Description

Radio psychologist Jack Black takes his children Joshua and Ashley on a "vacation" to a lake in British Columbia. While he grinds away at work, the children discover that the famous local lake monster "Orky" may not be just a gimmick to attract tourists after all. In fact, Orky may enable them to get closer to their workaholic dad, and keep local polluters from dumpin toxic waste into Orky's home.

After years of searching for this movie, I finally accidently stumbled upon this at the store and was thrilled. A workaholic dad takes his kids on vacation, the kids make a new friend in the lake, nearby plant pollutes lake, destroying new friends home, kids save the day, Yadda Yadda Yadda! Still, the story is cute. The kids, led by then unknown Joshua Jackson are cute, and the main critter is cute too. Good family movie also stars Mark Harmon. If you have youngins then buy this one! They will watch it over and over and over...

Highly Original Family Movie.......2002-06-11

Some movies just capture something so special and so unique. Such was MAGIC IN THE WATER. It's the perfect mix of adventure, funm comedy and drama. It has one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen---the one where the little Japanese boy falls in the hole. Hilarious. The directing is first rate and the acting is flawless. This is truly an overlooked gem that I want all my friends to know about. Brilliant.

I just watched this movie, becasue of a friend's recomedation. I thought that it was great that someone made a movie about this type of thing...it is a great plot- a girl who believes in magic. simple and plain, but wonderful. There needs to be more of these kinds of movies.

Abused by his gym teacher and his mother's current boy friend Lakki can find no peace. He cannot turn to his father as the man is distant and uncaring. Instead the 14 year old finds friends and harbor on the streets. He gets himself in trouble at school, starts playing with drugs, and tries to become a bully. He has no direction and no one to guide him. Even the friends he has made turn against him. It is only when things turn to the worst, and his fantasies are at their height does the real world finally reach in and save him from a tumble into the abyss of drugs and prostitution.
Unlike the soft touch and sweet theme of Svend Wam s later film, Sebastian, Lakki is hard edged and gritty, a mirror for the face of the day's alienated urban youth.

A Strange, Interesting, Funny Film

"Lakki" is a special film. It is surreal as it tells the story of a fourteen year old boy who dreams of escaping his unhappy home where he suffers sexual abuse (from his mother's boyfriend who is also his swimming coach). One day, as if by magic, he finds himself having feathered wigs and he can fly away metaphorically.
"Lakki" is one of the strangest films I have ever seen but that does not take away from its quality. As Lakki deals with his crazy and selfish parents, he is growing up physically. His mother manages to become involved with weird men and she speaks to her son as if they are friends and not mother and son. When she becomes involved with Lakki's gym teacher, we learn that he has been sexually abusing her son. Lakki's dad is about the same--mixed up and foolish. He is an irresponsible womanizer who is unsympathetic to his son's needs and pain. Lakki spends most of his time alone, sometimes coming into contact with a cast of eccentric and odd characters that he meets on the street.
One day Lakki discovers angel wings growing out of his back and they come and go as he does the right thing. It seemed to me that I was watching a fairy tale although I did not catch the moral.
Some of the visuals are absolutely unbelievably good and the characters are fascinating. There is a great deal of homo-erotic imagery which seemed to me to both dumb and self-effacing.
Anders Borchgrevink who plays Lakki has an odd and interesting screen presence and he is totally believable as the angry, abused teenager. He is also responsible for the humor in the film. Lakki's mother played by Nina Gunke is marvelous and not at all bad to look at. All of the cast members are good looking and it is fun to hear spoken Norwegian. It's a strange movie but I recommend it highly.
There are many very funny moments but the movie would have been much funnier if it had been done as satire and full of irony.

This was a very funny movie. It shows how green Aaahhhnolld was in his early acting career. I bought it to complete my Schwarzenegger collection of movies.
