Description
A collection of the most popular and essential Gumby episodes from each of the three decades: 50s, 60s, and 80s. These were personally selected by Joe Clokey, the son of creator Art Clokey, as the key episodes from each of these decades. All episode have been digitally re-mastered and include the original soundtrack.
Customer Reviews:
"...Little Green Slab of Clay".......2007-09-09
Gumby is given a new lease on life, fully restored and better than ever!
I am thoroughly delighted with this collection, although it almost seems like a teaser.
This is a major taste of what the essence of the "GUMBY" series is all about. In this collection, you will find episodes in which Gumby, our favorite little clay boy, gets toy robots to do his chores for him until they end up going on a rampage and destroying the Gumbau home, another in which Gumby learns how to bake from mounds of dough in various stages, in and out of the oven, and still another in which Gumby and Pokey enter a drag race that is run like the ultimate board game. The set spans the many decades that the character was a TV favorite, even capping off with three episodes from the last incarnation of the 1980's.
My one wish is that we get longer sets with any proposed second or third volume. If this is merely an introduction (and, judging from the title, it is), then I can accept it as thus and only hope that we see a lot of my other favorites, including the actual introduction to the character and his trips into outer space and Mirrorland (to look for his lost allowance) and so many trips into books to meet historical figures and...well...just being a kid. What I've always liked about the series is captured in the first three shorts that seem to follow the little clay boy around as he just uses his fertile imagination to solve even the most elementary problems.
Each of these episodes has its original soundtrack, the thing we were so hoping for with that massive, well-intentioned set from Rhino. What Rhino set out to do was fine, but it didn't want to go through the legal battles to get the rights to the original tracks. Art Clokey has apparently succeeded in doing this, now, so let's hope that this is only the first of many, many sets until each and every piece of film that features the little clay boy adventurer and sportsman and kid scientist is indeed fully restored and on our home video shelves to enjoy again and again and never, ever grow tired of. This is the one genuine piece of kid-vid that I can still enjoy as an adult, and it never looked or sounded better!!
The longer, two-chapter episodes are neatly fused into one full episode, and that's okay, because we have the best of both chapters. It is that early period of the series, from the late 1950's that I like so much. Each episode that is included here is placed in its original production order. This isn't complete, but it gives its audience a nice impression of just why the character lasted for so many years.
Please bring us so much more!
I've been waiting sooooooooo long for this!.......2007-08-08
When Rhino released that big Gumby DVD set a few years ago, I was upset that the episodes didn't have their original soundtracks. Instead, they released on DVD the old shows w/ the re-edited soundtracks & voiceovers when the series re-aired in the 80's.
But now, the wait is over! Finally, Gumby is getting the proper DVD treatment it deserves w/ original music & original voicework!

Saturday Morning Cartoon Junkie.......2007-07-31
Hilariously funny. Glad this finally came out on DVD. Brings back fond memories of Saturday mornings.
Edward Everett Horton is the perfect narrator.......2007-05-14
I almost threw the DVD out it had some sort of kids advertisement, as if this collection had anything to do with brood. Someone doing the packaging evidently did not view the product. Wait there is more you can not fast forward; you can not go to the main menu; your and not pause. You just can not do anything but turn the sound off on the set and go to the fridge while waiting.
If you are lucking and have a DVD riper and copier you can fix the problem.
Once you finally get to view the disk it is worth your time. The 15 fairy tails are in blocs of five. Finally you get the fairy tale as it was meant to be unabridged and unvarnished.

Back to my Teen years.......2007-03-22
Just like I remembered. What a kick to hear the music and see the fondly remembered cartoons. Can't wait to get #2.
As Funny Now As They Were Then.......2007-02-08
This is a great DVD. My toddler children love watching it as well as the whole family from parents, grandparents and even great grandparents. The stories are written with humor. My children will grow up knowing the Fractured Fair Tales version of Snow White before the Disney version. This is a good thing in my opinion. I will definitely look for Vol 2 when it becomes available.
A simpler life.......2007-02-07
What a wondrous revivial of a simpler and more joyous life! I've begun sharing the episodes with grandchldren (ages 4, 6, and 8). It's a grand discussion after a viewing! Each has a different "take" on their perception of the underlying themes. From "cute and funny" to "members of Anonymous groups should be respected." And we have been able to skip the trailers. Would like to see a return of the "Aesop's Fables."

pink panther cartoons ..........2007-09-02
the old pink panther cartoons are so much fun to watch ... no dialogue, just music ... the antics of the pink panther are very entertaining ... my 6 year old loves this dvd ... thank you ...
Pink Panther is funny for all........2007-06-02
This is a great collection of Pink Panther cartoons. I was impressed by the length and volume of this dvd, But the icing on the cake is these are still FUNNY as hell. My nephews one 4 and one 10 both laugh at this together....along with me of course. This is great value and fun .
LIfe in pink.......2007-05-14
I thought I was the one who would enjoy this DVD the most, since Pink Panther was my favorite cartoons when I was little, well Surprise!...My 5 years old son fell in love with this Pink Panther collection! A good to have DVD.
My grandchildren loved it!.......2007-05-07
On a recent visit to see my grandchildren I noticed they were watching the old Pink Panther cartoons, that I watched as a child, and they were laughing and giggling. I decided to buy them the DVD so they could watch Pink Panther anytime they wanted. Great to watch my old favorites which now I share with my grandchildren!
The Original Cool Cat.......2007-03-28
From the beautiful graphics on the package cover to the 27 cartoons within, this classic release is in every way a delight. So why not five stars for the felicitous feline? Simply because of the annoying ad you have to skip every time to watch a cartoon. What's more, the ad urges viewers not to steal movies. Ironically, it's addressed to people who actually bought the DVD, the only audience you can be sure didn't steal these cartoons by illegally downloading them.
So this becomes a prolonged exercise in punishing the innocent (I've checked two other volumes in the series and they both have the ad). Why doesn't MGM pay to put their anti-theft message on television where the guilty parties can view it instead of making the buyer pay to see it? I don't know if the deluxe set with all the individual discs in it also has the ad on every disc, but the menu opens with the same graphics, so I suspect it does.
Although I waited for this release with anticipation, it's not worth it having to skip the ad every time to get to the cartoons. Enough is enough. It's time to rebel. As with Shout Factory releases, I will not be running to buy any more MGM cartoons on DVD until I know they are not bogged down with ads.

Saturday Morning Cartoon Junkie part 2.......2007-07-31
Love Mr Peabody. I originally watched this series in B&W. Ooh, that makes me sound old. I loved it then and I love it still. I am looking forward to Vol 2.
Great Memory.......2007-07-25
I want to start off by saying that I am not a serious collector so my review will not be based on other products of this nature. I simply bought the video to share with my children. I wanted them to see what animation was like when I was little. They couldn't believe we only watched cartoons on Saturday morning. This was a great memory and we had a wonderful time watching Mr. Peabody and Sherman solve the historical mysteries.
Great Gift!.......2007-01-09
I had purchased this for my husband for christmas, and the good thing about it is that not only did he love it, but it gives my children a chance to see really good cartoons for a change!
This one is a definate order for anyone who enjoys the good old cartoons!
Buy this DVD, even if every fiber in your body says "no"!.......2005-06-12
Mr. Peabody is a TV talisman. I always walk away from these cartoons feeling magically transformed and energized.
In the realm of vintage cartoons made on minimal budgets, Jay Ward rules! Peabody & Sherman, along with Rocky & Bullwinkle, etc, were very much like sly, fast-talking radio plays staged by smartly stylized cartoon characters. This DVD also contains rare Bullwinkle puppet segments that were used in the early broadcasts. They too underline how WAY ahead of the curve Ward was in terms of getting sophisticated and sometimes subversive humor in under the radar.
By the way, Peabody's "boy" Sherman was voiced by a man in his 40's named Robert Tetley. Amazing.
Oh, This Goes Wabac!!!!.......2005-05-23
Oh, those childhood memories. Those very inaccurate history lessons, very bad puns, and cheezy animation. No, I'm not talking about "South Park." I'm referring to those Jay Ward shorts in the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Still, this IS funny stuff. Well worth owning. Anyone interested in animation or those wacky 60s and 70s should make this required viewing. The jokes are a little stale now, but were they ever that fresh anyway. Who cares!!! It's Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman. Sit (way)back and enjoy.

He-Man season 2 volume 1.......2007-04-03
I was glad to see this come out. I've never seen the second season on TV, as I had to prioritize my studying at the time it was on.
He-Man and Skeletor are continuing their beautifully animated battle of good vs evil in Eternia.
Buy all four volumes of season 1 and 2 and stack them side by side on your shelves to enjoy the picture the covers make. Without giving anything away, you can look forward to a good set of extras too.
I'm hanging out in hope that they'll release She-Ra season 2 this year as the obvious follow-up to this.
he-man still rules 20 years later!!!.......2007-03-10
I, like everyone else grew up on he-man. once I found out they were on dvd I had to have it. watching them now on dvd has made me love it even more than ever! this dvd is just another must-have. if you like he-man then there is no excuse not to buy it! trust me the episode and sound quality are excellent, theres tons of bonus features and 2 collectible cards too. this dvd set is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face! amazon has an excellent guarantee also, if you have a problem with it. I have all of the dvd sets and so far a couple of them have not played correctly. certain episodes skip even though there is no scratches on the disk. they have done it since new. amazon had no trouble exchanging it hassle free for me, and in fact this set was an exchange! dont be discouraged though, theyre still totally worth buying!
Holds up well, even after all this time.......2007-02-11
This set was put together by people who love the series. Not only do we get to watch the episodes but the extras give more background and insight into the people behind the scenes. Money well spent!
Very well maintained product.......2007-01-14
I was pleased with the great condition that the product arrived in.

One of the most talented animators of the silent and early sound eras, Ub Iwerks designed the physical appearance of Mickey Mouse. He animated the first Mickey shorts almost single-handedly, doing more than 700 drawings in a single day. Iwerks's animation was rubbery, weightless, and appealing, but his approach was at odds with the increasing realism Walt Disney sought. In 1930, he left Disney to start his own studio, but despite his talent--and the exceptional animators who worked for him--he produced old-fashioned, unfunny cartoons that couldn't compete with the more sophisticated storytelling and brash gags in the shorts from Disney, the Fleischers, Warner Bros., and MGM. In 1940, Iwerks returned to the Disney studio, where he won Oscars for his innovations in optical printing and traveling mattes.
The most entertaining films on this disc are the campy musicals such as "Humpty Dumpty" (1935), with its Busby Berkeley chorus of dancing eggs, and the jazz-inflected "Little Boy Blue" (1936). Typically, the title character in "The Valiant Tailor" (1934) is a round-headed nonentity who scares off the Giant by making a hive of bees sting him; he never comes alive, the way Mickey Mouse does in Disney's "Brave Little Tailor" (1938). --Charles Solomon
Description
Volume 1 of a celebration of the pioneering solo cartoon work of Ub Iwerks, Walt Disney's foremost animator/collaborator in the formative early years. The first fully animated color cartoon version of "Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp" (1934)...the legendary Flip the Frog in the slapstick masterpiece "The New Car" (1931)...the original cartoon adaptation of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," "The Headless Horseman" (1934)...the little-known animation star Willie Whopper in the surrealistic sci-fi classic "Stratos Fear" (1933)...and a famous "lost" film, a full-color cartoonization of "Don Quixote" (1934). These are just a few of the 58 cartoons captured on these two DVDs (available separately) of rediscovered masterworks from the very beginnings of the Golden Age of American Animation.
Customer Reviews:
Forgotten Cartoons.......2007-01-19
We gave this DVD to our 46 year old son for Christmas per his request.
I'm sure he'll enjoy hours of enjoyment from these forgotten cartoons. This will be added to his DVD library of old cartoons.
Great for cartoon fans, but maybe a little dull for everyone else.......2006-05-29
I'm a huge fan of classic animation from the 30's, so I'm delighted to have this large collection at such a great price. But I do think people who prefer the laughs of Warner Bros. or the polish of Disney shorts will be disappointed. Flip the Frog and Willie Whopper aren't exactly household names, and it's not hard to see why. The cartoons, though well-made, lack much personality and the action is too often repetitive.
The picture and sound quality varies from fair to good, with many of the ComicColor 'toons looking a bit washed out. Flip, in basic black & white, at least looks better than the color cartoons in this collection.
Still, for the price, it's worth having if you're into this sort of thing.
Historical collection, and quite interesting........2005-11-02
Many of the other commentators of Volume 1 and Volume 2 have very nicely described the contents of these two collections. I'd like to just say that I found these cartoons to be very essential for anyone interested in the history of animation.
Flip the Frog comes across as another Mickey Mouse, Willie Whopper is somewhat interesting, while the Comicolor series is somewhat similar to Silly Symphonies. I'm not surprised at this since Ub worked at Disney, and is responsible for the early animation of Mickey Mouse and several Silly Symphonies.
I found the liner notes helpful in explaining the social context of these cartoons. Many are poking fun at the Hollywood stars of the day (Disney and Warner also have several of their own similar cartoons), others have relevant commentary about various conditions in our country at the time, and others are just interesting trips into the supernatural. Keep in mind that all these things have been pursued by Disney, Warner Brothers, etc., so there is nothing unusual here. There are plenty of sight gags and the usual exaggerations that early cartoons are especially known for.
Also, I think it would be fair to say that the characters and stories as a whole tend not to progressively develop over the short life of Ub's studio. If you treat all the cartoons simply as individual accomplishments, then it's not a big deal, but as a whole they don't really change much. This isn't necessarily a problem, just an observation.
It's kind of interesting to me that I always felt I was almost watching Disney cartoons, but at the same time there are definitely other edgier influences at work here. The fact that Ub's staff of animators largely came from the Fleischer studio, and included Betty Boop's creator, made the difference. Because of this, innuendo abounds in several of Flip's cartoons, produced from 1930-1933 (pre-Code era). One cartoon, "The Milkman" ends with Flip and the kid singing "Hail, Hail, the gang's all here", and the horse responds by singing "What the hell do we care?". The second time around, as the horse startes to sing the same response, Flip bashes him over the head with a milk bottle to stop him from using the "naughty" word. Holy cow!!! Can you imagine Disney doing this? In "The Office Boy", the sexual innuendos hit a high, especially with the secretary. I was laughing for being taken by surprise. I didn't expect this sort of content. Well, get ready for an interesting time. By the way, unless I'm mistaken, it seemed like Volume 2 was the one for the edgier cartoons. Willie Whopper's cartoons are not too bad, really. They are tall tales told by a kid. Lastly, the Comi-Color cartoons, though fairly delightful, never measure up to the quality of Disney's Silly symphonies. I'd have to say that they are probably the highest quality cartoons Ub produced.
Both DVD cases say that these cartoons are "now viewed for the first time on DVD in unfaded, pristine prints from the orginal negatives". I must protest! Many of these cartoons don't look or sound pristine at all, but are in many cases faded and dirty, with sound to match. It depends on the cartoons. Most of the Flip cartoons aren't so bad, the Willie Whopper ones are the worst of these two collections, and The Comi-Color cartoons all seem to have a softness about them (video and audio). I'd say that perhaps this is the best we can get our hands on, but, really, to say "unfaded, pristine prints" is just flat-out not the case. Overall, most of them are quite watchable, but just keep these observations in mind. I give both collections four stars due to the technical issues.
Worths every penny.......2004-12-31
The effort and creativity put into these cartoons are commendable. And it's really such a different style from cartoons today.
Fantastic DVD.......2004-06-23
It's about time that a company focused its attention on Ub Iwerks. The Cartoons That Time Forgot, are literally just that, cartoons that have not seen the light of day from the time they were made. Ub Iwerks got his start working for Walt Disney, and animated the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoons as well as some of the early Silly Symphonies.
These cartoons clearly show some influences from the Disney studios, some characters look amazingly Mickey Mouseish, and many have the same charm of the Disney shorts. These cartoons are a good introduction to some cartoon characters that never quite caught on, like Flip the Frog and Willie Whopper (who?).
If you are a vintage animation lover, then this DVD belongs in your library!

Description
"HEY, ROCKY, WATCH ME PULL A CLASSIC OUTTA MY HAT!"
Before Bart and Homer, Rocky and Bullwinkle defined smart TV comedy. Now they rule again on DVD!! Cartoon superstars Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose are back with three of their funniest serial-adventures! (That's 16 chapters, Low -I.Q.'ers!) In "The Last Angry Moose," Bullwinkle discovers that audiences laugh themselves sick at his dramatic talent.
"The Three Moosketeers" When the Three Musketeers find themselves a couple musketeers short, it's up to Rocky and Bullwinkle to save the day.
"The Guns Of Abalone" The dastardly Boris Badanov is up to his old tricks, but there is one thing that stands between him and world domination. Two things, if you count Rocky!
Wittily written and voiced, these timless classics are a fond salute to old-time melodrama and remain some of the funniest cartoons ever made.

Great Memory.......2007-07-25
I am not a serious collector. I just bought the video to share a childhood memory with my children. We really enjoyed the videos. Would recommend to share with our babies who are accustomed to such a different form of animation.
Reruns!.......2007-01-28
The Plot Summary above says this DVD includes "Fractured Fairy Tales", "Peabody's Improbable History", the "Adventures of Dudley Doright", and "Aesop and Son". It doesn't. It does contain 16 Rocky and Bullwinkle chapters, which would be well worth the price, except that 12 of the 16 chapters are already available on the Complete Season DVDs. So, the only new material you get is the four chapters of "The Guns of Abalone". For die hard fans only.
Where is the Complete season 4? Season 5?.......2006-07-26
Classic Media does it to us again. Screwing the fans over, refusing to release season 4 or 5. Making us wait 1 whole year between season 1, season 2, and season 3. Fans, show your support for releasing the whole season, and avoid these "Best of" dvd's, until they wise up and give us what we want. The original TV, uncut, broadcasts of Seasons 4 and 5! on DVD glory! It's not like anyone will broadcast R & B anymore, when's the last time YOU saw it? on any channel? We need seasons 4 & 5! Oh, and Baywatch: Hawaii too! :)
literally the best of ROCKY and BULLWINKLE.......2006-06-27
kinda upsetting when i watched this. i thought i would be getting the best episodes that originally aired on TV, with the fractured fairy tales and mr peabody and all. unfortunately, when they say "the best of rocky and bullwinkle" they MEAN Rocky and Bullwinkle, which i mistook for Rocky and Bulllwinkle and Friends. mr peabody and all are not featured on this dvd. still funny, still entertaining, but somewhat of a let down.
Description
Follow the adventures of the Calico, an ocean-going research vessel under the command of Captain Carl Majors and his crew, scientist Dr. Darien Quinn, her teenage nephew Pete, and first mate Brock. The protector of the ship is Godzilla. He befriended the ship's crew after they had rescued a younger, winged version of Godzilla named Godzooky. During their travels, the crew of the Calico face many dangers like tidal waves and earthquakes. Luckily, Godzilla is always on hand to save the day with his mighty strength, fiery breath and red-laser like rays that shoot from his eyes.

TOONS OF MY CHILHOOD.......2007-07-06

Godzilla Vol.1.......2007-05-08
Thanks for this product. I have been looking for this product for a few years now.
only 4 episodes, but Godzilla's sexy as ever.......2007-02-16
I am disapointed that this disk has only 4 episodes, for the price it should have been like 10 eps. or so. but what makes it worth it is seeing both the big G and Godzuki drawn so sexily.
Retro and refreshing.......2007-01-10
My kids love this Godzilla/Godzuki cartoon. A great alternative to those more violent Godzilla movies out there for the younger set.
greatest adventure cartoon EVER.......2006-12-07
this was my favorite when I was a kid, and still is...
as old as it is, it still captivates my own children ages 9 and 3, who are used to the fast-paced, confusing modern storylines of Pokemon and others...
the best thing is, is that there are recently produced Godzilla movies by Toho with better special effects (for adults and kids), and recently produced Godzilla toys available in toy stores all across the country, so that your child can also join in the adventures, or make their own!
my only qibble, is I wish they would release the rest of the cartoons seasons / episodes

Description
"I hate those no-goodniks, Moose and Squirrel!"
Boris Badenov's past is clouded in mystery, as befits one who insists on top billing as "The World's Greatest No-goodnick." Indeed, it's even doubtful if anyone has seen the real Boris for years and years; for he is such a master of disguise that most government agents are pretty much agreed that his regular appearance is merely his prop "villain's" outfit.
Natasha Fatale, feminine counterpart to Boris Badenov, is a former Miss Transylvania. Although most of her younger life remains a mystery, there is substantial evidence that Natasha is the only child of Axis Sally and Count Dracula. Although Boris has repeatedly asked for her hand, she has adamantly refused to part with it. Away from the set of "The Bullwinkle Show", Natasha raises tarantulas and is active in civic affairs, being national chairman of the Society To Restore The Real Meaning Of Halloween.

Great enterainment and small history lesson for youth.......2007-09-14
My daughter loves these movies, an old favorite of my husbands also. They are humorous, tell a story and paint an entertaining picture of history.
Great Memory.......2007-07-25
I am not a collector of these videos. They will have other comments than my purpose of the purchase. I bought the video to share with my children. I wanted them to see the cartoons that I watched when I was little. They enjoyed Natasha and Boris and will watch the videos again.
This was a great memory. I really enjoyed watching the video.
Three more stories.......2007-01-28
In all, there were 28 Rocky and Bullwinkle serials, from the 40 episode Jet Fuel Formula to the 4 episode Moosylvania Saved, 326 episodes in all. The three complete seasons available on DVD served up the first 13 serials, a total of 222 episodes. You can pick up one new 4 episode story on The Best of Rocky and Bullwinkle. This DVD contains three serials in 14 chapters, "Pottsylvania Creeper", "Moosylvania", and "Moosylvania Saved". Just 11 more serials (86 episodes) to go.
The Best of Boris and Natasha, Vol. 1 ( .......2006-08-17
I love the Bulwinkle and Rocky show. It's a shame they only came out just a few episodes. It would have been nice if they had the complete Bulwinlke and Rocky series on DVD. Good video and would recommend it's purchase.
