Since its 1994 debut, Disney's animated series Gargoyles has attracted a sophisticated viewership for its unusually thoughtful storyline, mature characters, literary allusions (Arthurian lore, Shakespeare), and parade of celebrity voiceovers. Part Gothic fantasy and part contemporary urban drama, Gargoyles begins with a brutal, 10th-century battle over a Scottish castle, which is guarded at night by winged gargoyles who become flesh in the dark (but who return to stone by day). Under the leadership of Goliath (Keith David), the gargoyles ward off an attack by Vikings, yet are met with disdain by those they protect, including a princess and her advisors. Such is the gargoyles' lot until they are betrayed by a friend and turned to stone for a thousand years. Rescued by a billionaire named Xanatos (Jonathan Frakes)--who breaks the spell by purchasing the castle and relocating it atop his Manhattan skyscraper--Goliath and his friends slowly adapt to the modern world and figure out whom they can trust. In a moving season finale, they adopt New York City as the home they vow to protect. With a certain urgency in every episode, tangled relationships between Goliath and his several allies and enemies (as well as characters who belong somewhere between), and a vocal cast full of Star Trek types (Michael Dorn, Nichelle Nichols, Marina Sirtis, among others), Gargoyles has great appeal to thinking viewers of any age. Special features include the original show pitch by series creator Greg Weisman. --Tom Keogh

More Plz.......2007-05-13
I give it a four because I wish that they had season two for this amount of money, but they don't. SO, I give it a four because it makes me want more than I can afford.
disappointed with manufacter error.......2007-02-20
I am sadly returning this set. On disc one all the episodes are not there. You won't notice unless you put in the disc and watch with your kids. I love the series but I paid for all of it not part of it.
Wonderful series, but, disney...........2007-02-03
While I have loved gargoyles since it first aired on TV, I am tired of disney's tactics on selling their products. Everytime they need money or try to boost sales its the same "Its going into the vault" or "If we dont make $1.5 mill on a dvd we are not going to bother with our customers" Im sure its like that with many companies but Im tired of the blackmail from disney specifically.
This time 2 years ago, they put bambi in the vault, only to re-release it and make it a "special edition" and send it BACK into the vault along with Narnia. Then with the sad attempts to make sequels and ruin perfectly good storylines? Cinderella 3???? WTH was THAT!?
While I do love the gargoyles series, If they choose not to release it,
then I will just download it.
Prime Satanimation..........2007-01-18
"...It was a time of darkness... it was the age of gargoyles!"
Ever wonder what gargoyles did after dark? This is the main premise behind this marvellous Satanimation. The ancient gargoyles awakened by Sorcery into the modern world. With them, comes chivalry & nobility. But also, a host of enemies to contend against. A beautiful female detective aids Goliath, & his band of fellow gargoyles, to fight Xanatos, their major nemesis.
Endlessly entertaining. Excellent animation. Repleat with Satanic aesthetics. There is power & majesty here, & many inspirational triumphs & adventures.
You Gotta Love It!.......2007-01-13
This is serious cartooning- none of that kiddy stuff here. It can be blatently dark and ominous at one point, but some lighter moments are thrown in to help us realize that being a Gargoyle in NYC can't be all that easy when your used to guarding a Scottish castle for a few hundred years. It is very well written, and has a real story line one can follow as opposed to some rubbish thrown in for filler. Good for older kids and adults who get tired of "real people shows", but may make some little ones a bit uneasy(face it- gargoyles were not meant to be pretty!).
It had too short of a life, but at least we can enjoy what we had whenever we want, now. Go get seasons I and II!

A little more complicated but no less intelligent than the first season, the animated Gargoyles: Season 2, Volume 1 follows the further adventures of the ancient Scots clan of gargoyles relocated to modern Manhattan and freed from a curse that had turned them to stone. Still sworn to protect their new, adopted city while dealing with the underhanded, sometimes criminal machinations of the man who lifted the curse--billionaire Xanatos (voice by Jonathan Frakes)--gargoyles leader Goliath (Keith David) and his fellow misfits cope with consequences of some very modern problems (genetic engineering, pirate television) as well as some from the days of magic (time travel, evil spells).
In the 26 episodes in this boxed set (half the content of season 2), Xanatos is particularly busy cooking up mischief--some of which goes very wrong, such as the forced metamorphosis of several kidnapped humans into winged monsters, an experiment conducted by one of the mad scientists working in his labs. A couple of multi-part stories, such as "City of Stone," in which New York's inhabitants are turned to stone under a dark spell, and "Avalon," in which Goliath ventures into King Arthur territory, enrich and anchor season 2 with consistent storylines. As with the first season, these new tales have an impressive vocal cast, including Michael Dorn, Tim Curry, David Warner, and Sheena Easton. --Tom Keogh
Description
The ancient struggle between heroes and villains continues among the skyscrapers and bridges of a modern metropolis as GARGOYLES returns for a second season. Enjoy the first 26 episodes of the second season of GARGOYLES in this special 3-disc DVD set complete with hours of exclusive, fan-requested bonus features.

A True Epic.......2007-09-09
Gargoyles is one of the best cartoon series ever created. It appeals to every age group, children, teenagers and adults. It has a good amount of action but at the same time, always ends with a good moral for the story at the conclusion of each show. The animation is excellent, both the backgrounds and the characters are beautifully done. The voice actors are great and were well picked and the sound tracks are beautiful. But, most importantly, Gargoyles has excellent story lines. Every story in the show draws you in and makes you to see more.
My only disappointment is that they have not released volume 2 of this season yet. Hopefully in the near future! This is an epic cartoon series and a great addition to anyone's DVD collection.

Not as good as my memory or is it that Disney sped up the eps?.......2007-09-07
Either Gargoyles is not as good as memory tells me it was or Disney did some editing (like speeding up the episodes to fit as much on the three DVDs as possible because something seemed quite off when I was viewing my recently purchased Gargoyles Season Two Vol 1.
Now there is a lot of episodes spread over the three disks. It has some of the best episodes of the series: The Mirror, Vows and the incredible multi-parter "City of Stone."
However, it was distracting that the picture quality seemed mediocre and crackly. I know it is from the mid-90s but Gundam Wing was too and it looks good on DVD.
Not only that, the episodes seem to play very fast. Again, that may be just me.
But add to that, Disney didn't bother with chaptering so for each episode, one has to go through the opening. It is not a huge deal but it seems standard now for chaptering to be part of the DVD presentation.
The content of series is so wonderful which is why I give it 4 stars, but the presentation of it on the DVD seems very lacking. It almost seems like Disney took the VHS tapes and copied it over because the picture quality seemed crackly and spotty at times.
August 2007 what are they waiting for to release Vol.2 ?.......2007-08-15
It's been more than 2 years since they released the half of season two. It looks like they were not even planning to release the rest.
They really don't care about us they only care about the sales. They probably did not sale enough of the first half to bother.
It's Gargoyles, how can you miss it.......2007-08-12
Full of action, drama, humor and romance, Gargoyles will always be my favorite show and you'll love it too. Don't miss a great action packad ride through a tale where gargoyles try to win the respect of humans in the Big Apple. You might even recognize a few voices too. A must buy for any hero lover and action seeker.
Gargoyles Season 2, Vol. 2 - Where Are You???.......2007-08-04
Hey Disney, as you can see we all love this show and paid for HALf of a season, so where is Vol. 2???
Please get that out on DVD as well.

GARGOYLES !! WHEN TIMES WERE SIMPLE!.......2007-07-10
There was a time when it didn't take much to get a kid excited! I remember scanning through my TV guide and all of a sudden BLAM! There is was....GARGOYOLES! 8PM Friday Night! I watched this movie everytime it came on television. I'm glad I bought this movie on DVD a while back when it was cheap. I have seen if fetch a pretty hefty sum these days. The movie brings back memories for those who watched it when they were growing up, but the film, in truth is not all that great! It isn't all that bad either. The memories are much better than the film, that's for sure. If you can find it cheap by all means pick it up, just don't drop a lot of scrilla-bops on this fondly remembered TV movie. Unless you've got $$$ to burn.
tonight on the late show "Gargoyles" right after this message.......2007-04-19
Ah, this one is one of the better T.V. horror movies of the 70's and one more part of my attempt to find and watch all the old movies that I loved as a child. The chills that this one gave me then still creep back to me now.
Cornel Wilde and Jennifer Salt are father and daughter investigating some strange bones found by an old man in Arizona. They turn out to be bones of the title creature and it's family wants them back, NOW!
this one reeks with atmosphere and a sense of foreboding that it pulls you past any holes in the script and the Make-up by Stan Winston is great. this is one to watch if you Dare,in the dark. After all, its only a movie, right?
Great stuff from the past.......2007-03-20
Sure its really just a 3 star movie, but because it was made a long time
ago, it always made a impact on whoever saw it, had great makeup for those days, and the movie is surprisingly creepy it gets 4 stars.
Good for a keeper.
AT THE TIME, This was a top-of-the-line production........2007-03-15
And the plot wasn't bad either.
After hundreds of years of incubation,
gargoyle eggs begin hatching.
Despite everybody's best efforts,
inter-species conflict ensues.
Naturally, the burden of contact falls upon the locals.
Glad I wasn't there.

Demons.......2006-07-07
This film has remained in the recesses of My evocative contemplation since I first saw it some dark and dreary night upon a horror movie showcase, and has remained an occasional viewing pleasure.
Dr. Mercer Boley, an Anthropologist studying Demonology and cryptozoology decides to vacation in the desert of the American Southwest, taking his daughter Diana with him and come upon "Uncle Willie's Desert Museum" set up for tourists, which includes a rattle snake, bull skull, various baubles and indian bric-a-brac, but the real interest is back in the shed, wherein he preserves a supposed gargoyle skeleton excavated by his own hand. Suddenly, the entire shed is shaken apart accompanied by bestial cries, and "Uncle Willie" {played by Woody Chambliss, whom you will recognize as the dottering 'John' from 'The Devil's Rain'} is crushed in the fallout. The shed bursts into flames, as Boley and Diana barely escape the destruction, whereupon travelling to the next destination later that evening, are beset upon by a reptilian creature from out of the darkness. Bit by bit, these demonic creatures reveal themselves in an attempt to retrieve the desecrated remains of their fallen brethren, until finally kidnapping Diana and taking her back to their caverns, where she gains favor and receives the curious advances of the King Gargoyle.
The splendid Grayson Hall {'Dr. Julia Hoffman' from Dark Shadows} plays a 'Mrs. Parks' - motel manager and alcoholic spinster who is too soon literally strung up on a telephone pole by the gargoyles as a warning and decleration of war. Subtle shades of Vlad Tepes there.
With the sloppy aid of some dirt bike riders, the local yokel 'police' attempt to battle these subterranian dwellers, who desire to take over the world of man and make it their own. In the past, they seemingly attempted to co-exist, but humans became too antagonistic and killed off their kind at every opportunity, based on fear and ignorance. So now, with the rebirth of The Gargoyle King, they have remained within labyrinthine dwellings until the time when they were plentiful in number, to rise and conquor. Unfortunately, many precious eggs were immolated during the battle.
The costumes are impressive, with each character maintaining his or her own seperate identity, from scaled to hairy variations, from beaked to reptilian. I found the main Gargoyle to be quite remarkable, as a veritable Satan archetype even comparable to Legend's 'Lord Darkness'. They also each have personalities and voices, modes of expression and sentiment, which was a delightful turn from the usual sole grunting and hissing, which is only just a part of themselves. One of the female gargoyles actually becomes jealous at the attention Diana is receiving from the King Gargoyle, so she leads Dr. Boley directly to their location.
I would have liked to have seen more from these characters, and would look forward to any reproductions. This film does suprisingly well on such a condensed budget, mostly utilizing the naturally eerie enviroronment and sense of suspense during several well done lambent scenes wherein they emerge from the shadows, with long claws, gleaming fangs, piercing eyes, thrusting horns, and fanged rictus. This film could have just as easily been named "Demons".

Not exceptionally bad.......2006-11-27
This isn't a particularly bad movie. It just isn't goord, either. An earthquake releases a gargoyle that is active at day and night on Romania. Odd, I thought gargoyles turned to stone during the day. We're also shown pictures of dragons, and the characters tell us their gargoyles. Michael Pare plays the FBI agent who dosn't actually believe there's a gargoyle flying around attacking people until the last fifteen minutes, and when the hero dosn't even think the villian exsist until the climax, well, that's kind of stupid.
The CGI for the gargoyle isn't the worst ever put on film, and it does get satisfactory screen time. None of the kills are creative, and we only actaully see one or two. Usually its just the CG gargoyle grabbing someone and flying off with them. The acting and diolauge is cheesey and lackluster, the direction bland. So what's the saving grace?
This movie is rather entertaining and delivers a few so-bad-its-good moments, such the gargoyle chasing a car down a country highway. Sure, its stupid and looks fake, but at least the filmakers tried to put something fun in this slightly boring flick.
I'd recommend it to monster movie fanatics, but no one else.

Hey, its not that bad... at least we do see the monster in details and not just quick edits...there is a story and the landscape is real and not just a blue screen.
The only thing that bugged me about this movie is the ringing of
the cell phones....argh just too many...
But i do recommend this movie for anyone who like monster movies
GAR GOILS AND BAT BOIZ.......2005-06-16
Michael Pare is one of those B movie actors who keep getting roles in direct to DVD movies like this one. He joins guys like Casper van Dien, Michael Dudikoff, etc. in providing little acting credibility. Fortunately, the special effects are above average for a movie of this ilk, so GARGOYLE becomes an entertaining horror flick. Unlike many films of this nature, we even see the gargoyle in daylight, a brave move in this genre. The gargoyle is pretty impressive, though and there's significant bloodletting to please hardcore fans. Martial arts hero Tim Abell turns up as Lex the Slayer, who goes bonkers after a midnight gargoyle attack, and his performance is appropriately campy. Surprisingly good if you don't have too high expectations.
Gargoyle or Dragon?.......2005-03-05
This is an interesting film but it looks like somewhere along the way the art was changed.
In Romania, a kidnapper disappears from a rooftop and the CIA gets involved in events of eerie proportions. A gargoyle has gotten loose and is terrorizing the land. Meanwhile the local church and the Vatican seem to be involved in what is going on. Basically, after 500 years, gargoyles are ready to surface again and only the Church seems to be able to defeat them.
During the movie, we see paintings of dragons and the dialog states that the creature looks just like the paintings. There is even talk of dragons and St. George specifically. This has led me to the belief that this was originally intended to be a dragon film but that the CGI was changed to make it a gargoyle. The inclusion of Castle Dracula was unnecessary (and what is the Church doing maintaining a presence there?).
Ultimately we get a reasonable monster movie where conventional weapons are useless. There is the threat of gargoyles returning in large numbers to add real dread to the plot. We have clashing branches withing the Church. We have historic art pointing the way. All told it was not as bad as some reviewers have mentioned but makes for a good popcorn movie.

Beware of Gargoyles!!!.......2005-01-30
The premise is thus: Cornel Wilde who's main interest is with beasties and other things is writing a book. While meeting up with his daughter (Jennifer Salt), they discover a run-down shack in the middle of nowhere with an old man who "claims" he has the best attraction ever...a gargoyle skeleton which the old man "claims" is real.
After much skepticsm, Cornel Wilde agrees to view the old man's find, only to be interrupted by an apparant gargoyle attack.
Cornel Wilde flees with the skeletal remains, only to be chased and hunted by the gargoyles who's own intent is to recover the skeletal remains of their ex-breathren while the leader of the Gargoyles by the name of "Goliath" becomes infatuated by Jennifer Salt and kidnaps her.
Then, it is a battle for the daughter and supremecy. Is it the humans, or the gargoyles who will be the winner?
The Plus: Great looking Gargoyle Suit (with actual beating wings!) for the leader.
: The acting of the Gargoyles, Cornel Wilde, and Jennifer Salt.
The Minus: It's a pity that the budget was so bad for the rest of the cast of the gargoyles. They walked around wearing what looked like diver suits and crappy masks.
:The human acting of the "troublemakers". Their acting skills was really poor.
Otherwise, a good horror movie!

What in the world is this?! I'm hoping that it's the second season of Gargoyles, however there's not really any information as to what this is.
