Another Veggie Success.......2005-07-15
This movie was another VeggieTales done right, with the standard formula. Good job to whoever came up with how to take David and Bathsheba-adultery and murder- to a children's level. Larry did well as the bad guy, though he's still a very lovable character. Someone that I can imagine kids relating to, Larry likes to be in his own world and spend time with one of his duckies. He sees something he wants-the ducky that young Thomas aka Junior has for his bath and goes to extreme measures to get it. Well done story, good characters, good songs.
Clever, Silly, and Insightful.......2005-04-05
King George and the Ducky is one of Big Idea's best Veggie Tales videos. No one could have guessed that the story of David and Bathsheba could be made G-rated, let alone that it would showcase some of Big Idea's best humor.
The story starts off with Jimmy and Jerry Gourd trying to impersonate Bob and Larry. They fail miserably, but not before treating us to a silly little skit about "The Englishman Who Went Up the Hill and Came Down With All the Bananas," complete with cheesy piano music and off-screen comments from the French Peas.
The story itself tells how King George (Larry) preferred to stay home and take baths with his duckies rather than participate in the Pie Wars. ("Blackberry in the hole!") He covets his neighbor's (Junior's) ducky and sends Junior to the front lines. Larry's turn as the badguy is surprisingly good, and his two songs are particularly catchy. Pa Grape plays the prophet Melvin who uses a flannelgraph story ("Ooo! Flannelgraph!") to convict the king of his sins.
As usual, Big Idea has made a story that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike.
The BEST Veggietales Show!.......2005-03-01
King George and the Ducky is my favorite Veggietales show! It's a silly story with a powerful lesson in selfishness.
Before they show the story of King George and the Ducky, Jimmy and Jerry Gourd put on a small skit; The Englishman Who Went Up
the Hill and Came Down With All the Bannanas. Scallion #1 plays the part of an Englishman, and Jerry plays the part of a Swedish gourd. Scallion #1 takes all the bannanas off a hill, and Jerry takes all the strawberries off another. Because "they can't eat bannanas without strawberries," they end up not eating any of the fruit because they won't share. The little French Peas yell little comments in between. Also, when the Englishman says, "I know, but I've got all the bannanas!" it's hilarious! He sounds like he's taunting.
King George and the Ducky is next. The "Great Pie Wars" is going on, but all King George wants to do is sit in his bath and play with his ducky. But, when he sees that Thomas (Junior Asparagus)
has a rubber ducky, he wants it so bad! So, he puts him at the front of a battle during the Pie Wars, and steals his ducky. I won't give away anymore, though. I don't want to give away the ending.
Also, along with the DVD is a bunch of fun features, such as trivia games, a great audio commentary, and a maze.
This is so much fun!.......2004-08-06
I live in South Africa and can't find Veggietales on DVD anywhere so I took a chance and bought this one from Amazon.com. What a winner! My 3 year old is totally hooked. He sings all the songs and knows the story line off by heart now. I love the humour which is funny for adults too but it's all good clean fun which is rare these days. Larry's "Endangered Love" silly song is one of the funniest things I have seen in years and we all had that song stuck in our heads for weeks but it is such a funny song I didn't mind a bit.
I was so impressed with how Big Ideas took a sensitive story - David and Bathsheba -and translated it for kids. They took out the R-rated stuff but got the message across very well.
I have since ordered more Veggietales and they have been just as successful. I will continue to buy Veggietales as long as they continue making them.
This is a good movie.......2004-07-17
My kids love veggietales. We own them, the libary owns them, they show them at the church during Sunday School. THere was even one little boy that was afraid of the movie about the rumor weed, so he'd hide in the nursery and look through the grate in the door (and watch the movie through the grate!)
This a cute, great, funny movie for kids.

Description
Once upon a time there lived a king. Like other kings, he had a really neat castle and a lovely little kingdom. But unlike other kings, King George spent most of his time ... in the bathtub! Why? Because that's where he'd play with his favorite toy: his rubber ducky. But one ducky wasn't enough for King George. He wanted all the duckies! Discover what happens when this cucumber king makes a huge mistake, deciding that the most important person in the world is, well ... himself! Can he learn to put others first before it's too late?!? Join Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, and the whole VeggieTales gang as they learn that when we are selfish, we hurt the people around us. "For whether you're a king or a kid, God wants us all to think of others first!" Don't miss all the fun in King George and the Ducky!
