5 out of 5 stars Review THIS RELEASE, please!.......2007-09-18

I was lucky enough to see a pre-release of this DVD. You will not be disappointed if you consider it ON ITS OWN MERITS. It's a different experience, and strong enough to stand on its own. I won't spoil it for you.

I'd like to remind all the complainers and boycott-hollering yahoos that the theatrical Grindhouse release was seen by about 147 people domestically, and was a financial disaster.
Exactly what would the producers' motivation be to duplicate that for the DVD?
I don't fault them in the slightest for approaching from another angle.
I hope the separate releases sell well enough to justify the release of the double-bill and trailers.
I'll buy that as well.

3 out of 5 stars Wait for the double-feature--just like Masters of Horror.......2007-09-17

Well, it looks like I will be waiting again for the ACTUAL realease of this "double-feature". The alleged reason these two films were released were to bring back the "grindhouse" feel and that includes not only a second feature, but the hilarious trailers. Release like this it's just another movie (and this one is not as good imho).

It took a year, but I waited for the box set of Masters of Horror and wound up paying much less that those who had to have it right away. While I would wholeheartedly recommend this with its other feature I cannot say I would buy it on its own.

4 out of 5 stars Full featured release in 2008? Maybe........2007-09-17

According to VideoETA, "Grindhouse" has a projected release date of June 2008. What exactly this will include isn't mentioned but it adds to the theory that another release isn't far behind.

[...]

I'm a bit peeved that the initial DVD release is two titles and will wait to see what next summer brings. Overall I thought the films were good for their intent, and I even rented some Pam Grier films afterwards for a bit of nostalgia.

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun.......2007-09-17

Death Proof is Quentin Tarantino's homage to the B movie genre form the late 60s, 70s and early 80s. Keep this in mind when you watch this film. Like the original low budget flicks, this film has very bad picture quality and sound, terrible editing, silly dialogue, revealing mistakes and bad acting. Of course, these characteristics were all accidental or due to a lack of talent in the original movies, whereas Tarantino has deliberately added these "mistakes" in order to recreate the feel of the old films. This might be a bit confusing or even annoying during the first half hour or so, because, unlike 30 years ago, this movie is not shown in a Grindhouse but a modern theater and you can't help but notice that the bad editing is deliberate and therefor misses the charm of the old B movies. Also, the fact that the film is set in 2007 but shot in a way that would be below standard even 30 years ago, slightly removes the charm it would have had, had it been set in the 70s. However, this changes about 30 min into the movie when cell phones, MP3 players and Japanese automobiles are replaced by muscle cars, references to cult classics and John Hughes movies, old school car chases, stunts and your typical Quentin Tarantino dialogues and soundtrack. The uncut European version could have done without some of the more boring conversations at the beginning of the film, though, but Kurt Russell more than makes up for this when he uses his old charm to talk Vanessa Ferlito into a lap dance and by the end of the film real life stunt woman Zoe Bell and Tracie Thoms will have you roaring with laughter as they seek to get even with Stuntman Mike. Although Death proof might not be quite as impressive as House of 1000 Corpses or The Devil's Rejects, it definitely is just as much fun.

3 out of 5 stars Death Proof....but where's Planet Terror too!.......2007-09-17

I'm a fan of Tarantino and Rodriguez, but what I have to agree with most of the mediocre reviews about this is what is up with releasing this seperately from the other film, that makes absolutely no sense, or does it? Maybe to rake in the money the studio didn't get on it's theatrical release? Death Proof has a film is brilliantly shot with style, but as some of the reviews had eluded to earlier gets bogged down in boring chick chit-chat about nothing. I literally found myself zoning off and thinking of other things during those scenes. I don't mind a lot of dialogue if you have something to say. These girls didn't, but the movie is saved by the ominous scenes with actor, Kurt Russell. Still a movie worth seeing, but maybe wait until it drops in price or is released with the other grindhouse film, "Planet Terror".

4 out of 5 stars Ouch! That's Hot!.......2007-09-15

No, this film isn't about Chlamydia, it's a long forgotten(but not by horror fans) slasher flick. The "burning" is actually a reference to a prank gone wrong(of course) that burns a sadistic camp caretaker to a crisp and turns him into a killing machine hell bent on revenge. He's not too picky on who he slaughters as long as it's campers. Basically what we got here is a plot right on par with Friday the 13th. While the plot won't be mistaken for original and the acting may not be oscar worthy, this little slasher flick is alot of fun and actually one of the better films in the genre. As a previous reviewer stated, alot of the kills in this film are in the daytime, which is a bit different. The first few minutes of the film actually follow the character of "Cropsy" as he's discharged from the hospital and tries to get it on with a hooker(not much better looking than him I might add), only to disgust her with his appearance, forcing him to kill her. Realizing he's never gonna have a normal life(or get laid) again, he then decides he may as well get revenge and takes to the camp to continue with his bloodlust. This intro was kinda different and cool as well. Another bonus is that this film wasn't afraid to up the ante in the gore department. It's not Dead Alive, but a little bloodier than you may expect. Cropsy's method of dispatching campers are a pair of garden shears. Not exactly the weapon I would use-kinda unreliable-but Cropsy makes it work. The teenagers are a bit more likeable than most you find in these films. Jason Alexander has hair! Holly Hunter is credited with a small role, but don't get too excited coz she has very little screen time and practically no lines other than some whimpering and crying. This dvd pretty much only gives us a short interview with Tom Savini as a bonus feature, but it's always a pleasure to listen to Savini talk about movies he's done. But either way we can just at least be thankful that this forgotten gem finally made it's way onto dvd.

5 out of 5 stars A "BURNING" Sensation..........2007-09-15

Yay, hooray. "THE BURNING" FINALLY comes to DVD. After years of making the rounds on almost everyone's list of great, fondly-remembered 80s slasher flix, you can actually WATCH it rather than just hear peoples' warm fuzzy memories of it.

With the print restored to a magnificent like-new quality, and previously censored/edited bits apparently tossed seamlessly back into the mix, "THE BURNING" DVD was worth the wait. Caretaker 'Cropsy' is the unfortunate victim of the titular fire trauma thanks to a summer camp practical joke gone awry, and he returns (5 years and several failed skin grafts later) to wreak vengeance on the new and old inhabitants of the camp. The standard coed nudity, killer's-p.o.v. shots, and fake scares ensue. Believable performances and better-than-average characterization make this feature stand out slightly over it's more cookie-cutter brethren, and the cast is rounded out by a surprisingly likable Jason Alexander as the comedy relief/nice guy/prankster of the lot. "THE BURNING" also features a pretty nifty, grandiose synth score by Rick Wakeman.

...however, 'character' and music cues only go so far in a flick like this, and where they leave off, the gore picks up. Some nasty, lingering shots of shear-punctured flesh highlight the proceedings here. If I have a complaint in this department, it's that it would've maybe been a teensy bit more interesting if Cropsy had switched up his slasher game a bit and dispatched the campers with a wider variety of methods, since he mostly sticks with his trusty shears throughout, and that gimmick gets kinda boring rather quickly. Go with what ya know, I s'pose...

But by the time the finale rolled around and Cropsy reared his pan-seared visage for one last icky, violent, blowtorch-wielding showdown with our survivors, I forgot any sort of criticism for this refugee from the Golden Era of slashers and just enjoyed "THE BURNING". As far as stalk-n-slash fare goes, well, I'm of the opinion that they just don't make 'em like they used to, and thusly I welcome the return of well-regarded classics such as this, especially since it's essentially new to me, as I personally missed it the first time around. The disc is completed with a trailer and commentary track and 'Blood n' Fire Memories', a making of/behind the scenes interview bit.

Required viewing for serious collectors & slasher buffs, and a pretty safe bet for more casual horror fans, as well.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best slashers I've ever seen.......2007-09-13

Finally this got a DVD release. It's definetally one of the better slasher flicks coming damn well close to Halloween, F13, and NOES. The characters are well developed, the kills are of the hook with tons of blood, and Cropsy scares the crap out of me. If your a slasher or horror movie fan you should deffinetally buy this!

4 out of 5 stars The best slasher you've never seen.......2007-09-13

Originally released in 1981, The Burning may seem like Friday the 13th redux (the original Friday only came out a year before this did), but make no mistake that this slasher is better than any installment of that long running and tired series. The Burning revolves around a camp terrorized by the deranged Cropsy (Lou David), who five years prior was the victim of a prank gone horribly awry, which has left him horribly burned to the point where no skin grafts of any kind could take. Naturally, a camp full of horny teenagers should sate his homicidal desires. What really makes The Burning memorable are the inventive makeup and gore effects of legendary FX master Tom Savini (coming hot of the success of Dawn of the Dead and Friday the 13th), as well as the super early appearances from future Oscar winner Holly Hunter, as well as funnyman Jason Alexander and Fisher Stevens. It's also worth noting that the film was written and produced by Harvey and Bob Weinstein; before their upstart company Miramax went to runaway success. The DVD doesn't have a plethora of extras, but it does have a commentary track from director Tony Maylam as well as a featurette with Tom Savini who recollects on his work and experiences making the film. All in all, slasher movies rarely get any better than this, and if you've never seen The Burning, you should definitely check it out.

4 out of 5 stars Nothing new... but very well done with some actual scares to go along with the gore.......2007-09-11

And who really buys a slasher film for anything new anyways? This is your usual prank-gone-horribly-wrong-that-turns-a-mortal-into-a-bloodthirsty-and-unstoppable-killing-machine story but like I said before... how wonderfully done it is! The Burning gives us what would have been a great franchise killer who does the unthinkable (even for slasher standards) and butchers youger kids as well as the usual deserving teenagers with his weapon of choice... big hedge sheers! Some fantastic set pieces (including the often talked about raft scene) and genuine tension and scares help make this one of the best slashers I've seen (and I've seen lots). Tom Savini is in charge of the gore effects so you know that they are special, especially in all their uncut glory here. This is a MUST BUY for fans of 80's sleaze or slasher films but I'd even recommend it to casual fans of horror interested in some good exploitative scares. MGM has given horror fans allot to cheer about with this release as well as dropping From Beyond and Scarecrows on the same day... run like your being chased by a burned up freak with a pair of bloody hedge trimmers and pick up all 3 movies today (or just buy them here)!

"You can't kill the boogeyman," explains John Carpenter in Halloween, and to prove it he brings Michael Myers back in this handsome but grisly sequel. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode but spends most of her time cowering in a hospital gown, and Donald Pleasence runs around like a maniac as the panicky doctor desperate to hunt down Myers before he kills again. Carpenter writes and produces with partner Debra Hill, and together they replace the mystery and uncertainty of the original with an exponentially bigger body count and some strange tales about the Druids and pagan ceremonies, and the now-familiar family ties between Michael and Laurie. First-time director Rick Rosenthal (Bad Boys) paces the film at a brisk jog and directs it with a clean, crisp style, taking the murders out of the dark to display them in all their nasty detail. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars 2000 years later, we've come no further.......2007-08-31

In putting together this sequel, the powers-that-be decided to combine several of the strongest elements from the original film(Michael Myers, Dr. Loomis, the strong Halloween atmosphere)with the standard pace of an early 80's slasher film(people getting killed every 5-10 minutes.) For me, this is the ideal combination. There has not been a slasher movie since that I have liked as well.
Dr. Loomis is my favorite horror hero, and Michael Myers my favorite horror villain. They both enjoy some of their finest moments in this installment. I find this version of Myers creepier than the later incarnations, where he has suddenly grown into something resembling an nfl lineman. There is something in the deliberate movements, and the angular figure, that is decidedly inhuman. And Dr. Loomis elevates all of this to a far higher level than it could ever have achieved otherwise. His strength, courage, and iron will make him a hero. So do his moral concerns about seeing innocent people butchered. But there is also something in his personality that makes him the ideal adversary for the Bogeyman.Of course, as a psychiatrist, he feels professional responsibility. But it goes well beyond that. There is some part of his imagination that is obsessed with Myers, and some part of his humanity that is appalled by him. These feelings, taken in concert with his naturally heroic nature, make him the perfect combatant for Myers.
This movie has the ideal pace. The story is divided between Myers stalking people at the hospital, and Dr. Loomis working with the local police to track him down. Slowly, methodically, Michael Myers begins to remove the employees of the hospital, as he makes his way towards Laurie Strode. As always, he operates like a hunter, or sportsman. Several of his victims are given opportunities to save themselves, as they were in the first film. This is what sets Myers apart from typical killers-he is rather like an artist of the macabre. If it's too easy, he almost seems to regard it as beneath him. Of all the killings, my favorite is the nurse in the room with the aquarium. That whole scene is beautifully shot and lit, with the aquarium casting all sorts of reflections across the darkened room, and the cadaverous face of Myers gradually coming into view over the doomed girl's shoulder. The murder of the security guard is effective, as well.
The atmosphere is perfect. The long, winding hallways are ideal for a movie of this sort. There are just so many places where Michael Myers could be. The effect is only intensified as the night wears on and the primary lights are extinguished. The music is great, too. It incorporates the basic Halloween theme, but it has been altered enough to set it apart from any of the other films. It's not really a tangible thing: all of the elements just work for me.The doomed people, congregated in the dark hospital. The Bogeyman, always lurking in the shadows.Dr. Loomis, making his way ever closer to the scene of the slaughter. This is a film I never get tired of watching.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sequel.......2007-08-30

This movie is on par with the original. It takes off where the first one left off. Donald Pleasence is a excellent actor and Jamie Lee Curtis is as well, as the girl in distress. The reason why I like the Halloween series is that there is a story behind the movies. It also feels like an epsiode of the Twilight Zone. I feel trapped with Laurie in the movie and trying to get away from Myers. Its the best horror sequel that has ever been made.

3 out of 5 stars Bloodier, Sillier Sequel; Not a Bad Follow-up.......2007-08-27

"Is this some kind of joke? I've been trick-or-treated to death tonight."

"You don't know what death is!"

And then, the music...

The sequel to (at the time) the scariest and most successful independent film ever made, HALLOWEEN II is, probably, a better-looking film than the original. After all, there was a major studio behind this one--along with a new director and a disco-fied version of the original soundtrack that, surely, sounded SO COOOOL when the film was originally released. And the good news is that the movie's not half bad. Nowhere nearly as powerful as the original, it goes without saying, but entertaining enough.

Somewhere between the release of the original and the filming of this sequel, two important things happened. First, FRIDAY the 13th was released, ushering in a new era of mandatory gore for horror films. Second, Carpenter and Hill (both producing) realized that they had a lot of night left over from the end of HALLOWEEN. Consequently, new director Rick Rosenthal came in and made the sequel the second half of the same night as the first, and Michael traded in his very traditional kitchen knife for a hammer, scalpel, syringe, and .... steambath? Yikes!

The result is suspenseful, but predictable, horror fare with a lot of silliness. I liked it. Now, on to some trivia:

The ending to the first HALLOWEEN was actually re-shot nearly frame for frame for the beginning of this one (so that the film stock would match, I'm sure), but purists will notice a couple glaring differences: 1) Loomis fires seven shots from his six-shooter in this version, and 2) when the good doctor comes outside, he acts like he only realizes then--as opposed to the balcony shot in part I--that Michael has gone. Quibbles, yes, but I'm a fan.

(This review has been posted by Marcus Damanda, author of the vampire novel "Teeth: A Horror Fantasy.")

3 out of 5 stars What doesn't kill you makes you stronger........2007-08-12

If this is true Michael Myers should enter into a world's strongest man competition.

I loved the original Halloween, I think it is one of the greatest horror movies there is and a great movie period. I liked the mystery of Michael Myers in the original and I bought into everything, any plot holes were ignored because I was so into the movie. For me horror is scary when it is realistic or I can relate in someway or the movie does such a good job I buy into what I am seeing. In this sequel i found myself annoyed by things or pointing out things that couldn't happen the movie never really got me.

I'd like to also point out I am not anti remake or sequel. John Carpenter himself has done one of the great horror remakes in The Thing [HD DVD] starring Kurt Russell. I didn't hate this nor did I love it. I think it is essential for horror fans in filling in the connection between Michael and Laurie. If this title had eluded you and you had seen the original and all other sequels you'd still know the connection but would be confused. I also do not believe this was made just for money and think John Carpenter was giving the horror fans what they wanted which was more Michael Myers and I think he makes a good effort trying to feed that hunger picking up literally from the original.

I always like to watch a movie fresh before reviewing and I did that with Halloween 2, however going by memory I would confidently say this is the strongest sequel of the bunch, and is worth a viewing.

I would give the dvd features but on the Goodtimes home video version of Halloween 2 there are none at all. The audio is only done in 3 channel Dolby digital and I have seen much better transfers.

**Interesting facts from the Internet Movie Database**
- This is the only Halloween film to show the morning after the 31st, every other movie ends on Halloween night.

- The film that the security guard and the Elrods are watching is Night of the Living Dead. (Which actually gets interrupted with reports on Michael Myers, maybe someone is trying to say something here.)

- The 17-year-old who was hit by the police car and burnt alive, at first believed to be Michael Myers, was supposed to be Ben Tramer, the boy Laurie confesses to have a crush in in the original Halloween. (Talk about having a bad nite)

- Believing Rick Rosenthal's version of the film to be too tame, John Carpenter shot a few gory scenes that were added into the film despite Rosenthal's objections.

Thanks for reading, share any comments.

Halloween is one of the great modern horror films, but as a franchise its track record has been spotty at best, painfully bad at worst. Halloween H2O: Twenty Years Later, directed by horror vet Steve Miner (Friday the 13th parts 2 and 3, House), won't displace John Carpenter's original but it might help you forget the films in between. Miner certainly has: the film begins as if sequels 3 through 6 never happened. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis, reprising her role for the first time in almost two decades) faked her death and is now a single mom and headmistress of an exclusive California private school. She's also a secret alcoholic who lives in fear of her homicidal brother-bogeyman Michael Myers. Guess who decides to show up for a family reunion? The film begins with classic horror-movie exposition (the deserted college campus, Michael's escape, Laurie's waking nightmares) accomplished with some humor and style, but it's all setup for the second half, a driving roller coaster of stalk-and-slash thrills. There's little of the self-conscious genre referencing of Scream and at times the film is a little far-fetched--it is a slasher movie about a knife-wielding homicidal maniac who won't stay dead, after all--but Curtis transforms Laurie from a shrieking victim into an empowered, determined horror-movie heroine who's learned a thing or two from the previous films. Adam Arkin, Josh Hartnett, and TV cutie Michelle Williams (Dawson's Creek) costar, and the script received uncredited polish from Scream writer Kevin Williamson; Curtis's mom, Janet Leigh, pops up in a cameo. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars Short and sweet.......2007-09-06

The showdown between Laurie and Myers makes the film. I watched it yesterday and I still get chills from how Michael stalks his victims. His face is ghost white and you can see no expression. The movie does seem rather short but at least they didnt film it with useless information. The only problem is this movie is filmed with flavor of the month celebs (meaning they were hot at this time) including LL Cool J, Joseph Gordon Levitt (in a really small part), Adam Arkin, and Michelle Williams. People can point out Josh Hartnett as well but he did make that amazing movie called Lucky Number Slevien. Pick up this movie if you loved the orignal movie, this movie wont disappoint. If you dont like it, you wasted 86 minutes of your life.

4 out of 5 stars JAMIE LEE CURTIS AND MICHAEL MYERS A GREAT PAIR!!.......2007-09-02

why is it that these two go so great together. jamie was made for this, and the "shape" michael is super. this movie was special. they reunite after so long, and this one's up there with halloween the original. it's that good. mike breaks out, and is coming to get her, she feels it, and her son and his friends the first he comes after. then they meet face to face. i love that part, great acting. then he's after her. she gets tired of running and fights back. and in a certain scene she's the hunter not the hunted, good twist for a minute, but as always michael is the boogyman can't beat him. the chase is on. then she thinks she's won, but not by a long shot. it must go on again... super movie, loved it.

1 out of 5 stars Worst Sequel Ever!!!!.......2007-08-30

Bad Plot. A Brand new (Sqeaky clean) Michael Mask. C-List Actors. If There Were a 0 Rating, That's what it would of got. Worst Halloween in the Series, Besides part 3. Then again, part 3 Wasn't about Michael. The Decapitation scene was the Crappiest death ever. Where was the blood? Dimension didn't give this movie a budget at all. If you read this, Do Not Buy this Movie!!!

Terrible Sequel.

4 out of 5 stars AT LAST A SEQUEL WORTH WATCHING!.......2007-06-04

This entry into the halloween series is probably about as good as it is gonna get! After two really really bad installments(parts 5 and 6) we get a pretty darn good sequel "Halloween H20". The best thing about the movie is that Jamie Lee Curtis is back and it makes all the difference. I still don't understand why they keep changing Michael's mask? It looked great in the first movie...why fix what ain't broke? This movie is really a 3 and 1/2 star movie, but they don't have that option. The DVD transfer is good, but I would like to see a 16X9 upgrade someday.

4 out of 5 stars Jamie Lee Curtis returns to the film that made her a star.......2007-05-20

In HALLOWEEN H20, Jamie Lee Curtis returns to the film franchise which made her a star. This is probably the best entry since "Halloween II", in terms of performances and the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis is back as terrorised Laurie Strode. To properly enjoy this film, you have to disregard the 4th, 5th, and 6th films which featured Laurie's daughter, Jamie Lloyd. There is no daughter here, instead we have Laurie's son John (played by Josh Hartnett).

The film picks up 20 years to the day of the original Haddonfield slayings. With a new name and persona, Laurie Strode is the headmistress of a private school in Southern California, yet still living with the daily terror of her past literally coming back to haunt her. Sadistic, unstoppable Michael Myers has tracked down her records and decides a little family reunion is needed, but this time, Laurie vows to ensure it will be the final showdown...

Jamie Lee Curtis perfectly slips back into the role of Laurie, and the rest of the cast is equally fine, including Jamie's legendary mother (Janet Leigh, "Psycho") in a fun cameo as the school receptionist, Josh Hartnett as her son, and Adam Arkin as her boyfriend. There are some brilliant set-ups and action scenes, and the tension is taut.

HALLOWEEN H20 originally set out to close the chapter on Laurie and Michael, but the franchise has continued with "Halloween: Resurrection", again with Jamie Lee Curtis.

Starting around Halloween 4, that masked nut Michael Myers stopped chasing his sister (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the first and second films, as well as Halloween H20) and went after his niece. Now he's chasing her around again in part 5, but it's a lot of other people who die in the process. Donald Pleasence continues his mad-doctor bit from the earlier movies, Danielle Harris is the unfortunate relation, and Donald L. Shanks plays the monster. The film is an improvement on parts 2 and 4 (part 3 having nothing to do with Michael Myers), but it still amounts to routine slaughter with none of John Carpenter's stylistic brilliance from the original movie. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars A movie I like a lot more than I should.......2007-09-16

This review is a little long, so please bare with me.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is a movie that has the fans split in the middle. A lot of people see this as the downfall of the series, while others praise it as the last great Halloween movie.

I have to admit Halloween 5 is a movie I like a lot more than I should and I sometimes think I like the movie for more what it could have been instead of what it is. The one thing I will say is Halloween 5 is probably the most flawed of the series.

The script written by Michael Jacobs, Dominique Othenin-Girard & Shem Bitterman was rather weak and filled with numerous clichés; John Carpenter & Debra Hill they aren't.

While not the worst script ever written, Halloween 5 has a lot of great ideas that never quite seem to work as well as they should. Bottom line is Halloween 5 feels more like a first draft rather than final shooting script.

They had some excellent ideas that if just re-worked a bit would have made Halloween 5 a very strong and solid movie despite being yet another sequel to long running franchises that dominated the 80s.

I love when Loomis says, "I prayed that he would burn in hell. But in my heart, I knew that hell would not have him." That does show some decent writing right there, though it is very much Carpenter/Hill.

The first half of the movie Jamie is a mute and she also has a psychic link with Michael Myers. While that may have turned off some fans I think it was actually a solid idea.

Jamie is helpless and afraid, but the problem is when all is said and done the psychic link between the two never really seems to go anywhere. At the end of the day it didn't advance the plot.

It seems the makers had some good ideas, but abandoned them along the way. Halloween 5 feels more like an early draft rather than final. Halloween 5 had some interesting ideas, but the execution wasn't really working well.

Some problems with the movie are just simple little things. The opening scene was kind of idiotic, which apparently was re-shot with somebody else and not done by Dominique Othenin-Girard; why would the old hermit just keep Michael is his house for a whole year? It was obvious the guy was hurt and the way the scene plays out the hermit doesn't seem to know who Michael Myers is. Its things that like are what bring down Halloween 5.

The hermit just lets Michael lay on the floor in a coma, logic would tell you to maybe go and get some help. The scene just really doesn't make any sense and bottom line is quite silly.

The characters unlike the past Halloween movies are more of your standard slasher movie characters. One can argue so was the original, but that was the original the one that helped kick these movies into high gear.

The characters lack the depth of some of the previous characters and seem to be there just to add to the body count. The one thing I did learn is the makers really must have liked Happy Days, since Mikey is obviously inspired by the Fonz.

Tina is a character like the movie that fans love or hate; personally I liked Tina a lot. Ok, sure at times she was a bit annoying, but at the same time I found her quite likeable as well.

The character of Sam had potential to be more than what she was, but she ends up being becoming the typical character in this type of movie, still she does the best she can and elevates the character just a bit.

The one thing the makers did get right was the Loomis character; the guy is pretty much at a breaking point. We always knew he was obsessed with stopping Michael and here it shows even more. All the years and violence finally caught up to him and he's pretty much willing to do anything to stop Michael.

Donald Pleasence is over the top at times, but that is exactly how the character is meant to be played. After the original Halloween, Loomis seemed to only be there since he was a fan favorite. Bottom line is he didn't really add much to the plot. But Halloween 5 actually does something with his character instead of standing around spitting out the same lines.

Donald Pleasence is one of my very favorite actors. He can play a role straight, but also over the top when it's meant to be played that way.

One of the biggest flaws is also the biggest asset for Halloween 5; The Myers house went from a normal sized house to a gothic like size mansion. Houses do not grow; I would have liked to have seen some kind of explanation on why the house is so big. Maybe someone was building there? May not be a great idea, but better than nothing.

As a director Dominique Othenin-Girard fairs a bit better, while he isn't John Carpenter by any means he is able to put together some fairly decent scenes, but again the script really brings down the movie. While Dominique Othenin-Girard isn't a very good filmmaker he does show some signs of life.

The pacing of Halloween 5 is very much mixed. There were too many scenes that take place is the daylight. While those scenes worked well in the original and were quite creepy they don't work quite as well here and some tension is lost due to that.

As I said the pacing was very mixed; despite a running time of 95-minutes there were too many scenes that were a bit pointless and slow the pace down rather than moving it forward.

The scene with Sammy and Tina, which seems to be outside the children's clinic where Jamie is, was just pointless. It didn't add anything to the movie and slowed down the pace. The introduction of Mikey could have been cut as well. In his next scene, which thankfully also happens to be his last would have served as a better intro and nothing plot wise would have been lost.

Another debate with fans is the two cops who offer up the comedy relief. I actually did like the characters, but they did break up the tension. A lot of their scenes could have been edited out or edited down and even if only a few seconds here and there it would have greatly helped Halloween 5.

That also brings me back to Tina, even though I did like her I will admit that at times she can be annoying in some spots. Editing would have helped there as well. Even if it was just one or two lines cut in some areas it would have taken away the more annoying scenes that Tina had.

The prank Tina, Sam and Spitz play on the cops really could have been taken out as well. At this point in the movie the false scare really wasn't needed and plus it was fairly obvious it was a prank being pulled so due to that there was no suspense on the scene, which just makes it pointless.

A lot of the scenes I brought up do greatly bring down the pacing; cutting those scenes wouldn't make Halloween 5 a classic of the genre, but I do think it would have made the movie a lot better.

What so many people hate about Halloween 5 is what I love the most, and that's the death of Rachel. Now let me explain that. It's not that I didn't like the character, because I did.

But killing off Rachel who was a major character in the previous so early on shows us anything is possible. Too many times the makers of these types of movies are afraid to take chances. They aren't willing to kill characters off because they are thinking about the next installment.

Rachel was a great character, but her death also helped Halloween 5 in other ways as well. It made Jamie more vulnerable. I understand why so many fans were upset, but I felt it helped the movie in some ways. Of course the downside is we lost a great character, but like I said I liked her death early on because it showed nobody is safe.

Director Dominique Othenin-Girard may not be a master of the horror genre, but he crafted several scenes that are the strongest of the series.

The barn scene with Sam and Spitz was one of the more solid scenes in the movie. The barn scene does go on a bit too long and does drag in some spots, but it was also one of the more suspenseful moments of the movie. It had great tension and very creepy feel. It could have been trimmed down just a bit though.

The car chase scene while a bit silly considering Michael really should have been able to run them down was a cool scene. It had some really great moments of suspense.

Tina's death I thought was actually one of the finer moments in the sequels. She sacrifices herself for Jamie and Jamie watches as Michael stabs Tina. The way Michael holds Tina for a moment afterwards as she is dying and telling Jamie to run. Then Michael simply lays her down and turns his attention to Jamie. I think that scene was excellent and quite creepy.

The final act to Halloween 5 was really strong as well. It was actually rather suspenseful and well-done. Again Dominique Othenin-Girard isn't what I would call a great director, but he does get some things right here and the chase scene in the final act he very much delivers. I still to this day feel the final act is a strong as any other final act in a horror movie.

This is where the house being so big greatly adds to the movie; Having Michael chasing Jamie around was very creepy and very well done.

Dominique Othenin-Girard and cinematographer Rob Draper do create a solid visual look. Halloween 5 isn't the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen, but it does look good. It has a European look much like the original Halloween did.

Some people say Halloween 4 captured the style of the original. I have to disagree. Go back and watch Halloween 5. The look of the movie was very much crafted like the original Halloween.

I think the mid-west look is captured but it's quite clear this movie was shot in the spring since the leaves are all green. But it's not a big deal since in the original we can see the fall look, but at times it's clear it's spring time.

I do feel the night scenes had more of a fall look; spring nights can sometimes be cool out much like fall nights. So that wasn't so much the makers as it is mother nature.

Another thing that has fans spilt is the man in black. Now you see this really was a double edged sword. Judging the man in black only in Halloween 5 and ignoring what he became it does add a great mystery to the movie. While, yes Halloween 5 is your typical stalk and slash movie the man in black gave it something a bit different.

We have no idea who this guy is; he just appears out of nowhere. That added some mystery to the movie. But the problem was I really don't think there were many directions to take the character. I believe it was bound to be a letdown for fans.

But judging it based only on Halloween 5 it was a solid mystery and the ending was a great cliffhanger and it was a shocking moment. The really funny thing though is how the man in black was able to take out the whole Haddonfield PD. Who was this guy really Jack Bauer?

So that does show you the writers had some decent ideas, but again the script feels more like an early draft rather then a final draft. Halloween 5 clearly needed some more work done. Had the script been polished up in some areas I don't think it would be one of the all time greats, but the final product would have worked more.

I'm not sure why there is so much hate for Halloween 5. In many ways it's your typical slasher movie that actually tries to be more than that. Halloween 5 has a solid plot, but gets lost due to the poor script. Halloween 5 has great music and a great villain and that helps elevate it over most slasher flicks released back in the 80s

Despite all the flaws in Halloween 5 it also has some really strong points as well. It won't rate as one of my all time favorites, but I think it's a fun watch and a movie I like a lot more than I should.

Don't go in expecting anything like the original. Just watch it as a slasher movie and it works; not a perfect movie, but when all is said and done it's a fun movie.

4 out of 5 stars DON'T KNOCK IT!.......2007-09-16

This sequel really wasn't that bad...All the reviews that I have been reading here about "Halloween 5" claims that it is the worst sequel to the "Halloween" franchise.... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worst was "Halloween 3". I am so sure that more people will agree...! The Rob Zombie remake of "Halloween" will someday be listed as one of the worst remakes in history!

3 out of 5 stars Worst Halloween entry.......2007-09-14

Halloween is the best movie franchise but this movie is weak. The characters seemed to be rushed in from other movies from the time like Friday the 13th. I was watching Halloween 25 Years Later and they even admited this movie was rushed too quickly. Anther problem was Michaels mask. TUCK IT IN! It looks like the actor inside the suit didnt want to wear a mask, so he put it on loosely as possible. A few cool death scenes but other then that, this movie is probably the worst of the series.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite films.......2007-08-28

This film is one of my absolute favorites from any genre. Like most sequels, it is simply a variation on the themes of the original. The Bogeyman stalks his victims, and Dr. Loomis stalks him, resulting in a 'triangular' hunt, of sorts. Of course, all of this is set against the backdrop of Halloween. What I find particularly appealing about this movie is that it fits comfortably within the confines of the series, yet still manages to be distinctive, as well. It is possessed of an aura that sets it apart from the other Halloween movies. However, it is still powerfully anchored to the essential elements of the original.
Perhaps my favorite dimension is the triangular hunt to which I have already alluded. For me, what sets Michael Myers and Dr. Loomis apart from typical villains and heroes is that neither of them derive their motivation from conventional human agendas.Myers, for example, is not driven to evil by any petty human frailty. He lives out what he is, and each action is its own reward. The same is true of Loomis. He knows, all too well, that, come what may, he has nothing to gain by stalking his patient. He has seen enough of Haddonfield to know that, no matter how much he may sacrifice, the best he can expect is to be misunderstood. He perseveres, knowing that he is risking his life for people who will never appreciate him, because this is who he is.Myers and Loomis share a bond that has been forged within the confines of the shadows. After all, the local police would suffice if all you wanted to do was to catch a shoplifter or routine hoodlum. But to combat the Bogeyman, a creature of the shadows, you need a hero who is equally at home in those solitary, dark places.
Halloween 5 makes use of the same devices that you find in the other films. The extensive cat-and-mouse scenarios, for example, with Michael Myers always just on the perimeter of the primary action. The part, early on, when he patiently stalks Rachel in her house, is effective. But my favorite sequence of this type happens later in the film, when the kids are in the old barn. This is perfectly lit, and perfectly paced, with Myers displaying all the patience of a master hunter as he silently watches his prospective victims. Once he does decide to act, the culmination is immediate and brutal. The barn sequence is one of my favorite scenes in any slasher movie.
The last half of Halloween 5 contains several of the greatest moments in the series. The car chase through the field, and the tragic death of Tina. Tina had her idiosynchrasies, but she did, ultimately, give her life for the little girl. This lends her death an emotional resonance that one does not ordinarily find in a slasher film. The final major segment, at the Myers' house, is incredible. The part where Jamie gets trapped in the laundry chute, with Michael Myers standing right beside it, is as suspenseful as anything dating back to the first film. The little girl frantically tries to scratch and claw her way back up the chute to safety-struggling with all her might to get a foothold, or some sort of traction-and, all the while, the hulking figure of the Bogeyman is only inches away, hacking furiously through the thin metal with his huge butcher knife. It is an inspired moment.
And, as always, Loomis rises to the occasion yet again. He overcomes the effects of a terrible knife wound to do battle with Myers once more.Considering his age, and the circumstances, and the fact that he takes the Bogeyman down with brute force this time-it may well be Dr. Loomis' finest hour.
There are other strong elements to be found here. The cinematography is beautiful and imaginative. There are lots of great shots where the murky darkness of the backdrops are offset perfectly by the bright crimson tones of the girls' costumes.Little Jamie's costume is used to even more vivid effect. It is possessed of a luster that makes her seem like a little sparkling amethyst cloaked in the darkness of night. The music is effective. There is a particularly nice touch at the point, about halfway through the film, where Loomis enters the Myers house. If you listen closely, you can hear gentle strains of the same music that was played when Loomis entered the Myers house in the original 'Halloween.' It adds a little nostalgic touch to the proceedings. On a more superficial note, I don't know when I've seen three such gorgeous women assembled in one movie. Rachel and Tina make a nice contrast, with Rachel being the ideal girl-next-door type, and Tina being somewhat more exotic looking.Which brings us to Sami. If I had to list the five best looking women I've ever seen, Sami would be on the list. She is a goddess.
There has been a lot of criticism directed at the more controversial aspects of this movie. The man in black, for example, or the two dumb cops. While I could certainly do without these characters(especially the cops) their presense is kept to a minimum. Out of an hour and forty minute movie, they are only onscreen for a couple of minutes. Some have been critical of the way that the Myers house has been transformed, or the way that Michael's mask looks. I simply look upon these things as this particular director's interpretation. At the end of the day, such inconsistencies have popped up throughout the series. They are no more severe in this edition than in any of the other Halloween films.
People often speak of having seen a movie 'hundreds' of times. Of course, I don't know how often they are exxagerating. For myself, there are only four movies that I have seen into the triple digits, and they all have 'Halloween' in the title(1,2,4,and 5.)These movies monopolize my imagination like nothing ever has. In this case, the special features are reasonably good, as well. I loved this movie from the first time I saw it, and I appreciate it more with the passage of time.

1 out of 5 stars THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE MORE ENTERTAINING THAN THE FILM..........2007-08-24

Ahhhh...Halloween. I can remember when the sheer mention of the movie's title would make me uneasy. The flickering (and quite sick) jack-o-lantern that stared back at me from the opening titles of the 1978 classic. The eerie music that almost drove me insane with fright as a child. The memories of Michal Myers slowly stalking his victims like a hungry animal. The way the storyline was genuine and kept its audience interested. Yes...I remember, but memories are all that is left of this once fine classic.

We have here the fifth "Halloween" installment. We have a herd of annoying teenagers that are just set up to die. A Michael Myers mask that doesn't even come close to the original (come to think of it, the mask seems to change with every sequel, man...they can`t even get that right). A snob of a director trying to duplicate John Carpenter's style (and failing miserably). An entire formula that has been xeroxed again and again. A script that should have been nominated for an Oscar (sarcasm). The entire film is just hilarious. In fact...I have had more fun sitting down and reading the negative reviews here on Amazon than actually watching the movie!

It seems that every year, right around Halloween, the USA channel shows this film as part of its festive, late night entertainment. This is what my friends & I have longed referred to as comedy night, we all sit through this turkey and laugh to our hearts content.

Seriously, this is one of the lamest attempts at horror in cinematic history so keep those negative reviews coming!

"You can't kill the bogeyman," the children insist to a terrorized Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in the original Halloween. How right they are. Laurie is gone, but guess who's back in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers? Acting as if the third entry never existed, this installment picks up 10 years after the original, with mad maniac Myers in a coma and moved to a new facility. But wouldn't you know it that as soon as a loose-lipped orderly lets slip that Myers has a surviving niece he springs back into action, leaving a bloody trail of corpses on the road to Haddonfield. Donald Pleasance returns as Dr. Loomis, scarred and crippled from his last encounter with Myers and seething with a fanatical zeal to stop the freak from repeating his previous rampage. Pleasance is the best thing about the film as an aging hero seemingly on the verge of madness who drags a bum leg in his manic rush to save little orphan Jamie (Danielle Harris), the 10-year-old waif terrorized by her homicidal uncle. Director Dwight Little has managed a generic if professional slasher picture, rife with improbabilities and dominated by a killer whose superhuman powers reach near-mystical dimensions, but he delivers the goods: shocks, stabs, and cold, cruel killings. --Sean Axmaker

Description

TEN YEARS AGO, HE CHANGED THE FACE OF HALLOWEEN. TONIGHT, HE'S BACK. A decade ago, he butchered 16 people trying to get to his sister. He was shot and incinerated, but still the entity that Dr. Sam Loomis (the legendary Donald Pleasence) calls "Evil on two legs" would not die. Tonight, Michael Myers has come home again…to kill! This time, Michael returns to Haddonfield for Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris of HALLOWEEN 5 and THE LAST BOY SCOUT) - the orphaned daughter of Laurie Strode - and her babysitter Rachel (Ellie Cornell of HALLOWEEN 5 and HOUSE OF THE DEAD). Can Loomis stop Michael before the unholy slaughter reaches his innocent young niece? Michael Pataki, Sasha Jenson and Kathleen Kinmont co-star in this smash sequel that marked the long-awaited return to the original storyline and remains infamous for its startling twist ending and graphic violence.

5 out of 5 stars Michael's Back!!!.......2007-08-01

I have to say, I love the Halloween series! This is my favorite sequal. It takes the story ten years into the future, and has plenty of chills, kills, and thrills to go around. Then ending is awesome! Yes it's a sequal, it's not better than the original, but it's still really good!

3 out of 5 stars It's Good.......2007-07-30

This is probably easily the best in the still going series of Halloween slasher films. Michael Meyers returns as the unstoppable killer in this well acted, predictable stalk and slash film. It's only rival for best sequel in this series is the sixth entry which explains Meyers' origins.

5 out of 5 stars It isn't a man.......2007-06-26

This is still the sequel to Halloween 2 over H20 for me. Dannielle Harris is just brilliant in this film at such a young age. Donald also delivers as usual. this brought the franchise to new heights and spawned two more good sequels.

4 out of 5 stars The Return of Michael Myers.......2007-06-18

This movie is a great sequal and is one of my favorites. Lot of suspenes in this one and has a great storyline. my recomenation is to buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Horror Film........2007-06-17

Halloween 4 is an excellent horror film and most certainly one of the best in the Halloween series. This film isnt quite like a lot of horror films around the time it was made and now because it doesnt really rely on blood and gore to scary the piss out of you. It mostly relys on the atmosphere of a dark night and the music. Thats what great horror films are all about is if they can scare you without even showing anything that is remotely scary. This film is an example of that concept. The script, the acting, and the score are incredible. Especially for a horror film. Ive noticed after seeing many horror films that this movie feels like Jaws or Gone With the Wind in terms of quality of every single aspect within it. The shape is performed very good here. The mask is cool as well, unlike what many people say. Here we find the greatest ending of any other Halloween film and one of the best ever filmed. Very good script that is pretty tight through the entire movie. This is a fantastic horror film that still amazes viewers because its aging very well. Highly recommended.

Number 8 in the Halloween line maintains connections to John Carpenter's original. Resurrection picks up the thread of Halloween: H2O, with poor Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) now in a psychiatric hospital and determined to shut down homicidal Michael Myers once and for all. After this prologue, the story shifts to the old Myers house, where a TV reality show has enticed six teenagers to spend a single night in the spooky home. Needless to say, things are spoiled when Michael barges in: "I so did not sign up for this," sighs the young heroine, when the bloodletting begins. The mayhem is being broadcast live on the Internet, which makes the film a bit like Rear Window with Instant Messaging. The interesting premise is routinely handled, but that's enough to make this one of the better sequels in the series. Maybe they finally finished off Michael in this one, wink wink. --Robert Horton

The reality programmers at DangerTainment (Rhymes, Banks) have selected Rudy (Sean Patrick Thomas -- SAVE THE LAST DANCE), Bill (Thomas Ian Nicholas -- AMERICAN PIE 1&2), and a group of thrill-seeking teenagers to spend one fun-filled night in the childhood home of serial killer Michael Myers. 2 out of 5 stars Too many cliches.......2007-09-02

The first minutes of the film with the final battle between Michael Myers and Laurie were the only high point of this film. After that happened, Halloween series enters the cliche zone. 2000 hasnt been very kind to any horror franchises. Its better then the Rob Zombie remake at least, PLEASE AVOID THAT MOVIE HALLOWEEN FANS! Myers was normal in this movie, the Zombie film made him look like he was on steriods. Probably an ode to the times. I love the Halloween series but I rank this as one of the worst films due to the dumb internet story line. If they ended this with the Myers-Strode finale then this movie would of been good. I know they had to film anther hour and twenty seven minutes of film though.

5 out of 5 stars HE'S BBBAAACCCKKK - MICHAEL NEVER DIES!!!.......2007-08-31

i'm a big holloween junkie, and a big michael myers addict. i love the whole series. this movie is great. there's suspense, thrills, kills. jamie lee curtis a great actress, does her part great. michaels home and those kids are tresspassing so beware!!!

Had Its Moments! Mostley made up for H20. After The CrapFest that H20 was, This was a good attempt. Hopefully Rob Zombie does a Great Job on his Version.

2 out of 5 stars Tries to undo H20...but for what?.......2007-08-05

This movie was a HUGE disappointment. Its predecessor was a pleasant surprise, intelligently resolving (or so we thought) the whole "Halloween" series with a tremendously satisfying confrontation between Michael Myers and his long-suffering sister/prey, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). After that, I am baffled as to why Ms. Curtis (or should I say Mrs. Guest?) took part in this travesty, which undoes the above in ten misery-filled minutes. After which Jamie Lee is not seen again...guess why... Also, Josh Hartnett, as Laurie's son in "H20", isn't even mentioned as the series reverts to one-dimensional, character-free bloodletting. The rest of the movie is typical process of elimination of clueless teenagers, with some not-bad new twists (reality TV and webcams) in the formula. But all is hopelessly tainted by what came before.

In the long run, these series are unrewarding because the villains keep coming back, the heroes never really win, and the victims are never avenged. Unless the next sequel reveals that Laurie Strode survived her injuries, I'm going to consider H20, with its infinitely more satisfying (and logical!) conclusion, to be the end of the series.

Two stars because it's not awful, especially if you're fine with the callous disposal of the human element of the series (Jamie/Laurie) in favor of the faceless Michael Myers machine (and its conducivene$$ to more facele$$ $equel$).

By adding the Japanese cult movie Battle Royale to Wrong Turn's cinematic puree of Deliverance and The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn 2 primes itself for some clever spins on the repetitive inbred-mutant-humans-hunt-and-eat-sexy-young-people genre. A pseudo-post-apocalypse Survivor-type game show brings five sexy young people (a bitchy vegan, a loudmouth skateboarder, a lesbian marine, a straight-laced jock, and a slutty...uh...apparently, she's just a slut) to the Appalachian woods, where inbred mutant humans start picking them and the TV crew off. Also along for the ride is the tough-as-nails host (Henry Rollins, Bad Boys II), who goes native and starts hunting the inbred mutant humans. Regrettably, the game plotline is soon tossed aside and the movie settles into a straightforward hunt-kill-eat scenario. But for fans of the genre, Wrong Turn 2 does a good job: The sequence of deaths is not entirely predictable and you get to see one pair of exposed breasts, two sets of exposed intestines, and literal barrels of gore. Featuring horror flick stars Erica Leerhsen (the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Crystal Lowe (Black Christmas), Texas Battle (Final Destination 3), Daniella Alonso (The Hills Have Eyes II), D-list celebrity hostess Kimberly Caldwell, and Aleksa Palladino (who once had a promising career in decent indie movies like Manny & Lo, The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, and Storytelling). --Bret Fetzer

The series premise continues to stretch so thin it could dissipate. This time, Michael Myers chases his unfortunate niece around, then goes after a family who happen to be living in his former home. This is slasher-ism at its most cynical, and a thoroughly unpleasant, unimaginative, and unredeeming movie. Donald Pleasence, the one holdover from the original film, looks like he'd rather be anywhere than in this thing. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2007-09-04

The Curse of Michael Myers is one of the best Halloween movies. Michael is violent and kills alot in this film. Its what Rob Zombie's remake should have been. The do have some orgins to Myers background and I wish they'd release the directors cut to the movie. This is also Donald Pleasence's last film. Its too bad because he was such a great actor and I always enjoyed watching him as Dr. Loomis. Some cheesy moments but all in all, a excellent movie.

3 out of 5 stars The Origins of Michael Meyers.......2007-07-30

I'm ALMOST a diehard horror fan- I have to see every one my local store still has for rent. This is the second best entry in the long running, still going Halloween horror franchise behind the fourth one. Halloween 2 is so good it's bad. This one is pretty scary; unlike the fourth and fith films which preceeded it you laughed AT those two films for being so predictable. This explains the origins of Michael Meyers and had just enough of a budget to mass produce the VHS and master the DVD. I'm not going to give away much of the plot, but if you were waiting several years since Haloween 5, it is a lot better than that one and you don't feel guilty watching this one. This one portays Michael Meyers as an intelligent sociopath and not just a mindless killing machine. These horror franchises are rich- most of the budget went into mass oroducing the VHS, mastering the DVD and producing other merchandise like Halloween costumes. The first Halloween film in the 70s by John Carpenter was so successful and such a low budget that from then on the big no no in Holloywood film making was to flaunt your wealth. It had to have a broad appeal and they wanted everyone to be able to afford it. This one is a real freak of nature. For such a low budget and a direct to video rental, this first came out and I saw it then the first day it was released it came out at a time when VHS tapes, the Haloween series and horor films were a joke. Well it was no laughing matter when it was a worldwide success and the makers of this film sued college kids for posting bad reviews of it. As entertainment it's two and a half stars as a good movie it's three stars.

4 out of 5 stars Producer's cut makes sense of this mess.......2007-07-20

I finally saw this "Producer's Cut" of Halloween 6, and let me just say that it puts the theatrical release to shame. Best of all, the Producer's cut actually brings the series to a respectable close, which is ignored/omitted in the theatrical cut for the sake of more sequels.

You can't even begin to realize what a mess the theatrical version is until you witness the Producer's cut. For example, have you ever noticed how the dialogue comes in and the characters appear to be halfway through a conversation? Well that's because they cut it all out! Anything that helps the movie flow was cut out, and tons of pointless gore was edited in. Did you also ever wonder why Dr. Loomis was even at the hospital when he meets Tommy? Or why the whole bring back Halloween rally was taking place? Or who the father of the baby was? Well it's all explained in the Producer cut.

As for the different ending, I'll tell the truth coming from a fan of 10+ years, it's really not satisfying. Michael Myers is not defeated, or killed, nor does he meet the ultimate demise some were probably hoping for. I won't spoil it. However what is satisfying about it is that, as I mentioned, it brought a respectable end to the series and puts the idea of more dumb sequels to rest. But no, they just couldn't leave it alone.

I recommend checking out both versions and comparing them.

5 out of 5 stars I Actually Loved This Movie!.......2007-06-19

This more than likely the most underrated film Ive ever seen. No joke. I know the film gets trashed by critics and a lot of the Halloween fans alike. Nevertheless theres still something about the film that keeps me entertained even after Ive watched it 50 times. I really liked the story and the death scenes in the film. Not to mention this is the scariest out of all the Halloween movies. I just never really understood how anyone who likes Horror films cant find something good in this. I always recommend viewers wanting to see this to try to find the Producers Cut of the film. Its not an official release, but it can be found if you know where to look. Most of the time fans of this film make those Producers Cuts. Some of the great things about the film is the score(especially the Producers Cut of the film), the photography, a lot of the acting, and the creepy atmosphere it puts on. This IS the most brutal of all the other Halloween movies. I absloutely love seeing Myers kill people in this film. Im sure that sounds sadistic, but you can root for him sometimes. I always try to give this film credit and love. Ive even spent up to $75 on buying Producers Cuts of the film! Ive always had a soft spot for it. Definitely one of my favorite films. Its not for everyone though. I just recommend to anyone who watches it to have an open mind and try to see some of the awesome things in the film. They are most certainly there.
