2 out of 5 stars Boooring! .......2006-11-01

I'm a huge welding fan. And frankly, I'm tired of this old school "Introduction to Welding" film style, which typifies the welding industry's rigid standards for "pre-Brando" acting and stiff scripts.

Thank goodness the torch has been passed to a new generation of welding filmakers -- born since 1960, tempered by new technologies, disciplined by flux accidents, proud of our ancient heritage--and unwilling to witness or permit *any more boring welding films*!

And therefore I recommend you move past "Introduction to Welding," and embrace a New Style of welding film -- "Fluxdance." ($18.95 per dvd, 10% discount for orders of 100 or more dvd's).

From the Fluxdance trailer:

In a world of darkness, only dreams can light the way...

*** Fluxdance***

Allison's parents send her off to the top dance college in New York, where she quickly establishes herself as the best dancer in her class. But secretly, she dreams of becoming a welder. At night she sneaks out of her dorm and goes to an abandoned warehouse to practice welding.

One night the headmaster catches Allison sneaking out the window with a welding torch, and places her on probation. Allison's parents are not so forgiving: They disown Allison and cut her off financially. Allison is forced to quit school and take a job, as lead ballerina with the New York City Ballet, to pay for welding supplies. (After three months, she can finally buy what she's long admired from afar -- the BrazenTec 3000 welding gun with a bulb style gas nozzle and high dielectric silicone rubber torch head insulation!!)

One night at the old warehouse, Allison is practicing spot welds and she's having trouble keeping her torch lit. In frustration of all the pressures she's under, she throws down her BrazenTec 3000 and says, "Maybe I should just give up."

Just then, a figure appears out of the shadows and says, "If you give up, you'll never be the best."

As he steps into the light, Allison exclaims, "Why, you're Gump DeSepio (Mr. T), Mr. Welding USA 1983!"

DeSepio says, "You remind me of myself when I started out. I'd like to train you."

"I can do it myself, because I'm sassy!"

"Don't give me no jibba-jabba. You've got raw talent, kid. But you need me to belt-sand that talent, then buff it with 300 grade steel wool and a fine shammy -- so it shines like the sun!"

Cut to the music montage (to "Eye of the Tiger"). Gump and Allison do wind sprints on the beach carrying their welding guns. Allison runs in place and shakes her head around as she does a carbon flux weld. Gump corrects her, "That weld is too sassy, and you're not ready for sass yet! Don't trade your passion for glory!"

In exasperation, she says, "Can't you say anything good about me?"

Gump replies, "You - you make me want to be a better welder."

Allison whispers, "And you - you complete my welding."

Gump and Allison embrace. Gump slowly moves his huge leather gloves down the small of Allison's back. They lift their tinted face shields and start kissing passionately, melding together like a submerged arc weld (agglomerated) with FLUX 81C Classification on a radiographic joist! You get the picture! Inspired by love, Allison then lights her torch with deft efficiency, and does a balletic horizontal and vertical weld that will bring tears to your eyes. Gump gives Allison the thumbs up -- she's ready for the welding competition!

As she waits to compete, Allison realizes her welding torch has a short. "Oh no!" Allison cries out, "Without my BrazenTec 3000, I'll never make it!"

Gump says, "Use this generic welding torch. Talent like yours doesn't need to hide behind a swanky BrazenTec."

"Really?" Asks Allison, looking up in tears.

Gump explains, "The magic wasn't in the BrazenTec 3000. It was inside of you... all along."

Fade in to Allison's parents watching TV and channel surfing. They stumble upon a show where... Allison... is... welding... to "I Believe I Can Fly." When she's done, the crowd goes crazy! The three judges give her raves. Even the British judge says, "I've never seen a high amperage plasma arc weld done with such swan-like grace, such absolute majesty." The MC says, "The votes are in. And 20 million callers voted for............ Allison -- your new American Welder!!!"

Allison's Dad says with pride, "That's my daughter. That's my daughter."

Credits roll to a hip-hop version of "Light My Fire" and welding flux bloopers.

1 out of 5 stars Terribly Titled and Overpriced.......2005-12-26

I couldn't agree more with the other review by Steve. At $80, this DVD is nothing more than an advertisement for welding career. A very inappropiate and misleading title.

1 out of 5 stars A Complete Rip Off.......2005-11-26

I had to give one star to post the review, but this DVD deserves no stars. At almost $80, this DVD is a complete rip-off. It is only about 30 minutes in length. It provides absolutely no details on the welding processes. It does not describe in any detail the differences in different welding methods. It provides no step-by-step guidance to welding. It does give a gloss over of welding careers and safety in welding (for example, avoid standing in water when welding, duh!!). Amazon should be ashamed for selling this video.
