The fourth "video board book" from the Baby Einstein folks is their most engaging product yet. Aimed at slightly older audiences (ages 1 to 4), Baby Shakespeare combines poetry with the usual mix of festive classical music, bright objects, and happy thoughts designed to stimulate young minds. This video is aimed at exposing little tykes to the language context. Twelve words (grass, tree, etc.) are explored in pictures and poem form with plenty of playful stops for kids singing their ABC's and close-ups of brightly colored toys in action. Older kids can follow the poetry in a beautiful enclosed picture book of poem text and sharp outdoor photography. We even meet Baby Einstein's first host: a dragon puppet named Bard, who (along with his friends) playfully participates in the action. He deserves a repeat performance. --Doug Thomas

Awesome!!!.......2007-03-23
We absolutely love this video. I love that it combines actual speaking along with music. My boys, now 2, both can recite some of the poems. It has always captured their attention and kept them occupied. While I am not a huge fan of videos for babies, I make an exception for this one. It is mildly education but loads of fun. I definitely recommend this video!!!
Baby Shakespeare.......2007-02-19
Wonderful DVD with lots of information for my 14 month old. He absolutely loves these movies and actually will repeat what they are saying. I don't feel guilty having him watch these over and over because he learns while being entertained.
Confusing content, uneven audio.......2007-02-12
The visuals are entertaining for very young children because there is a lot of movement and vibrant colors, but the arrangement of scenes is jumbled and unrelated. Much better editing is necessary. I don't know where Shakespeare comes into the mix for the very young children. The most irritating aspect of this DVD is the uneven audio. The volume often changes from scene to scene which requires constant adjustment. It seems as if whoever finished the entire piece simply cobbled together all the various parts without thought to continuity.
Useful only as pretty images.......2007-01-17
I bought this at a consignment store for 2 dollars, and that was more than it was worth. Usually I've purchased used BEs becasue they have nice shots of animals, though I am constantly amazed at how they claim to be educational when they are so poorly designed. The design of this DVD reflects exceptionally inadequate understanding of how infants acquire language. Words are introduced by showing parts of objects that would be difficult for a baby to identify (such as bits of an object shown through a camera lens, or showing toys that look minimally like the animal/object), they are presented in such a way that it is sometimes difficult to determine which object in the shot is the one that goes with the word, and most importantly they don't pair the spoken word with the images. How is this supposed to be 'from a baby's perspective' as they tout, when they have clearly little grasp of how to make something accessable to a developing mind? Not to mention that babies and young children don't understand figurative language (like metaphor) so exposing them to adult poetry seems more geared towards parental egos than anything else.
