Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:
Williams Makes This An Animated Classic.......2007-09-09
I can think of three quick reasons why this has remained one of the best animated movies ever: 1 - Very good, very catchy songs that still sound good 15 years later; 2 - excellent, colorful visuals; 3 - the unique humor of Robin Williams, who seems to spout a joke-a- second. In fact, you have to pay close attention to hear Williams' lines because they come so fast and furious. Actually, at times they are too fast. You hardly have time to laugh or digest what he just said when another line hits you. Williams' genie character doesn't appear on screen until after the first third of the film is over.
Without all those jokes - and the great visuals that go with those gags (things popping up like Saturday morning cartoons), this would just be a routine Disney animated film. Part of the normal Disney fare includes a hero who is a good guy but a liar and a heroine who is the typical wasp-waisted beauty who is rebellious against the rules of the day.
Maybe the best attribute of this film is simply how fast it moves, meaning it's very, very entertaining.
Aladdin.......2007-09-09
Got DVD in timely matter, sooner than expected and Granddaughtr loves it. Would buy from this dealer again.
Probably my favorite Disney movie of all time.......2007-08-23
Its always hard to choose a 'favorite' but this is probably it for me. I can't get enough of it. I've seen it probably over 100 times and it never gets old. Its just perfect in every way from the animation to the acting to the awesome songs. Every scene is a treat to watch, nothing is wasted. I even love the evil characters. It really doesn't get any better or more magical then this. Every child and adult alike should watch this.
Classic Disney film.......2007-08-18
The "monster" genie scenes frightened our children initially when they were three years old. Now, at four, it is one of the most their frequently requested DVD's.
Watching this DVD and getting to know the Aladdin characters seemed to enhance our recent trip to EuroDisney for our children.
Definite must-have addition to the children's DVD library.
THIS IS A FILM THAT CAN BE ENJOYED LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF TIMES.......2007-08-06
We literally wore out 3 Disney VHS editions of this film before it was released on DVD. Now several years later, our youngster watches this film just as much as ever and we enjoy seeing it with him: OVER & OVER & OVER!!
SOUNDS GREAT - LOOKS GREAT & IT'S GOT ROBIN WILLIAMS & AN EXCITING PLOT TOO!
IN A NUTSHELL: A WHOLE NEW WORLD & IT INCLUDES ROBIN WILLIAMS AS THE GENIE
This DVD release of 'Aladdin' by Disney is a treat for audiences regardless of age. It is one of the few films I can think of that both children and their parents may equally enjoy, and this Platinum Edition DVD is the best way I know to bring Aladdin into our homes.
WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT: BOY MEETS GIRL - BOY MUST BE WORTHY OF GIRL ON HIS OWN MERITS!
Jasmine is 'PRINCESS JASMINE' and she must be married to a prince before her 18th birthday, which is in three days, as the film opens. Needless to say, she is less than excited by the suitors who have presented to claim her. "Another Stuffed Shirt - Swaggering Peacock", to use her words. After deciding to runaway - without planning for any expenses or anything for that matter - she runs into Aladdin during a street market fracas caused by her lack of currency, and is saved by Aladdin from the knife point of a greedy merchant. Thinking that Jasmine was just an ordinary girl, Aladdin set his sights on her, but found it was necessary to flee from the palace guards several times with Jasmine in tow. Aladdin discovers to his chagrin, as Jasmine declares her identity to the palace guards, that she is no ordinary girl, which puts her out of Aladdin's reach.
BUT THIS IS ONLY WHERE THE STORY BEGINS: ALADDIN: "THE DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH"
Believe it or not, the film goes along happily for over 40 minutes before Robin Williams makes his entrance as the Genie. By this time we know that Aladdin must elevate his station to attain the hand of 'Princess Jasmine' - but how?
A PRINCESS MUST BE MARRIED TO A PRINCE! BUT PRINCE ALI?
Acquiring the services of the Genie for three wishes has made it possible for Aladdin to elevate his station rather profoundly by simply wishing for it. So Prince Ali is born, along with a terrific song, lyrics and video action. Unfortunately, wishing does not make one different on the inside, and this Prince Ali charade is doomed from the start. But ---- Aladdin will elevate himself and redeem the trust which Princess Jasmine was beginning to place in him, on his own merit.
THERE IS STILL MORE--LOTS MORE: ONE CAN'T JUST WISH FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT-ASK ALADDIN
This film has a lovely story and wonderful animation, but it also has Robin Williams who gives a truly over-the-top performance as the Genie. He is the Genie and is so quick and witty and glib that audiences, regardless of age, will really zone in on his delivery. His role clearly demonstrates that one cannot simply change or improve oneself by simply wishing for it. This type of change and improvement comes from within and we go back to the theme 'the diamond in the rough'.
No decent hero can be much of a hero without a fiendish and sly villain over whom to prevail. 'Jafar' and his evil sidekick 'Iago' provide the needed balance to present Aladdin with a real obstacle. Jafar readily grabs at the chance to elevate his standing by wishing for it, and first wishes to be the Sultan, then the "most powerful sorcerer in the world" and ultimately the "all-powerful genie". This leads him down the path that Aladdin did not take and we get to see exactly what Jafar reaps in the end, which demonstrates that the only way to improve oneself is by exerting an honest effort, not just wishing for it.
IN THE END: WE GET BACK TO WHERE WE BEGAN - "A PRINCESS MUST BE MARRIED TO A PRINCE"
Aladdin must defeat Jafar on his own and in so doing may redeem himself fully in the eyes of Jasmine and her father, the Sultan.

The Return of Jafar, the 1994, direct-to-video follow-up to Aladdin (it's actually four episodes of the Aladdin television program, back-to-back) is a wash-out compared to the Robin Williams-driven animation feature that kicked off the franchise. The story partially involves the villainous Jafar's parrot--Iago--trying to leave his master and befriend Aladdin and Jasmine. Williams is nowhere to be found, unfortunately; the genie's voice is provided by Dan Castellaneta, and the difference shows. --Tom Keogh
Robin Williams returns as the voice of the hyperactive genie in Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the second direct-to-video sequel to Disney's hit animated feature. Aladdin, the street beggar turned Prince, risks all to find his father among the cutthroat 40 thieves and joins his quest to find a Midas-like stone that turns everything it touches into gold. A significant cut above most made-for-video animation, this energetic adventure largely leaves Princess Jasmine and the genie behind for a father-and-son quest. Guest voice Jerry Orbach suggests Sean Connery with his thick-as-molasses delivery as the master thief Sa'luk and, despite his limited screen time, Williams once again delights with his wild flights of fantasy as the big blue Genie. A rousing tale full of last-minute escapes and spectacular, kid-sized thrills that even parents will find entertaining. --Sean Axmaker

Aladdin 2 & 3 collection.......2007-08-31
My grandson loved the 1st Aladdin movie and had seen these two at a friend's. He plays them over and over. The whole family can sing all the songs.
Excellent.......2007-07-30
My son just loves Alladin, now he has the complete collection of movies,I lost the count of how many times he watched those movies.
Three Stars Because..........2007-06-27
...they were two brilliant films with real good plot lines and amazing songs. Neither of them were quite as good as the first one but they were close enough.
Two Great Movies!.......2007-01-04
First off, I don't know why everyone doesn't like the movie "The Return of Jafar". In my opinion it's better than "King of Thieves", and a pretty good sequel, for the fantastic movie "Aladdin". I'm going start off by discussing "The Return of Jafar". First, the story, then the songs, then animation, and lastly, characters.
Well, the story is pretty much what everyone expects it to be. Jafar and Iago escape from the lamp and Jafar seeks revenge on Aladdin. Typical. Not that it's bad or anything, it's just that we all expect that.
The songs don't measure up at all to "A Whole New World", "Prince Ali", or "One Jump Ahead", but they're not terrible at the same time. Some can get pretty annoying, like the one that Jafar sings. But some are good and memorable such as "Forget About Love". I found that song beautiful at the end, and humorous at the beginning. Overall they are just average.
The animation was nothing special. The characters look sort of different, and the animation made their facial expressions look a little odd, and their mouths don't really match up to some of the words they're saying. Nothing great about it.
The characters were basically the same from the original. What I want to talk about is the voices. As you probably know, Robin Williams doesn't return for the voice of the Genie, which everyone hates, but I don't think it wrecks the whole movie. Jonathan Freeman returns for Jafar, and that's about it.
Well, now "Aladdin and the King of Thieves". I don't want to say as much.
The story wasn't as interesting to me, because Jafar is dead now, but it involves the forty thieves, and Aladdin finding his long last father who is actually *Spoiler* the leader of the thieves. Interesting.
The songs were better than the Return of Jafar, but they still don't add up the soundtrack of the original. But I did love "Thin Air".
The animation was definitely better than the second one. Not much more to say about that.
The characters were pretty much the same, except for the thieves probably, and the all-seeing oracle. And Robin Williams returns for the voice of the Genie! I bet you all rejoicing about this!
Well, overall I still like the original best, but Return of Jafar and King of Thieves are worthy sequels for Aladdin. And out of those two, I do prefer Return of Jafar, but King of Thieves is still great too. I would buy these movies, if you liked the first Aladdin. Hope this helped!

Given the sheer volume and varying quality of his recorded output, not to mention his weird behavior, it's easy to overlook the fact that Prince is one of the great talents of the last quarter century--a fact underlined in earnest by this galvanizing performance. The guy has always had a preternatural ability to channel R&B and rock legends like Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and James Brown (cf. this performance's amazing "Money Don't Matter 2 Night/The Work"); now he's added more sophisticated flavors to the mix as well, ranging from George Benson to Steely Dan and Weather Report, and all without sacrificing his own voice. Add to that covers of the Ohio Players' "Love Rollercoaster" and Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" (really), all played by Prince and his smokin', skin tight band, and what you get is one of the best shows of 2002, or any other year. Extraordinary. --Sam Graham
Customer Reviews:
Great Concert Video.......2007-09-05
I've not really followed Prince or been a fan of his music, but a friend and fellow musician of mine is, and I'd often heard that Prince is a great live performer, so I decided to get this video to check him out.
This is a GREAT performance with a great band. Prince basically revs up the room, brings audience members onstage to dance, continually drives the band with cues to start and stop, plays great guitar licks and solos and chatters on throughout, in complete control and grooving the whole way through.
I would highly recommend this video to anyone.
Prince does funk.......2007-03-10
Prince has an absolutely exceptional group of musicians assembled for this show. Prince himself plays, sings and performs well. If you like funk, you will really enjoy this show.
The sound quality is, at times, sub-par. I was surprised that Prince, in the interest of quality control alone, would permit the DVD to be issued without correcting this technical flaw.
The music cooks and, with the exception of a bit too much drama at the very end, the show is well worth the cost of this DVD.
good show, awful dvd.......2006-08-20
obviously, the music featured here is of high-quality. hardly sign of the times transcendent, but nonetheless very exciting (as was typical of prince's 2002 tour). unfortunately the director does his/her upmost to ruin everything for you with sub-bootleg grainy picture quality and warped sound, hamfisted camera angle switches, bizarre washed-out colors, some horribly cheesy effects and cuts. for a band featuring nothing but incredibly dextrous musicians who play with an enormous level of detail and complexity, it's a shame the director clearly hasn't the faintest idea how to shoot a concert let alone one featuring musicians of this caliber. hey prince, just so you know....your DIY "NPGMC" approach is only impressive if with it you can match what you'd been able to do had you still had the financial might of a major behind you. if it looks this amateurish then you just look, well...amateurish. and your talents are not worthy of anything even close to amateur-level presentation. the bootleggers you despise so much put far greater care into the stuff they put out than you obviously could be bothered to do with this. i mean really, you re-shot sign of the times in its entirety at paisley park after the rotterdam/antwerp footage was not up to par: i find it hard to believe that original footage was any worse than this.
hardcore prince fans such as myself will want it despite this, but casual fans (especially those not familiar with the more obscure prince material that makes up most of this concert) should definitely avoid.
Great musicianship.......2006-07-14
This is an excellent video. There are very solid performances from all the musicians involved.
I am a sax player so I was excited to find out that Maceo Parker was going to be on the video again, as I had seen him also perform with Prince on the Rave video. Maceo is without a doubt one of the most influential alto players alive today.
I was also impressed with Eric Leeds' Tenor sax chops. This was the first time I had heard Eric Leeds and he is an enjoyable sax player to listen to.
The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because I have seen Prince perform in this manner before, and I didn't find the performance to be overly suprising. I enjoyed other videos of his, such as Rave un2 The Year 2000. Honestly, I felt that Rave had a bit more energy and suprises than this one. This performance is a bit more intimate as well as tamed in comparison.
Overall, it is a great show and I would recommend it to any music fan. There is something for everyone here, jazz, blues, r&b and hip-hop fans will all find something to appreciate.
How to make a bad dvd of a good concert.......2006-05-06
AOL music allows you to download the entire concert for free, which is FAR better than this dvd. This is NOT a dvd of the Las Vegas concert; it is a dozen music videos, all of which were created from the concert footage. The director has chopped-and-diced this concert beyond enjoyment. The sound is not in true surround sound, and the MTV-style quick-cuts and wacky angles are so annoying as to make the video unwatchable.

Customer Reviews:
The only worthy "Aladdin" sequel.......2007-08-14
I was really pleased (and relieved) that "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" was a well-made sequel, especially after the embarrassing debacle of the straight-to-video "The Return of Jafar". I rented "Jafar" when it was released, watched it for the first 15 mins., then turned off the VCR in disgust. Everything about it was cheap: cheap story, cheap animation, and cheap execution. It was barely up to Saturday morning cartoon fare, let alone Disney's high standards. Especially disappointing was the exclusion of the comic genius of Robin Williams; didn't Disney realize his voice IS the Genie? A glaring oversight on their part.
Thank goodness they made up for it with this concluding sequel to the Aladdin saga. While a notch below the original, AATKOT restored most of the magic missing from "Jafar".
The subplot of Aladdin getting to know his long-lost, charmingly roguish father was well-handled and poignant. But as with the original film, Williams stole the show as the mischievous and all-powerful Genie, a perfect character for Williams to morph from one impersonation and/or satirical situation into another.
I had it on VHS, but definitely want it on DVD to add to my Disney collection. A fitting conclusion to one of Disney's most treasured animated films.
Aladdin and the king of thieves.......2006-03-23
One of the best disney movies i have ever seen.
It has great songs, and i'd love to find a cd with them on.
I especially like the song 'Thin Air', and also 'There's a Party in Agrabah'.
Robin's back!.......2005-05-07
Robin Williams is back as the Genie, cool, huh?,this movie starts out when Al and Jas are finally getting married, when the wedding gets demolished by the 40 thieves, and Aladdin's dad is really alive!,and this adventure is a father and son expedition for the golden hand of Midas, you'll surely enjoy it!
Thank God for the Return of Robin Williams.......2005-05-02
The first Aladdin was by far the best, the second one was a horrible piece of dribble, but this one isn't too bad. Could it be that they had to make the script better in an effort to snag back Robin Williams? Well, if that's what happened, it worked. Still not up to par with the original, but definitely worth the time to watch it.
Product Description
Aladdin is adjusting to his new life as part of the upper crust. He and Princess Jasmine may not be married yet, but the pressures of palace society have already begun. On top of that, Iago (the parrot pet of Sultan's ex-vizir turned genie, Jafar) appears asking for help and no one is happy to see him. But things begin to look up when Genie returns from his trip around the world. Meanwhile, Jafar's black lamp is discovered by an idiot crook called Abis Mal. By using Abis Mal, Jafar makes his way back to Agrabah with ideas of payback for Aladdin and his friends.
Customer Reviews:
It was good, but not as good as the first one........2005-05-07
This is the sequel to the #1 film of 1992,in this movie, the evil genie Jafar is released from his lamp from a thief named Abis Mal,and he is about to use his powers of pure evil, and Iago has also been released, duh,he released himself!,and Aladdin isn't a street rat anymore,he's gonna become the Sultan's royal vizier. "And when Aladdin becomes sultan, that will make me the grand vizier, only I'm not gonna blow it like that idiot Jafar!"-Iago,and the Genie isn't played by Robin Williams,he's played by that guy who played Homer Simpson, and it features 6 new songs!,oh,and one more thing, will they ever get rid of Jafar forever?,and there's a rule,to destroy a genie, destroy his lamp.

Product Description
SUMMARY: This Technicolor Arabian Nights extravaganza is widely regarded as one of the best (if not the best) fantasy films of the pre-computer technology era. The title character, named Abu (Sabu), befriends a ragged young man named Ahmed (John Justin), who happens to be the rightful prince of Baghdad. The prince has been usurped by his evil vizier Jaffar (Conrad Veidt), who hopes to expand his power by marrying the breathtakingly lovely princess of Basra (June Duprez). To win the princess' hand, Jaffar keeps the childlike King (Miles Malleson) preoccupied with mechanical toys. Once the king has promised the princess' hand to Jaffar, he is disposed of by one of those very toys. The prince and Abu try to stop Jaffar, only to be thwarted by the vizier's magical powers: the prince is struck blind, while Abu is transformed into a dog. It wouldn't do for the bad guy to win this early in the game, thus Abu, returned to human form, finds himself on a deserted beach. Stumbling across an odd-looking bottle, Abu inadvertently releases the bottle's occupant: a gigantic, bombastic genie (Rex Ingram). The genie intends to crush Abu to death, but the wily thief tricks him back into the bottle. In exchange for his freedom, the genie agrees to grant Abu three wishes; at this point, the film really begins to percolate. The Thief of Baghdad was used as the model for the 1992 Disney animated feature Aladdin. Even allowing for the much-improved technical wherewithal at Disney's disposal, nothing has dimmed the lustre of the multi-Oscar-winning The Thief of Baghdad, the sort of film that invariably elicits the reaction "They just don't make 'em like that any more!"

This was terrible.......2007-08-07
The animation is very poorly done, there is no acting, no suspense, and the writing is aweful. I was given this as a child, lost it in my basement ,and recently retrieved it. A friend of mine watched it just last night and were in disbelief that anyone thought that this was good enough to sell. Watch this if you want to feel better about yourself for not having been involved in the creation of this movie.
Lame-O.......2005-09-04
Lame. Lame. Lame. If you like this version of Aladdin, you must have eaten too much paste as a kid and your tastebuds died long ago.
I don't even have to compare it to Disney. You know it's not Disney and I know it's not Disney.
This was totally unwatchable all on its own merits.
Way better than the Disney version!.......2004-08-06
People may think whatever they please about Disney films being better than Goodtimes in quality, but when it comes to entertainment I prefer Goodtimes. This version of the classic tale Aladdin is more fun to watch than the Disney one made somewhere in 1992, it isn't filled with annoying and boring songs and really tells the story, I bet if Disney removed all the songs and crazy genie sequences the main scenes in the movie would be about 30 minutes long. This version has only one song played at the beginning and at the end, and all the rest is great fun to watch, Aladdin himself is kind of a funny guy, very believable and pleasent, Leila is really more charming than Jasmine as well, so, I give this one 5 stars, not because it has great animation, but because it is a lot of fun to watch. Recommended for kids and parents of all ages.
What I'm wondering is, is it really necessary to write (Not Disney) after the collection's titles? I think "(Goodtimes version) would be more appropiate. Disney isn't always the maker of the "original" and certainly not always the best, Aladdin is an example of that.
Better then Disney.......2002-08-07

There's more shtick than you can shake a stick at in this goofy sequel to the 1995 comedy A Kid in King Arthur's Court. Thomas Ian Nicholas returns as Calvin, a deceptively commonplace '90s teen whose pizza-delivery job gets him mixed up in an ancient quest to help Ali Baba save Aladdin--and all of Arabia--from the evil schemes of Aladdin's brother, Luxor. Just as Calvin relied on rollerblades and CD players to help him in the previous movie, his stash of contemporary gizmos gets him out of more than one jam when Luxor's henchmen come looking for him. There's a fair amount of F/X magic here--including the traditional opening of Ali Baba's hideaway at the command "open sesame"--but silliness is the real engine of this movie. (Ali Baba and his Forty Thieves? Try Ali and his Three Lamebrained Brothers.) Comic actor Taylor Negron is very funny as Aladdin's smart-aleck genie, stuck inside a lamp for a thousand years but hip enough to describe Luxor as "gone postal." --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Awesome Movie!!.......2006-05-12
I'm 18 and I love this movie every time I watch it. Yes, the plot as well as the script are extremely corny and cheesy and the actress who plays the princess loks old enough to be in her thirties, but it is an entertaining movie nonetheless. It portrays a nice adventure for anyone wishing to get away from the troubles of life for a while and return later. It's a great modern Aladdin story as was said in another review and I recommend it to anyone, espcially in my generation.
The Kid is Back and Amazon Has Him!.......2006-03-22
You could say this is the Citizen Kane of camel air biscuit movies. Beautifully photographed by Wally Pfister (BATMAN BEGINS) in the same locations where Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark were filmed, this lighthearted sequel to A KID IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT, should not be missed. Please buy many copies often. The writer has 5 kids and needs the residuals.
Classic (predictable) and GREAT for Small Boys!.......2005-06-02
(from a 6 year old's perspective:)Bad Guys in Black - Good guys in White....cool special effects & a princess to fall in love with...."The kid" is totally the hero of the flick, and my 6 year old son and friend were completely enthralled....soooo much is targeted toward girls (princess bride/bratz/powder puff girls/kim possible, etc) that it is NICE to find Traditional Hero Movies that my son can dig his teeth into.....inspired by this one, we bought the "arthur's court", and am guessing it will be even better....am sorry this was the end of the series...Bottom Line: 6-8 year old boys will LOVE this movie...
as enjoyable as a toothache.......2005-04-03
This sequel to the disney movie "Kid in King Arthur's Castle" is as pointless a sequel as Son of the mask. This is really a disney ripoff. The lamp looks the same as Disney's aladdin. The part that gets me confused. If the lamp vanished like 80,000 years ago. How would it end up in a pizza place. Don't waste your money on this stupid movie.
enjoyably stupid.......2004-11-11
little kids might enjoy it. Apparently Aladdin's wife, daughter and his evil brother Luxor very British. and the gene was a [...] hipster. In 8the century arabia they knew how to read English world 'Pizza deivery' and knew what Pizza was.
This is hilariously stupid
