The Wonderful Memories!.......2007-08-21

Oh the memories! I have not had this wonderful of a time in many a year. I was transported back to a time of days gone by, and as I watched this show I actually teared up in melancholy remembrance of childhood. Half way through the season, I remembered something that I had not thought of in years, my Coon Skin Cap! I put the DVD on pause, and headed up into the attic. After hours of searching, I finally found it. I then ran, almost like I was a child again, back to the TV room, but this time with my trusty Coon Skin Cap on my head. As I watched the rest of season 5, I thought of all my exciting childhood adventures. I have a bad back now, and am not employed, but that did not stop me from jumping up at one point to let Daniel Boone know someone was sneaking up on him! My mom thought I had gone crazy. This is a must have for any fan of a by gone era.

I wish I could give this more stars........2007-05-03
I have the first two seasons, and I am anxious for the third to ship. Yesterday, I watched the last episodes of season two. My family and I had been watching one episode each night. To not have one to watch tonight is like losing a friend. This may be the greatest television show in history. It is a shame that more of this quality are not made today.

While the series isn't necessarily historically accurate on all things, it is a fun show to watch. Dan'l has long been a hero of my husbands and my whole family has enjoyed watching this series.

just as great as the 1,2,3 season. there is alot of wholesome,thoughtfulness and creativeness put into the seasons shows. it may be old but the writing was well thought out and fess parker and the gang out perform themselves as usual.I grew up on daniel boone and still enjoy watching. We should go back living that way again off the land.

This was truly an entertaining show about frontier life with a nice ensemble of actors. The one and only "Fess Parker", was truly the best choice for this role, like he was as Davy Crockett. The stories are interesting with plenty of action, and it makes you feel like you were actually living back in those times.

You won't go wrong in purchasing this series.

What a Boone, what a doer, what a dream come truer, was he!

When John Travolta first opens his mouth during the opening credits of The General's Daughter and speaks in a terrible Southern cracker drawl, one briefly hopes that the movie will turn out to be just as hilariously bad. Unfortunately, the accent is soon revealed to be part of a disguise, and the movie is just as quickly unveiled as a clumsy, run-of-the-mill potboiler. A female officer is discovered strangled and tied to the ground; she's the title character, and because of the general's political ambitions, the mystery of who did it and why has to be wrapped up in 36 hours by Travolta and fellow CID officer Madeleine Stowe (Last of the Mohicans, 12 Monkeys). Sexual violence and lurid S&M have been thrown in to shore up the incomprehensible plot, but that only adds to the queasy atmosphere. The supporting actors--an impressive collection including James Woods (Salvador), Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), and James Cromwell (Babe, L.A. Confidential)--don't embarrass themselves, but even they can't make sense of their blustering, macho dialogue. It's amazing that screenwriter William Goldman (who wrote such great and genuinely thrilling films as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Marathon Man, All the President's Men, and Misery) left his name attached to this script; there's no sign of his usual skill and intelligence. Madeleine Stowe, a graceful presence in any film, is equally wasted. Directed with a lot of empty flash by Simon West (Con Air). --Bret Fetzer

The General's Daughter is a powerful film about conspiracy, lust, and above all, betrayal. It tracks the excellent Nelson DeMille novel of the same name fairly closely, and tells a compelling story that engages the viewer. John Travolta, in particular, does a stellar job as CID agent Paul Brenner. Madeleine Stowe is perfect as Sara Sunhill. The rest of the cast turn in excellent performances as well, with the possible exception of James Cromwell, of whom I am not a fan.

Some critics (and some reviewers) panned this movie, which I do not understand. At least this one has a plot, a storyline, and moves things along. Many of the overlong, tedious productions that Hollywood and its foreign rivals have been belching out for the past 20 years do none of these things. This one has no long dreary interludes, and every scene is relevant to the story. The main flaw in this film, in fact, is its downbeat tone. This is not a happy story, and the film utterly fails to inject any lightheartedness into the storyline, which is something DeMille did very successfully in the novel, by the way.

The soundtrack of this film is quite good. It is one of those soundtracks that significantly adds to the drama of the film.

Strong acting and story come together perfectly .......2007-05-05
"The General's Daughter" is a great thriller with an interesting story. A week before the retirement of a general, his base is beset by a scandal involving his daughter who is found dead, naked and pined down by tent steaks. A military investigator (John Travolta) is called in to find the killer. He has 36 hours to solve the case before the FBI arrives and exposes the scandal to the public. Travolta is partnered with an ex-girlfriend to investigate the crime.

Unraveling the mystery behind the general's daughter murder creates an air of suspense. We are kept guessing who may be behind the murder, as it seems nearly everyone is somehow involved. As we slowly learn more about the daughter, we piece together more of what happened to her. The strong acting and story come together perfectly creating excellent entertainment. I highly recommend "The General's Daughter" to those who enjoy thrillers and suspenseful films.

I'm a big DeMille fan, and I enjoyed "Daughter" thoroughly. However, if I had had to read one more trip down rifle range road, I would have put this one away. Good story, good suspense, maybe not the greatest ending.

I cannot imagine a W04 in the army so sure of himself that he would talk to senior officers the way Brenner did in this book, and I cannot believe a W04 would ever have the authority on his own to grant immunity to a prisoner.

I recently ordered "Daniel Boone Season 2"
I read all the reviews and I still didn't know if I would like it very
much, after all I barely remembered the show.
When It came, I put a disc in to see how I liked it.
WOW! It's so good!
I don't find anything of it's quality on tv today.
The stories are great! The picture quality is excellent!
The color is vivid! The acters can really ACT!
They really knew how to make good television shows back then!
I recommend this series to anyone tired of what passes for entertainment on TV today.
If you get this set, You will be pleasently surprized!
When I can afford it I will be adding more of this series to my collection.
What a Great show!!.......2007-06-19
Just got Season 2 from Amazon and it looks great! Since my family had a B&W TV when I was growing up--until my older sister bought us a color TV with her own money--this is actually my first time seeing "Daniel Boone" in color. It doesn't look much like Kentucky, but whatever part of California they filmed it in sure is pretty.
As with season 1, the acting is still good. Kind of miss Yadkin, but everyone else is back. My sons (ages 12 & 10) love this show as much as I do, proving that you don't have to be crass to attract the modern kids--just tell good stories.
One last thing, were Jemina's eyes really that blue or is that a trick of the restoration?

I have waited years for Daniel Boone to be released on DVD. I Grew up on this stuff (Tells you something about my age neh?) Thats ok, the world needs a little nonstalgia in this cynical age. Especially with what is ahead. The world needs more Heros, even if they are over romanticised hollywood fiction. "What a dream commer truer"

Brought back memories a child watching the show. Now I have passed it on to my daughters as we sit on family night and watch the shows. Great family time show on courage, strength and acceptance.

Talk about an opening. The first few minutes of John Carpenter's Vampires--in which James Woods's vampire killer leads a dawn raid on a New Mexico "goon nest" of bloodsuckers--not only suggests a horror movie that will not pull any punches, it even evokes some of the more disturbing dream-memories of American Westerns. Muscular and uncompromised, the sequence suggests a new Carpenter classic unraveling before one's eyes. Well, dream on. Things don't quite work out that way, but this is still a film to reckon with. There are a few serious (and surprising) misjudgments on the director's part, particularly a mishandling of Sheryl Lee's role as a prostitute poisoned by the bite of a "master vampire" (who pretty much wiped out Woods's team of goon terminators). But aside from some weaknesses, the action is jolting, the suggested complicity of the Catholic Church in destroying monsters is provocative, and the traces of Howard Hawks's continuing influence on Carpenter's storytelling are in evidence. --Tom Keogh

John Carpenter still turns out these low budget horror movies like no one else. Some work some don't but almost all are fun to see. This one WORKS FOR ME!
James Woods(who never gives a bad performance) is a super vampire killer working for the Vatican killing vampires anywhere they live. In the opening scene his team raids a hiding place and wipe the floor with the undead,only to have a master vampire follow them and wipe out most of the crew.
After that the chase and hunt is on, and it is one big thrill ride. Sure the movie has some problems but in Carpenters hands the movie flows well and has some genuine shocks to it. Great fun!

Jack Crow (James Woods), Montoya (Daniel Baldwin) and a team of vampire killers hunt down bloodsucking fiends from beyond the grave in New Mexico. Once they had succeeded in killing the undead cretins, they throw a celebration party at a motel until an uninvited party crasher who is a ancient vampire master Valeck (Thomas Ian Griffith) mutilates nearly half of the slayers and guests leaving only Jack and Montoya with a lovely hooker (Sheryl Lee) to survive. The hooker has been bitten by the vampire master and is the only link to find Valeck and stop him before he can find a relic that can make him powerful.

Entertaining, bloody and well done vampire saga from John Carpenter who brought you "Halloween", "The Thing" and "Escape from New York". James Woods steals the show as Jack Crow who is the wisecracking vampire hunter with attitude and Sheryl Lee is one fine fox especially her nude scene, the film has done well at the box-office and has a small following. It's truly one of the 90's best horror movies and one of the most underrated vampire movies there is, it's a electrifying mix of modern western, gore, action and horror with some laughs combined in this is a must have for fans of vampire flicks.

This DVD has good picture and sound with extras like director's commentary, photo gallery and trailers especially to this movie.

Iknow this is short, but coming from a movie expert, this movie is awesome. The effects are awesome, there is like 3 or 4 scenes where people are decapitated. trust me this is a gory movie, a must see for gore fans.

This is based on the book VAMPIRE$ by John Steakley. James Woods is a cynical vampire hunter and leads a team sanctioned by the Vatican. But after a job in the Southwest things go wrong. Suddenly a vampire shows up who is immensely powerful and knows Woods by name. In just moments the vampire slaughters everyone present, slayers, cops, prostitutes. Only those who were not there survived. To make matters worse, the Monsignor in charge of the slayers has arrived from the Vatican and wishes to meet with Woods. Woods is introduced to a new priest for the team and told to assemble and train a new team. But Woods is ticked off and wants to know how a vampire can be so powerful and also knows his name.

Woods does not follow his orders. Instead he tries to track down the vampire. It seems this is the original vampire; the one who spawned the rest. The vampire was created during a botched exorcism and seeks to perform a new ritual that will make him even more powerful and eliminate some of his weaknesses. Woods has little time to find the vampire and put a stop to him. Woods also has to put up with team members who are in grave danger of turning into vampires themselves. Armed with guts, a hatred of vampires, and some modern weaponry Woods is all that stands between the world and total domination by vampire.

This is a James Woods movie pure and simple. Sure, it has vampires, action, and women, but it is Woods that makes the movie. His character is wonderful. You have to wonder at how desperate the Vatican is for slayers to even tolerate Woods let alone employ him. The slaying techniques are different, efficient, and very sensible. All in all a pretty fun movie with James Woods at his absolute best. Fans of Joss Whedon's Firefly will probably get a kick out of the score which seems to have inspired the music in Firefly. Check it out.

These movies are great! The morality and scruples that these shows teach is hard to find in todays Entertainment world of Sex, Drugs and anti Christian agenda of todays Hollywood.

The release of the Daniel Boone T.V. shows have made me so happy. I am looking forward to getting every single season. I grew up watching Daniel Boone on T.V. I think it is good holsom family shows that have a good moral meaning. This is something that is not found in television shows of today. I would love to see more of the great shows released. Boonesborough's men, away from the fort processing salt, are ambushed by warring Choctaws and Boone orders the men to surrender. Led to the Indian encampment, Boone bargains for the settlers' lives, but the Indians prepare for an attack on the fort, now only defended by women and children. Meanwhile, the water supply at the fort is running out and help from the militia is far away. With the powder supply blown up, there seems little chance that Boonesborough will be able to survive an attack.
