5 out of 5 stars My son is fascinated by this..........2006-05-28

My son just turned two. We've had this show for 6 months and he is still fascinated by it. He loves the puppies and the kittens segments. He is also working on learning the names of all the other creatures.
This is a wonderful gift for a young toddler!

4 out of 5 stars Great Concept.......2006-02-20

I found BABY ANIMALS quite by accident while watching TV the other night. I didn't know quite what to expect, but I was amazed at how satisfying it was to see short films (three to five minutes) of "baby" animals (some films are of adult animals) put with some great classical pieces. I do not own the dvd, and I'm going on memory, but some of the films were about puppies, kittens, polar bears, penguins, farm animals, animals from Africa, etc.

I thought the song choices were great for the most part. Some pieces really went well with their subjects.

While I overall enjoyed the concept of BABY ANIMALS, I found some of the films to be a bit repetitive. For example, a film clip, I believe entitled "funny and silly" or something to that effect shows small clips from the other film segments while playing a piece of classical music that had been used previously in the show. Also, there were two film segments on barn (or farm) animals yet in all that time spent at the farm neither showed pigs or cows. Also, after spending time individually on puppies and kittens, there is an additional film "5 dogs and 1 cat" focusing on adult animals in a backyard/park setting. Some of the dogs, as my mother said, must have been older or just plain lazy because they didn't do much.

I would love to see more shows (an ongoing series) using this concept. I would love to see greater variety of animals. For example, I would have absolutely LOVED to see elephants and giraffes in the film about African animals. And a few more monkeys would have been nice too in that segment. In fact, I think elephants should have their own film segment! And I wish that the polar bears shown would have been younger and cuter instead of fully grown and on the lazy side.

Still, I enjoyed most of the clips. My favorite clip, by far, was the one on kittens.

I remember a year ago, I was up really late flipping through the channels. It was the usually late-night garbage. Infomercials for godknowswhat, Spanish sitcomes, B-Movies...

What jewel was I to stumble upon other than Baby Animals and Their Fuzzy Friends? At first I was astounded by the simplicity of it all. Young puppies stumbling around to classical music in the background, monkeys sitting around looking at each other. Soon I couldn't turn away, the shear sincerity of it had seized me and wasn't letting go. I sat there in a coma, fixated on the frolicking puppies. A tear came to my eye.
