Not the egregious foul it seemed to be in theaters, Hercules stands up as an entertaining spritzer of an animated feature. The continual peppering of in-jokes and cultural references becomes less irksome on video. That there's no majesty or awe invested in the beloved Greek legends also seems less of an error. Also on the plus side is the bounciest Alan Menken music since Little Shop of Horrors. With Zeus's blood in his veins, young Hercules's amazing strength makes him an outcast (sorry, that still doesn't fly), so he trains with a satyr named Phil to become a hero. Along the way Herc meets Meg, a common mortal who falls hard for him. They're both against the jocular Hades, who has to destroy Hercules to take over Olympus. The hydra is the computer-animated set piece for this little number, a no-chance attempt to beat that wildebeest herd from The Lion King. --Keith Simanton
Description
An outrageous odyssey of fun, fantasy, and adventure unfolds in the hilarious hit film HERCULES, Disney's 35th animated triumph "brimming with comic surprise!" (Entertainment Weekly) Taken from the gods as a newborn, adopted on earth, Hercules becomes an awkward teenage pillar of strength. Trying to fit in, he discovers his dad is Zeus and home is Mount Olympus -- if he can move from "zero" to true hero! Hercules teams with babyhood pal Pegasus, the flying stallion, and Phil -- a feisty personal trainer -- for the mission. But it's no easy task as he must match wits with Grecian beauty Meg and a comical hothead named Hades. With the help of Pain and Panic, Hades plans to rule the Universe with only Hercules standing in his way! With a bold animation style, colossal voice cast, and spectacular music, HERCULES is unmatched in strength -- delivering something for everyone with "pinwheeling, knockabout fun!"

One of Disney's BEST!.......2007-09-05
When we switched over to DVD from VHS, I went LOOKING for this movie in the newer format - I LOVE IT! As do my kids...terrific animation, fantastic music (the muses are a RIOT), just creativity in every nook and animated cranny there is. Easily entertains adults as well as children - both boys and girls will love it! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Lighten up, live, and enjoy. .......2007-08-24
Some of my favorite Disney films are a somewhat inaccurate retelling of an old story. And so are yours. Think about it. Have you ever read how the original stories of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast went? Most of the stories Disney retooled to be family friendly were simply not appropriate for children. Picking apart Hercules for inaccuracy simply because it doesn't have the luxury of being one of the accepted classics is hypocritical, nonsensical, and totally ignorant of its merits.
This particular film is one of my favorites in the series of Disney feature films, and I've been an avid lover of Greek mythology since I was very young. I knew the stories that were full of gore, murder and rape long before any child would be allowed to see those kinds of things in a movie, so I knew when I saw Hercules that, for example, Hercules dies, Nessus attempts to rape Hercules' wife (not Megara) and ultimately poisons Hercules with a mixture of his blood and semen, Hercules performs his famous twelve tasks after killing his wife and children out of insanity, Pegasus is born from the gorgon's severed neck, etc. Sure, it's different. But parents complained about the graphicness of the hydra fight. Expecting Disney to put this into a G-rated kids film would have been the height of stupidity when it came out and I was fourteen, and some grown adults are still making this complaint!
This film is ridiculously maligned even though I feel it's one of the best of the Disney animated films. It has unique animation, a quirky feel the likes of wouldn't be seen again until The Emperor's New Groove, an exquisite blend of comedy and drama, a lovable protagonist and a hilarious villain that steals the show. Don't believe for a minute the rantings and ravings of accuracy buffs-- this is a fantastic film that people of any age and acquaintance with Greek mythology can love, if they don't let themselves get caught up in elitisms.
Daughter Loves it.......2007-08-24
I agree with everything positive everyone else has said... so why repeat? Great movie. My 4 year old daughter LOVES this movie. She's been watching it since she was a newly turned 3 year old. As for myself, I get locked every time she puts it on.
A clever, enjoyable and under-rated Disney classic.......2007-08-22
It was only a matter of time until Disney Studios put their own dinstinctive spin on that mythical God-like hero, Hercules. When I first saw it on VHS format, I instantly fell for it.
This animated film follows in the same spirit of my own personal favorite, "Aladdin" (no wonder why I like it), which blends dazzling animation, a clever story filled with satirical puns & in-jokes, toe-tapping showtunes, and engaging characters voiced by talented people.
But within all the jokes and gags is the essential message that our hero must learn: That true heroism comes not from wonderous feats, but from within your heart. We watch as Hercules (displaying God-like strength, but turned mortal, thanks to the under-handed doings of the slimy Hades) evolves from gawky, clumsy teenager into a true heroic figure under the tutelage of Philotetes ("call me Phil"). A diminutive Satyr (the most unlikely trainer of heroes!) with a short fuse, Phil is voiced appropriately by Danny DeVito. Tate Donovan voices the uncertain but ambitious Herk perfectly. His Godly father Zeus is given hearty, boisterous authority by veteran actor Rip Torn. Bobcat Goldthwait and Matt Frewer have fun voicing Hades' bumbling demonic minions, Pain & Panic. One of the big surprises among the characters is the leading lady, Meg. Disney, for a change, went against the "pretty-but-useless" damsel-in-distress by choosing a brassy, wisecracking heroine who pokes fun at damsels-in-distress. But the character who really steals the show is the hot-headed but jocular Hades, Lord of the Underworld, voiced with deliciously villainous glee by James Woods.
As with most Disney fare, "Hercules" is for the whole family. But be warned: Some scenes, such as Herk's battle with a head-sprouting Hydra monster and the equally monstrous Titans, may be too intense for little tykes.
However, there's so much to enjoy in this pun-filled take on the legendary hero that you'll most likely stayed glued to the set from start to finish.
Disney's Diamond in the Rough.......2007-07-27
This movie is one of the best Disney movies I've ever seen. It is so funny, charming, and entertaining. This is a movie for the whole family, kids and adults. This movie often gets a bad wrap that it does not deserve. I admit, it is no Beauty and the Beast nor Hunchback of Notre Dame. But it has its own charm. The music is so catchy, and the characters and animation is so unique and different. I think kids don't like it as much because some of the humor is a little over their heads, but teens and adults are sure to enjoy it. And the critics keep knocking it because it didn't follow the Greek myth. But the Hunchback also didn't totally follow the storyline. Victor Hugo's novel is a much darker story. Phoebus and Esmerelda's relationship was not as sweet and romantic as Disney made it out to be. The same goes for The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas. If that's the basis for deciding if Hercules is a good movie or not, then someone might as well not like any of the other aformentioned movies. If the storyline of any of those movies was totally followed, then they definitely wouldn't be for kids to watch. On a final note, all I can say is give it a chance. You won't be disappointed!

Customer Reviews:
"The Sculpture Anteater With Onion Ring Is Located In The Plaza.".......2007-09-06
As a long time "Mystery Science Theater 3000" fan, I love to revisit episodes periodically. This set is one of the few I had not previously purchased, mostly because I find the Hercules films to be exceptionally tedious. Of course that didn't stop me from watching the two contained here, "Hercules Unchained" and "Hercules Against the Moon Men." Without question "Hercules Against the Moon Men" is the more entertaining of the two due to the ludicrous imposition of "Moon Men" in a sword and sandals extravaganza. The riffing and host segments in the two Hercules films are great as usual, but I still find the films too boring to be very entertaining. The Hercules-induced tedium is the sole reason I gave the set four stars instead of the normal five stars for an MST3K set.
On the other hand, "Prince of Space" is one of my very favorite episodes. There is nothing as amusing as seeing Prince of Space using his magical stick to defeat the menacing chicken-like arch villain Krankor while yelling "Your weapons have no effect on me!" You'd think Krankor would figure it out, but he never does. The whole undercover superhero aspect of the plot combined with the typical Japanese children mitigating disaster ("We like boot blacking very much!") elements make this a must see episode.
I have always loved "The Killer Shrews" as well. I saw the original movie many years ago, and can't even begin to tell you how much the MST3K treatment adds to this somber, yet stupid, shaggy dog movie: I love the concept of dressing dogs up in shrew costumes and then making them chase the main characters off an island under inverted storage drums. The acting is hilariously overplayed, the concept is beyond laughable, and the direction and lighting are among the worst even by MST3K standards. I love it.
The set comes with three shorts that I liked to varying degrees. "Assignment: Venezuela," which was never used in an episode, is lengthy and is a modestly boring film about an American family moving to Venezuela to help the oil industry. There are some great riffs during this short, including my review title, which was Crow's description of a piece of modern sculpture. "Century 21 Calling" is an account of extremely white people learning about the telephones of tomorrow, which are quite humorous in retrospect. By far my favorite of the shorts is "A Case of Spring Fever," which is about the wonders of springs, and features a character named "Coily the Spring Sprite." ("Coily? Ewww.") I love this short because I completely don't understand who would make this film or why. Was it made by the National Spring Council? Was some other product in danger of dominating springs in the marketplace? I have no idea, but it makes for one of the best shorts ever.
In summary, any MST3K is a great thing, but compared to other sets this one left me wanting more...a little Hercules goes a long way. Despite that modest critique, I would still highly recommend volume seven.
GREAT SET HERE! GIVE ME MORE!!!!!.......2007-06-13
This is a very funny set of episode on volume 7. I am a fan of some of these old movies and "The Killer Shrews" is one goofy old film I've seen many times without the jokes! If your a fan of these guys this is another great set.
"Killer Shrew. Killer Shrew. Don't know the difference from me and you...".......2007-02-28
As much as I am a huge fan of MST3K, this set is easily one of the strongest DVD collections that Rhino has put out. With three episodes from the Joel/Comedy Central era and one from the Sci-Fi era, this set will keep you occupied for so long, what with repeated viewings and all.
The set kicks off with "Hercules Unchained", with a plot line I've never heard in the Greek myth stories: Hercules goes on a mission and drinks the "water of forgetfulness" and, you guessed it, forgets everything about his life, and is lured to some...secret kingdom of some sort. Joel and the bots have a real fun time with this one, as in one of the host segments, they make fun of the phrase "water of forgetfulness" with the food they eat and drink, like asparagus of happiness or something like that. 8/10
"Hercules Against The Moon Men" is a little stronger than the previous film, although it would have been best to not compile two Hercules in one set. Still, this movie is worth-watching. Granted, only a few of the riffs have been repeated from the previous Hercules flick, but it also contains some much stronger riffs than the other. This film involves Hercules on a mission to find out what the fuss is about with, you guessed it, the Moon Men. It has one of the funniest host segments: The Pants Song, sung by Joel and the bots, making fun of the costumes worn by the characters in the film. 8.5/10
While the Sci-Fi era may be considered to be Ganon's Sacred Realm for MST3K, you still get a gem every now and then. "Prince of Space" is one of those gems from that era. Granted, the host segments aren't really up to par, but the really cheesy film, as well as riffings from Mike and the bots really make up for it. This is your below-average, Saturday morning, children's Japanese superhero flick, that would better told in just a half hour than stretching it to an hour and a half. Memorable riffs pop up now and then such as "Krank 'wh*re'?", and the riffs run at a fairly consistent rate, keeping you occupied for quite a while. 7.5/10
This set goes out with a bang. That bang is "The Killer Shrews", one of my favorite episodes. I do believe cheesy monster flicks are so easily funny to poke at, making some of the funniest episodes of the series and this one is no exception. The plot is simple: a couple guys are sailing on a boat and arrive at an island infested with giant shrews. Some great moments are present here, including the Killer Shrew song ("Killer Shrew, Killer Shrew, Don't know the difference from me and you..."), and the riffs are consistently hilarious, making this the real highlight of this set. 9/10
In addition, you'll also get a few bonus featurette riffings from Joel and the bots, including a rarely seen featurette, "Assignment Venezuela", all of which are worth watching.
Deeeep Hurting...!.......2006-12-21
I brought this compliation mainly for the feature "Prince of Space" one of the last MST3K episodes I saw before the show was cancelled on the now weakened and somewhat abysmal SciFi Channel. But I found the two Hercules features and Killer Shrews to be just as hilarious. One of the Hearcules features was directed by a famous Italian director who also made Black Sunday and Planet of the Vampires.
Prince of Space.......2006-12-08
What can I add? I really miss MS3K. I HAD to get this collection, mainly for Prince of Space. I remember growing up and seeing this craptacular on a local UHF station. The two Hercules movies, eh. Some funny stuff there but the Shrews is better than both combined. Still, it a must have for any fan of MST3K!

The grande dame of teacake murder mysteries, Agatha Christie, has kept generations of readers--and viewers--in her thrall, and this magnificent boxed set is a must for any Christie fan, rabid or casual. The collection includes eight films made for British TV in the '80s, most starring the first lady of the American theater, Helen Hayes, as Miss Marple, and the inimitable Peter Ustinov as Poirot. It would be hard to imagine more acting talent packed into compact TV mysteries.
The three Hayes tales (also available as a separate set) are Murder Is Easy costarring Bill Bixby, a still-radiant Olivia de Havilland, and a young Jonathan Pryce; A Caribbean Mystery, with Barnard Hughes and Swoosie Kurtz; and the grande-dame-duet Murder with Mirrors, with Hayes playing opposite her onetime real-life nemesis, Bette Davis. Mirrors alone is worth the price of the set, as Hayes is in fine form, completely un-vain and sweetly droll. As she heads toward a country manor to visit her "dear friend" Carrie Louise, played by Bette Davis. Davis, in one of her last film performances, plays a woman who may--or may not--be being slowly poisoned to death, but regardless is frail and slightly incoherent. Davis looks quite frail herself, and her line delivery seems a bit uncertain--perhaps extremely effective Method acting, or perhaps she was indeed as frail as she looks; either way, film fans won't want to miss this.
In the three Ustinov films (also available as a separate set), Thirteen for Dinner features Ustinov's Poirot trying to solve the murder of one Lord Edgeware, investigating, among others, the lovely mystery woman played by a witchy Faye Dunaway. (And in a fun bit of foreshadowing, David Suchet, who would go on to play a formidable, more metrosexual Poirot himself, appears here in the role of Poirot's sidekick Japp.) Dead Man's Folly finds Poirot and an old friend, a mystery writer played by Jean Stapleton, at a "murder hunt" party at which the dead body really does turn up dead. Murder in Three Acts finds Poirot far afield in sunny Acapulco, at a glorious villa belonging to a suave actor played by Tony Curtis. A random death-by-martini at a posh party opens the door to the possibility of murder--handy that Poirot is there to help the local constables. The supporting cast features top '80s TV actors like Emma Samms as the actor's arm candy, and Diana Muldaur (the wicked Rosalind Shays on L.A. Law). The production values are also topnotch--with gorgeous location shots in Mexico adding romance but also unnerving isolation to the proceedings.
The two non-Marple and -Poirot films (and thus not included on those individual DVD sets) are Sparkling Cyanide, starring Anthony Andrews and Harry Morgan as officers investigating serial poisonings, and The Man in the Brown Suit, a zippy yarn of international intrigue, with Stephanie Zimbalist as a tourist in Cairo caught in a nightmare of stolen diamonds and death. Supporting roles by Rue McClanahan, Tony Randall, and Edward Woodward add texture to the mysterious proceedings. Never has murder most foul been so deliciously entertaining. --A.T. Hurley

Customer Reviews:
Fans of Mysteries and Old Hollywood Stars Will Enjoy This Set.......2007-08-23
If you are as big a fan of mysteries and of old Hollywood stars as I am then this set is a must for you. You get Peter Ustinov, Jean Stapleton, Faye Dunaway, Bette Davis, Lesley Anne Down, Tony Randall, Tony Curtis, and my personal favorite--Helen Hayes--just to name a few! Some of my favorites are "Murder with Mirrors with Helen Hayes and Bette Davis, and "Dead Man's Folly" with Peter Ustinov and Jean Stapleton. Jean Stapleton is a riot in this one. She really steals the show!
But I must admit that the stars are probably the best part of these Warner Bros. productions. It's just a shame that with such great actors the producers didn't get better scripts and directors. The weakest of the lot is probably "Murder in Three Acts", with Tony Curtis. The dialogue is weak and the scenes very choppy and hard to follow. Some of these stories like "Sparkling Cyanide" have been messed with so much that there is very little resemblance to Christie's original story! But if you like mysteries and want to see some great old Hollywood stars (especially Helen Hayes) then you will enjoy this set.
Very Well Done!.......2007-08-04
This boxed set is one of the best we have purchased in a long time. All the movies are well done and exciting. I am especially impressed at how clean the movies are. It is far too easy to find things that are very offensive and unwholesome. These are all well done, clean, and typical Agatha Christie, exciting and thrilling. She is one of the best mystery writers around and it is good to see some of her classics done so well. Keep up the good work!!!
Camp but fun.......2007-07-12
It is vintage Poirot and Marple, but such fun, including seeing stars like Anthony Andrews David Suchet in supporting roles. Who remembers that David Suchet was not Poirot? I certainly didn't.
Agatha Christie Mystery Collection.......2007-07-12
These 8 made for TV films are among the weakest modern Christie offerings. Any of the PBS versions are preferable. Ustinov makes a silly Poirot in 3 of the films, Helen Hayes is a passable Marple in 2 films and plays a brief role in a third one. The Man in the Brown Suit is fun, but fluff. Christie fans should look elsewhere for satisfying film versions.
Not worth it.......2007-06-27
Sorry, but the more recent Agatha Christie's in the past 10 years are good, these were corny and badly scripted, but good casting. However, not worth watching, as I turned it off as we just couldn't agonize through it all. I'll probably give them away to someone less discriminating. I'm a prude!

forgiveness as self-healing.......2007-07-14
Could you forgive Dr. Mengele, the Nazi "angel of death?" That was not a theoretical question for Eva Kor. She and her twin sister Miriam spent 10 months in Auschwitz and, along with many other twins, were separated from their families and subjected to Mengele's horrific experiments. After liberation by the Soviets as a ten-year old, then ten years in Israel, she relocated to Terre Haute, Indiana in 1960, where she raised a family. She returned to Auschwitz for the first time in 1984, and then again for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the camps in 1995. On that occasion she did the unthinkable: she read aloud her personal "official declaration of amnesty" to Mengele and the Nazis. To be liberated from the Nazis was not enough, she said; she needed to be released from the pain of the past. To extend forgiveness, she says, without any prerequisites required of the perpetrators, was an "act of self-healing." Others in the Jewish community were outraged that she dared to do this. Most interesting of all, Kor was clearly uncomfortable with extending forgiveness to or empathizing with the Palestinians when she traveled there. Still, this is a remarkable exploration what she calls "the feeling of complete freedom from pain" though the act of "forgiving your worst enemy."
The healing process has no limits here.......2007-05-23
Eva Mozes Kor was 10 years old when she and her twin sister Miriam and the rest of her family were sent to Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. Soon after arriving, the twin sisters were separated from their other family members and were then subjected to sinister medical experiments performed by Nazi doctors. The chief perpetrator of these horrific events was the ruthless and cruel Nazi SS officer and doctor Josef Mengele also known as the `Angel of Death'. Upon being liberated from the camp in 1945, Eva and her sister Miriam were the only surviving members of their entire family.
The premise of this documentary focuses on the power of forgiveness and its ability to heal even the most painful of wounds and memories. Eva Kor did what some might see as the unthinkable for most people. Astonishingly, she actually forgave Dr. Mengele and the Nazi's for what they did in the concentration camp. Other surviving twins from Auschwitz (who were also victims of Dr. Mengele) express their views here and they don't have the same capacity to forgive these heinous acts.
For several years, Eva Kor traveled around the world and lectured in several places defending her reasons for forgiveness. Whether it was in Germany, Israel, England, or the United States (she currently lives in Terra Haute, Indiana), she met with considerable resistance and opposition to her views. Knowing what happened in Germany and other countries during the Holocaust, this would be an understandable emotional response for many people.
I can't even begin to imagine the pain and suffering that Eva Kor has gone through and I honestly don't know if I'd be able to forgive in the same circumstances. What I can do is greatly admire her courage to come forward with these views and I respect her desire to heal herself and live a better life. There is no doubt that Eva Kor is a special person with a kind heart.
`Forgiving Dr. Mengele' is a sincere and affecting documentary and it is well produced in my opinion. The message contained within is an emotional one and the images in this program will stay with you long after you've seen them. This is recommended viewing for everyone.
Forgive the Nazis?!.......2007-04-23
Forgiving Dr. Mengele tells the story of Eva Mozes Kor. As one of two twin girls taken to Auschwitz, she refused to die from the diabolical Josef Mengele's experiments. Her death in the camp from an unknown bacterial cocktail would have meant the end of her use as a guinea pig; her uninfected sister then would have been murdered with a poisonous shot to the heart so the Nazi doctors could cut the two open and compare notes. This proud, unapologetic woman says she came to the camp refusing to die, bitterly cursing the children who had before she arrived.
Now a real estate agent in the United States, Kor goes on a personal mission to Germany to meet a Nazi doctor at Auschwitz found innocent of war-crime charges because he didn't commit any atrocities in the evil hospital. Documentarians Bob Hercules and Cheri Pugh capture Kor as she argues with other survivors who say forgiveness is impossible. Kor won't listen. She opens a Holocaust museum in Terra Haute, Indiana, and tours the world to prove that she can forgive, but never forget.
Forgiving Dr. Mengele is the surprising tale of a victim who chooses to forgive rather than live her life in pain any longer. It is personal and fascinating, letting Eva's personality unfold in all her strength and weakness.
Edith Moses Kor, A Voice That Must Be Heard!.......2007-04-21
I can't begin to express the great need for the whole world to see this Documentary about a Jewish woman who not only survived the horrible depraved experiments of the Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, but came to a place in heart to forgive him and other Nazis. A person like this rarely comes along in a world filled with great hate and unforgiveness. This is a true story of one such woman, who came to discover that the only way to be freed from her burdening experiences of the holocaust was through forgiveness. She takes you through her long journey from Mengele's depraved experiments on her and her dear sister Miriam to her crusade to tell the world what deep healing can be found through forgiveness. Having come from a Jewish background myself, I often pondered the question of forgivenes towards Germans. I clearly believe Mrs. Kor is right! I can only say, that she is a very special woman who I respect and admire very much. Regardless whether you will agree with her or not, she must be heard! So yes! I can't encourage you enough to go out and get this wonderful DVD about a most courageous woman. To her husband and two children, you have been blest to have such a wife and mom.
Memorable and Moving.......2007-01-14
I saw the 60-minute version of "Forgiving Dr. Mengele" at its world premiere at the Florida Film Festival and found it memorable and moving. The main theme of this documentary is the question of who benefits most from the act of forgiveness: the criminal or the victim? It's different from other Holocaust movies because the emphasis is on finding forgiveness rather than determining guilt or assigning punishment.
The film focuses on the story of Eva Mozes Kor (now in her 60s), one of the twin girls featured in a Holocaust photograph that intrigued co-producer Cheri Pugh. The Kor girls, along with other twins imprisoned at Auschwitz, were human guinea pigs for medical experiments conducted by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele. The crew follows Eva around the world for four and a half years as she initially tried to gain information about the earlier experiments conducted on her ailing sister in order to save her life. After her sister's death, Kor changes her mission to spreading forgiveness.
She encounters much resistance in her travels to London, Israel, the West Bank, Auschwitz, Berlin, Chicago, and even in her home town of Terre Haute. Few people embrace her philosophy and many are openly hostile and even violent towards her ideas. Kor's forgiveness is what she needs to do to survive her horrible memories and accept her sister's lifetime of physical suffering. She's not doing it for the benefit of the Nazis.
This is obviously not a one-size-fits-all solution to healing emotional wounds, and the majority of viewers probably won't agree with her. The way that director Bob Hercules presents Eva's story, however, is touching, thought-provoking, and worthy of an audience.

Great!.......2007-09-04
This was the best Television Series EVER! I dont even care that one or two of the episodes really stank. It is Hercules! I give it 3 stars!
Final Season.......2007-09-03
I love this show. The last season was short but worth buying on DVD. I would have given the show 5 stars if it has been a complete season, otherwise, I have no complaints.
Episode descriptions.......2007-04-27
1. Be Deviled--Hercules meets Sin (who is responsible for the souls of those who are too bad even for Tartarus and who looks just like Serena). She has released Xerxos to help her catch Hercules who she wants in her realm. Xerxos wants to see his sister Arciana who is looking for the sword of Hera. Sin and Hercules combine forces in order to catch Xerxos. *
2. Love, Amazon Style--Aphrodite and Hephaestus have split up and causing Aphrodite's powers to go a little haywire. To liven things up, Aphrodite has the man- hating Amazons waiting hand and foot on the men of the village. Deimos is using the Amazons to look for the Chronos Stone which would give him more power than Zeus.
3. Rebel with a Cause--Hercules arrives in Thebas to discover Oedipus is no longer king. Oedipus is upset because he discovered that his wife is also his mother. Creon, Oedipus' brother, has stolen the throne from Oedipus. Antigone is the only hope to restore peace to Thebas as she is the rightful heir.
4. Darkness Visible--Hercules is summoned to Dacia to help his old comrade, Prince Vlad to fight the Strigoi (vampires). Galen goes along to look for his sister. Hercules discovers that Vlad has been turned into a vampire. Hercules must kill Vlad in order to restore all the other Strigoi to humans.
5. Hercules, Tramps, & Thieves-- Autolycus is accused of robbing the first bank of Greece. The real culprit is his ex-wife Luscious Deluxe.
6. City of the Dead--Hercules and Iolaus travel to Egypt as emissaries of peace and find Queen Nefertiti is being plotted against. Ramses is arrested for high treason.
7. A Wicked Good Time--Lilith's and Jason's daughter, Seska, has graduated the Academy and is having a hard time adjusting. Discord is creating a coven of witches and recruits the unhappy Seska. Hercules is put on trial for being a warlock.
8. Full Circle--Hercules and Iolaus pay Nemesis a visit and discover Zeus has taken Evander away from her. Hercules teaches Evander how to help people with his powers instead of being destructive. Zeus uses Evander to release Hera from the Abyss of Tartarus where Hercules has sent her because he misses her. He also releases the Titan from the Abyss. Ares helps the Titans release Atlas (their brother) so they can destroy Olympus.
Finally the End on DVD!.......2007-03-23
I had been waiting a while since Hercules was first being released to see if the last few seasons would be released, and now this final season is here in DVD. It has great DVD sound and visuals. Basically it is about the culmination of Hercules trials and tribulations on Earth with the Superpowers of the Olympian gods and this season dealt with the other gods and deities of other nations for the majority of the season. In the end Hercules is back on the road ready for what life has in store, so if you liked any of the television shows or the movies then you will really enjoy this wrap up of what happened to our half-god in the end.

Hercules is the enjoyable, full-length version of a truncated television miniseries starring Scots actor Paul Telfer in a revisionist telling of the mythical Greek hero's life. Reputed to be the son of Zeus and Hera-worshipping priestess Alcmene (Elizabeth Perkins), Hercules is born a fraternal twin but half-brother to Iphicles (Luke Ford), son of Amphitryon (Timothy Dalton). Though he is raised under the latter's protection and counsel, Hercules has an unrelenting streak of bad luck that finds him accused of murder, rape, and the killing of his own children. With such a black cloud hanging over him, Hercules seeks redemption through his famous Labors. Sean Astin, Leelee Sobieski, and Leeanna Walsman co-star in a complex story of intrigue, revenge, and hope, full of gleaming swords and fairly good special effects, including a passable centaur and multi-headed hydra. Written by Charles Edward Pogue (Dragonheart). --Tom Keogh

Mythological Heroes .......2007-07-09
Im a big fan of mythological people this will go great along side of Clash of the Titans. I especially like Leelee Sobieski's character she is smokin HOTTTTT!!!!!
Fantastic!.......2007-07-02
Snooty, elitist snobs can say that this is a "buthered" version. One reviewer said NO version did the legends justice. That's ridiculous. Have you people not heard of entertainment for entertainment's sake? Every movie doesn't have to be an Oscar or Emmy contender. I loved the cast, loved the storytelling...even the special effects were less cheesey than the normal made-for-TV fare. I loved it!
Region 4 best value-Widescreen and 170mins running time.......2007-05-09
I really enjoyed this but I have the Region 4 release which was released in a widescreen presentation on a 2 disc set with a running time of 170mins. A full 3 hours with no ads. The Region 1 version clocks in at 127 mins on a full screen edit which does the production no favours. I think the American release has shortchanged its customers and can't understand these vast discrepancies unless its a censorship issue?
Minotaur1001, Melbourne Australia
Pretty good.......2007-04-09
This movie wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. I enjoyed watching it and thought it was a nice twist from the average Hercules movies. The one thing that really helped this movie out was the hotness factor of the guy that played hercules!
What a Powerful Message!.......2006-09-13
I'm shocked at some of the reviews here; I just finished watching this on Sci-Fi, and rushed online to see if I could order the DVD. This is also the first review I have ever felt motivated to make, after years and years of purchasing at Amazon.
IMO this is THE best done Hercules movie I've ever seen, primarily because the message. The point of the movie was not the heroics, nor the political intrigue, nor the subplots, nor the eye candy (though, I have to admit Paul Telfer was certainly that! then again, I've always been partial to dark hair and blue eyes... *purr*) or about the special effects. It was about an ordinary man who, through his actions and determination, fought back against the prevailing beliefs of his day, to come to the ultimate self-realization: I, AND NO ONE ELSE, DETERMINE MY DESTINY.
I watched this journey with my 10 year-old son, and in addition to the above, found example after example of courage and morals demonstrated. (Wish it was a little less gory in spots though.) The second biggest lesson my son took away from the movie was how Hercules, though it wasn't completely "his fault", took full, unremitting responsibility for his actions, and made every effort to make full restitution and make the wrong right. In contrast, we have the dumb-butts who took no responsibility at all for their actions. Wow!

Description
See Arnold Schwarzenegger as the mythological Hercules! Toga clad and ripped to Mr. Universe proportions, Hercules is bored with life on Mount Olympus. When he declares his desire to live among earthly mortals, his father Zeus hurls an angry thunderbolt at Hercules and sends him plummeting to Earth. A freighter bound for New York picks up the water-logged demi-god and thus begins a raucous, muscle-bound adventure that pits New Yorkers against the godly denizens of Mount Olympus. You have your choice of either the real Arnold or the dubbed version!

Traffic in the Land of Gods.......2007-08-23
This is extremely entertaining. I was particularly tickled by the scenes of Zeus commanding something or other with the sounds of honking cars in the back ground!
Arnold fist movie........2007-08-04
Arnold was Mr.Olympia at the time and it shows!
Good , sentimental story as well.
I enjoyed a lot.
For its time, classic Arnie.......2007-05-12
This is amusing and for us oldies quite nostalgic. Arnie introduced himself with this movie to many of us for the first time. And for its time you have to give it 5.
Super Schlock.......2007-03-03
What would you expect from a movie with a title such as this? Can't be taken seriously... Amusing.
AAHHnoldtt is kool.......2007-02-20
This was a very funny movie. It shows how green Aaahhhnolld was in his early acting career. I bought it to complete my Schwarzenegger collection of movies.

Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 4.......2007-03-17
This was a great way for my son to watch one of his favorite shows over and over again.
Great Show, Not so Great Writers.......2006-11-11
I am a huge Hercules fan! The show is great, but it could have been better, if the show had some better writers. Season four is one of may favorites, however, I can't stand the episodes that they try to make "silly" or comical. The show is not intended to be comical, but adventurous! This season seems to be the start of when the writes go "goofy". The reason that I gave this season a 4 out of 5 star rating is that the episodes that are serious are really great! If there were no silly ones, I would give it 5 out of 5 for sure. Even though there are some poorly made episodes, the show still pulls through to be one of the most enjoyable, clean and fun shows out there! Highly recommended!
"Those fools can't see what's coming, but I can!"(Ares).......2006-08-13
This season had some awesome episodes. I very much enjoyed Armageddon Now. We get to see Hope again, her new ghastly look and all. And everyone's favorite war god Ares gets his own share of screen time this season. I also enjoyed the three part season finale. After four seasons, we finally got to see Hera! That fight scene between her and Herc was far too brief though. I was also pleased that Bruce Campbell got more screen time this season also. Gotta love Autolycus! All in all, a terrific season.
Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 4.......2004-11-14
I've enjoyed all the seasons of Hercules and this one is no exception. As with the other seasons, the audio and video transfer to DVD is very acceptable. It may not be the best season of Hercules ever, and we don't have anything that compares to the Golden Hind episodes from Season Three. However, this season is still highly entertaining with plenty of creativity and humor from the writers. I even liked seeing Hercules as a pig in Porkules!
I always like seeing Lucy Lawless come back as Xena, and she stars in two episodes, as noted below.
1. Beanstalks and Bad Eggs: Hercules sets out to find the kidnapped Lianna, and finds her caring for the Harpies' three golden eggs.
2. Hero's Heart: The goddess of luck, in an effort to erase one painful incident, erases all of Iolaus' memory.
3. Regrets... I've Had a Few: Death comes for Jaris, an old friend of Hercules.
4. Web of Desire: While burying a trunk of stolen jewels, a pirate captain is attacked by Arachne, half woman and half spider.
5. Stranger in a Strange World: gs: Lucy Lawless: A vortex into a parallel universe reveals different roles for Hercules, Xena, Zeus, Iolaus, and the Sovereign.
6. Two Men and a Baby: Nemesis leaves her six-month old son with Hercules, and tells him that he is the father.
7. Prodigal Sister: Hercules frees a blind boy from slavery. When they find his sister, they find her to be an Amazon warrier who believes she was abandoned by her parents.
8. ...And Fancy Free: Hercules volunteers to be Althea's partner in a dance competition.
9. If I Had A Hammer: When Hercules poses for a museum centerpiece, the resulting sculpture comes to life.
10. Hercules on Trial: When a Hercules impersonator is killed, Hercules is blamed and put on trial.
11. Medea Culpa: On a quest to kill one of Hera's deadly pets, Medea falls in love with Hercules and Jason falls in love with Medea.
12. Men in Pink: When accused of murder, Salmoneus and Autolycus hide out by dressing up as performers in an all-girl dance troupe.
13. Armageddon Now (1) Gabrielle's daughter frees Callisto and asks her to kill Hercules. Callisto goes back in time to kill Hercules' mother.
14. Armageddon Now (2) gs: Lucy Lawless: Iolaus goes back in time to stop Callisto from killing Hercules mother but fails.
15. Yes Virginia, There is a Hercules: Kevin Sorbo, the star of Hercules is missing after an earthquake in Los Angelos. The staff have an emergency meeting to decide how to replace him.
16. Porkules: Hercules is turned into a pig and is befriended by a female pig, Katherine.
17. One Fowl Day: Katherine is turned into a woman by Aprhodite.
18. My Fair Cupcake: Autolycus introduces his former girlfriend, Cupcake, to Prince Alexandros. Actually, Autolycus wants to steal a jewel from the prince.
19. War Wounds: Hercules' brother's wife is killed. Hercules' brother, the king of Corinth, blames Ajax's warriors.
20. Twilight: As his mother is dying, Hercules remembers when he, Jason and Iolaus fought the Parthans invading Caylan territory.
21. Top God: Zeus asks Hercules to help him rule the gods of Olympus.
22. Reunions: Hercules learns the real reason that Zeus asked him to join him on Olympus.
One of the best shows on TV.......2004-09-07
Hercules The Legendary Journey's was continually one of the best shows on TV during it's run. Season 4 stayed true to the show and true to the things that made it a smash success.
Season 4 contains all 22 episodes. The DVD doesn't really contain all that many extras, but there are some. There is commentary by directors, Kevin Sorbo, and William Hurst on some of the episodes. The DVD is spread out over eight discs.
I loved the episode "Beanstalks and Bad Eggs." It had a nice Jack and the Beanstalk tale to it and it has the King of Thieves Autolycus played by the master himself Bruce Campbell. It's a great funny episode.
Stranger in a Strange World is another great episdoe. It was the first time to my knowledge in the series that they did an alternate universe episode and they did a good job on this one. They did it more as a comedy and they do a good job with it. All the characters are the opposite to the who they normally are. It's also a good episode because Aphrodite is in it who is played by the lovely Alexandra Tydings.
Yes, Virginia, There is a Hercules is another good episode. Porkules is another great episode where Hercules is turned into a pig by Discord who is doing it to impress Ares. The episode also has Autolycus in it.
The follow up to Porkules One Fowl Day is another great episode. Discord is turned into a chicken by Iolaus and Autolycus. Ares promises revenge against the two and chains them together. It's a funny tale as the two are running through Greece together trying to get away from each other. In the meantime Hercules is escorting the pig he met in Porkules who ends up getting the body of Aphrodite. It's a great funny episode.
Disc 8 is a special CD Rom disc that is packed full of extras. It contains Chronicles, Trivia, Bios, and Mythology on all the characters mentioned in the show. There is some nice stuff and you can really learn a lot about the show. Disc 7 contains some extras about the show including how they brought all the monsters to life on the show.
This is one of the best seasons of the show. It's equal to the previous three and I'm glad to say that I own all of them. If you loved watching this show when it was on, you have to pick these seaons up. If you love mythology you will also want to pick these up. You wont regret it.

A huge improvement in quality over the previous two seasons.......2007-09-15
The first two seasons of HERCULES were pretty much just a decent kid's show. Narratively the only thing of consequence was the emergence of Xena as a character prior to her spin off. The core problem with HERCULES was that the show contained no significant conflict. While Hercules had suffered mightily at the hand of Hera, losing his family, he is a remarkably decent, nice guy. Kevin Sorbo managed to make this Hercules likable, but he was unable, given the writing on the show, to make him complex or especially interesting. To be fair, XENA had the same problem until they introduced the "Dark Xena" background stories, which made the Xena of the present infinitely more interesting. But HERCULES never made an equivalent transition and as a result never became particularly compelling.
Nonetheless, beginning about halfway through Season Three HERCULES became far more interesting. Much of this resulted from an influx of characters and storylines from XENA. The Ares who had been introduced on XENA shifted over to HERCULES (Kevin Smith had already been on XENA as Ares, but on HERCULES he was already familiar as Hercules' brother Iphicles). Xena and Gabrielle even made it over for an episode while Joxer even made one of his few appearances on the senior show. Aphrodite made a couple of nice appearances as Amanda Tyddings pulled double duty on both shows, but the best XENA crossover was the first of several excellent appearances by Hudson Leick as Callisto. This would begin a formula that would greatly intensify in the final three seasons of HERCULES, as the two shows would often share recurring characters, in particular Autolycus, Ares, Aphrodite, and Callisto, as well as several lesser characters.
While HERCULES never achieved the excellence of many of XENA's best moments, neither did it succumb to its abuses. If one loves ancient history then XENA is at times embarrassing and frequently profoundly annoying. HERCULES delves into history far less frequently, though it takes, perhaps, even more liberties with mythology. And while I find the frequent fight scenes on HERCULES far less absurd than the Hong Kong inspired fighting on XENA, it was also less imaginative, partly due to Kevin Sorbo doing much of his own stunt work, while on XENA Lucy Lawless was able to hand over to the wondrous Zoë Bell the more extreme stunts.
The biggest disappointment about Season Three was, in a way, the final episode, "Atlantis." The always appealing Claudia Black appeared as Cassandra and at the end of the episode the final shot of the season shows Hercules with his arm around her from behind, suggesting definite romantic potential. Unfortunately, despite Cassandra's suggestion that they were going to be seeing a lot of one another and Hercules' agreement, Black would appear in only one more episode.
All in all, a reasonably pleasant show, but certainly not one of the milestones of television.
Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 3.......2007-03-17
This was a great way for my son to watch one of his favorite shows over and over again.
Hercules Season 3.......2007-03-10
I thought the price was great for the number of dvds included. I am a fan so it would have been hard not to like it. Good extras included on the disks; pics and interviews. I will probably buy them all
The Best Season!.......2007-01-11
I agree with Matthew Edmundson (below), this is the best season of Hercules The Legendary Journeys.
The first episode is my favorite episode of the whole series:
Mercenary, which was directed by Michael Hurst (Iolaus).
I recommend purchasing seasons 1+2 before purchasing this season. Hercules involves a lot of recurring characters and stories that you may miss out on if you are considering buying this season first...
Some may say that this series was too corny (from other reviews I've read). But that was the point of the show. The action and the comedy were matched well together.
Best Season.......2006-11-11
I think this is the best season. I had a very close call with season four, but think that this season has shown itself worthy. It starts out with a bang! The BEST episode of All the Hercules Episodes... Mercenary which has the best story line, best acting... Highly recommended that you see this season. If you are new the the Hercules show, This season is some of the highlights of the best. Again, the show is modest and enjoyable for all ages. It's almost hard to fine good clean entertainment like this.

Forget Steve Reeves and all those Italian strongmen who played stiff, humorless versions of the mythic demigod in 1960s Saturday matinee fodder. Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (a cluster of 1990s television films followed by a syndicated series) re-imagines and re-introduces Hercules--son of Olympian chief Zeus and an earthbound, mortal mother--as a laidback but focused hero of ordinary folks with extraordinary problems. Played with casual grace and ironic wit by Kevin Sorbo, the new Hercules wanders through an equally entertaining, revisionist view of ancient Greece as, well, charming and accessible--not exactly Homeric. There are gods and monsters aplenty, but if this was the cradle of civilization, well....
This eight-disc volume includes five movie-length adventures, thirteen one-hour episodes, and numerous bonus features. Narratively, the unfolding story finds Herc doing good deeds wherever he's needed, though his backstory is more interesting, including a dubious relationship with his all-powerful dad (a sweet performance by Anthony Quinn)and a tendency to feel the wrath of Zeus's wife, Hera, simply because Hercules is the philandering old man's illegitimate offspring. The movie cycle ends with Herc in a state of domestic bliss; the subsequent, regular series darkens him considerably but then thrusts him repeatedly into adventures with redemptive possibilities.
Nifty special effects make one believe once again in centaurs, many-headed serpents, a Minotaur, a Cyclops, and several other fantastic species not included in standard references to Greek myths. The regular or recurring cast include Michael Hurst as Hercules's vain, comic-foil buddy, Iolaus; Tawny Kitaen as the hero's wife; and Lucy Lawless in a pre-Xena role (in Hercules and the Amazon Women) and then as the Warrior Princess herself for multiple episodes. All together, this is a show that turned out to be smarter and funnier than anyone might have expected in the mid-'90s, and which holds up very well today. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:
very different from everything else on TV.......2007-07-21
Many TV shows nowadays all use the same ideas/scenarios that you see on every other show, or they have no real direction and get cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. Hercules is an exception. The only other show similar to this would have been Xena. While Xena tended to keep the mythology to a minimum, Hercules tended to make it part of the central story. If you are ok with Mythology in your TV, you will enjoy this. Hercules is a good role-model for everybody, adults and children. He is the hero, catching the bad guys and protecting the good guys. He does what is right, even if it is against popular opinion. He helps free some slaves and stops some "games" that force humans to fight to the death. He loved his family and treated them right. He played with his kids, took care of the farm, refused to cheat on his wife, took care of his mother, and helped strangers in need. We can all learn something from Hercules.
I love it.......2007-05-15
I bought these so that I could watch them with my son, he loves them, just as I loved them when the series was on TV. It is still fun to watch after all these years.
Hercules The Legendary Journeys - Season 1.......2007-03-17
I bought this for my son and he loves it. He watches it over and over.
All TV Box Sets should be like this.......2007-03-13
It comes with all 5 of the tv movies and all season 1 episodes, the packaging and video quality is solid and the show itself is classic action/comedy. All in all making it the perfect example of a good box set.
If you like a show that knows when to make fun of itself and when to take itself seriously this one's for you.
