average, and a bit disappointing.......2007-06-20

Those hoping to see newly-animated tales featuring Belle, Cinderella, Ariel and Jasmine will instead be sorely-disappointed with the first entry of Disney's "Princess Stories" DVDs.

There are two fully-animated stories that feature Ariel ("Wish Upon a Starfish") and Jasmine ("Bad Mood Rising"), taken from the syndicated prints of THE LITTLE MERMAID and ALADDIN television series (the animation quality for those shows was quite rough, but the presence of original voice artists Jodi Benson as Ariel, Linda Larkin as Jasmine, and Scott Weinger as Aladdin reprising their roles made them special for the hardcore Disney fans).

The two new stories, as promised on the DVD cover featuring Belle ("The Big Surprise") and Cinderella ("The Favourite Gift"); are nothing more than slide-shows with narration, peppered with some clips from the movies!

On the plus side, the added craft activities and interactive aspects of the DVD are quite well done. I just wish Disney had gone to more effort with compiling the animated stories.

A purchase for the hardcore Disney fans, but don't expect a lot of substance. (Single-sided, dual-layer disc).

I bought this as a 5th birthday present for my daughter, and she loves it! She watches it quite often.

This dvd is BAD.......2007-03-18

We bought my daughter the Princess Songs video - it's great. Based on that, we bought Princess Stories - it's AWEFUL. The animation is very poor - this is Cartoon Channel quality, not Disney. The stories are age inappropriate. The first two are very uncomfortable to watch with a kid -way too much "dark" imagery and too scary. The third story is actual still photos with verbal narrative. I wouldn't want this dvd if it was free.

It's not for Us it is for our little Princess.......2006-08-17

I was reading the other reviews and noticed a common theme. Many parents didn't care too much for the film. Well, I just want to say, that 1) it's not that bad and 2) IT IS FOR THE CHILDREN, NOT US!. Jasmine Monet, my 3 year old (very sophisticate 3) loves this film and could care less if Ariel's lips don't move at the right time. Even my 2 year old son will sit quietly through this movie calling, "Princess..." It's enjoyable for me to see the children's enjoyment. There is a Princess music video as an extra on the disk. It is awesome! I even enjoy this part. There are 2 stories that look like the TV is reading the children a story. This is pleasant for us. Also, the first movie is a Little Mermaid feature. Nothing from the original movie so it's all new to the children. Great stuff in here!

I think this qualifies as a rip off.......2006-04-30

I paid $19.99 for this DVD. For $19.99, I expected full animation for the whole duration of the film(s). The first story on this DVD was full animation. The 2nd and 3rd were stills with story telling (I guess you can call it voice acting). I don't even know what the 4th story was because it just skipped the whole story. This is a total rip off. If Disney has some self-respect, they should set the list price of this DVD at $5.
