Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater comes to DVD!.......2003-10-14
I love this Hello Kitty gift set! The cartoons are from the 1980's Hello Kitty tv series "Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater," which are variations on popular fairy tales/movies. They feature Hello Kitty, My Melody, Tuxedo Sam, Chip, Catnip & Grinder, who are actors in the theatre.
Each DVD contains 5 fairy tales, and each fairy tale is about 10 minutes long and has its own unique take on the familiar stories. They are also changed to be less violent, nicer and more suited for children (water balloon fights instead of guns). This gift set contains all the episodes from the Furry Tale Theater series (that I know exist), except for "How ScrinChip Stole Christmas." (I am a little sad they left one out of the set!)
The quality of the DVD's are more like TV broadcast quality and this is the reason I've given it 4 stars instead of 5. I think they could've enhanced the quality before putting it onto DVD. I already owned the 2 Furry Tale Theater VHS's (Kitty and the Beast, The Wizard of Paws), so I already knew what to expect.
Each of the individual DVD's contained episodes I had not seen on the videos, so, I decided to get this gift set which has 2 extra DVD's not available for sale individually. I am not disappointed! I'm an adult Sanrio collector and I loved seeing these episodes, and I would feel good about letting my children see these too.
The following is the list of the episodes in each DVD:
"Hello Kitty Becomes a Princess" has Kitty and the Beast, Snow White Kitty and the One Dwarf, Sleeping Kitty, CinderKitty, and KittyLocks and the Three Bears.
"Hello Kitty Saves the Day" contains Grinder Genie and the Magic Lamp, Peter Penguin, Tar-Sam of the Jungle, Paws of the Round Table, and Crocodile Penguin.
"Hello Kitty Goes to the Movies" has The Wizard of Paws, K.T. the Kitty Terrestial, Kitty and the Kong, Cat Wars, and Paws- the Great White Dog-Shark.
The following two are the extra DVD's that come in this set:
"Hello Kitty Plays Pretend" contains The Phantom of the Theater, Frankencat, Catula, The Pawed Piper, and Rumpeldogskin.
"Hello Kitty Tells Fairy Tales" has Robin Penguin, Hello Mother Goose, The Ugly Quackling, Pinocchio Penguin, and Little Red Bunny Hood.

Great for 3 to 5 year old girls.......2004-12-27
Even though the animation is not as high-tech as other cartoons these days, what I like about this set of DVDs is the storyline and lessons (yes it has some good educational elements), and how much my daughter (3 and soon to be 4) LOVES to watch it! Hello Kitty is sweet and benign. Girls especially love the wonderfully nice characters. The stories are BIG on teaching manners and considering other characters' feelings. There is also nothing in these cartoons that will cause your toddler to cry or have nightmares like Disney films often do, which are truly geared to older children because of the violent content and rampant death themes.
Tired of skipping through the endless stream of ads for other movies before the feature plays? Well, you don't have to worry about that here-- you go straight to the feature.
So on my daughter's behalf, and as a parent who appreciates nonviolent content and zero advertisements before the feature, I give it 5 stars.
NOTE: This feature is NOT intended to entertain or relate to adults. You may find it annoying over time, because it's saccharine. But it is PURR-fect for toddlers without being Barney or Boobahs or Teletubbies (which are all so annoying!)
Great for young girls!.......2004-03-13
My daughters (3 and 5) both have loved this video. It is very "girly" - lots of rainbows and hearts. The repetition of songs is lots of fun for children. After little ones get done singing the themes to different segments, they learn lessons on topics such as washing hands, and getting up and ready for the day. There are also guessing games intermittent throughout the video. Just a note, these are quite different from the Hello Kitty videos "Hello Kitty becomes a princess", "Hello Kitty goes to the movies", and the other Hello Kitty videos with the red strip across the top of the disc/video box jacket. There is a different format and supporting characters. Everything is different except for Hello Kitty. The paradise collection is much sweeter, simpler, and lesson oriented. The point is if you like the other type, don't necessarily expect the same thing here. We prefer the Paradise Collection, but older children may enjoy the other style.
