Peter Pan has a special place in the realm of classic animated Disney films: it instills an element of childlike wonder. The 1953 version of James M. Barrie's story is colorfully told and keeps on the straight and narrow of the book. Barrie's wondrous focus on child's play is the key to its longevity: kids who don't grow up, shadows that run away from their owners, pirates, a fairy, and the magic ability to fly. In short, you can't help wishing the adventure would happen to you. Fueled by a few memorable songs (the stunner being "You Can Fly") and the strong impression of the pixie fairy Tinkerbell and the goofy Captain Hook, Disney's version of this story neither supplants nor lessens the Broadway version with Mary Martin that was produced for television the same decade. Unlike some classics, Peter Pan never ages along the way. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.......2007-08-04

Did anyone denouncing the jealous rages of Tinker Bell, the petty antics of the mermaids or Peter's sometimes cruel spirit actually read the original book? No? I didn't think so.

What is left to say? This movie is a Disney classic and holds a special place in the hearts of many adults. However, the indirect racism and stereotypes may not be appropriate for todays audience and their parent's undue concerns with political correctness and empowering views of femininity.

The film is very dated, but no more than the other animated features from this time period. The film also doesn't accurately reflect the original novel, but none of Disney's Classics hold very true to their inspirations.

This film is a beautiful example of light hearted entertainment of a bygone era. The old Disney Classics are in a league all their own and modern children's movies just can't touch them.

If you are a parent concerned with the indirect racism and old fashioned views just look to the humor in today's children's films. Sexual innuendo, toilet humor, political stabs, many of which go over the heads of the little ones. What makes outdated stereotypes any worse than the derogatory humor used in today's CGI cinematography?

At least these older films are intelligent and encourage children to dream big and use their imaginations.

The Platinum Edition of Peter Pan is a must have for any Disney collection. As your children get older show them the other adaptations, such as the live action and encourage them to read the book. There's no reason not to challenge a child. That's what these Classics did, they opened doors to other means of enjoyment and enrichment for children. A lot of parents today really miss that point.

This is a great adaptation of the story. It was a favorite of mine growing up, and it still enthralls the kids here at home.

5 out of 5 stars Love It!!.......2007-08-18

This DVD will make you sweat! At first, it will burn and your legs will be super sore, but just stick with it. I have always had issues with my arms.... no matter what I did, they never looked toned. After doing these workouts for a few months, my arms look better than they ever have -that's just short of a miracle in my book =)

The workouts are 30 min. each (3 on the tranforming DVD, 2 on the redefining). You will work up a great sweat with each workout, and feel revived after. I am pleased with the results.

5 out of 5 stars This DVD is awesome!.......2007-08-18

This DVD really made me sweat. The routines are easy to follow and fun. I noticed results within a week.

4 out of 5 stars Great Workout.. Altough,.......2007-08-16

The DVD gives you three 30-minute workouts. The first two workouts are VERY INTENSE. I always thought of myself as in good shape, however, the first two workouts are so intense I can't finish them after 15 minutes! I have had this DVD for about 1 1/2 months now. So far, I have lost approximately 10 pounds, along with watching what I eat. (I'm on the Weight Watchers program) After I tried the first two workouts for the first time, my muscles on my hips, theighs, and buttocks hurt for about a week afterwards. That, in turn, made me not want to continue this video. I came back to it, though, and tried to do the movements slower and at my own pase and that worked out better! My legs werent as soar The last workout is the only work out I can do all 30 minutes of it.

4 out of 5 stars Liked it.......2007-08-09

This is a good workout, offering enough movement and resistance to provide quality calorie burning time. It adds a nice variety to my exercise DVD collection, which consists mostly of The Firm programs.

3 out of 5 stars Bravo to you people who can do this.......2007-07-26

It freaking hurts. After about the millionth time that it was time for another "hill," I thought that I might die. I haven't put this thing in since the first time I watched it. Good luck with this one. Definitely not for somebody who hasn't worked out before. I'm in pretty good shape and I may never attempt this again.

Fine casting, genuinely special effects, and a keen combination of whimsy and danger make this Peter Pan the one to beat among all previous adaptations of J.M. Barrie's classic children's fantasy. The technical advances of CGI make the magic of Barrie's tale come alive, and the spectacular effects combined with luminous live action create an action-packed Neverland that's both believable and breathtakingly artificial, like a Maxfield Parrish landscape springing vividly to life before your eyes. More important, however, is the fact that director P.J. Hogan (whose splendid films include Muriel's Wedding and My Best Friend's Wedding) has taken care to develop a substantial, pre-adolescent affection between the boyish sprite Peter (Jeremy Sumpter) and resourceful London girl Wendy, played by Rachel Hurd-Wood in a marvelous screen debut. This emotional bond--and the mixed blessing of Peter's eternal childhood--is what gives Hogan's Peter Pan its rich emotional subtext, added to an already bountiful adventure that's equal parts delightful and menacing, especially when the villainous pirate Captain Hook (Jason Isaacs, doubling as Wendy's father) threatens to spoil the fun. With a mischievously dazzling Tinker Bell (played by Swimming Pool's Ludivine Sagnier) and no expense spared on its lavish Australian production, this Peter Pan gets it entirely right by presenting childhood as fun and frightening, in all its wondrous joys and sorrows. --Jeff Shannon

    5 out of 5 stars Finally, Peter's a real live boy!.......2007-09-13

When I was growing up I enjoyed the classic story of Peter Pan - but the movies were always lacking in some way. The Disney "standard" is animated, which is an inherent barrier between you and the movie. The various live-action adaptations, on stage and on screen, traditionally err by casting a young woman in the title role. It's an understandable way to get someone with more acting experience as the star, but it just doesn't really do the job. Also, there is a tendency with children's movies to make them short and simple; the Disney version clocks in at a mere 77 minutes, which just doesn't do the story justice.

This version gets it exactly right, by discarding all of those traditions.

The visual effects are advanced enough that Neverland can really come to life, but they don't make the mistake of making the movie ultra-realistic - witness the stylized spacescape that Peter and the children enter once they pass the clouds on their way from London. Similarly, the movie does well by casting people who aren't Big Names, with the one exception of Lynn Redgrave in a minor role. This means that you aren't watching Actors In Roles; you can lose yourself in the portrayals and let Jeremy Sumpter *be* Peter Pan for the duration of the movie. It's not a musical, so you're not distracted by having the main characters burst into song every so often. You can finally lose yourself in the movie, as every actor fits their role perfectly and the effects only serve to support the vision of what Neverland should have always been.

In short, this is a magnificent adaptation of the classic story. In my DVD collection, I have this as my only version of "Peter Pan" and Hook as the sequel to it, and that is how I recommend the "Peter Pan Experience" to everyone. Just as "Hook" did a remarkable job of imagining Peter Pan as a grownup, this movie gives the original story that same degree of reality that the other versions have so sorely lacked.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent music and everything else, too!.......2007-08-18

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the music. All I can say is, WOW!! It was totally beautiful and precisely perfect.

The acting by the children was superb and realistic. Peter was an excellent representation of so many boys I've known, while Wendy reminded me of so many girls and, well, myself.

As one of the biggest prudes I know, I am extremely sensitive to innuendos in films (Happy Feet had too many for me). However, while there is romantic tension between Peter and Wendy, there are no innuendos. Besides, the romantic tension only serves to make the ending more bittersweet, as it should be. It is an appropriate metaphor for today because far too many people dismiss growing up-- especially marriage and parenthood-- as restricting, when, in reality, these responsibilities offer so much more joy than playing and having fun.

    2 out of 5 stars Not Worthwhile.......2007-08-18

I enjoyed Disney's animated PETER PAN when I saw it many years ago and I still enjoy watching HOOK. However, this movie was disappointing from beginning to end. To summarize my criticisms, it had a rushed feeling with little character development and a poorly-defined plot. It seems as though there was too much material for the movie and, rather than develop a story in suitable detail, a survey was substituted. The only aspect of the film that had my attention was the budding romance between Peter and Wendy, which came to an illogical dead-end. Some might say this was necessary to be true to the original story, but I think internal consistency is more important. My advice is to avoid this one.

    5 out of 5 stars Absolutely terrific.......2007-07-18

I have always loved Peter Pan. The Mary Martin version was my favorite, until this one came out. Now, nothing beats this version, in my opinion! I could watch it over and over, and I'm 56 years old. Of course, I bought it for my two grandchildren who are 5 and 8 LOL!

4 out of 5 stars Time to treat yourself, and take a trip with Peter Pan.......2007-05-17

I saw Peter Pan when i was a little boy, and it stirred my imagination soo
much that i dreamed that i was actually flying with Peter.
No movie could ever match what i saw and from that day i would not view
any new Peter Pan movie....till now
I have seen this Peter Pan movie, and it keeps up with the old and even
better cause its live action. Peter is great, the captain is still mean
and dark as he should be. Can be viewed multiple time..

5 out of 5 stars By far the best I've used.......2007-08-15

Having taken many aerobics classes over the years, and now living in a small rural town w/ just 1 good gym and very limited aerobics classes on offer, I have bought about 8 cardio dvds and this one is definitely the best. My heart definitely gets pumping and I work up a good sweat too. Her assistants are great as they both have that "just right" look-very motivating! I look forward to trying her other DVDs once this one gets a bit boring.

    4 out of 5 stars Good.......2007-07-14

This product is realy good for someone who has a lot of energy to burn. I would have to admit that my legs really hurt for then next two days after only doing 20 minutes of the workout. But in a definitely good way. I would definitely recommend this workout.

4 out of 5 stars Oh my inner thighs!!.......2007-07-13

I have tried a lot of DVD's and this one is good. I like the way she explains how to punch "correctly", previous DVD's from others don't show you how to do it right. I was pleasantly in pain (inner thighs) afterwards, again no other kickboxing DVD that I have has done this. I also like that there are 3 segments to her DVD, so I can do all or as little as I want. I felt that I really got an excellent work out. However, I don't like to do the SAME warm up (The first 2 min.) on each segment, and I would like louder more, current music. She is not bubbley, and from all the others who are, it is a very nice change. Oh! by the way, I just turned 40 and Jazzercised 4 years ago, haven't exercised until I started kickboxing 5 months ago...I consider myself semi-coordinated, and fairly strong.

4 out of 5 stars Quick Intro to Kickboxing.......2007-06-30

I'll state what is obvious first: This workout works pretty well if you are running short on time and want to get some "cardio" in.
I feel I can do this workout on any day, even when I am NOT in the mood to workout. And that is saying alot about the DVD.
Its broken into 10min segments. There three segments:
    1) Upper Body
    2) Lower Body
    3) Core/Abs
Plus a bonus section, this one is a great finale.
Overall, my heart rate goes up to just about the right range.

The day I am looking to burn calories and want to "enjoy" a workout, I pick this up. This is my no excuse DVD.
Of course, for a balanced workout routine, you probably want some resistance training on other days.

Overall, I would say this is somewhere in between beginners and advanced levels, probably low end of intermediate.
    Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Love Quickfix Total Cardio Kick.......2007-05-27

Great DVD, watched it on ExerciseTV and I had to buy it. The routines are not boring and the instructor is motivating. I'd recommend this DVD to anyone wanting a good workout.

4 out of 5 stars Leslie in the 80s.......2007-08-19

Wow, I left my original 1 and 2 mile DVD with the pink background at my Mom's house out of town. So, I purchased this one expecting the same thing. To my surprise, this is 1980 version. It's ok, but I am a bit taken back by the dated look. The workout is still pretty good though. It was quite funny to see all of the old looks...a bit distracting but funny. She talked a lit less back then which is a good thing.

5 out of 5 stars Walk the Walk.......2007-07-27

Love all the Leslie DVD's and tapes they really give me the nudge I need to get moving

4 out of 5 stars Good workout, but old..........2007-05-24

This set is good b/c it offers a variety of lengths and a few different steps, so you can easily fit to how much time you have. It is set in the 80s or 90s, so it is an older version, but the workout is still good. She is a real person and not cheesy, but a good, low impact workout.

    1 out of 5 stars Yuck!!!.......2007-05-13

This was clearly recorded in the early 80's when she was trying to refine her style and figure out what worked and what didn't. The studio/design elements were horrible. The camera shots were very amateur. I didnt like how it went from Mile 1 to Mile 2 to Mile 3 with obvious breaks in between. It is terrible! I had Walk Away the Pound on VHS and was looking to upgrade to DVD. I figured I would buy it on Amazon and save myself some money. In the end it was a waste of money because I had to go to Leslie Sansone's website to order a more recent workout program and boy was it worth it.

3 out of 5 stars good but it could be better.......2007-05-07

I used to watch the walk show on demand tv and it was pretty good, but this dvd kind of disappointed me because it looks like old. No one in 2007 wants to exercise with a dvd from the 90's so I really hated that part.

Other than that it's pretty good. The exercise is low impact, but it works, if you make the 3 miles you will notice some pain in your muscles at the next day. The third mile is definitely KILLER, oh gosh! was hard to finish that one.

There's no doubt that that adding an exercise ball to your routine will perk it up, but--depending on your sense of balance--it may also land you on the floor. Instructor Keli Roberts and her two able assistants make no such descents, but beginners are bound to wobble, which Roberts acknowledges with reassuring frequency. The three 10-minute workouts can be done individually or combined since they focus on different areas. Round 1 concentrates on the lower body with squats while holding the ball, balancing on it for a variation of the yoga bridge and squeezing it with the upper thighs. Workout 2 tones the arms and back by lifting dumbbells while sitting or leaning on the ball and using it for pushups. The final routine is specifically for the abs: sit-ups, curls, yoga's plank and downward dog, and Pilates scissors--all atop the ball. Weights are recommended for the second routine. --Kimberly Heinrichs

3 out of 5 stars Truly just a quick workout, if that..........2007-07-18

This is definitely a good tool for learning about form and getting some ideas about different exercises to do on the stability ball. I didn't know who the instructor was before purchasing this, but it turns out she has a peppy Australian (?) accent and close to a fitness competitor's physique, in other words: very muscular. I was a little surprised, but she comes off as pleasant and friendly.

The three ten-minute segments are too short to do much, but they'll probably deliver on "strengthening your muscles and improving your balance and coordination" like the DVD says they will. Using it may help relieve any guilt about not exercising more than getting you in shape. But something is always better than nothing. I'm 5'1, under 100 lbs. and pretty active. My take on the segments:

1: Lower body -- There was only one exercise that I really felt working my muscles. Otherwise it was more balance and movement.

2: Arms and Back -- This section was probably the most informational for me. I came away with exercises to do on my own rather than wanting to repeat the DVD. The one thing I was disappointed with was that the exercises go back and forth (in no particular order) between arms, chest, back and shoulders. This isn't a good practice to follow for more serious workouts, especially with weights. It's generally more beneficial and safer to focus on working the big muscle groups first and then move on to supporting muscles, ie. back/chest then shoulders then arms. But I think the routine was designed this way so the exercises would flow easily due to positioning on the ball. Also, given the light weights used and minimal amount of time doing each exercise, the instructor (who obviously has a lot of knowledge) probably decided it wasn't vital.

3: Abs -- I'm not a sit-up person. In fact, I hate doing ab work. I almost never do, so I must have weak abs. But I didn't find this segment difficult or boring. Perhaps thats a negative and a positive.

There are three women demonstrating the exercises, one who does modified versions to make them easier. If you pay a lot of attention to form, you can get great results from this kind of exercise. This probably isn't an every-day, get results DVD. I bought it for $5 and, after watching it, wouldn't have paid more. If you're a beginner and like workout videos or are just curious, it may be worth it. If you're advanced or work out regularly already, I don't know if you'll end up using it too often.

5 out of 5 stars Best stability ball workout on market.......2007-07-13

I was skeptical about the whole stability ball workout, however, I found this workout to be fun. It's definitely one of those workouts I use when I know I need to workout but don't want to workout. Don't get me wrong I had some trouble balancing on the ball but before too long, the 30 minutes has passed and I've done a session of strength training. I highly recommend this to beginners or advance exercisers.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, challenging and different!.......2007-06-14

After reading the reviews here I was a little concerned, as an intermediate-level exerciser, that this DVD would be too easy for me. I'm happy to report that it wasn't!

Doing deep one-legged squats while rolling a stability ball in and out with your other leg ain't exactly easy! And neither is doing a shoulder bridge with one leg on the ball while rolling the ball in and out. These exercises, from the "Lower Body" section, are great for improving your balance and core strength, as well as being a lot of fun. This workout also includes some moves, such as side leg lifts, which use the stability ball for added resistance; I intensify these by using a medicine ball instead.

The "Abs" segment includes crunches on the ball; an exercise where your head, neck and shoulders are supported while you raise and lower your hips to work your lower back muscles; oblique crunches; opposite arm and leg raises while on the ball; back extensions; roll-outs; and planks. Keli also includes an easier version of the traditional pike on a ball.

I haven't tried the "Upper Body" workout as I prefer lifting heavier weights than would be safe to use on a stability ball. I love Keli Roberts as an instructor - she always comes up with some new moves - and I love the Quick Fix series!

    5 out of 5 stars Great format.......2007-06-05

This is my favorite workout dvd! It is thorough and the countdown clock is perfect for us impatient types who hate to work out and are constantly wondering when it will be over, LOL! With the exception of one or two positions, it is not overly complicated and most beginners can handle them. If you are older, out of shape/inflexible or have never done any ball exercises or yoga/pilates it may take you a minute to get used to-- just don't stress if you can't do some of the more advanced moves right away, you will find that 99% of it is still worthwhile.

4 out of 5 stars great workout, felt it the next day.......2007-05-09

I have been working out steadily for a month and I wanted to break up my routine, so I decided to try the stability ball again. I still had mine from like 10 years ago, so I thought that all I needed was a pump and I would be good to go! Not so, I am on a very tight budget so I figured oh well, especially since at my local sporting goods store the cheapest ball was like 25 bucks! So, I left discouraged, I had to go to Walmart and I decided to look and see if they had them and low and behold not only did they have the ball, but it was only 9 bucks! So, now I had the ball and a very old tape with the workouts, again being on a tight budget, I went to Ross and found three stability ball workouts...can you believe it! They were all under 7 dollars! I bought the 10 minute solution stability ball workout and The Quick Fix workout.

I love both workouts, they both have great exercises. I think the ab work on the Quick Fix is a bit more challenging and you don't ever have to get on the floor to do the workout, which I love! There is no cardio or warm up, cool down or stretching on this video, but that isn't a problem for me because I run about 1 to 2 miles everyday so I get my cardio in and as far as stretching is concerned, get the 10 Minute Solution Stability Ball workout, it has a wonderful flexibility workout and a pretty good cardio workout! If you do both tapes together you can get a darn good 50 minute workout! Or do them seperately, if time is of the essence! It doesn't matter what you do, just do it!

5 out of 5 stars Best work out DVD I've used so far........2007-09-12

I've attended aerobic classes and used several DVDs before but this DVD is by far the best I've used. The music is good and the routines are great, so you won't feel like you are intentionally working out like most work out routines make you feel. The dance steps are not something you would pick up just after one try, but think about it, if you learn everything easily then it gets boring quickly too. I actually look forward to dancing every morning, which is really the first time ever I feel like this when it comes to working out. If you like to dance, this is for you.

4 out of 5 stars It will take some practice - but it is FUN.......2007-09-12

I really enjoyed this work-out tape. I enjoy dancing and was looking for some new moves that were more hip-hop style as the Crunch dance work out DVD I had was actually more of a mix of styles.
The first time I did the Cardio Hip Hop tape, I really didn't get any of the moves. The second and third times, I got some of them down and then after a few more work-outs, I was able to follow rather well. Granted my form is still not perfect, and I shudder to think what I would see if I were to tape myself doing the moves at this stage :) However, I am mirroring the moves on the screen well enough that I am usually starting and ending on the correct foot/arm and at the right time.

For me, not getting it right off the first few views gave me more drive to keep doing the tape; I liked the challenge it provided. Initially I thought there was no way I would get the moves down, but now I have and with time will probably get better. I would also like to note that other than one ballet class in the 1st grade, I have ZERO dance experience.

The DVD is broken down into 3 ten minute sections with a bonus ten minute section. I found section 4 to be the most difficult choreography. There really is no warm up or stretch time, but hey, for a ten minute work-out, what do you expect? Same thing with the short break down of the moves. They are trying to cram a decent heart pumping work out into a ten minute session - if they did a warm up, a cool down, and more break down, well there wouldn't be much actual dance time. That being said, I think the 10 minute solution people should offer a couple 2-3 minute sections to designate for warm up and cool down. It could be optional, just like selecting the number of sections of the work out you want to do for the day. That way you can do a warm up and cool down if desired, which is usually highly recommended. It would only add maybe 5 minutes to the entire workout, which would be well worth the benefits. But, a 15 minute workout certainly doesn't sound as enticing as a ten minute workout.

So, long story short, I will list my opinion on the pros and cons

    PROS
    Challenging
FUN (once you start to catch on)
    Cool Moves
Can choose 1 ten minute session or all 3(4 w/bonus)for 30/40 min work out
Instructor is pleasant and NOT annoying
Encourages adding your own 'flavor' to the moves
On screen timer so you know how much time is left - can be a great motivator during those times you are dying to be done!

    CONS
No warm up or cool down session
Moves are tricky at first and you aren't offered a whole lot of break down
Music is lame - in fact I heard the same songs on other work out DVDs I own!

As a further note, if I did want a longer workout in the beginning while still learning the moves, I would just repeat the same section three times in lieu of moving on. Once I had the moves decent and wanted something new to try, then I moved on to the other sections.

    1 out of 5 stars forget it.......2007-08-31

I was looking forward to a fun hip hop workout and to learn a new routine. The music sucks..it is more like musak and that just killed ot for me right there. The instructer does not break the moves down , there is no counting no right/ left , no real instruction at all...just ok now do this. I wanted to break this cd into pieces , but I will probably just learn the routine with my own music playing over the soundtrack.

1 out of 5 stars Frustrating as hell........2007-08-01

Unless you already are a hiphop dancer it is hopeless to follow her intructions. She has NO idea how to teach ... NONE whatsoever. She shows you a move maybe twice, full speed, not telling you which leg or arm to start on, not showing it from the back so you could mimic and then you are expected to HAVE it and she moves on.

    Ridiculous.

    A waste of money.

2 out of 5 stars Cheesy instructor, cheesy moves, barely a workout.......2007-07-17

This is not the dvd to get if you have any dance experience at all. The moves are not cool and I found the instructor's bubbly talk annoying. The back up dancers are not anything to aspire to either. I found one of them to be such a bad dancer that it was distracting. That said, I do like the format of the dvd with each dance being 10 minutes so you can mix and match. There is also a bonus dance which I found a little more challenging. But if you are looking for a workout, I think going for a walk would be more exercise.

"Worn to perfection" is the tag line promoting this crafted character study. It describes Paul Newman, the resourceful 70-year-old lead actor, but not his character, Sully, a North Bath, New York, loner who totally emulates the negative definition of the title. Newman gives a brilliant performance (Oscar-nominated and winner of two critics circle awards) relying on his well-honed subtleties. The dramatics are simple: the return of his son (Dylan Walsh) and grandson, offering a chance to reconcile; odd jobs for a construction company he's trying to sue for an injury; and a comedic grudge match against the owner (a reserved Bruce Willis). North Bath is the kind of place, wrapped in winter (beautifully shot by John Bailey), where enemies are friends, marriages are shaky, and Hawaii is only a state of mind. This "town drama" of a blue-collar America offers the patient filmgoer a rich and rewarding experience. Another small gem from writer-director Robert Benton (Places in the Heart). --Doug Thomas

    3 out of 5 stars Nobody's Fool.......2007-09-02

Nobody's Fool is a classic example of a star taking over a film. Without Newman this film would sink terribly, but his thespian talent excels in this picture in the same way it has for the previous decades. If you don't get tired of watching Mr. Newman work, you will enjoy this film.

5 out of 5 stars Newman at his best.......2007-08-05

This little film is a wonderful showcase for the masterful Mr. Newman.
A wonderful performance by Jessica Tandy as well. Good plot and great telling of a story for our times.

    5 out of 5 stars Mood Elevator.......2007-07-18

I cannot even say enough about how much I love this movie--it is one of my 3 favorite movies of all time! Everyone else here has already written the plot of the movie and other things. I can only add that whenever I am feeling a little down, I watch this movie, and it lifts my depression, and makes me feel good. It's a feel-good movie, for sure. Love it. Just from watching this movie, I started reading all of Richard Russo's books. He writes so beautifully, now he is my favorite author.
I just wish there were more movies like this. Anyone have any favorites to recommend?--just respond to this review. I would love to get some good recommendations for more movies like this one!

5 out of 5 stars Charming , funny and realistic.......2007-07-12

This film gives a good impression of a small town vibe , where everyone knows each other .

The main story is involving and the subplot about Melanie Griffith's character is nicely done , too .

The film is full of fine actors who make you believe it all .

I could not recommend it more highly .

4 out of 5 stars Good vehicle for Newman.......2007-03-15

This is a very entertaining movie. I had heard nothing about it so it was a complete surprise. I knew that Paul Newman would not appear in anything less than first class so I chose to watch it, knowing I wouldn't be disappointed. I enjoyed every moment, mostly because of the incomparable presence of this eternally attractive man. The rest of the cast was first rate, too. I was pleasantly surprised by Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith and especially by Jessica Tandy (whom I rather disliked in Driving Miss Daisy).

I found the reviews of people who had read the book helpful and that probably explains why I failed to give this five stars. They said that the book is darker and that this is a more Hollywood-ized version of it. I did think that Newman's character was almost too cute and charming in the beginning. He wins our hearts in the first scene, when I think the darker elements of his personality should have been portrayed. And he looks so good--perfect teeth and skin and hair and wears really nice clean plaid shirts in lovely colors. I think that the "real" Sully, would have looked a lot more beat-up--like his pick up. Then we would have journeyed with him in the transformation process that the film shows. It's too slick and quick and easy here. Only the anger of the son showed the extent of the pain that Newman's character inflicted on him.

I wondered, too, about the relationship of Sully to the Melanie Griffith character, which, the film treats in a very light-hearted way, that doesn't completely justify the ending. I suspect that there was more to it in the book. However, as several other reviewers (who read the book) said, if you just want a good, entertaining movie, this is a good one.

    4 out of 5 stars I'm finally moving!.......2007-08-23

I am 69 years young and literally have never exercised. It's too hot where I live to walk outdoors and my weight loss program needed revving up. I'm moving in the comfort of my living room now every other day, and actually enjoying the activity. I don't worry about what I'm wearing (or not wearing) and just jump into the shower when I'm done. Thanks to Leslie to getting me motivated.

This is the 2nd time I have bought this item; wore out the 1st one. It is a good program, works well for an over 65 person. Easy to follow; she may talk more than you'd like.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful walking and strength training DVD.......2007-01-16

I enjoy this DVD. I have an old walking exercise VHS by Leslie Sansone that I really liked. This DVD is updated and is one on one, which is easy to follow. I love that it uses weights, which is great for strength training. The areobic walking is easy on the knees. I think Leslie is funny and the 30 minutes of exercise goes by quickly.

My mother-in-law has been using this video for about a month now. The first two weeks she was able to lose 7 pounds by exercising every morning and making sure she didn't eat after seven. She belongs to a senior citizen center and raves about this video to everyone she sees--whom she hasn't already told about it.

Update: My MIL is still using this DVD, and has lost seven pounds. She recently had knee surgery and had to stop for about 2 weeks; she was eager to get back to using it as she said she feels a difference in her days and her sleep when she does the exercises in the video on a daily basis.

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2005-05-25

My mother has used this workout regularly for the past 5-6 years (she's now 78 years old). She likes it because it gives her an overall good workout without discouraging her by being overly strenuous. I often listen from the next room while I'm working, so I can say (and she heartily agrees) that Leslie's words are encouraging, not annoying to hear with repeated use of the workout, as is the background music. I even know an 82-year-old neighbor who'd stopped going to a class for seniors and now works with Leslie.

World War II has turned Wendy's preteen daughter, Jane, into a realist, a girl who insists there's no need for stories and fun while London is crumbling. Hook kidnaps Jane (thinking she's Wendy) and returns to "the second star to the right" to foil Pan. Alas, the film doesn't build on this new story line (the London scenes have the most emotional impact), and what follows is a thin reworking of the original. On the plus side, a clever octopus takes over from that old crocodile, and Jane turns out to be a solid--and modern--role model. Those from ages 4 to 9 who have been brought up on the original should enjoy these adventures, even if the story, like Peter himself, "hasn't grown up." The 72-minute film is shown with the delightful 1948 short "Pluto's Fledgling." --Doug Thomas

1 out of 5 stars Did not go over well.......2007-07-07

No where near the original, kids were bored after 20 mins and we had to put the original in. Rent it, don't buy it, they will never watch it again

    1 out of 5 stars Junk.......2007-05-26

At a younger age, I thought this was junk. Now that I'm older, I find that I was being foolish. This is beyond junk, its on the verge of being untouchable waste. As far as Disney sequels go, this one ranks with Cinderella 2 and Air Buddies. I wouldn't even recommend showing this to a baby that has no ability to understand bad movies from good movies, because this will teach them to enjoy nothing of value.

    3 out of 5 stars a short review........2007-03-25

First, this movie is overrated and doesn't come close to the Disney original. Disney once stood for quality and entertainment. Now they will exploit any of their classics with a plethora of bad sequels.

I'm not just a hater of new Disney, I own and have seen this movie. Some of it is actually not too bad. Captain hook is funny and the animation is top notch. However, Peter Pan doesn't seem like the same Peter. He seems more immature and annoying. Also, why did they need to have the same dog and call it Nanna 2? This just goes to show how little thought was put into the movie. Out of all the names for the dog, they choose Nana 2.... my god!

5 out of 5 stars Captain Hook Junkie.......2007-01-06

If your kids love Captian Hook or pirates this is the DVD for them. My son loves pirates so he always likes to watch this one.

3 out of 5 stars Return to Neverland? More Like Return to Disney Sequels... .......2006-02-09

You may have read my review for the Disney film "Peter Pan". I said it was a good movie, right? Well, this one did not live up to it's 1953 prequel. It was boring and dramatic and just another cheap Disney sequel.
It starts out completely wrong. Jane, Wendy's daughter, did not exist during World War II but in the late nineteenth century. She was never against Peter Pan and she did not have a brother. She was just a little girl who dreamed of going to Neverland when her mother stopped believing. Also, Captain Hook SHOULD BE DEAD but he comes to England in his flying ship (?) to kidnap who he believes is Wendy.
Once Jane arrives at Neverland she meets Peter Pan. I was really shocked here. What happened to Peter's voice? It is TERRIBLE in the fact that it sounds far too adolescent.
After this meeting, several adventures ensue, including Jane's attempt to escape the island that she still does not believe in. She can't learn to fly and in a rage she blurts out she doesn't believe in fairies, so Tink becomes weak. Jane repents and saves her and becomes friends with all the Lost Boys, eventually fulfilling her dream to become the first Lost Girl. But she has forgotten she made a deal with Captain Hook to help kidnap Peter. Now it is up to Jane to save him, and she does, therefore removing Peter from his post as hero and becoming heroine.
There were a few strange parts about this movie. The Indians are never shown, even though there is a brief pass through the Indian Territory. There is scarcely a visit to Mermaid's Lagoon. And once again, Tootles has no voice. The best part in this movie is the end credits with BBMak's version of "Do You Believe in Magic?". This movie earned three stars, and only because it is tied-in with Peter Pan.
