the dramatic duel. All in all, the film appeals both as a solid action piece and as a fascinating, two-character study. --Tom Keogh

VERY subtle in comparison to "Tombstone" or "Wyatt Earp," but still solid.......2007-09-13
If you've seen and enjoyed "Tombstone" or "Wyatt Earp" before watching "Gunfight At The OK Corral," I'm not sure what you'll think of it. "Tombstone" was like a raw nerve stretched out over a couple of hours and featured career-best performances from Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer and Powers Boothe.
In "Gunfight," Burt Lancaster's Wyatt Earp is less complex and not as tightly defined. Kirk Douglas approaches Holiday from the standpoint of a man who knows he's dying, and...despite his outward apathy toward most things other than a hand of poker...probably cares more about justice than Earp himself.
The gunfight itself...especially in comparison to the Armageddon of "Tombstone"...is a standard 1950s Western movie gunfight.
The end...no spoilers here...is nowhere near as satisfying and there's not the same sense of closure as you saw in "Tombstone."
A "good"...not "great" Western for your Saturday afternoon home matinee. If you like this one you should also check out "My Darling Clementine"...yet another OK Corral film...with Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp and Walter Brennan as "Old Man Clanton." It's worth watching just to good-guy Brennan play against type.
Watch "Tombstone" or "Wyatt Earp" instead.......2007-08-01
Both my husband and I found this film to be a groaner and will probably take it to the used store for trade in. It's not one we will watch again or recoomend.
We found three major flaws in this film:
It opens with hokey 70's soundtrack music that's the Western equivalent for disco in the vein of lyrical content. The instrumental soundtrack was similarly intrusive and annoying.
The producers literally stole a scene from the film's predecessor, "My Darling Clementine." In both films, during a fight someone shoots down the candalabra in the saloon and thus sets the place on fire while the piano play shifts to eight-to-the-bar happy music. That might have been a grand scene for "Clementine" but this could have been more original.
And while we're at it, in 1881, there was no "Oklahoma City" for a gunfight to take place in.
Only just OK.......2007-06-19
Great title. Raises hopes and anticipation, but somehow winds up with a sense of disappointment. Difficult to know exactly why, but I'm with the 3 star reviewers on this one. Burt and Kirk are colossal movie stars, with charisma to spare, but they didn't convince me, in any way, that this is what Earp and Holliday were like in reality. They were too good to be true, and that was part of the trouble. The whole set-up was artificial. The clothes were too much, and much too expensive: Edith Head had a bit of a field day. The film has its moments, but many scenes seemed exaggerated: theatrical and operatic. In fact, everything was overstated, including the music, the pacing and the scenery. Must be something to do with the mid-1950s Hollywood film-making style. Still, it's watchable.
a great movie for every boby........2007-06-15
one of burt lancasters an kirk douglases movies. i injoy this cd, i could whach all the time.
Gave the Western some class.......2006-11-18
Burt Lancaster is Wyatt Earp and Kirk Douglas is Doc Holliday in this take on the famous gunfight in Tombstone, Arizona, between the Earps and the Clantons. To its credit the movie is more concerned with the relationship between Earp and Holliday than with the gunfight, though the shootout is well done and pretty exciting. As usual the movie is not too concerned with historical details, but the mythology presented is typical of most good Hollywood westerns. Both Douglas and Lancaster have a quiet dignity about them in their characters, and they make for compelling viewing. Lancaster helps Douglas when he's about to be lynched and later again when Dodge City citizens are about to run him out of town - and Douglas is there for Lancaster when he's most needed. It's a highly entertaining movie, thanks to the strong script written by Leon Uris. Beautifully photographed, too.

No studio was better than Darryl Zanuck's 20th Century-Fox at dishing out lovingly textured Americana, of which this movie is a prime example. The outlaw gets canonized as an American Robin Hood, an honest farmer who, with post-Civil War Missouri overrun by corrupt agents of the Railroad, had no choice but to start robbing banks and trains to achieve a measure of social justice the System wouldn't provide. Tyrone Power as Jesse is quietly out-acted by Fox's emerging star Henry Fonda as brother Frank. The supporting cast is solid--Randolph Scott, Nancy Kelly, Brian Donlevy, John Carradine (as Bob Ford), Jane Darwell, Donald Meek--but the liveliest thing in the movie is Henry Hull, playing a newspaperman whose editorials invariably prescribe that whomever he's denouncing be "taken out and shot like dawgs." Fonda, Hull, and Carradine re-created their roles the following year in The Return of Frank James. --Richard T. Jameson
Description
The legend of Jesse James stars Tyrone Power as the most infamous bandit in the history of the West. Jesse James was a young Missouri farmer forced outside the law after ruthless agents for the transcontinental railroad kill his ailing mother and steal his family's land. Together with his brother Frank (Henry Fonda), Jesse forms a gang of masked outlaws to strike back at the railroad company and the banks that have joined forces to swindle the oppressed farmers.

I had seen this movie back in 1939 and have always considered it a
good movie for Tyrone Power. It is just a good western and feel it

just holds your interest.
Jesse James 1939.......2007-07-02
With his gun a-blazing : he galloped out of the Ozarks and into the page of American folk history : Jesse James (1847 - 1882) , the bold bandit whose name became synonymous with train hold-ups , dayligt bank heits and every other aredecil crime associated with the lawaless west of the 1800s !. Tyrone Power (1914-1958) , the movie's most popular leading man in 1939 , stars as Jesse James , a young missouri farmer forced outside the law after ruthless agent ( Brian Donlevy 1901-1972) for the coming transcontinental railroad agent kill his ailling mother and steal his family land . Together with brother Frank James (1843-1915) played by Henry Fonda (1905-1982) , Jesse James forms a gang of masked outlaws to strike back at the railroad company and the banks that have joined forced to swindle the oppressed farmers . Shot in Technicolor on location in the ozarks where the real-life robbers rode . Jesse James explodes with drama action and frontier desperate spirit . High Quality Transfer .
Hollywood Biography.......2007-06-23
After the Civil War the transcontinental railroads were built to link the West with the East. The film shows how railroad agents swindled people to sign over their land for a low price. If they didn't sell their land would be taken from them (eminent domain?). [The film omits the fact that the James brothers rode with William Quantrill's Raiders.] Jesse James calls for a meeting with the other farm owners. They will get a lawyer to defend them. But the railroad agents swear out a complaint and get deputized to eliminate the James problem. The film shows the bombing of the James home and the death of their mother. Jesse James takes revenge on the railroad agent, and becomes a wanted man. [St. Louis was pro-Union, the rural regions were mostly pro-Confederate.]
The St. Louis Midland Railroad is drawn by a classic 4-4-0 locomotive, but the coaches are more modern. A lone rider hops onto the last car and gets to halt the train. A gang robs the passengers in the coaches. [The James gang invented train robbery, but they never applied for a patent.] Civilization has brought lawyers to the county, and a newspaper owner rants against them. [In fact lawyers were among the earliest pioneers, they handled deeds, loans, and other legal work.] Jesse is warned about the path he's taken; killing and robbing will make him mean. Jesse marries Zerelda and surrenders to the US Marshal. But Jesse is double-crossed, the railroad owner gets martial law declared and a new judge will hang Jesse. Frank arranges to break Jesse out of jail. They are chased and throw out dollars that stops their pursuers so they can escape. Jesse and Zerelda are moving from town to town. [There is a hint as to Jesse's occupation.]
Jesse and Zerelda have a son. Zee returns to her home town. The governor offers an amnesty to anyone who will kill Jesse James, plus the reward. The planning for the Northfield bank job shows Jesse's mean streak. He is also taking too many risks. [This film creates the fiction that the Northfield bank got a warning so they prepared an ambush. The truth is that the well-armed citizens had no warning until somebody was shot by the bank.] The rapidly armed citizens greatly outnumbered the James gang and ended their robberies. Jesse James would never rob another bank. Bob Ford visited Jesse to tell about an easy bank job. The children's playing foretells the ending. [There is no mention of the Younger brothers.]
"If we're gonna have law and order in the West..................2007-06-02
......the first thing we gotta do is take all the lawyers and shoot 'em down like dogs!"
"Jesse James" starring Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda has been a DVD on my short list of "must-haves" for a number of years. And, it was worth the wait! The audio and video quality, as well as the packaging are wonderful. This is one of those special motion picture jewels from 1939 - It truly was a VERY GOOD year - the year many call the Golden Year of Hollywood. But this movie has often been lost in the accolades heaped upon the others - "The Wizard of OZ", "King Kong", and "Gone With the Wind" - just to name a few. The performances here are top notch, which is a given for the stars (Power & Fonda), but is reinforced by the incredible supporting cast, most notably including Randolph Scott, Brian Donlevy, Nancy Kelly and John Carradine (as the "coward" who shot Mr. Howard). But the star among stars here is Henry Hull. The sheer fun of his tongue-in-cheek performance as the curmugeon newspaper editor, who is always chomping at the bit to dictate his next scathing editorial, should not be missed. A must see for young and old alike - a classic that truly stands the test of time.
Jesse James According to Hollywood.......2007-05-16
The film Jesse James is a superb Hollywood story of the folklore view of Jesse James. The transfer to DVD is sadly lacking in many respects. Colors are not enhanced, it is too dark in many spots, and the images are doubled in some instances. My VHS copy is better than the DVD. But this movie still remains the best of the Jesse James movies, simply due to such fine actors as Tyrone Power and Henry Fonda. Randolph Scott and Henry Hull have excellent, scene-stealing support roles.

Before making the original Halloween into one of the most profitable independent films of all time, John Carpenter directed this riveting low-budget thriller from 1976, in which a nearly abandoned police station is held under siege by a heavily armed gang called Street Thunder. Inside the station, cut off from contact and isolated, cops and convicts who were headed for death row must now join forces or die. That's the basic plot, but it's what Carpenter does with it that's remarkable. Drawing specific inspiration from the classic Howard Hawks Western Rio Bravo (which included a similar siege on disadvantaged heroes), Carpenter used his simple setting for a tense, tightly constructed series of action sequences, emphasizing low-key character development and escalating tension. Few who've seen the film can forget the "ice cream cone" scene in which a young girl is caught up in the action by patronizing a seemingly harmless ice cream truck. It's here, and in other equally memorable scenes, that Carpenter demonstrates his singular knack for injecting terror into the mundane details of daily life, propelling this potent thriller to cult favorite status and long-standing critical acclaim. --Jeff Shannon
Description
In this unrelenting action masterpiece from director John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York), a police station under siege from a vicious street gang becomes a cataclysmic battleground where only the strongest survive! Inspired by Howard Hawks' immortal western, Rio Bravo, this explosive gem from one of cinema's great frightmasters has been newly remastered with a host of high-powered extras!

Carpenter Turns The Corner.......2007-06-18
How many movies do you remember seeing back in a different lifetime that you thought were really cool only to check 'em out in the current day and find that they really were average at best? Don't worry...Assault on Precinct 13 is not one of those movies.
There's just something about movies made before the early 80s that just scream, "this-movie-was-made-a-long-time-ago." And Assault on Precinct 13 does too. 31 years is a long time, but after watching Assault on Precinct 13 again this past weekend for the first time since 1976, I was surprised to see how affective the movie still is.
This is one of the first R-rated movies that my dad took me to. So I chalked up the memorable impression that Assault on Precinct 13 made on me to...well...being an impressionable 15 year old kid that was just excited to being going to an R-rated film. Who knew that the reason was really that back in 1976 I was watching the movie that turned the corner for Director John Carpenter from B-movie director to one of the best Horror/Action/Sci-fi storytellers of all time?
The story is simple and the acting is pretty good. Some guy and his daughter have the unfortunate experience of crossing paths at the wrong time in the wrong place with a violent street gang. After a brutal exchange between family and gang, the guy retreats to Precinct 13 with the gang close behind, and the Assault ensues. (I'm not much into spoilers, so my vagueness is deliberate. I will say that the intense ice cream truck scene stayed in my mind for 31 years as if I'd seen it a day ago.)
The movie is presented in a nice widescreen aspect, but the audio is only stereo (which you won't even notice unless you have a Surround system). The tinny stereo sound was a constant reminder throughout that I was watching an "old" movie.
Overall, though, this classic cult film is worth a look...especially since Jean-François Richet's 2005 remake Assault on Precinct 13 (Widescreen Edition) was only fair at best.
Masterpiece!.......2007-03-24
A lot of social and political commentary relevant to todays culture. A lot of gray area amongst the characters. The 2 inmates were "heroes" when they had to be. Also, the element of police "overreaction" to gang members at the beginning which led to an assault on a police precinct. It's surprising you don't hear about precinct assaults in the news. You get enough disenchanted people together, much damage can be done. Their mentality is a lot like terrorists today with the "martyr" attitude towards their cause. This flick and Stallone's "Nighthawks" unfortunately depicted what the world has become today with enough disenchanted people in this world to make each and everyone of us vulnerable whether we are in a department store or on a lonely nature trail. I refuse to see the remake that was released. This movie is classic and everyone should see once with an open mind. The "Ice Cream" scene is also reality and was considered too graphic 30 years ago. Hear about needless shootings everyday here in Buffalo, can't imagine what major cities encounter.
Cool movie.......2006-09-19
This is one of my personal favorites. And after seeing the new version I wont say one is really better than the other. This one is much darker than its successor. The darker setting will actually send chills down your spine. The shoot outs are very graphic and intense. However this movie does send a frightening thought. What could happen really, if a motivated street gang as shown in this movie today, were able to get their hands on heavy armaments such as this. I seriously doubt it would be something pretty. Anyway, this is one of the best cop movies I ever seen and I recommend seeing this at least once. The newer version is worth a watch also.
disturbingly super!.......2006-08-25
this movie far exceeds its later edition. this edition is disturbing, but excellent. the violence, the gore, everything is heart-pounding.
Awesome.......2006-07-04
if you consider when it was done this movie has not aged that badly. It is a fantastic movie even if you did not take into account the shoestring budget it was made on. The tension is unbelievable as the police station is being attacked by the faceless gang. As many have written the motives are not entirely clear besides revenge against the police for executing gang members at the beginning, following which the remaining gang members go on a killing spree. The remake was unfortubnately a catastrophe but this remains to this day a classic. Also the comments by John Carpenter are great to listen to in retrospect.

Description
Packed with sight gags and unexpected hair-raising action sequences, this entertaining comedy adventure stars Daniel Stern as bumbling deliveryman "Mad Max" Grabelski. Accused of murder when a scatter-brained get-rich-quick scheme backfires, he heads for the hills with the cops on his trail. But once there, he's mistaken for a world famous Scout leader and suddenly finds himself supervising six Ranger Scouts on their first overnight expedition.
Customer Reviews:
I've made a "Stern" descision..........2007-01-17
That this DVD rules. haha. It is so cheesey and so 90's style quality family cinema. Very "Home Alone"ish style (not just because of Stern) movie, and super predictable! Get into it!
Random Camping.......2006-09-09
If I were to compare this movie to any other movie it would be to the more recent "Without A Paddle." Although the plots are quite different, both involve a wacky portrayal of camping in the wilderness... so wacky as to seem almost completely random or incoherent in terms of how people actually deal with real outdoor situations. Both movies are ridiculous in this regards, but they are comedies and so it's possible, although at times difficult, to forgive their extravagence in this regards. What holds the movies together are the characters, plots, and, most of all, the humor. "Bushwacked" wins out over "Without A Paddle" in the humor department. There are several routines that are over-the-top (almost reminiscent of something you might see in a "South Park" episode), and which might be considered inappropriate by some since child actors are involved, but I say to heck with the prudes. "Bushwacked" is a fun movie with lots of good gags and very nearly worth each and every one of the four stars I rated it at!
TENDERFOOTS TRIUMPH.......2005-10-15
A manic Daniel Stern stars in this entertaining, if derivative, "family" comedy. Stern stars as a delivery man who is set up for the murder of banker and while on the lam manages to be mistaken for a scout leader for a misguided troop of ranger scouts. The movie--and Stern---sometimes strain to make us laugh, but the movie does have some humorous moments, and Stern while certainly not in the league of such actors as Jim Carrey or Steve Martin, struggles hard to make us care about him and his predicament. Should entertain the family on a chilly autumn night.
PG at it's worst.......2005-09-10
This movie though rated PG is full of sexual comments and profanity. Daniel Stern even says Fu------dge. Unless you want your children to be taught the birds and the bees from a deviant loser I would steer clear of this Movie. In one scene all the boys are peeing on a man below for an extended amount of time. The children in it are entertaining overall, but Stern is an overboard actor. He is obviously acting the whole time, nothing about it is natural. The children do a decent job acting.
If you are getting this for children, I would pick a different movie. I pitched my copy in the trash
Family Funny Show.......2005-08-30
Enjoyed the wholesomeness and well acted players. Fun movie to watch with older children. Lots of adventure and silliness.

Description
A comic battle of wills and an outrageous test of endurance ensues when this trio is grudgingly assigned to keep vigil -- as unobtrusively as possible -- in a small, upscale resort community. Pretending to be an average American family on vacation, it's an unlikely domestic arrangement at best. But, like a typical family, they're stuck with one another. Trying to convincingly play house while keeping an eye on the home of their unsuspecting neighbors, this dysfunctional clan of incompatible companions is at one another's throats as they await the appearance of a missing witness for the state's case against a Las Vegas mob boss. And if they'd call a truce for a minute, and get off one another's case, they just might solve this one.

Lacks the integrity of the original..........2005-08-13
...but still good to watch. It's consistently funny and has a reasonable plot but you get the feeling it should have been better. Maybe it's too late to save the series with another movie but it would be great to see Richard Dreyfuss on the big screen again, he really is an under-appreciated and underrated actor.
The main problem with Another Stakeout is that it just isn't as strong as the first film. Sure it was funny and had childish humor but Stakeout had a hard edge that this sequel just doesn't equal. The dropping of the R-rating for a PG-13 might have made economic sense but it betrays fans of the original.
Second is all Another Stakeout has going for it is the endless arguing and fast-talking banter between the 3 characters. There's no perfect mix of smart-mouthing and action. In fact, the action is far too toned down and only really occurs at the very beginning and very end of the film.
And for all the work John Badham has done in the past, the direction is lacklustre and uninventive. With the sole exception of the cat's bum POV shot of course. And he does do a great job with the Pacific Northwest scenery. But enough with the in-jokes. Yes, they are fun but there's too many for a film like this.
If you're a fan of the first you might be disappointed at how diluted Another Stakeout is but you'll still laugh enough for it to be worthwhile and anything with Dennis Farina is always good.
The DVD is in 2.10 anamorphic widescreen (the incorrect aspect ratio) with Dolby 5.1 sound and no extras.
Another Tired Retread.......2004-01-30
"That's it, nobody calls me Ed McMahon!"
- Emilio Estevez saying the funniest line from a rather dry sequel
"Another Stakeout" was six years in the waiting. After the first film, "Stakeout," made a huge splash at the box office in 1987 (the same year another cop-buddy film came out--can you guess which one?), everyone anticipated an unnecessary--but perhaps funny--sequel that would inevitably result after box office earnings were tallied up by film executives in an office somewhere.
Alas, the six years passed, and we got...this mess?
Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez reprise their roles as stakeout cops who get paired with a new partner in this watered-down sequel. The new partner is played by Rosie O'Donnell, who is so startlingly unfunny in this it almost makes you involuntarily switch off the television as soon as you see her chubby face smiling at you.
The story starts with a bang--literally--as a trial witness being protected by the CIA is unsuccessfully assassinated--and by that I mean: They die, she lives. What a surprise. (This is the type of scene where the villain is able to blow up a house but the witness just happens to be taking a stroll outside as it happens--or something like that--preventing her from dying along with the other agents who were previously protecting her. This type of thing was spoofed greatly in the truly underrated "Last Action Hero." It's not a joke in "Another Stakeout.")
Unfortunately for the United States, the trial witness never returns--she runs away and doesn't let anyone know where she is. Afraid she may be in danger, afraid to lose a star witness, and believing that she might try to contact old friends, the gruff chief of police assigns the unlucky trio of Dreyfuss, Estevez and Donnell to watch the her old pals to see if she turns up.
She eventually does, of course, but first we get some painfully unfunny buddy-buddy moments between Dreyfuss and Estevez and O'Donnell. She brings a bunch of clothing and a dog with her. They don't like it. Har-har. This was used a bit better in "Spaceballs," in which Princess Vespa brought along that entire luggage through the desert (remember?). This is just a copy of that scene, minus the punch line.
Estevez also shaves his mustache, which is supposed to be a type of sacred moment and is referenced at least ten times throughout the film (he goes to stroke his mustache, he complains about chopping it off, Dreyfuss complains about it, etc.). But for heaven's sake, he's only been in one film so far--we've only seen the mustache once--so a better thing to do would have been this: make a few more sequels and, when the last entry comes, have him shave it off. By then the audience realizes that his mustache is part of him, and that losing it is like losing part of his soul.
But I'm glad they didn't make any more than one sequel.
One of the things that kept the "Lethal Weapon" franchise going was the fresh ideas, fresh buddies, and fresh scripts. (Great actors never hurt an action comedy, either.) The "Stakeout" franchise--which didn't even last long enough to spawn more than one sequel--tries to copy this formula but isn't sure how. The introduction of Joe Pesci in "Lethal Weapon 2" was great because he thereby became the Third Stooge, whereas O'Donnell's entry into the series is nothing but a humiliating reminder that talk show hosts can't always act in front of a camera and maintain the same type of humor they may (or may not) exhibit on their (awful) TV "talk show." (Which is, by the way, consumed of entirely staged so-called "interviews.")
And whereas Pesci, as Leo Getz, added a type of silly vibe to the "LW" series, O'Donnell just seems like a carbon copy clone of Estevez from the first "Stakeout." Dreyfuss didn't like him at first, and--guess what--they suddenly became best buds. The same thing happens in the sequel, much to the audience's chagrin.
Of course, "Lethal Weapon" and its sequels were never more than a few years apart (the first coming out in 1989, two years after the original). But "Stakeout" had six years to make a respectable sequel, and it fails. It fails the same way that many prolonged sequels do. But, for once, it's not because the audience has forgotten the original film--it's because the audience is fed up with the same routine.
The film was directed by John Badham, which is surprising, since he's a talented director ("Saturday Night Fever," "The Hard Way," "Stakeout"). Here he jumps through all the hoops, turning his own series into a pale retread of the original--only watered down: minus the violence, language, nudity, and humor. I'm not saying a movie has to be R to be funny. But if you've got a sequel to an R-rated movie like "Stakeout" and you decide to turn its sequel into a cutesy-tutesy children's entertainment program, you'd better advise the audience before they sit down expecting something funny and fresh.
What a disappointment.
Bothell ROCKS!.......2003-11-24
I can't believe someone feels just like me about Richard, and the ambiance and relaxation value of "Another Stakeout". It all works from Las Vegas to the end, even the Stickley furniture. The comedic relationship between the three actors and the script is perfection!
Great Laughs.......2003-03-02
One of my all time favorite comedies. I agree that it is much more enjoyable than the first STAKEOUT and I recommend this movie to anyone who needs a good laugh.
Richard Dreyfuss...THE BEST!.......2003-01-06
The first reviewer obviously has a problem relaxing with a good humored, fun, well-acted movie with lines well written. It's a kick to just kick back and relax as the movie unfolds. It's the chemistry baby, of the three actors, scenery, set design, writer's workmanship and a plot thick enough to tie it all together. There's too little to relax and chuckle with these days...enjoy and relax. Cheryl, I agree, it totally beats "Stakeout".
